If Respawn had waited a few months to release Titanfall 2, it quite possibly would have boomed. Being released between BF and CoD absolutely killed it, which is a huge shame. The campaign is one of my favorite in any FPS game, and the multiplayer is unbelievably fun.
Bro... This was the point
I still remember, they launched Titanfall 2 on the same month of BF1.
The game that everyone was waiting and hoping to be the comeback of fun FPS (BF1), since Activision was on the crapy InfiniteWar "Halo style". This, in my opinion was the reason Titanfall 2 failed... And almost nobody remembers it.
I blame EA for this tragedy.
Titanfall 2 deserved so much more. 🥺@@PauloHenrique-gq9lv
@PauloHenrique-gq9lv same month is one thing which is bad enough...but the week in between bf1 and cod was sabotage.
@@itgscot5169Respawn teased Titanfall 3 then released Apex 💀
Tell that to EA. Seems like EA don’t care about TF and Apex.
I worked at EB Games during the 2003 holiday season and I can tell you pretty confidently why Beyond Good and Evil did so poorly: it launched *THE DAY AFTER SANDS OF TIME*.
Two amazing games came out at once: one that everyone had heard of, because of a huge amount of marketing and hype, and one that no one had heard of.
Worth noting that *both* games were published by Ubisoft, so Ubisoft decided to put its best game of the year (IMHO) up against its biggest game of the year, dooming it to obscurity.
I’m still mad.
I've always been curious as to what effect Sony paying for about three months PS2 exclusivity on both of those games in Europe/UK/AU had. It caused the GameCube and Xbox versions to miss out on potential sales at Christmas, so I can't imagine it helped with overall units sold. Probably wouldn't have been enough for BG&E to see the success it deserved, but still.
Dude I still think about that Beyond G&E 2 trailer they teased us with forever ago:(
@@jacobduhthrowbak3226 same
That explains a lot... I immediately got Sands of Time but only ten years later heard of Beyond Good and Evil, realizing that is a game I would like. Being a dev must be hard. You put everything you got into your game and have no influence over how it gets to the market.
@@Konzertheld absolutely. People work so hard on these games. Even the “crappy” ones. It has to be so much work.
Man Brutal Legend was so much fun. The music, the setting, the characters, it was really something else. Plus all the rock/metal icon cameos like Ozzy, Lemmy, and Rita. I didn't even mind the hunt for collectibles and power ups because driving felt fun and you had great music on the radio.
God yeah that game was absolutely amazing 😁
The soundtrack were massive. 110 songs.
@@V3ntilator 🙀 wow that's pretty cool
It's in my top 10 greatest games of all time list.
It had a great soundtrack and visuals, but those RTS elements with the concert battles really killed it for me. I actually like some RTS games, but there was something about the BL ones that were frustrating and I never finished the game because I was stuck on one of them
Jake's mispronunciation of "Saboteur". I'm dying.
Ryse son of Rome was criminally underrated. Graphics and gameplay were amazing at the time. Graphics actually kind of still hold up today.
Graphics were exceptional good for the time of release. But the gameplay? Okay for me, but nothing that stuck in my memories, except the sequence with the elephant.
Edit: Changed "elefant" to "elephant". Dankeschön!
Dude kind of? I played it on pc again and its still pretty damn good looking
The graphics were amazing. I didn’t buy bc everyone was saying it was repetitive and short.
The gameplay was just boring

Brutal legend had so much potential, it could’ve easily made a second game that was a prequel to the first game featuring Jack Black’s character’s dad.
I had so much fun playing Brütal Legend back in the day. The story was cool, it was funny and quirky, the art style was great at the time, the music was fantastic. Wish we could get a sequel, but I would settle for a remaster.
@GTFO with your space alien language ya mook
Brutal Legend feel like it failed more because of the split in it's gameplay mechanics. Like the single player should have been completely a action platformer and the multiplayer could have been a RTS. Sadly the game throws a curveball that missed people could not hit with the RTS just almost randomly being in the single player gameplay. More people remember and see the game for the action platforming and metal. The nostalgia glasses hide the RTS part. It's the mechanic that keeps me away from playing it.
If they did create a sequel/prequel they need to separate the two. RTS fans would have something and the majority casual audience will get a fun mature metal action platformer.
I'm so Happy they mentioned Brutal Legend....... that Shit made my Childhood Amazing.
DF had been wanting to make BL2 a thing for a while but EA wasn’t interested. But now that it’s a Microsoft property, I wouldn’t be surprised if they are working on it now, or soon! PLEASE PLEASE let’s get BL2 soon! Please Lord Phil!
Split/Second should be on this list too, most fun racing game I've ever played with natural disasters occurring while you're racing. The possibilities for a sequel would be endless.
Yes I played this as a kid and it was one of my favourite games hands-down
Indeed !
