He was that candle that burned brightly for a time ..He was an advocate for his black brothers and sisters in a time of turmoil and tragedy regardless what he suffered for doing so .. His love to all of us was genuine, and he will always be remembered and missed !!
In 10 years he made 33 years and wanted to get back to live performances. He loved his fans as much as we loved him! I'm a 65 year fan and will be until I'm under!
To understand Elvis' attachment and concern for the black American community you have to know the man grew up very poor and as a child, he attended one of the very very rare mixed-race churches in the south. He was a Gospel singer before he ever recorded a single rock song. The moves that made him so controversial he learned from black revival church services where they sang from the heart and just let their bodies move and flow with the passion of their devotion. Elvis as a young white boy was fascinated by that and loved it. He adopted it for himself.
Love seeing my fellow black folks reacting and learning more about elvis because he’s been deemed as a racist somehow when that’s far from the truth. This is a man who grew up in tupelo with other black children, went to a mixed race church, hired black musicians in his band in the 70’s, befriended many black artist in the 50’s and created this song for MLK assassination.
And that proves that either ignorance is rapid in this world or that people actually want white people to be racist that really aren't. That in itself should be a crime
This song was written for Elvis. This is also represented the assassinations of JFK, Robert Kennedy, and MLK. Parker didn't want him to do this song but Elvis stood his ground.
On top of MLK being assassinated, Robert Kennedy was assassinated while they were taping the special. Elvis was very upset about both. He said that someone once told him if you can't say it then sing it. The director of the show and everyone else had heard Elvis talk about his feelings about everything going on so he asked a couple of the musicians to write this specifically for Elvis. They did it in one day then Elvis sang it and put his feelings into the words. This is the result.
Just to add a bit; The show's producer, Steve Binder, went to musical director, Billy Goldenberg, to write an inspirational closing song, reflecting Elvis’ feelings. Billy was going to write it with Walter “Earl” Brown, but Earl wrote it all himself, that same night (& even though entitled to it, Billy, honorably, declined co-writing credit). Earl said he drew inspiration from Sam Cooke’s song, A Change Is Gonna Come & of course, MLK's speech. Earl also said, the next day, he was playing it for the producers & Col. Parker tried to put the kibosh on it, but Elvis overruled him.
I believe Elvis was a good man. Flawed like we ALL are in various ways, admit it. He was kind. I have never heard anthing negative about him, before or after his death from others in ui
I'm so glad that you reacted to this song! Tom Parker was such a jerk, took half his profits and manipulated him, and I believe I read that he was the reason Elvis couldn't travel outside the US to perform. You'll be blown away by the other performances in the 68 comeback special as well.
You're right. Parker did keep Elvis from leaving the states. Parker was in the U.S illegally. Parker knew if he left and tried to come back he could be deported. Elvis didn't know that. Parker was a con man
"Parker" was an alias (born Andreas Cornelia van Kujik) for a Dutch born illegal on the run as a murder suspect in his hometown. He couldn't leave the US because he couldn't get back in and he didn't want EP going without him for fear he would discover he was being cheated. Parker owed $$$$ in gambling debts. The record company was also discovered to be a part of the cheating scandal.
Tom Parker wasn’t as big of a jerk as people think or as the movie made him out to be but yes it was a toxic situation. You couldn’t tell Elvis to do anything. He was a very stubborn person and he could have gone overseas if he wanted but he didn’t because of a multitude of reasons but the old dusty Parker wasn’t all to blame
You should watch the interview with Sam Bell, Elvis' childhood friend. Elvis grew up in a black church. Gospel music was his first love. Him and James Brown would stay up all night singing them. When Elvis passed James Brown sat in the room for 4 hrs with him.
A little known fact is that any hotel that Elvis stayed at, if they did not allow people of color, not only would he not stay there, but he would pull his show from that city. And he did in at least three cities that I know of. Elvis was definitely invited to the barbecue.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I really like the fact that you noticed all the stuff going on with the band, which, having played in bands for years I include backing vocals in that and I don't like to separate them out because it's all one big group working together. You have a really good ear, and I have a feeling you would make an excellent musician. You know what I always tell people? It's never too late, and it truly never is. That would amplify your enjoyment of music like you wouldn't believe. Anyway, I also like your actions because you are always real.
