About your barbecue question. It is to GRILL in American English also. Meaning to cook over an open flame, usually on a gridiron. To grill also means to question someone intensely (in American English). To grill someone this way implies that they may have done something wrong. Most Americans prefer grilled food to being grilled about what they've been up to.
I loved the variety of this episode, so many beautiful scenes…Ivar with his umbrella and being tossed and chased by his uncle, Tova sunning in the grass with her brother, the new lambs, flowers, butterflies, a walk in the woods, the beautiful smoked ribs, the window work, the salyx tree, gathering with family around the table…I loved everything about it. Thank you.
I would love to hear more about what you learned regarding forest diversity & how to approach it! Your channel is wonderful! Educational, entertaining, and so enjoyable!
Have you ever watched a channel called "My self reliance"? Shawn talks a lot about the forest he lives in in Canada. He believes in diversety in the forest. He has also harvested lots of trees for the cabin that he built making sure that he saves those trees that are beneficial for diversety and and cutting down the trees, when removed, to bring more sun light into the forest to let the young ones grow.
What an absolutely lovely episode. Thank you so much for filming, editing , all the time and effort that goes into the episode while at the same time keeping the farm and the family running. All three of you are truly heroes! Please keep up this wonderful work and take care!
Beautiful in every way. Thank you for allowing us to see the beauty you experience everyday…not an easy way to live but I admire your desire to live this off grid lifestyle in this beautiful area of the world.
You all work so hard and devotedly, while I have the luxury and pleasure with gratitude to watch your beautiful videos. Ivar is growing so much and as he speaks Swedish I wonder at the ease children learn while for me as an adult my mind cannot even figure out how to shape the sounds, lol. The lambs are so cute and jumping around. What a wonderful rhythm of life for Ivar to experience.
In Canada a BBQ is basically either coals or gas like a grill and we BBQ almost anything in it. From veggies to meat. It's a fairly quick process. I love the idea of creating biodiverse forests again. Very interesting. I'm excited about all the moss the chickens are tearing up. Lovely family visit.❤
Impressive! your astute 'eye' for video material, your parenting skills with Ivar, your growing knowledge of regenerative farming, and . . . your increasingly comfortable use of English vocabulary. I wish you had more time to create more videos!!! Thanx :>)
Your videos are never too long!! I loved watching the lambs playing together. Great to see Ivar is already an expert at using a rake. The wildflowers and butterflies are beautiful and it is wonderful to see how your land is coming back to life under your careful husbandry. Tova you look very tired, I hope all is well with you.❤
Lady slippers to die for! Once lady slippers were common in New England, USA but many indigenous species are now rare/protected. Protect those marvels for Ivar.
Aggree with you,...Natur always is trying to get its way ,...its keeps teaching us .....if we let it,...you are doing your best way to cooperate with natures way ❤️ 💙 💜
Dearest Mathias and Tova, your UA-cam channel is my absolute favourite! Your videos are beautiful, heart warming and a blessing for me. I have seen them all but still can't get enough xx
Regenerative forestry: yes! Another great endeavour for generations to come. Lovely. The house is coming along, the fruittrees seem to be doing well. Good to see you are enjoying summer and the lambing went well. The pastures look good, your ribs scrumptious and all the fluffy grass (wollegras) is gorgeous. Ivar looks so good! Thanks again for letting us tag along!
Another lovely video. Thank you for sharing with us, it’s great to see you enjoying summer and connecting with family, especially Ivar having fun with his uncle :) Bless you all! 🌟
Again what a wonderful episode, thank you. Your little one is very chatty, has great camera awareness and is charming to watch! Mind you, Mathias was equally delightful when showing the cured sausage and smoked ribs, the camera really catches both the pride and the temptation to munch the meat... Missed you Tova. Take care, C.
Your videos are NEVER too long would love for you to meet my children who live in Texas just around the corner from Franklins Barbeque! Thanks for sharing your journey.
we Grill and Smoke here in Wisconsin . But if we smoke we put it in brine the night before and smoke the next day So nice to see the baby sheep so healthy
Your teaching your son the love and respect of Mother Nature and our forests is the one of the most valuable of lessons. Ivar may just grow up to be one of Sweden’s preservationists of it’s forests and waters. (i.e., if it is not too late!) P.s. Not to worry; the videos are never too long. You have a lovely piece of land. The gamboling of the lambs is so wonderful to see! Enjoyed every segment of the vlog. Your taking an imaginary bite of that luscious rib of meat is an LOL. Yes, here too, grilling is big here in the midwest U.S.A.!