Mercenaries is one of my favorite games of all time. I feel lucky that I played it when I was younger so everything about the game blew my mind. The air strikes and factions were amazing, as well as the card values attached to the people you had to take out. Also it was the first game I ever played that had the surprising, "Oh my god there's a whole other half of the map!" feeling that I've only gotten since in Red Dead when Mexico becomes available to travel to. So glad to see it and I'm holding out the tiniest amount of hope that we'll get a remaster or a new game in the series.
I loved the game growing up, I got the first and second one, i loved how you could call for vehicles and stuff and never saw a game do that until Ghost Reacon Wildlands. My favorite was the mohawk blond guy
Yeah I played with him too! Mattias was his name. I had to look it up! Haha. I just remembered it was something with an M lol. @@drfischerreview2088
My favorite game also. I loved it when you beat the game that you get the nuke bazooka. You could take down entire cities with it. 😂 My favorite character was Jennifer Mui. Imo she was the most nimble of the three characters and it didn't hurt looking at her ass ever so often while playing. 🤭
Kingdom of Amalur felt like Fable to me, and I mean that in a good way. It combined whimsy and danger in the same way as Fable did imo, even the control scheme was similar. Holding the left trigger to do magic felt comfortably familiar and awesome. I don't have a PC or Xbox so getting to play something that felt like one of my favorite Xbox franchises was a treat.
There is no bad way to feel like Fable (1 & 2)
@@cenciende9401 damn right. That's what keeps bringing me back to it.
Honestly this comment convinced me I should try Kingdom of Amalur. I'm here for anything that has a Fable vibe.
@Sapphirefrost Same, I loved Fable when it dropped. The period of August-December 2004 had some awesome games drop and Fable was still a stand-out experience. I absolutely love Fables 2 and 3 but the first will always stand out for me, despite the improvements of the sequels.
Prey should absolutely be on this list. The game is a masterpiece. Compelling story, awesome art style, fleshed out game mechanics, a RELATIVELY bug free experience and an ending that completely left the door open for a proper sequel.
The Arkane or the Original? Both were very good but honestly Prey 2017 was a hidden gem for a shorter single player horror game
@@infernaldaedraog had its own parameters the new one just turned to any fps horror
@@gravedigga4real781 nah the mimics were cool and the story was lit
I remember talks, and even a demo, of the sequel...you were a human bounty hunter living in some alien dirty society? I have no idea how that linked to the Native American themes and the original characters but it was supposedly a sequel.
I LOVED Prey 2017!
Great video! Thanks Jake & gameranx crew!
Titanfall 2 is one of the best shooters ever, IMO. Amazing single player as well, I'm replaying it as we speak and it still feels fresh to this day.
Also, this video made me wanna play Kingdoms of Amalur again. Got the Re-Reckoning version and installing it right now.
Tf2 getting updated again
I *really* enjoyed deus ex mankind divided. I thought it was absolutely fantastic, and would love another one - preferably soon... Human Revolution was also absolutely excellent - I thought they were both on the same level. I especially loved the concept of the cool hidden hq and the story was varied and nuanced and really good. GIVE ME MORE!
I'd put HR one notch above MD because of the length of MD
If they would've extended it by about 20% it would've been so good
Solving that murder was super fun, and the fact that you could.missbtbings based off of how day progresses was cool, too
I have fond memories with Kingom of Amalur, the game had such fun combat and cool abilities. The card system which gave you a title and stats matching your build was a great concept!
👍🏼
Brutal Legend was a blast to play, the music fit so well & made for a great game. I'm surprised you didn't have Saboteur on the list since you mentioned it during another game, I've always wanted a sequel to that game.
Vampyr should also be on this list. The story and the narrative of the game is compelling and the way that your actions affect everyone around the game, makes it more interesting. Sadly, the combat and music is not that appealing.
I don't think vampyr failed though, it sold 1 million copies pretty quickly. Think they just never bothered with a sequel.
No sequel, but the developers who worked on that game are making a new game called Banishers
I really love the modern deus ex games and seeing it on this list right now is really bittersweet. The fact that there are still people like myself who miss these games is truly heartbreaking. I'm gonna go cry in my bed thinking of Adam Jensen and his unfinished story.
Tell that to the devs that never fixed the PC version where they have their biggest fanbase (I've retried earlier this year)! Even on low settings in 1080p, I was getting below 10 FPS with a 1080 Ti which should've been able to run that game in 4k ultra settings lol
@@Bender789456123i played it 3 or 4 years ago on rx 580 high settings and i do not remember such problems. It had some framerate drops in Prague, but in general it was solid experience.
I absolutely loved Ryse. That game is still beautiful to this day and it was relatively short, had great combat and a solid story as well.
Yep
The only problem it had was being a repetitive game.
@@marskingdoms I agree. That's a fair critique of it; but in its defense - it was short. It wasn't like it had you doing the same thing over and over again for dozens of hours.