Since we are on a Elvis run and you watched Bohemian rhapsody. Check out the Elvis movie "Elvis" it would get you more into his music, his personality, and the social problems back in the days.
Elvis is singing his heart out about inequalities, and how the world needs to change. A dedication to MLK’s. I have a dream And this guy is talking about cinematography and back up singers
They wanted him to perform a christmas song for the finale, as crazy as it sounds there was a lot of pressure and his manager and his promoter were really angry that he insisted on this song.
Elvis..after being released from army..was thrown into making movies. He got sick of them and wanted to get back into performing in front of audiences. So it was called comeback to the fans!
Thank you for your reaction my friend. People put Elvis down these days because he didn’t write his own music. But they don’t understand why. The times and priorities today are so different than back then. Back in the day, song writers only wrote songs and they went to the record companies with their songs. If the record company liked the song then it was up to company to find the vocalist to perform the song under their label. Not everyone had the vocals Elvis had. The vocalist sold the song. The performance. There was no auto tune nor was there any computerized manipulation with vocalists. Songs and vocalist just didn’t go hand and hand back then. Today it’s all different. Basically anyone could sing these days but back then no. As a performer Presley was inducted into 22 music hall of fames. Five of which were, Country,Gospel, Rock n Roll, Rockabilly and R n B. Unprecedented. Note: Presley’s manager was a bastard. He took away Presley’s money, his career, his confidence and his life. Just think how much more Presley could have achieved if had found a legitimate manager. 👍
Yeah man!!! I'm 52 and just finding out now and I'm embarrassed for not knowing and I'm PISSED at the way he was used and manipulated for other ppls gain! And his manager... I want that prick assassinated to know what it feels like. But that then goes against Elvis's dream to feel that way 😔 God damn this is a tragic story Peace out brother 😔✌️
Late to your party but grateful for your genuine & respe tful reaction. He eould hsve bern so honored by your kind words. Elvis was remarkable. His voice & music survive the test of time. Humble, & generous beyond measure not wanting any publicity. Stayed in Memphis with the comunity benefiting from his generosity. He literally passed out from physical & emotional exhaustion after completing this song. He took a huge chance replacing the intended song with this song on top of his career hinging on the success of this comeback special. He could not read music but could play several instruments. Arranged a good portion of his recordings. Loved his musicians, backup singers. Always got the best out of all of them. Watch his live performance& the command he had on stage & interaction with musicians especially his drummer. Elvis was so gifted. Nothing but the best for his fans. He always treated them with respect and love. He knew his fans made him successful and never forgot that. He always said he'd be nothing without their love & support. His music continues to inspire and for that we are most grateful.❤😊
Yes both musi and vocals were what you needed back then hence unlike today all u need is a computer u don’t even need rap artists or rock artist just a composer
I love that you do your research about Elvis. He was not only a great artist but he was also a humble, generous human being. Thank you, greetings from Greece
If you want to hear Elvis' vocal range I suggest "American Trilogy" from the 1973 world wide satellite special "Aloha From Hawaii" (first solo performer to do so) Or toward the end of the his career his version of "Unchained Melody" Elvis had a 3 octave voice and most rock singers have about a 2 octave range. Here is a quote from Henry Pleasants book “The Great American Popular Singers” (1974) “… "Elvis was all at once a tenor, a baritone and a bass, the most unusual voice I’ve ever heard.” I believe that this ability - among many others - is what makes his voice so alluring......."
As you are on your journey with Elvis pay attention, he controls the band, orchestra, back up singers, with his hand gestures and body moves. He is music. He did it here, very obvious on Polk Salad Annie. This era of music was real voices, real muscicians not manipulated with technology like today. It was pure.
Elvis kind of wrote this song. He told Earl Brown, the guy who wrote it for Elvis, what to write down then put it into lyrics and music. Steve Binder the producer confirmed it.
