    Jay, you should make a 4 foot by 6 foot cold coat closet at your main door entry so that you have a cold break between the outside and inside.

    BIG water catchment holding tank at the pole barn can function as your pressurized water source for your future forever house down at camp. Make that elevation difference work in your favor.

    You two must have ended this video, looked at each other and simultaneously said ‘oh, my god - did we just tell everyone we were going to do all this?!’ Yes, you did and we are all really excited to follow along with your projects! I’m voting for a 2 to 1 ratio, 2 practical projects, 1 fun/relaxing project, rinse and repeat.

    That is a big and impressive list!! Love the sounds of everything, but I would definitely get started on the hot tub pro-ject as the ‘fun’ one because it can be a great retreat at the end of your work days on the ‘need to do’ stuff on the list. Or early mornings!

    • @OffgridwithJayandJen

      When I watched the video I realized how hefty the list was as well, lol. I agree Michy, it would make Jen happy too start with the hot tub as well, so think that is a good place to start. Thanks for watching and the support, it means a lot. Best wishes

    It's going to be an exciting year for you two with your plans and all I have to say is "GO FOR IT"!!! Years ago I bought a 6 person hot tub and put it inside a family room in the basement and I did this for 3 boys where were in sports year around and it helped their muscles, etc. Never had a problem with moisture because we had an industrial fan that ran when the cover was off the spa and it worked out well for the boys' aches and pains from football for sure. FIRST WATER, then Green House and then SPA!!! YIPPEEEEE!!!

    Don’t give up on your idea about a well up by the cabin. Low lying land does not always mean you’re closer to water. There’s a lot of water at the tops of mountains and hills. Give me a call if you have any questions. Thanks for the tour

    IMO... The entry to stop snow and mud from entering the cabin then the water system because of the bliss of running water. Your lives will be easier with those and make the rest of the projects easier too! Love from Texas.

    An arctic entry sounds awesome. Save those inside floors. Lol love the hot tub, the root cellar. Homestead Rescue has several root cellar/ greenhouse ideas. Your place is looking very comfortable. I'd do a hot tub first. It's important to give yourself a treat when a hard day is done. You two are amazing.

    Jay, your gutters will freeze and the ice will backup into the gutters. My solution was to use the vinnal gutters and down spouts where at the ends of the gutters, I could pop the end-caps off and the ice wouldn't back up. Also, the downspouts would need to be kept about 2 feet off the ground so that any ice water would run off instead of freezing.

    • @BS.-.-
      @BS.-.- Рік тому +1

      They have a metal roof. No gutter stands a chance once the snow slides.

    • @OffgridwithJayandJen
      @OffgridwithJayandJen  Рік тому

      Ya the winter will be rough. Hoping to have enough water stored before the freeze comes. Then maybe just supplement it through the winter Here or there. 🤷‍♂️

    You guys have accomplished a lot this year! And so much more on the agenda. Do you get a lot of mosquitos there in summer? I heard that mosquitos can transmit heartworm to dogs, so If you can't plant in the ground try planting several containers of rosemary, basil and lemon grass (citronella plant). I'm in SE Mich and those plants really do help repel mosquitos.

    • @OffgridwithJayandJen
      @OffgridwithJayandJen  Рік тому +1

      The first two years Here were horrible with mosquitoes....but the last two years not as bad. I think they got killed off a bit with late freeze ups.....so hoping for the same this year. Thanks for the tips on plants 😄

    Awesome Idea, I think you could put outdoor carpet on the porch when you finish it, that way you would have some green area and also when you come out of the house you would not have to put on shoes to relax after a long work day.

  • @ilonakatalindako-tolman5545

    Pretty cool ...and the tub for sure, right on... summer becomes even more pleasant 😊

  • @davidpatrick1813
    @davidpatrick1813 Рік тому +1

    Good idea with the cutting into hill with green house... as that mass earth area can be used for maintaining
    the temperatures as well as other things. ... Sounds like fun ... all the goals... An idea before you close
    up the sides of the cabin... I would put in a good number of pier blocks ... inside and outer walls every
    four feet or such ... and then cut a custom length of a 6x6 or 8x8 block of wood and add extra support...
    if the hill, cold thaw and so on or the wood posts rot (they will) the blocks will help to keep the place in place.
    Having some black 55 gallon drums along one edge of the greenhouse wall ... with water and heated by sunlight
    will help for next winter some.

    • @OffgridwithJayandJen
      @OffgridwithJayandJen  Рік тому

      I seriously love all those ideas buddy. I have considered running all new beams perpendicular to the originals with new blocks like you mentioned, but so far the posts are doing good....so we will see. Be smart to resupport before closing it in.

    Enjoying your videos! I live in a 400 square ft. cabin and have been working on it for 4 years now! I am lucky I have gravity water. You can have it also. Watch Doug & Stacy homesteading, they will show you how they do it using run off water from their roofs. I love watching off griders on their journey!I just bought a green house which will be hooked on to my cabin, may I suggest building that first because of the cost of food and if it will be available?? I have loads to do here,so I guess we are going to be busy this summer lol God Bless

    Lots of fun projects to watch for now!! I remember commenting on one of your videos when you may have finished the siding that now all you need is a hot tub LOL I think you should do that first so then after all the other projects get worked on you have a place to go and relax....right?

      It is hard to show in the videos...it is steep roads getting to the cabin.

    Hello you guys, glad to see everything is coming together and you have a plan going forward. It's quite a list but you have to start somewhere and water, garden, solar.. must have.. looking forward to seeing it in action.

    Jay, be sure to put at least a 1 inch drop for every 10 foot of gutter run so that the water will run off quickly and not backup and then freeze.