I never played it (Playstation guy) but I watched Jackfrags go through it and it looked really fun. Agreed super repetitive, but it had promise. Thinking aloud, the sequel could have riffed on the theme of it (repairing a broken/corrupt system) and taken that into another kingdom, since that Rome storyline was pretty complete when the game was done. And just doing part 2 of screwed up Rome might have been even more repetitive. Or, would have been interesting if they flipped it and the Gauls (believe they were) that you fought in the first game, you now controlled while you replayed the same story from that POV.
Biggest Xbox exclusive disappointment. I plaied it via Game Pass and still regret wasting the few hours it lasted.
Really, read to yourself. How can you say being the game that short so it avoids you from having to keep playing it's repetitive gameplay is a positive? That exactly shows how badly it fails as a game.
"great combat"? Do yourself a favor a play some hack&slash. Anything you can find. Even the mediocre Golden Axe Beast Rider, one of the worst I can think of, is a masterpiece compared to Ryse.
My Wife and I met each other in the Brütal Legend multiplayer. So it's a very important game in our lives.
Woah
Amazing, hope you two are still going strong! 🙏🏾
Your wife must be lonely when you met her a pity
One game that I loved growing up that I just have never heard anyone else ever talk about was Hyperblade... early 3D sports game of a really violent, kinda hockey game on roller blades. It wasn't just the other players you had to watch out for but also hazards in the arena, a favorite of mine being the bladed turnstiles that spun for a couple of seconds after one player went through them, mulching anyone chasing right behind.
Same with MLB slugfest
The card system with enemies in mercenaries was so good! I loved that game.
Now do a list of terrible games that sold really well
Thanks for your suggestion
@@gameranxTVit’d just be an EA checklist
Every call of duty since BO3 lmao
@@gameranxTV for what it's worth, I'd much rather you not go down the perhaps more clickable but quantifyably harmful path of negativity/hate. One of the reasons I enjoyed this list, for example, was the fact that it was a positive take on games that deserved recognition, and yet it still points out some issues in the industry at the same time. It's a meaningful video, even if it's a seemingly simple list format vid.
I wouldn't necessarily mind a serious discussion video on a topic like why some games are so popular even when they have some questionable business practices behind them etc, as criticism or critical thinking is still important.
@@oldmatttvNonsense 😂 Fortnite, Valorant, Rogue Company, League Of Legends, Hearthstone, Overwatch. 🤢🤢
So happy to see Twisted Metal mentioned. They came out so long ago that a lot of people didn’t get to play them but like you I grew up on TM. Such amazing games and it’s so disappointing we never got more.
Same. That franchise is awesome. Wish vigilante 8 would’ve gotten more love too
check out the show, the firsts season is pretty good i hope it gives somebody the idea to make a new good twisted metal game
Definitely looking forward to a new twisted metal game. Its a helluva classic.
@@ThatDamnedTurkthey made one recently
I think the dev team died, which is why more games weren't released. I had a game which had some completed levels they made before they died, which was cool.
Shadowrun (FPS) 2007
This game was ahead of its time. It along with counterstrike gave the blueprint for online-only modern fps games like Overwatch and Valorant to suceed.
It was so good, but unfortunately lots of old-fashioned reviewers at the time slammed it for not having a story solo mode, nowadays that's completely normal for a game such as this. Those early reviews plus the shadowrun community not liking that it had no rpg elements made sure the game didn't succeed, but the actual gameplay was fantastic
Plus it was the first cross platform game, it was kind of a pioneer that nobody has heard of.
I remember playing it! It was great and so fun. Perfect comparison it was like a mix of what OW is with its own story lore
Before I even watch the video I want to throw my hat in.
A game that I played and a small very, very dedicated amount of people played was a musical game called fuser. It was a solid concept and actually taught people about digital music making in the lightest sense but the things that people were able to create for the span of about 2 to 3 years without any game support before the online functionality shutdown was amazing and there were little underground America's got talent style competitions teams were made that would compete against each other but sadly the game didn't see really great numbers in any sense. To this day you can even find people adding content to the game after opening up the files similar to how people in guitar hero add content. Unfortunately the game was pulled from all marketplaces and you can't even buy it anymore unless you somehow manage to find a physical copy which wasn't well circulated.
The main problem seem to be related to marketing advertising and it releasing during the dark ages.
Brutal legend really was special
Still Hope for a Remake
I remember this game spec ops game for the playstation called SOCOM. It was a very good tactical shooter where you lead a team of seals on missions. I played a lot of it back on the PSP but for some reason it just suddenly disappeared. I would've loved to play it again in current gen hardware.
If I remember correctly, they released some duds. Tried to change the games in a way the fan base didn’t like in order to appeal to a more general audience thus taking away what made the games special. The latest one, Socom 4, released right before the big data breach Sony had so that didn’t help. The studio then closed in 2012
It peaked on Socom 3 I don't think the gameplay would hold up today sadly. It was really good but honestly a bit of a rip off of GRAW and GRAW2.