I'm watching this again for the second time since it popped up in my feed, and you just made the comment that I know some people don't like it when I do research. Well actually think it's pretty cool that you do that but if I had a personal preference? It would be to do it at the end of the song and that way you get a true naked first impression without any expectations or knowledge. And let it hit you that way and then find out and then obviously on your own you would go back and listen to it again. But your actions are great so that's just something I would mention in that regard. I don't expect it to change what you are doing and nor do I care really, but that would be my personal observation.
Yes this song deserves a standing ovation! I love love love this song. We all need to listen to this song EVERY SINGLE DAY! I’m so happy you have heard this masterpiece. Now, TEACH THIS SONG TO EVERY YOUNG PERSON YOU CAN GET TO. ❤❤❤❤
How does one orchestrate a band? Glen Hardin did the arrangements of the music. Elvis had input of course. But since he couldn't read music he couldn't go through the charts.
This song gives me chills, a Beautiful song. You should react to Elvis and the black community, to see his journey on how he made it. He's got the gospel, soul, and rock background.
I believe Elvis was greatly loved loved for his great humanity for all people. He cared for everyone. He had big heart. You can tell in his voice, what he sang came from his Soul...
Very nice reaction. This man and his music is still loved worldwide 👍🌍🇿🇦 Please react to Tomorrow Never Comes and Bridge over Troubled Water live in Las Vegas 1970. Thank you.
Cissy Houston and the Sweet Inspirations joined Elvis in Las Vegas in 1969 and remained with him till the end. Cissy left in late 1970 to be with her children.
The "Aloha from Hawaii" special was my favorite of all of them. Elvis was still healthy & he glowed! Need to see it if you haven't. And Elvis was a baritone, not a baritol.
Great reaction!! Elvis never sang this song again after this special... Check out the sitting down version in black leather of the 68 Comeback Special Heartbreak Hotel That's Alright Mama Trying to Get To You Lawdy Miss Clawdy Love Me One Night With You Elvis had the best of the best on stage with him. They made MAGIC TOGETHER! If you're into instrumentals I definitely recommend Never Been to Spain Live. Incredible!!!! Cant thank you enough for TCB ⚡ and reacting, but truly caring about learning of our boy that we miss and love so much!!! Much respect to u young man! Also, Elvis...King of Kindness and short version of Elvis...A Generous Heart. It will explain alot of his character and love for people! It will blow your mind
HE SANG THIS SONG ON A CHRISTMAS SPECIAL, TOM PARKER HAD NO IDEA HE WAS GOING TO SING THIS SONG, HE WAS OUTRAGED!!!!! ELVIS WAS DETERMINED TO PAY RESPECT TO DR. KING!!!! HE SANG THIS SONG WITH EVERYTHING HE HAD....HE WENT BACKSTAGE AFTERWARDS AND CRIED HIS EYES OUT......
While If I Can Dream is now considered a tribute to just MLK, it was actually RFK’s assassination that prompted it to be written. Sadly, few today have any idea of how important RFK was. MLK was killed April 4, 1968, in Memphis, near Elvis' home. RFK was shot June 5, 1968, in CA (minutes after winning the Democratic Presidential Primary), & where just 2 days earlier, initial work had begun on Elvis’ 68 Special, (filmed June 17-29 & aired Dec.3). Producer Steve Binder said, when the news of RFK came on the TV, everyone gathered together & spent the night watching, crying & talking & they got to know Elvis in a way they otherwise never would have. After seeing how deeply affected Elvis was by both MLK’s & RFK’s deaths, & other world issues, Binder went to musical director, Billy Goldenberg, for an inspirational closing song, reflecting Elvis’ feelings. Billy was going to write it with Walter “Earl” Brown, but Earl wrote it all that same night. Earl said he drew inspiration from Dr. King’s speech & Sam Cooke’s song, A Change Is Gonna Come. Earl also said, the next day, he was playing it for the producers & Col. Parker tried to put the kibosh on it, but Elvis overruled him.
