Another really awesome trade happens in Snowbelle City in XY. If you have a Jigglypuff, you can trade it in-game for a Bisharp at level 50. Really late for a trade, but you can’t go wrong with Bisharp.
The only problem with the Alola form trades in Let's Go is that the shiny rate can't be influenced by any means. Would be great if you could trade a shiny pokémon to its shiny Alolan variant.
How was the Spearow for Hawlucha trade not on the list? It’s like the Spearow for Farfetch’d trade early on, but better in every way. Hawlucha is a really good Pokémon all round, amazing attack, Roost early on, access to Karate Chop and Brick Break right off the bat (one on the Pokemon when it’s traded, the other you get from the trial) _and_ it destroys early game. The first trial is Normal, weak to its STAB Brick Break (especially Alolan Raticate) and the Grand Trial shortly after is weak to Hawlucha’s STAB Wing Attack from its great attack stat, plus Sharp Beak can be obtained easily to give it a bit of an extra kick. Best part of this is that you get Spearow on the same route of this trade, and Hawlucha is only available on the next route. So you essentially get early access to one of the best Pokemon for a playthrough for the low cost of a measly Spearow. I’d argue this should be high on the list, the only reason why I can imagine not to be on the list is because most of the others you can’t get at all (at least without trading), but it feels like the early access should count for something.
Was looking for it too! When I found this trade, I immediately realized that it gets through normal, fighting, grass and even water trial because the totem is an Araquanid, after fire, rock, then electric since it's Togedemaru, then after ghost it gets dark and is immune to ground. That's like 1/3 of the key fights in the game that it will just break.
@@king_alloy don’t forget the Elite 4. It beats Molayne’s Bisharp, Magnezone, Alolan Dugtrio and maybe Metagross (if you give it a dark move like Night Slash). It’s strong against Olivia’s entire team with fighting moves alone, with the exception of Armaldo. Same applies to Acerola’s ghost line up you keep Night Slash on it, leaving Kahili. You’re weak against Kahili’s entire team, so just forget about this trial. Finally, the champion. If you chose Primarina, you have a super effective move against 4 of his team! You can spam fighting/flying moves against his Leafeon, Tauros, Crabominable and Incineroar, to take out the bulk of his team. Against his Raichu, you can use Night Slash once more to take out 5 of his team! Nearly an entire Champion gone, just from a single Pokemon. Really makes you stop and think about how easy this E4 is, or how (slightly) inaccurate this list is.
Honestly jynx should have it’s own spot further up the list, it’s stabs are good against the 4th, 5th and 8th gym, resists most of loralies attacks and can hit half her team neutrally, completely sweeps the next 10 Pokémon in the elite 4, can hit 4 of lances mons super effectively and your rivals pigeot, rhydon venusaur/ exeggutor and in gen 1 his charizard too so it solos like 17 of the elite 4s and champions 26 Pokémon
There's also the fact that being part psychic, as we all know, is very good in gen1, and Jynx also learns one of the best sleep inducing moves in the game in the form of her signature Lovely Kiss
To be fair, since traded Pokémon gain more experience, if you trade the Gyarados shortly after it evolved, it will overall take less effort to train that new Magikarp into a high level Gyarados, especially if you have EXP Share turned on.
...would you believe I missed the Medicham --> Haunter trade entirely on my first playthrough of Platinum, and only heard about it later from others who'd been fooled? I'd honestly forgotten to check the houses in Snowpoint for stuff at the time because I was so excited that my Munchlax had finally evolved right before I arrived in the city.
Jynx and Mr. Mime are super underrated in gen 1 and they should have been higher imo. One of the worst trades is Raichu for Electrode in gen 1. Like really? I waste my thunderstone to get a ball that doesn't even learn electric moves? wack
Here'd be an interesting twist for Mindy. Knowing that people are on to her trollery with Haunter, she switches to Kadabra. "Haha! Did my KADABRA evolve into something else... wait, what? It did...? But I made it hold something that prevents it from evolving! Could KADABRA be immune to its effects...?" In fact, ever since Gen 4, Kadabra has in fact been immune to Everstone's ability to prevent evolutions. In Gen 3, all four of the Kanto trade evolutions would instead force their way through and *destroy* the Everstone in the process.
The Hoenn trades are made to be contest Pokémon with good natures for context with an extra boost to a context stat It's still a bad trade but it's sudo-justified
It's only number one because so many people are salty about it. I would argue that from a purely objective standpoint, trading a Gyrados for it's pre-evolution, a FAR weaker Magikarp (which also isn't even a difficult Pokemon to find and catch, just to add insult to injury) is a much worse deal by comparison

Where I'm from we were really slow catching up with technology so it was pretty sad being quite literally the only kid in the entire neighbourhood who had or was even interested in owning a Gameboy. Trades were impossible for me.
You forgot the Jasmine trade. She will trade you anything for her Steelix. In that same town you have the chance of fishing up a lvl 100 Magikarp. The freeist lvl 100 I've ever seen.