SOCOM games were such a highlight of my younger days. Loved the style and tone. It was one of those series that just sort of faded out slowly as we transitioned from Ps2 to Ps3, and was gone by the time Ps4 came around. Closest experience I get to that these days is like, Ghost Recon Wildlands.
The OG first Socom game was soo much fun.. those were not run and gun games, it was pretty realistic, just a couple of bullets would take you out.. think that's why a lot of people didn't get into it. Would be so cool if someone would reboot it.
I remember I had socom 2 on ps2 I was terrible at it but young me had many hours of fun telling my lil soldiers what to do with the headset :)
Man how I loved Beyond Good & Evil, there’s really nothing like it for me. The game really deserved more…
Yes it did.
The memories I have of the Twisted Metal games are priceless. Co-op with friends was so much fun.
Enslaved Odyssey to the West comes to mind for me. That was a beautiful game. I would have said NieR Gestalt years ago, but we got a sequel in Automata and a remaster/remake in Replicant 1.22. If you haven't, I would suggest everyone play Enslaved Odyssey to the West and Nier Replicant 1.22. Beautiful games that deserve a ton of love.
Paragon really was such a fun way to experience a MOBA, and did things in a way I think would be rather popular today, were it still around.
It's the only MOBA that required skill for every single heroes since it was mostly skillshots lol
some dedicated fans made a new version of Paragon called Predecessor if you don't know about it already, it'll soon come to Playstation
I absolutely adore Brutal Legends. Such a fun experience. The music the humor. It’s an all time favorite. Sadly haven’t been able to play in years as they never made it available except for steam.
I loved Ryse son of Rome the campaign was amazing and the gladiator arena was very fun. Didn’t care much for titanfall 2’s multiplayer but the campaign was so damn good and for me proved that they could of done an even bigger one but that’s what the problem is since EA prefers making multiplayer only games as they apparently believe no one likes single player story driven games
I loved Titanfall so much, spent countless hours on it. They did update Titanfall 2 recently and Respawn did hint at something and revived the game multiplayer. Who knows maybe they will announce a Titanfall 3, but maybe that is just me coping.
👍🏼
Brutal Legend is a one and done standalone heavy metal RPG all stat celebrity voice talent (with Tim Curry as the bad guy) kick arse soundtrack and whole bunch of awesome Easter eggs scattered throughout makes it even more special. I would love to see a remastered version, but I don't think a sequel would improve it.
I loved Beyond Good and Evil. It's one of the few console games I played to the end, and the only console game I played more than once.
I loved Kingsoms of Amular so much, so when THQ Nordic made Re-Reckoning I bought the collectors edition. I still love playing it!
For me, Prince of Persia and splinter cell as a franchise back in the day shouldn't have failed. Like imagine if prince of Persia forgotten sands and splinter cell blacklist were successful then we would still be getting timeless masterpiece's but alas it's been more than 10 years since. Hopefully pop lost crown and sp remake is enough to make a comeback. Great video btw👍.
Not he OG game but the the IP did.
Blacklist was ok, i just didn’t like more actiony elements like the tagging system. I just feel like it may have done better without trying to ride the line between the old school stealth purist fans and action game fans. It was a good game though. Nothing will beat Chaos Theory for me though. I still replay it occasionally and it’s crazy how good it looks and plays for how old it is
Prince Of Persia inspired Assassin's Creed :)
I think Splinter Cell sort of lost it's way. For me the game series went downhill after the (absolutely incredible) Chaos Theory which had all the plot/shenanigans/political intrigue I've come to expect and love from the series established from the first game, and built up over Pandora Tomorrow to Chaos Theory - to some sort of gritty detective noir game from Double Agent onwards (can't remember if Double Agent or Conviction came first, pretty sure it was Double Agent) and the whole story of his daughter been killed/not killed, Third Echelon being corrupted (because of course it would be in a horribly predictable story beat) and then Fourth Echelon etc, etc.
It kinda seems backwards when I think about it, but when the game became more about Sam Fisher's story and life and less about political machinations of the elite, that's when to me it stopped being Splinter Cell.
@@OniFeez chaos theory was peak SC
Double FIne had an unfortunate history of making games that were in reality quite fun, but just didn't land for whatever reason. I still play Iron Brigade, and even still see people on the multiplayer server every once in a while! I'm also surprised that Vigilante 8 and Twisted Metal both faded away at around the same time and I miss the genre terribly. Someone needs to make an arcade arena car battler.
Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense is one of my favorite games of all time. I remember renting it from Blockbuster when it first came out and ended up buying it after having so much fun. My grandpa and I would play it nonstop on N64
@@SegwayBosskdude same, and it was such a long ago thing I unfortunately forgot what the name was and every time I mentioned it to any friends, they always assumed I meant Twisted Metal and I'm like no the other one and they'd say what other one? Lol. Vigilante was so good and I'd love to see the genre come back for real.