People (45 years after he's gone) still call Elvis King of Rock'n roll, but he did not like that title, he considerd that the only King was God and he actually told his fans this several times, but I consider him to be the King and not only of Rock'n roll, he is the King of Music, but what do you think, is he good enough to be called a Music King? Elvis was really in my mind, the King of GOSPEL and other music, no one does it better then him, he is best known for making Rockn roll famous, so he was called The King of Rockn roll, but he never liked that people called him that. He actually several times stoped Fans that said that he was the King of Rock'n roll, he said: I'm just an entertainer and singer, God is the only true King!! He was born in the poor parts of Tupelo Missisippi and it was mainly Afroamericans living there, at the same place as Elvis family lived there lived 3 more white familys, the rest was colored people, his family was dirtpoor until he became an artist after singing in a mainly black church during his childhood. Did you know that he had several friends that where Afroamerican, one of his friends was James Brown, yes THAT James Brown the King of Soul, another artist was B.B King, yes that B.B King... He also was friends with Mohamed Ali, yes the GREATEST boxer of all time, he even had a Robe made for him, but it was to much bling on it so Ali wouldn't where it more then one time to a fight. He really admired Martin Luther King very much, he felt that all people are equal, unfortually he never got to meet him, that would have created to much problems for both of them at that time. He had several medical problems, Glaucoma, problems sleeping, problems with irritable bowel syndrome, things that affected his real life and made him need medication to function. Yes, he took medicines that today are considered to be called drugs, but at that time doctors prescribed it to him and to ordinary people, they did not know of the problems it could give people (side effects). He never took any so-called street drugs, but unfortunately he did not realize that those medications would be a problem for him, he thought it was ordinary medicine because his doctor prescribed it to him and to everyone who needed it. In his family, people died at a relatively young age, so even if he did not have the medication, he might have died at about the same age. He could never be alone and thus himself, at that time there was no word superstar, so nothing could prepare him for that kind of life. Did you know that a big group of white poeple actually smashed his records and wanted to ban his music, just because they called it so called N... music, that is so painfun to think that some people actually can think like that, skincolor is just color and nothing more, when will people realise that? Here are some of his Gospel songs: Amazing Graze, Take me home precious lord, How great though art, How great thou art acapella: (I found this version: ua-cam.com/video/Be5y0rMBIFI/v-deo.html) You'll never walk alone, You gave me a mountin, Crying in the chapel, Why me Lord (written by Kris Kristofferson), Unchained melody, I'm not sure if it's a gospel song but Walk a mile in my shoes and many more, he also made several Christmas songs, also some type of Blues songs. . If you prefer ballad songs then look at these: My Way, Suspicius minds, In the Ghetto (written by Mac Davies), Memories (written by Mac Davies), If I can dream that is a tribute (parts of it is taken directly from the I can dream speach by MLK) to Martin Luther King JR and senator Robert Kennedy, What now my love, Walk a mile in my shoes (listen to the words in the beginning), Welcome to my world, Make The World Go Away, Bridge Over Troubled Water, An American Thrillergy, Hurt, Sweet Caroline, Just Pretend, What now my love, Are you lonesome tonight (laughing versin, or not), Oh Danny Boy (for you Irish people), a song that many might not know that he sung it is this one Yellow rose of Texas, I Washed My Hands In Muddy Water, well remember that he sang over 700 songs, yes most of them Covers, but that made the artists that he coverd more popular and they also got some money from it... There are some videos of when Elvis joking and messing up, he loved to joke around and pretend that he did not have control, but he had total control, he acctually conducted his musicans and back up choirs all the time ! He is the only person to have 2 records gone to sell Gold and 2 to to sell Platinum since he died. Elvis is also in almost every genre of Music Hall of Fame (5 that I'm sure of), no one else is in more then perhaps 2. Not bad for someone who never took a single singing lesson, yes he sang in church so perhaps he learned a little there, right? . Something else that people tend to overlook: He always conducts his musicans and backup singers, he never gets credit for being able to do that. Imagen you are a singer, you have great musicans, you have great backup singers, no Guest Artists, no Autotune, no Lipsinging and no Fireworks, now all is about your skill, could you handle that pressure? At the time when Elvis started Autotune did