It's called Hybrid Picking. They also do Thumb, Pluck, and Slap finger picking as well. Their latest album, Remember That You Will Die, they do a ton of this and many songs have an almost Spanish/Jazz fusion sound to them. I HIGHLY recommend pretty much anything from the album, but ABC will throw you a curve ball. It's really good, and unlike things they have done before. XD
I'm going to wholeheartedly recommend Polyphia's collaboration with Steve Vai, Ego Death. It's an amazing song. ua-cam.com/video/1JNmz17gnMw/v-deo.html
As a 62 year old crappy guitarplayer myself I can't get enough from listening to Polyphia and enjoy their musicianship and technique. Having a vocalist as a part of the band would limit their possibility to divert from the trodden path of 'regular' bands thus limiting their creativity. They do have guest singers in songs every now and them and to me those songs are less interesting although the videos are always great.
I've always felt like this variety of music that's purely instrumental but incredibly technical had it's "vocalist" played by the instruments anyways. It's there, it just isn't a voice.
Hey don't sell yourself short, I bet you're a great guitarist man. These people are definitely other worldly, but you ain't gotta be them. Just be you and you'll rock it. But as a 25 year old crappy producer I feel you 😅
Always keep track on polyphia and reactions. Dont need to see more than 5 seconds to know youll love it. Playing god is also great, but every song hits as hard as the drummer clay, honestly.
Y'all gonna have to react two albums, new levels new devils, and remember you will die. Absolutely masterful work
yep
PLAYING GOD OR THE AUDACITY NEXT!!!
This is classical music of our times.
