    Cost: $100
    Skill Level: Moderate
Tools List for Installing a Reverse Osmosis Water Filter:
    Adjustable Open Ended Wrench
    Screwdriver
    Shopping List:
    Reverse Osmosis Filter
    3⁄8” x 3⁄8” x 1⁄4” compression T fitting
    Steps:
    1. Before doing any plumbing work, turn off the water supply at the water main.
    2. Mount the filters to the inside of the kitchen cabinet.
    3. Remove the hand soap dispenser or side sprayer to allow for a hole for mounting the new faucet.
    4. Pass the tubes through the mounting hole and connect them to the faucet base.
    5. Mount the faucet base to the sink or counter using the supplied toggle bolt and a screwdriver.
    6. Connect the water line to the faucet and attach the faucet to the faucet base.
    7. Add the compression T fitting to the existing cold water supply to allow connection to the new water filter. Use a wrench to tighten the connections.
    8. Install the drain adapter to the existing drain piping and connect the drain tubing to the new drain adapter. You may need to modify the existing drain piping.
    9. Connect the final piece of tubing to the pressure tank and tuck the tank under the sink.
    10. Turn back on the water supply.

Have one of these with 4 filters. Water is great. 6 month replacement on a couple of the filters or 6000 gallons, and 24 months on the other two. Every year they say to clean the system and repressurize the tank with a bike pump. Really is good and convenient.

I install these things every once in a while. He should have been more clear after installation. It takes about 2 to 3 hours to fill the tank then you have to flush the tank once by running the filtered water for about 5 minutes then let the tank fill again. When the tank is full and with a proper tank precharge of 100 psi water will come out at a much higher pressure than we seen here.

The waste water connection from the r/o filter is supposed to be made before the waste disposal, not after. I see that it would be almost impossible with the single drain sink and the the disposal mounted that way. Unlikely but a backed up p-trap and the disposal could pressurize the r/o waste line. Would fail an inspection if it was installed when the house was built in my area (I know of 2).

Pure H20 implies distilled water, which one should not drink. He should have cautioned her about waiting for for the tank to fill then dumping the tank full of the water and NOT drinking it. Also, if you are in an area with high water bills (Monterey Peninsula, based on consumption) and non-existent summer rainfall, you might not want to throw away that much water. I ran the dump line under and out of my house, about 30', to two large rain barrels, one flowing into another, which hold the water for me to use on my back garden. The plants *love* the extra minerals and I save about 50 gallons a week.

This guy is hilarious, he's not a plumber or any licensed trade contractor. Yet, he poses as one and speaks with confidence while spewing misinformation. First, the correct order of the water is as follows, prefilter, RO membrane, storage tank, postfilter, finally faucet. Second, you MUST purge and flush all new RO system several times to remove factory disinfectants, carbon fines and any other undesirable items in the RO system. Also having 2 seperate shut off valves if the way to go, those tee's that stack leak. A true plumber would use tubing cutters on the tubular waste not a HACKsaw. One more point of mention is the drain must be made before the disposal. In this application the disposal would need to be eliminated for the RO system to be installed properly.

maybe due to the increase of impurities (salts, heavy metals, etc.) from the effluent, but that's only remotely accurate if you're running hundreds of gallons per day. Even then, it would most likely be neutralized before it did any damage to the thousands of gallons in your septic.

there is a small drain hose that you can capture the waste water, i send that into my grey water system to water plants.
All water from my showers, washing machines, ro go into the grey water system to water plants, while water from the sink is filtered via sand/charcoal and is used for plants - always plants that are not for consumption. While our septic system leach field is near trees and they do great.
That is just how i handled our problems this might not work for you. Always look up your citys codes and ordinances to see if your project will work and is legal.

The only way to make sure you are treating your water correctly is to know what is in it. R.O. is great for many contaminants but not all. Treat according to the chemistry. Three stage five stage, know what you actually need, hire a professional, it's not the same as plumbing in a washing machine or a hot water heater! Water is dynamic not static.

My problem with these is that usually, including this video, it implies that the water coming out of this is good healthy water. But it's not, this is a simple solution for when you have a serious issue with your water. But the water coming out is not good, it's pure. Water is a major source of vital minerals and metals, and should ideally not be "pure", if it is then you need to get them from other sources.

In the water we drink it has minerals that our body needs... RO water is a water filtration that filters everything out except water molecules the higher the rejection rate the better the quality of the water... RO water is pure h2o... but a water filtration that uses granulated carbon is great cause it absorbs cloramines & chlorine, but add a sediment/ultra filter & you have a perfect water system that removes all of the bads but youre drinking all the goods in what water gives