not exist and when it became availible, then he still did not use it, he did not need to, he also always sang so you could hear every word that he sang, the Fans always felt that he sang to just you ! That is what Elvis did in over 1600 concerts, despite having problems with his health, like his Glaucoma, the headlights must have hurt his eyes like crazy. He sang over 800 songs, I wonder how he could remember them all, he never vrote a song himself, so he had to remember other peoples songs, well that in it self is amazing in it self. By the way he had Glucomea and that must have been difficult being in the headlights all the time, that could be why he sometimes closes his eyes, but also sometimes squinting ! This unfortually made him temporary blind after the shows, that is why they led him of the stage and into his car, that is something that not many people knew about Elvis. Elvis suits was made of 100% Polyester, or 100 cotton (I'm not sure witch one), it was originally a karate suit, it was very light, but it was hot, so it made him sweat a lot, he got some bad press about that, but if you give it all then you will sweat, it should be positive, right? About the deep basevoice JD Sumner (a member of The Stamps Quartet) he is the Basso Profundo, I think it's called that, it is the deepest base singer there is. About him helping others, look at this: ua-cam.com/video/CrJ1c9tm-C0/v-deo.html Elvis made a show where all the money went to build the Memorial after Pearl Harbour, he talked to the nations about taking the Poliovaccin, Elvis took the first injection himself and he helped to start St Jude hospital against cancer, he also gave away juwelery, gave away cars, gave away houses to total strangers. He also have a own organisation that helps people get out of Homelessness (Presley Charitable Foundation). A thing that perhaps you did not know: Elvis NEVER had a show OUTSIDE OF USA, well he did sing once in Canada (I think it was in Ottowa) ! When the Aloha From Hawaii, Live in Honolulu, 1973 was showed, then it had 1.5 Billion viewers from around the world and the population that existed at the beginning of the seventies was approx: 3.7 BILLION people, this show was the first time a single artist was shown LIVE around the world. Video of Mohammad Ali speech after Elvis died: ua-cam.com/video/PO8Kq_3KTyI/v-deo.html I have to say that I loved being at Graceland and seeing his home, first we were at the house in Tupelo where he lived in his early years, he was born there ! You don't have a guide taking you on a tour, you can go all over yourself, but stay outside of the ropes and do not attempt to go upstairs, the outside is huge, so is the house, but you don't realise that from the front of the house. I don't regret for a second that I was there, or that I stood at his grave site and said out loud that this is for the humanitarian Elvis/person/man and then I gave him a military salute, the others there just looked at me and asked if I didn't like his music. So I told them that he was clearly one of the best singers and artists ever, but I loved his big heart more, he helped so many people without getting credit for it, he didn't want the credit of helping others, he did it out of love and respect and to me that is what true charity is all about. This PLACE (GRACELAND) should be a protected part of music history and also American history forever, I think that people will keep coming for years and years and years to come ! Elvis did lots of things for America to, he helped to avoid getting Polio (he took the vaccin in a tv show that made the intrest for taking the vaccin go from 0,6 % to 80 % in 6 months), he helped in the figth to defeat Cancer with helping to build St Judes children cancer treatment clinic, he helped to build the Memorial over Pearl Harbour and many other things ! He also have a own organisation that helps people get out of Homelessness (Presley Charitable Foundation).
There seems SOOOO many songs to choose from, there are several videos on YT from his 68 Comeback. One Night With You, Heartbreake Hotel are 2 that he was with the 3 guys that he started with In 55 Scotty Moore, Dj Fontana and Bill Black along with a guy that became one his closest friends from his Army Days Charlie Hodge. It was a casual sit down like light hearted jam session and you can see King Presley's personality come through. He worked with the best of the best and he treated them good. A few more Suspicious Minds, Polk Salad Annie, Bridge over Troubled Waters, Just Pretend from his 1970 Las Vegas Show. From his 1973 Aloha from Hawaii Show that was seen by over 1 Billion people, My Way, Steamroller Blues, American Trilogy, You Gave Me A Mountain. He was more reserved in that Special because of so many people watching around the world, he didn't want to offend anyone. He recorded over 700 songs had over 1600 sold out shows and was in 31 Movies, 2 concert documentaries and 1 TV Special. I was 10 when he passed away and I don't EVER remember a time that I was not an Elvis Presley fan. Enjoy this journey. He did all of this from the time he was 19 years old till the time he died at age 42.