I absolutely love the Deus Ex games. Play through one of them at least once a year. Never get bored of either of the modern games. Oh and if you wanna hear Adam Jensen's voice again, play Starfield. Happy hunting for his character though 😊
Brutal Legend was a fun game. The part I didn't like were the concert battles. They were frustrasting at times. Overall it was a fun game and honestly based on how the game ended I wouldn't even know what they would do for a sequel
Guitar licks in brutal legend was AMAZING and the game was a very nice trip . Hope we see more of these 🤘

Man, I loved the first Mercenaries game. So many great memories of going in guns blazing, taking out an enemy camp, stealing a tank and bringing the enemy base to the ground.
I was thinking about Mercenaries the second the video started. Glad to see it on the list just so it gets some sort of recognition. Cause the first one is flat out amazing fun.
The most recent one they made kind of disappointed me but the first? That shit was mind blowing back in the day. I remember playing Red faction and wishing they had done more with the destructible environments and when I came across Mercenaries it was like nothing I had ever seen. I’m flabbergasted that there hasn’t really been another game like them since
Loved mercenaries
Those games were my shit as a kid, there was talk of mercenaries Inc (the 3rd one) and a small game play clip and then the studio went under and haven't heard anything since, tho I do look it up every few years just to see
I played it as a little kid, and I spent the whole game climbing buildings and jumping off.
10/10 I didn't even realize there was a story.
Excellent video! So glad to see Twisted Metal and Brutal Legend on this list!
Great list... really great, can't argue with any of the entries on it ^^
From what I've watched about Twisted Metal 2012 is that it boiled down to a few things. It having the infamous online code that prevented people who bought a used copy from playing the online unless they purchase access, the janky racing segments(it was literally something that they kept in so that the guy who made it didn't get his feelings hurt), certain vehicles being needed to fight the bosses, and the biggest one of all being that you were limited to 3 characters to a campaign instead of a bunch of individual drivers with there motives with seeing how the wish they make gets twisted like all the other games. The one big thing it had was the maps and how they could be cut down for more action to have at anytime as well as the vehicles(but again no unique drivers for each with it being one of 4 factions).
There also certain vehicles that have the same special attacks like Crimson Fury and Kamikaze.
I loved kingdom of alamur. Played both the original and remake and the game still holds up. Really wish there was a sequel.
As much as I like diamond-in-the-rough stories, So many people have hyped up Kingdoms of Amalur over the years and after playing it, I just don't get it. What is there to this game that make people so attached ? I want to like but, well... it's just bland to me, on every single aspect.
The world is boring typical fantasy fae, winter court vs summer court, it's nothing special and nothing else is developed. Not helped by some very inconsistent voice acting quality. The level and world design is probably the worst aspect of the game, it feels like a single player MMO in all the bad ways. The combat is reasonably dynamic and responsive, but not very deep and the enemy variety is abysmal, so it gets very repetitive very quickly. The graphics are your typical cartoony fantasy that you've seen billions of times since WoW and Fable.
This game came out after Dark Souls and Skyrim, it was already years behind when it came out. Someone please make it make sense...

Also love the energy on these podcasts so far. I like the totally open conversations about subjects that may be touchy. It seems like your family has been able to keep that disconnect from the typical Hollywood bullshit and you all still have some sense in your heads. Keep on keeping on Osbournes. Good to see you every week.
Are you sure you're on the right video?
When you guys inevitably do the part 2 for this list, make sure to include Too Human and Sudeki. 2 great games that were just too ahead of their time and no one played but everyone should have.
So glad you talked about Twisted Metal and Mercenaries - two of my favorite series. I’d love a sequel to this video to include games like F-Zero and Sly Cooper.
👍🏼
I loved Brutal Legend all the way up to the tower defense parts. If they remastered it and took that out it’d probably be one of my favorite games.
Absolutely love beyond good and evil. Absolutely fantastic. Looks to be getting a re-release apparently.
I feel like Jade Empire needs to be on a list like this. I remember being glued to that game when it came out on xbox and really enjoying it to the point of always wondering why there was no sequel
Because the devs were working on Mass Effect and KOTOR
JE is amazing.
Yes, jade empire was amazing, it had really fun combat
Jade Empire is fantastic. I still play it from time to time, and it's just as fun as the first time.

Brutal legends was my first 360 game besides darksiders. Had some fun memories with that one it was unique and memorable. I don't think twisted metal failed because they were bad I think the series just ran its course
So it was your second 360 game lol
@@bakester55 not exactly. I got them at the same time lol
Couple of missing ones for me:
Prototype - I still havent played the second one even though I own it. I replayed the first one recently, but near the end, my save corrupted and I lost my progress of the entire game and that sort of killed my inertia to play the second one (which apparently does carry over your save file).
Resistance - I dont think these flopped, but Insomniac just decided to put them on infinite hiatus. R3 was a bit of a let down and they really kinda messed up with the story, but I still loved the world/lore they created, and the online Coop was the best I've ever played and one of my favorite FPSs.