Your vivid depiction of summer days in the north of Sweden captures the tranquility and beauty of nature, reflecting your deep appreciation for the serene landscapes and unique culture. And I am Floating Village Life
Here in the US Midwest, grilling is cooking over a fire or coals. BBQ is smoking or slow cook over indirect heat for meat a long time with a BBQ sauce or a rub.
Lovely to see - the field looks great, congratulations on the meat! In UK English grill and barbecue are similar words and they are not used precisely - Grill = inside or outside, open, not really covered, heat from above or below. Like a grill in an oven with the heating elements above, door open. Or a grill over a fire (which some people call a barbeque) Barbecue = outside, purpose built - metal, brick/block, covered, using smoke. Condiments = mustards, sauces, dips
I opened my door early this morning and a beautiful monarch (yellow and brown) flew over my head. Was nice to see your butterflies. 🦋 😊 Cheers Edit: Beef (Rump, Chuck) Roast Pork (Lion) Roast
Wow! *Happy claps*. You are talking my language now! (I'm a forester in the US). I always wondered how you guys felt about the monoculture around your farm. It is hardly surprising that you understand the basic concepts of silviculture too! Good job, guys!
Hello from Georgia USA!!! I am a beginner in beekeeping, but I do have 2 top bar hives my husband built. I recall that you recently built your hives. Since it is only the beginning of your warm season, maybe they need more time. I’ve been leaving the hives alone and letting the bees be bees. I won’t even think of extracting honey sooner than a year after installation of the bees in your hive
As a Texas girl. Your ribs looked perfect. BBQ here is grilling and smoking. And in the smoker we call it smoking meat. I invite you to Texas. We live rurally. In the countryside. I would love to come to your country. I would love to see your culture and homestead. Love your videos. Eva is precious.
Hey, Mathias! This video is not too long, it's wonderfull☺️❤️🌼 It's a joy every time new video comes out. I would love to try the ribs. I can imagine that they are very tasty.
Fantastic video, as ever. In English, the vertical timber used to edge doors and windows is known as the 'jamb'. Quite tricky to judge the correct length in your cabin construction, but I can see that the 'keying in' detail works well to minimize problems. I have a similar issue with the size of my front door: in the dry seasons it is more or less a perfect fit for the aperture, but in the wet, damp seasons it swells to a larger size and is difficult to get closed.
Hej, in germany we call a barbeque also "Grill" and it is what you did with the Roastbeef at your grill. The Cold days in June we call "Schafskälte" in swedisch " Får kallt". Ivar is so much grown since i startet watching the video of his birth. It is really a joy for me to watch your videos and some of them i have seen twice because of so much helpful informations. Thanks for sharing.
Just love watching the newly birthed lambs in the pasture. Your smoked ribs looked absolutely delicious. Ivar is very curious and is living in an amazing place to learn and grow. 💚🐑🐓🌳🌲
From my experience, when meat is put on hot coals or gas outside cooker, in the U/S its called "grill", in Australia where I live, anything cooked on an outside cooking device, with any heat source is called a Bar-B-Q. Inside cooking when meat is put under the heat source inside the oven, Usually a separate compartment" is called a "grill", in the U/S its called a "boiler. or maybe broiler."
I love to watch Franklin’s videos also. In SouthDakota USA we call slow cooking with wood, “Smoking” and fast cooking over coals “grilling”. Your ribs and the loin your smoked looked wonderful. 😊 enjoy the summer!
Much gratitude dear friends for this lovely episode! Always filled beauty. Nice the see the cute little lambs and chickens. The smoker and the ribs looked quite delicious. I var is growing so fast and is so adorable. Thank you for bringing us for the weekend at the lake. Lots of good vibes to you dear ones 🙏💙
Barbecue and grilling are essentially synonymous if used as a verb. Texas barbecue (and other regional types) is a noun. The term for your cabin window trim is floating - built to allow for movement
Hello dear Matias, Tova and Ivor! How wonderful to see that the snow has finally melted away and the sheep are lambing. Oh....the Bar-B-Q looked wonderful and your timber house is coming along....The walk in the forest was lovely and the time on the lake so beautiful. Your self taught knowledge is so impressive .....both Mathia and Tova! Few people could survive in such harsh winters. Tova has such a beautiful smile and always is so supportive of Mathias Yes, it is so very important that we save the natural forests. Ivor is learning many things as he watches his father. Does he have some little friends nearby to visit and play with? Your 'fortitude' and determination to live on your own is so impressive. Few would survive even one winter. I look forward to more videos throughout your short summer and your many projects ....especially building your timber house. (a viewer in the U.S.)