I watched the special with my mother that night. I was 10 years old at the time. You can watch it. The best of Elvis in an intimate setting. Elvis pour his whole soul into that performance. Remember this is live with an orchestra.
I was 4 years old when this special aired. The following year I got my 1st Elvis album, and became a lifelong fan. I grew up an Army brat, and had the privilege of a diverse family. I remember when he died, and the rumors of him being racist. Both hurt as a fan of Elvis. I knew he wasn't racist, because I had followed him closely my whole life. So glad to see videos like yours giving homage to him.
To me this song is Elvis the man, the human.
That is the greatest performance you will ever see from any artist. PERIOD...
Elvis didn’t want to be called the king only Jesus is the King. He wanted to entertain the fans
Noone can so from their voice like Elvis to this day, even with technology.
He was that candle that burned brightly for a time ..He was an advocate for his black brothers and sisters in a time of turmoil and tragedy regardless what he suffered for doing so .. His love to all of us was genuine, and he will always be remembered and missed !!
He'd been doing movies and the '68 Comeback Special was his first singing in years. Loved the special !!!!
In 10 years he made 33 years and wanted to get back to live performances. He loved his fans as much as we loved him! I'm a 65 year fan and will be until I'm under!
Amazing RIP MLK AND ELVIS ❤

He did not perform without his back-up singers. He knew how they added to his performance. I love that quiet little "thank you. Goodnight."

Let's face facts,, Elvis was just fantastic!!!
@@theresaboom7711 Now that's a FACT!👍👍
I saw a documentary about this and his backup singers said it was the most they ever saw him put into a song.
This is the best performance I’ve ever seen from Elvis
I believe Elvis was a good man. Flawed like we ALL are in various ways, admit it. He was kind. I have never heard anthing negative about him, before or after his death from others in ui
He left it all on the stage with this performance.
The Elvis If I Can Dream performance - music - the whole damn thang - will never be bested - EVER
Elvis wS exhausted. Elvis is the goat.

Parker was an illegal immigrant from Holland. He wouldn't have been allowed back after a world tour.
Research Reverend Bob Joyce. Witness Protection, DEA agent under Nixon. Misspell name on his graveside. So much
Tom Parker wasn’t as big of a jerk as people think or as the movie made him out to be but yes it was a toxic situation. You couldn’t tell Elvis to do anything. Trying To Get To You 68 comeback special
I am very fortunate to have seen him in concert in 1975, I was only 6 yrs old. I will forever remember this concert. He was truly amazing ❤❤❤
It was a comeback to the stage because he had spent the prior 8+ years making movies.
You should watch the interview with Sam Bell, Elvis' childhood friend. Elvis grew up in a black church. Gospel music was his first love. Him and James Brown would stay up all night singing them. When Elvis passed James Brown sat in the room for 4 hrs with him.
I agree !!!!
MJ is the prince of pop - always - but Elvis is and will always be the King - always
The backup singers on this were The Blossoms I think. The Sweet Inspirations didn't start backing Elvis till he started playing Las Vegas.
A little known fact is that any hotel that Elvis stayed at, if they did not allow people of color, not only would he not stay there, but he would pull his show from that city. And he did in at least three cities that I know of. Elvis was definitely invited to the barbecue.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Note:
Presley’s manager was a bastard. He took away Presley’s money, his career, his confidence and his life. Just think how much more Presley could have achieved if had found a legitimate manager. 👍
Elvis also changed the arrangements, tempo, and some of the words on most of the songs he recorded.
@@Sergio54321 Good point. Others wrote the song… but Elvis made the song in every way after. Same with Three dog night. Cory Wells was perfection too.
Facts....
Yeah man!!! I'm 52 and just finding out now and I'm embarrassed for not knowing and I'm PISSED at the way he was used and manipulated for other ppls gain! And his manager... I want that prick assassinated to know what it feels like. But that then goes against Elvis's dream to feel that way 😔
God damn this is a tragic story
Peace out brother 😔✌️
Plus JEALOUSY no doubt was a factor at times with some people
Tom Jones and Elvis were very good friends! What a duo lol
You should hear him sing I WILL NEVER FALL IN LOVE AGAIN.
