  • Time to do another RO system install. This time I chose the iSpring 6-stage Reverse Osmosis filtration system. It had good reviews on Amazon and the replacement filters were relatively inexpensive. I go through the manual and demostrate step-by-step how to install this RO system. I think the directions are pretty clear straight forward, which made this a pretty easy install.

    This was a big help and very well done. I had a little leak at first and fixed it easily by reinstalling the tubing. But I forgot that the shut off valve was activated by the leak 2 hours later as I checked to see if the tank was full. I made a by pass line without hooking up the stop leak and water flowed normally. Thanks for your helpful video, looking forward to the replacement video.

    The most important step that I want to add to your video, is that you want to maintain a sterile environment. During the time of which you are adding the filters and putting the tubing together, you want to avoid introducing unwanted bacteria that can grow in colonies inside your system. So I try to breathe through my nose not talking too much, and in addition keep hand sanitizer nearby, avoiding touching the internals too much.

    Great installation video. I like the end part where you show how to flush the system and letting the carbon out until the water runs clear.
    when its time to replace the filters I will follow your way .
    I found the water that came out of the RO system tasted awful. RO takes out all the minerals and we are used to drinking water that has minerals, especially if you drink spring water.
    I found this company Vitev and they have the Remin Ph or Remin CA filters which you put at the end of the system and it adds all the minerals you need to have great tasting water. I use the CA because I don't want to put the my water to high in PH. It also replaces the filter that comes after the membrane and that also gives you more pressure at the tap.
    Check it out. totally worth it.

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  2 роки тому +1

      @@loupakisathleticcenter9667 The red line is the supply line that delivers water from the FEED WATER ADAPTER to the RO system. You will cut this line in the middle somewhere and insert the leak stop valve. So the red line will go from the FEED WATER ADAPTER to the LEAK STOP VALVE, and then the red line will come out of the other side of the LEAK STOP VALVE and go to the RO system. The cloudy water is probably just air bubbles. If you let the water sit in a glass for a minute it should clear up. If it doesn't, I would contact iSpring and ask them.

      I am sure they have. If you have any issues, you just want to make sure the cuts on the ends of the hoses are as clean and square as possible. A jagged or angled cut can cause a leak in the connectors.

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  10 місяців тому +1

      If you are 30 minutes on and it is still going strong, that doesn't seem right to me. The tank only holds 1 gallon. Once that is empty, it should flow at the rate the RO membrane will allow, which is just a trickle.

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  Рік тому

      I am not sure that I understand the question. The RO filters the water and stores it in the pressure tank. The RO process is slow so you need the tank to save up the filtered water so that it comes out quickly when you want it. If you don't have the tank the water flow would be restricted by the filters and would just come out of the faucet as a trickle regardless of your water pressure in the rest of the house. I hope that answered it.

    Our system was put in in 2004. They have made a few changes since then. The safety clips the clear sediment filter case. The leak preventer system. Cutting the drain line at a 45 will keep the line from being restricted if it was push in to far. We have the 5 filter system. What pressure should the tank be empty, and when it is full?

    • @TheFixitShed

    Thank you so much for this video! I bought this system but don't even have the tools yet, hence why I'm watching your video! In your case, your RO faucet could be fitted into the existing hole in your sink set. If I don't have a hole, can I just drill it with any regular drill for drilling into PVC pipes (that I will go buy)?
    Also, at 6:50, you drilled into the vertical part of the drain pipe. I had seen other vids that said to drill the hole on the horizontal part to prevent dripping sounds; was there a reason you chose the vertical part? And would the horizontal part of your drain pipe been sufficiently long to drill a hole there if you wanted?

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  8 місяців тому +1

      Any drill is fine for drilling a hole. But make sure you are using a drill bit for metal. (If you use a bit for wood, it will dull very quickly.) The reason I drilled into the vertical part is because that is what the directions said to do. You could probably drill into the top of the horizontal part, but the base of the sink might make that difficult.

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  Рік тому +1

      That area on the filter shouldn't get water around it. They encourage you to not touch the membrane cartridge, so I would just leave it alone. If you have to drill a hole, it should be 1/2". I used the hole for the sprayer, which is quite a bit bigger than that, and it is working just fine. Thanks!

    Question: Under normal operating conditions, how much water is actually sent to the drain in this system? Let's say you plug the system in, open the inlet valve, let the system fill and don't use any water (like in a "away from home" scenario), how much water will actually be sent to the drain ? Hi, I just installed a system like this, 7 stage, and notices that the water flow was clearly reduced when getting water from the fridge. By the way, had another Q - I had a leak at the yellow quick-connect on top of the pressurized water tank. Tried reconnecting, inserting it all the way in etc, but did not stop the leak. Finally, I cut the yellow hose about an inch down, put a lil vaseline on hose, stuck it back all the way into the quick-connect, and now the leak the gone. However, in that process, I ended up opening the tank's cap, and all the pressurized water literally splashed up the ceiling! Does this mean I need to check/re-pressurize the tank (up to ~10psi?), or is that normal, and let it be? The pressure at the outlet faucet seems okay - but not too fast.

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  2 роки тому

      It could be that the end of the yellow line had an imperfection, and making another cut was the right solution. If water came out of the tank, then when you reconnect everything, it should repressurize and be fine. If you let AIR out, then you would need to put air back in.

    • @manishgv

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  Рік тому

      The storage tank pressure should be arounf 5-7 lbs (You may want to check with iSpring to double check that range, but it is close). You have to check the pressure when there is no water in the tank. Over inflating will damage it. Adding more pressure to the tank does not increase the pressure coming out of the faucet.

    • @TheFixitShed

      Most likely it is just air bubbles. If you let the water sit for a minute, it should clear up. It seems to happen when water pressure is higher. I have low water pressure so it comes out clear. Slowly, but clear. My friends have higher water pressure (like a fire hose) and theirs comes out cloudy, but a minute later it is clear.

      If you opened all of the valves you closed to change the filters, the only other thing I can think of is the stage 2 filter. It is directional, and if you installed it upside down, that could be an issue. I have a video on replacing the filters here: ua-cam.com/video/5NErj8eATxE/v-deo.htmlsi=8-y6RrsetTDM68te

    Is it normal to hear water dripping into the drain saddle. It seems to be on and off all day

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  2 роки тому

      Yes, it is normal. The system uses water to wash away the contaminants caught by the filter. Then it passes through the waste line to the drain.

    Hi
    I just bought the same system and i expect to receive it in a couple days.
    Did you receive results from lab test? How is the taste of water before and after installation?
    Here in europe this filter cost around 400€, so i hope i did a good purchase 😄

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  Рік тому +1

      My water tasted fine before and after installation. My problem was lead in the water. We did have it tested before and after installation, and don't actuallt remeber the numbers, but before it was high and after the installation it was at an acceptable level. Sorry for being vague.

      I have only ever used teflon tape on threaded fittings. I am not sure how well it would work on the other connection. In fact, I could see it making the connections more likely to leak.

      I am not sure what the 46% reading is you are getting. If you are still getting bad water, something isn't hooked up properly. Hard to tell what it is from here, but go back over it and make sure everything it hooked up with the proper flow direction.

      If you want to fixt it, you could replace the piece of pipe. Its not terribly expensive. If you just want to plug it, off the top of my head, I would cut a small piece from a pvc pipe (maybe 1" by 1"), use plumbers putty between the patch and the pipe with the hole and put a hose clamp around it.

      RO filtration is a slow process, so the tank holds filtered water so that there is some available when you need it, and you don't have to wait 5 minutes for it to fill a glass of water.