Demons Souls - Didnt die since they went on to create a massively successful franchise and genre, but I would have loved to have seen a Demon Souls 2 and more lore for that specific world.
Gauntlet: Dark Legacy - still hoping for a remaster or some sequel that follows this path. Couple of recent Gauntlet games were just top down stuff (more akin to the original), but I loved the OTS gameplay for Dark Legacy.
Honorable Mention:
Anthem - It's not that it didnt deserve its poor sales and criticism, but it didnt deserve for Bioware to simply give up. It's still one of my favorite games and gave me an enjoyment that no other game has replicated. The flying and that gorgeous world are unmatched. I enjoyed the combat and there was a lot of lore even if the story itself was poor. It was a world that deserved to have been respected by EA and Bioware management. I still circle back and play it from time to time with a new Pilot. If they or anyone ever attempts this game again, instead of being a looter though, it should be similar to Armored Core, where you take on missions, get money, and buy and upgrade your Javelins that way and have a system to upgrade those parts further so that theres still something to chase after purchase. but i digress.
I’m so glad that you brought up anthem. Probably the most hyped I’ve been for a game besides elden ring. I will never stop holding out hope for it even though it’s most likely a lost cause
Road Rash. Wish that series hadn't died.
I'm really surprised to not see Alien Isolation on this list. It is the best Alien game we've ever gotten, one of the very best horror games I've ever played, and sold millions of copies but Sega were still not happy with the amount of sales. I can't believe next year the game is already going to be 10 years old...it still looks amazing to this day.
Not only the best Alien game, it is still the best "stalker type" game out there. The A.I. of the Alien keeps you on your toes at all times. Top 10 horror games of all time imo
The Evil Within games were way ahead of their time. Both titles came out before the major boom and current return of the survival horror genre. Still hoping we get a 3rd game... but I'm not sure how that will go since Shinji Mikami's leaving Tango Gameworks soon. Oh, and I still want a Manhunt 3... DAMN IT!!!
Evil Within is honestly better than Resident Evil and Silent Hill
@@infernaldaedra , I wouldn't go that far since there are enough entries in the RE and SH franchises that could contend with The Evil Within. However, I do agree that there's a whole lot of things I'd say I personally prefer with TEW games over RE and SH. For one, if we ever get a third entry, I'd love to see a full-blown return to the grindhouse vibe of the first game while retaining a lot of the mechanical improvements from 2. And I really dig the hybrid between the psychological and pseudo-supernatural elements in the two games. And there's even an observable connection with how RE4 influenced TEW and how a lot of things from TEW ended up being integrated in RE4make. Sadly, it seems like TEW came out before people were, once more, interested in tackling survival horror, again. If I recall, it was still back in the era when walking-simulator-type horror was the big thing.
F off B evil within is a ps3 game were talking about games way older than that
Mercenaries blew my 13 year old mind. Really ahead of it's time. The bases you had to take out were actually challenging and calling in tanks and artillery vehicles, etc felt so awesome.
Imo Syphon Filter shouldn't have failed. I love days gone from the same studio and loved the Easter egg in it related to Syphon Filter. I really hope they make a new one. Such a masterpiece for it's time
We need a list of second chances. Granted, that list may not be large, but it would be nice to show that (if publishers listen to the fans) successful comebacks are possible.
I'd love to see a studio just go back and buy the rights to some of these games that had potential or were good, but killed by sales, and do them justice.
👍🏼
I played through Ryse on my Steam Deck when it was on sale for like $3. I actually really enjoyed it. Definitely got repetitive but it was fun and really interesting.
👍🏼
Wow it's only $10 standard right now, talk about an incentive to give it a try
The only thing that really sucked imho about Ryse was how they did a massive disservice to Boudica, a great historical figure that doesn’t get enough love.
But I loved Ryse and played the daylights out of the multiplayer.
I wouldn't recommend playing it on steam deck, if you want a full experience with full graphics and fps play it on a high end pc or laptop
Alpha Protocol. It's a spy thriller action RPG with a similar playstyle to Mass Effect. There were unique dialogue choices with three distinct personalities to choose from (based on the three B's of spies: Borne, Bond, and Bauer according to the developers.) The game had multiple endings and multiple paths leading to those endings. There were different characters you could romance which was another throwback to the Bond films. Romance them all or just the ones you like. Some characters could die or live depending on the choices you made through the game. There were different RPG options to level up depending on your playstyle. Do you go complete stealth to the point where your abilities make you so undetectable for a few moments that you might as well be invisible? Or do you go full guns blazing and level your abilities that make you slow down time to get better shots? Or do you go full nerd and level up hacking abilities and let your gadgets do the work? Or perhaps a mix of everything? The game was a hell of a lot of fun. The only real downside is that it could feel a bit clunky at times (they also didn't tell you there was a sprint button which is much needed during a certain boss fight) and also there was no new game plus which would have added extra benefits for replay value. However, I still stand that it's a great game and would have definitely benefited from a sequel to add on to what already worked if people had just given it a chance.