He did demand perfection from his band. Amazing musicians.
Try watching, Elvis and the Black Communiy, That echo will never never Die
It's great. I've watched it three times ❤☮️
I love his movies some more than others but Elvis is in them and I can watch him any time I want to.
Loved his musicians, backup
singers.
Thank you Theodora! And love to Greece! 🇬🇷
I was told the back up singers were crying. Elvis almost collapsed back stage after the song. MLK and Bobby Kennedy deaths really affected him
This is my number one song of all time.
He was drafted in the army, and than he was under movie contracts,Elvis starred in 31 movies.
Hope you get to see the new Elvis movie ... it explains much of his background ... he's stunningly portrayed by Austin Butler !
💙 ELVIS 💙
Elvis was a a perfectionist when it came to arrangements nd music.
If you want to hear Elvis' vocal range I suggest "American Trilogy" from the 1973 world wide satellite special "Aloha From Hawaii" (first solo performer to do so)
Or toward the end of the his career his version of "Unchained Melody"
Elvis had a 3 octave voice and most rock singers have about a 2 octave range.
Here is a quote from Henry Pleasants book “The Great American Popular Singers” (1974) “… "Elvis was all at once a tenor, a baritone and a bass, the most unusual voice I’ve ever heard.” I believe that this ability - among many others - is what makes his voice so alluring......."
An American Trilogy is up here * points * He killed that.
I watched it with my family. I was 9 years old and knew of his fantastic voice from I was a toddler. ❤️🇧🇻
As you are on your journey with Elvis pay attention, he controls the band, orchestra, back up singers, with his hand gestures and body moves. He is music. He did it here, very obvious on Polk Salad Annie. This era of music was real voices, real muscicians not manipulated with technology like today. It was pure.
Exactly!
Elvis kind of wrote this song. He told Earl Brown, the guy who wrote it for Elvis, what to write down then put it into lyrics and music. Steve Binder the producer confirmed it.
Yes that was cissy Houston with him on that song they were with him whenever he preformed always
The back up singers were called the blossoms, great reaction by the way.
This song is also written about who the real Elvis is,all these words are related to Elvis too
Elvis's story is simultaneously The American Dream and the American nightmare.
Elvis did his own arrangements, so every sound you hear, instruments, voices, that's all his doing. He actually could go to bass and up to high tenor.
Elvis orchestrated the band and set the music arrangement. Excellence!
How does one orchestrate a band?
Glen Hardin did the arrangements of the music. Elvis had input of course. But since he couldn't read music he couldn't go through the charts.
Elvis did a lot of his own arrangements. I don’t know if he did this or not but he did do it pretty often.

Still and always one of the best performances in music history, we badly need to hear this song sung in todays world.
Elvis the man with 10voices, or more and vocal range try hurt live, then crying in the chapel. 🎧🎤🎸🎼🎵🎵😎🎙
Iconic.
The Sweet Inspirations were the female backup’s along with Cissy Houston. They were absolutely great!
This song gives me chills, a Beautiful song.
You should react to Elvis and the black community, to see his journey on how he made it. He's got the gospel, soul, and rock background.
The KING. love your reaction 💕💕💕💕
done on an empty stage at 3am .other than American trilogy and a few others this was his most soulfull preformance
Perfection.
I believe Elvis was greatly loved loved for his great humanity for all people. He cared for everyone. He had big heart. You can tell in his voice, what he sang came from his Soul...
Nothing gets past you! You are VERY observant! I think you would be an excellent producer.
Very nice reaction. This man and his music is still loved worldwide 👍🌍🇿🇦 Please react to Tomorrow Never Comes and Bridge over Troubled Water live in Las Vegas 1970. Thank you.
I lived in Memphis and was 10 years old, the whole city was in turmoil and shock. Elvis was really upset.
It was Elvis' personal tribute to a man that Elvis admired so much.
Cissy Houston and the Sweet Inspirations joined Elvis in Las Vegas in 1969 and remained with him till the end. Cissy left in late 1970 to be with her children.
The music was a Philharmonic orchestra,,,Who else could have sung with that level of professionalism and never miss a beat or note...but Elvis...