Wonderful video… the Lady slippers are so beautiful. I haven’t see them for a long time. I guess I need to find a woods in the spring and go for a long walk. Love seeing all the new lambs as well. Thank you .🇨🇦😊
I'm familiar with Franklin barbecue , since i live in Georgia, USA. H'es on tv often. We call it grilling, searing meat over coals.most everyone has some type of grill here, all kinds. Enjoyed this video. Ivar has grown so ❤
Hello from Texas! Your bbq came out amazing! Franklin is a leader in traditional style bbq in America. He is A very known name here 🥰 I love your videos. Thank you for sharing your life. Some tips for the words you were looking for. Needle hat = crocheted (pronounced crow-shade) (item) made with 1 needle. Knitted (item) = made with 2 needles. So, knitted hat, or crocheted blanket. Flask = bottle or with sprayer (top) = Spray bottle. The word flask can be used for a pouch or canteen or water (portable water container with a strap). But, most commonly we use the word flask as a small portable container of alcohol, like whiskey. 🥃 cheers to y'all from Texas!
The word barbecue comes from the language of a Caribbean Indian tribe called the Taino. Their word for grilling on a raised wooden platform is barbacoa. The word first appeared in print in a Spanish explorer's account of the West Indies in 1526, according to Planet Barbecue.
Wonderful video! So enjoyed it! If we lived in Texas, I would love to have you as our guest! But alas-we live in Idaho! We say we “grill food on the barbecue” These words are quite interchangeable. The barbecue is the housing (outdoors) that holds the charcoals, wood, whatever is your source of fuel and the grill is the slotted rack on which we place the food items on within the barbecue. In the house oven we would call it broiling. Outdoors = barbecue. Whatever!!! You got your point across perfectly! Our love to you all!!
Wow, beautiful video. It brings me so much peace to watch your videos. They are on the top of my list for the best videos on UTube. I always look forward to watching the next one. Thank you so very much for sharing some of your life with us. Your baby is growing up so fast! What a handsome little boy...those eyes!!! And the baby goats...absolutely adorable! Please never apologize for the "long" videos...I get lost in your world when I watch them and never want them to end! The longer they are, the better! Mathias and Tova, you are beautiful human beings! Sending you HUGS HUGS and more HUGS
I’m realising why everything takes so long to come to fruition where you are - the summers are so short anyway and although it must be tempting to crack on and work, work, work on the house build, you also must take some of that nice weather time to relax and enjoy life, otherwise what is the point? Good luck with all the projects both now and in the future.
People in the US, Canada and Australia grill meat or other food on a BBQ (called a barbie in Australia). The other you mentioned is called a smoker, where you can smoke fish, meat, duck or anything really for several hours to get the smoky flavor in the cooked food. I'm sending you all best wishes, from Italy. (In Italy everything is called a forno haha - pizza oven, BBQ or an outdoor oven).
In California, grilling and BBQing is the exact same thing- cooking outside over charcoal, gas, or wood (for long or short amountof time). Oven cooking is broiling or baking. And smoking is separate form of BBQ. ❤
Wonderful video with such beautiful scenes of nature, Ivar & family, as well as the cute, hopping baby lambs! In Canada, we’ve called the diversity of plant & tree species “permaculture” where they enhance the forest or gardens & fields. A mixture of trees, fruits & vegetables works well to protect the land & pollinators. Thanks for sharing & many blessings to everyone 🤗🇨🇦
Thank you for the lovely video. I was fascinated about the lesson on monoculture. Good luck with the move from that and the help you are giving Mother Nature to correct that. Your grilled meat looked fantastic. Yes, we grill here in Wisconsin - but your's looked better!!!!!
Enjoyed this video. The old tree, the lady slippers, the lambs and those delicious looking smoked ribs were lovely to see. In my part of Canada I think the 10 minute cook is barbecued or grilled. The 8 hr is called smoked
About your barbecue question. It is to GRILL in American English also. Meaning to cook over an open flame, usually on a gridiron. Wishing all children could have wonderful parents like the both of you.
I would love to hear more about what you learned regarding forest diversity & how to approach it!
Your channel is wonderful! Educational, entertaining, and so enjoyable!
I notice the little lambs like to climb the rocks for fun, it would be neat to create like a "playground" for them 😊
What wonderful citizens of the planet you are.
Hope Texas invites you soon.