We all have a game we recommend to everyone looking for a game, and Titanfall 2 is that game for me. The campain is genuinely incredible. It's not super long, but it's an absolute sprint home. They do so much with the game's mechanics. I've never played a campaign that managed to make every level feel so fresh.
I think you've mentioned it in another list in "games that make you feel badass". Titanfall 2 really does make you feel like a gamer god at times. There were a few tricky scenarios that, once I got them, felt so satisfying. Or the house building level, where you're just constantly moving and feel unstoppable. Great game.
Till this day, from time to time I listen to Brütal Legend's soundtrack. I really like this game and hope to eventually see a Remaster down the line. The only problem about this Remaster, is that it would certainly have licensing problems with so many songs.
Good list. I gave Brutal Legend a try. I was stuck early unable to control my buggy but I’ll try again…
Mercenaries was awesome. I loved the NK setting but most of all the faction and the “for a fistful of dollars” vibe mechanically implemented by accomplishing missions for 3 opposing sides. I have not seen anyone else do that, to this day!
Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time trying Brutal Legend again. Even if you learn to accept the wonky mechanics, the game just gets more disappointing the further you go.
Really? I was thinking to go back to it too...
Thank you for FINALLY mentioning Paragon. That game had immense potential. I've never been a fan of MOBAs - I liked Heroes of the Storm casually but that was primarily for the fan service.
Paragon was the only MOBA to ever suck me in - coughed up my $100 for a founders' pack immediately and made several new friends. It was also crossplay between PC and PS3 which was great
Where Epic went horribly wrong however, was at some point they stop posting entirely on the official forums and began strictly listening to Reddit, and literally ignoring what my fellow backers were telling them.
That lead to them gutting some of the most core elements of the game that made it stand out, as well as the transition to the new map which frankly sucked - the original map was so much better.
The game was like if you took Magic: The Gathering and turned it into a team brawler, as it had color alignments and deck building god it was just so fun and unique.
But they botched it, and Fortnite was catching fire so they pulled support and eventually killed the game - and I will NEVER forgive them for it.
At least Epic was good enough to refund everyone who backed the game, but I'd much rather have Paragon back.

I really enjoyed Mercenaries 2 and it totally felt like the Just Cause games that came afterwards. Also, it sucks that certain genres from the Ps2-Ps3 days have faded away. I really miss car combat games like Twisted Metal or Motorstorm. Also extreme sports games like Skate and music games like Rock Band or Guitar Hero have also faded away thanks to the massively popular first person shooters and battle royale games in the last 10-15 years. I absolutely hate Call of Duty and any other game that pushed away other genres from the spotlight.
I still play Brütal Legend
I think it's an absolute gem and I genuinely hope that we get a sequel
Haha that pronunciation of “the saboteur”
Small piece of gaming history: in GodHand there is a mini racing game involving Chihuahuas and one of the little dogs is called "Mikami's Head", this is a reference to Shinji Mikami's promise that he'd cut his own... "neck attachment" if RE4 ever released outside the Gamecube.
I really regret not getting around to Titanfall 2 until a few years after it released!! Easily became my favorite FPS campaign after halo 1. I feel like it just goes to show how important release dates can be, also I think the marketing could have been way stronger.
Alice: Madness Returns
THIS
Its a game for a 10 yr old brainer nobody like it
Smash + Grab is a game that should NOT have failed.
The gameplay was so much fun, a rock paper scissors oriented MOBA focused moreso on melee and counters while upgrading yourself. Set in a more dystopian crime filled world where you loot shops to upgrade yourself for combat.
Most fun MOBA I've ever played
Gameranx . Thank you . Thank you so much to shine some light in what once was an awesome game , Paragon . My eyes lit up when you said that an man i miss that game .
Koa was bought by thq nordic recently so hopefully it gets a second chance. It was one of my favorite games of all time. Beautifully crafted story and faction quests as well as powers and visuals.
They remastered the game already... so maybe a sequel instead?
Son Of Rome was criminally underrated.
👆🏻
Lost Planet is fist in my list! Nice Video!
Rogue Galaxy for the Ps2. I loved it but I wish it was made in to a series. It had unique take on Rpg leveling/Power-up. Using items to learn new abilities and increase stats. It had a decent story with memorable characters. You could fusion weapons to make them stronger or change them. Plus, It had little to no load loading screens. Most loading screens were hidden and if you seen them it was when landing or leaving a planet. Which for the Ps2 was a feat.
This game's world was beautiful. I wish I could play this game again.
@@anthonylucas2622 If you have Playstation plus. It is on one of the tiers.
I love brutal legend I've replayed it so many times over so many different consoles
👌👍🏼
Days Gone shouldnt have failed, to be fair i never played it when it launched i got it and beat it in 2022 and thought it was amazing, i had a blast with it and the story had a cool plot twist at the end, i even ended up platinuming the game
Same I'm playing through it again now
Brutal Legend was amazing. Had such a blast playing it, very refreshing game.