By the time the special aired Senator Robert Kennedy had also been assassinated. He was also a great warrior for Civil Rights.
I remember watching this. I was 10. We all cried. I still cry. We all have to keep dreaming!
Elvis he was a great singer, beautiful voice ❤️
You need to watch the new Elvis movie
American Trilogy! Range, pace, perfection. You must hear it.
This man was beyond amazing 💕💕💕
The "Aloha from Hawaii" special was my favorite of all of them. Elvis was still healthy & he glowed! Need to see it if you haven't. And Elvis was a baritone, not a baritol.
Great reaction!! Elvis never sang this song again after this special... Check out the sitting down version in black leather of the 68 Comeback Special
Heartbreak Hotel
That's Alright Mama
Trying to Get To You
Lawdy Miss Clawdy
Love Me
One Night With You
Elvis had the best of the best on stage with him.
NO AUTO-TUNE HERE.
Elvis did all the direction of the music of the background instrumentation.
It was prerecorded.
the greatest song ever by the only one king of music
Please react to: Elvis, Bridge Over Troubled Water, play the one that was "live" 1970...it will leave you breathless!!!!!
His gospel recordings are something to hear.
Best ever was ELVIS.
Thank God for ELVIS 🙏
Lol ive listened to him for 50 years and his movies were always playing when I was younger ..but its nice to see other people enjoy him !
He actually several times stoped Fans that said that he was the King of Rock'n roll, he said:
I'm just an entertainer and singer, God is the only true King!!
Here are some of his Gospel songs:
Amazing Graze, Take me home precious lord, How great though art, How great thou art acapella: (I found this version: ua-cam.com/video/Be5y0rMBIFI/v-deo.html) You'll never walk alone, You gave me a mountin, Crying in the chapel, Why me Lord (written by Kris Kristofferson), Unchained melody, I'm not sure if it's a gospel song but Walk a mile in my shoes and many more, he also made several Christmas songs, also some type of Blues songs.
.
If you prefer ballad songs then look at these:
My Way, Suspicius minds, In the Ghetto (written by Mac Davies), Memories (written by Mac Davies), If I can dream that is a tribute (parts of it is taken directly from the I can dream speach by MLK) to Martin Luther King JR and senator Robert Kennedy, What now my love, Walk a mile in my shoes (listen to the words in the beginning), Welcome to my world, Make The World Go Away, Bridge Over Troubled Water, An American Thrillergy, Hurt, Sweet Caroline, Just Pretend, What now my love, Are you lonesome tonight (laughing versin, or not), Oh Danny Boy (for you Irish people), a song that many might not know that he sung it is this one Yellow rose of Texas, I Washed My Hands In Muddy Water, well remember that he sang over 700 songs, yes most of them Covers, but that made the artists that he coverd more popular and they also got some money from it...
Not bad for someone who never took a single singing lesson, yes he sang in church so perhaps he learned a little there, right?
.
Something else that people tend to overlook:
He always conducts his musicans and backup singers, he never gets credit for being able to do that.
About him helping others, look at this: ua-cam.com/video/CrJ1c9tm-C0/v-deo.html
Elvis made a show where all the money went to build the Memorial after Pearl Harbour, he talked to the nations about taking the Poliovaccin, Elvis took the first injection himself and he helped to start St Jude hospital against cancer, he also gave away juwelery, gave away cars, gave away houses to total strangers.
Video of Mohammad Ali speech after Elvis died:
ua-cam.com/video/PO8Kq_3KTyI/v-deo.html
I have to say that I loved being at Graceland and seeing his home, first we were at the house in Tupelo where he lived in his early years, he was born there !
Never interrupt perfection
I watched the special with my mother that night. I was 10 years old at the time. You can watch it. The best of Elvis in an intimate setting. Elvis pour his whole soul into that performance. Remember this is live with an orchestra.
You need to see the 2022 Elvis film. I’m still upset with how everyone did Elvis and contributed to his early demise. 😡😢
I completely agree so simple the way the background is set, but for Elvis it’s perfect.
Watch EVERY video from this special....Elvis at his best