Jake is killing me with "the sabattoir" ... said it like that twice too 🤣
I would’ve loved to seen the RTS Black and White and what could have been on modern tech. Loved that one.
More recent Days Gone, really like the hordes and the world, really think that deserve a sequel.
Was thinking about Mercenaries the other day. The first one was so good, loved the playing cards format for hunting down the High value targets and all the weaponry on it. Ryse Rome was a quality game, needs to be more ancient warrior style games!
Thank you for bringing up Twisted Metal! At the start of the video i thought "maybe Twisted Metal is in this series." lol
BUT I will have to admit that the Twisted Metal show on Peacock is actually PRETTY good. As someone who's played almost all of the titles (not TM1 or Small Brawl), the show is pretty well done and I highly recommend it if you're a big fan.
Also jake I love what you falcon and anyone involved with your channell do. Its part of my routine and you guys really have amazing content. Thank you!
Thank
@@gameranxTV Thank…
Ah shut up newcomer, you won't say that if you have been here a decade ago
I loved Mercenaries 2. I finished it multiple times and just loved messing around in the world. Nobody ever seems to talk about it. Very underrated i feel
I played world in flames and I liked it but it was not as good as playground of destruction. It was too glitchy. Also there weren't as many interesting missions and weapons. The map wasn't that big either. If I could I would go back and play the game again just bc it's been so long but i would rather play the first one instead.
Brutal Legend is still one of my favorite games. As a kid I loved everything about it besides the weird balloon tower defense sections
Brutal Legend was such a fun game. It was a Jack Black Metal fever dream and I loved playing it. Twisted Metal would be a great modern PvP game.
Kinda disappointed you didn't mention Days Gone... that game is very underrated
I don't think that game failed. I think the studio that made it just didn't get quite enough to make a second one. Hope they do though, loved Days Gone.
I would say brütal legend didn’t fail. Had a huge fanbase , really fun for old gamer generation, and like you said still has a cult following today.
In my opinion the versus mode was really fun, a really wacky command and conquer style
Nice to know that a baseball player doesn't just sit there and retire they finally do something truly meaningful and founded a studio
I know you had Twisted Metal as an auto assault but what about the Interstate '76 Franchise ? This would include Interstate '76, Interstate '82 ,and Vigilante 8 on Playstation. I used to love those games. Another game I thought would've been a big hit , Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy. It was fun and had things that I didn't see in other games at the time. My only issue was that something aboutthe graphics gave me a headache after about a half hour, but it was so fun kept coming bac to it.
Modnation Racers is really good example. It was a game (created by new grounds) that was a Mario Cart type game. I wouldn't call it a clone, because it changed a lot about the pure foundation and customization.
It is a fun and entertaining game that actually is really funny sometimes too.
👍🏼
@@gameranxTV I really really wish you guys would make a Part 2 to include MNR.
Only thing I didn't like was the weapons. You had so much cool stuff including DBZ characters and the mystery machine
I've been playing games even before you were born, me and Falcon are dinosaurs of gaming industry but sadly i've never heard of that game maybe its so ugly nobody noticed it before
@@leonr1985 Okay, look. Alot of people have been playing video games way before I was born, and maybe it's not your type of game.
But you coming in the comments saying "oh yeah, I don't know the game, but I bet it's ugly." Just sounds like you are being an asshole because you have nothing else to do.
This comment was supposed to be for a game that was really on the PS3 all the way back in 2010, Of course you might not know it. But there is no need for your unneeded call for attention.
I think the issue with twisted metal is it came out during teen days of couch cooping here the fun was more in hanging out with your friends drinking Pepsi and eating pizza while just blasting each other in split screen coop.
However, we don’t really do that much anymore so it just doesn’t hold the same appeal
yeah, but why don't we? it's a bit of a self-fulfilling thing where we don't do it because no games support it, so then we don't do it and then games don't support it.
*Coke
Fixed that to a not disgusting drink for ya ;)
For any of my fellow pilots who are unable to use the northstar mod on pc for whatever reason, Titanfall 2 has been updated recently and currently works on consoles. This is relatively new (give or take a week at the time of this post) and thankfully Titanfall is having somewhat of a resurgence.
I appreciate listing Paragon in this.
It's not the same for sure with the other studios who are using the assets that Epic put up to be downloaded for free.
But they have to do most of the balancing and hardwork for their games.
Titanfalls 2 multiplayer was amazing, but the story was soo incredibly good, i cant actually believe ive played something that good 😢🔥 i never will understand how that game wasnt more successful
It was released literally released between Battlefield and COD, if EA waited to release it, the game would have done great
@@marcoscruz6883 well now i understand why the game wasnt as successful 😅
Loved playing twisted metal. Granted I sucked at the game but it was a lot of fun. I've also seen the series and can say I enjoyed it. Glad to have experienced the series. Sure do miss the car battle arena days.