Honestly, I have not done the Medicham/Haunter trade. I was to busy doing other stuff and I already had a level 5 Gengar which I caught at the Old Chateau, with the help of LeafGreen in the GBA slot of my DS.
That gyarados to magikarp trade is actually REALLY useful if you think about it. Trade pokemon exp rates. Magikarp will be the same lvl as gyarados. Give it a rare candy. Then your gyarados will lvl up a helluva lot quicker
Before anyone else finds this video and comments on it: there's a similar trade in Scarlet and Violet where you trade a Pincurchin (a somewhat rare Pokemon) for a Haunter. And unlike Gen 4, the Haunter actually evolves into Gengar! Plus, it's one of the three trade evolutions in the Paldea Dex (at least in base game, not looking at leaks so it's probable there's more to come), so it's nice you can just get that one done and over with.
I legit had to check twice seeing the Bellossom trade's proposal. And Corsola isn't even as rare as the 15% looks, they show up in that city all the time.
I never had trade partner growing up, so the Mr Mime trade for me was always a no brainer. A strong Pokémon I didn’t have to worry about evolving for one I’d never get to evolve.
@@emperorcubone big same! Except I liked catching mine at the iron island we get the riolu egg. Was so cool to see trade evo in the wild for the first time.
I love the bellsprout for an onix trade. It's such a good early game pokemon though it's always hard to leave it as I don't have anyone to trade with to evolve it
One that was so great for me was Drowzee for Machop in HGSS. I watched the anime as a kid & didn’t play the games until I got myself a copy of SoulSilver. My friend told me about that trade & advised I catch a female Drowzee because the Machop I would get in return would be female. Reason why this is important is because you can do this trade before Whitney’s gym, I wiped the floor with that Machop my first time fighting Whitney.
Yeah, it was pretty difficult; I'd always offer up ludicrous requests like a Pumpkaboo for a Lugia so nobody would do it except for me. But I did get a free Cobalion once from someone actually taking the offer...
Honestly fossil trades would be pretty great! You can usually only get one so if you breed another and then trade (probably in the postgame) although I guess that's what the GTS is for...
Safe to say that we're all on the Mindy-lynch squad, right? That Haunter scam was SUCH a scummy move, and I honest to god laughed maliciously when I played Platinum with a randomizer when I made that poor Haunter evolve.
A long time ago I did a play through where I could not throw a Poké ball so I had to get through the game build my team with only Pokémon that were given to me I could buy etc. but I could not throw a Poké ball. Mr. mime ended up being one of my best Pokémon because you can actually buy an Abra from the rocket game corner and use that the trade for Mr. mime and then when you trade for him he is so powerful because he levels up so fast. Plus you can give them psychic almost immediately.
Another unique and awesome list, my friend! A little bit of a fun fact with that Bellsprout for Onix trade, I do agree with it but ironically, Bellsprout hits harder than Onix! Only by 5 Base Attack points but….how does a flower hit harder than a rock snake? Plus, some of these bad trades makes you wonder what’s the point of it. Gyarados for a Magikarp? Unless it’s a shiny, I can’t see why anyone would agree to go back to square one.
Well the Magikarp has some good EVs or something if you care about that. But I would say to stick with Bellsprout if there wasn't a Flying and Bug type gym to worry about where it's useless...
late response, but in hgss, they shouldve had the rhydon hold a protector, no matter your thoughts on rhyperior, its still a trade evolution and being able to use one, and get it WITHOUT trading would be worth a psuedo middle stage imo
I took a moment to look up the Magikarp trade, it's not as bad as it looks. It has an adamant nature. Also what's wrong with paying for a Magikarp? Just let it soak up EXP until level 20 and you have one of the strongest non-legendary Pokemon in the game before 2nd or 3rd gym depending on the game. No matter how you slice it, it's an amazing deal. Sure you can fish one up, but not until later. Gives you a headstart.
I thought of a funny way Mindy could get her just desserts, as long as they didn’t fix this. Replace the haunter for a kadabra holding a everstone. I think you know the rest~
This list is driving me wild. This fairness for evolution stages just doesn’t matter if a no-evolution Pokémon is just better. And, Onix is one of the worst Pokémon of all time.
Also, "Onix doesn't have a bad gym matchup until Cyanwood"...Everyone always forgets that the first gym is the Mud Slap gym! That's a pretty bad matchup for Onix! lol
Another bad one is a Skwovet for a Bunnelby in Sword and Shield (HONESTLY WHATS THE POINT???????). You can literally find both in the Wild Area (Bunnelby is so abundant there). Then again, another good trade is the Vanillish for Throh (In Sword) and Sawk (In Shield), since they are version exclusives (So basically you can get the opposite one in your version) and you can find Vanillish right before on Route 8.
There is a small benefit since the traded Pokémon will gain exp faster, although that particular Skwovet is guaranteed to have a mild nature which is bad for it.
I was traumatized and put off in-game trades after the one that shall not be mentioned in Snowpoint City - looks like I need to try some of these top 6 best
A lot of my fav Pokemon evolve through trades but I didnt have anyone to trade with in the main games -> hence, I always hated this feature of evolving. It was made even worse by the need to hold an item for some Pokemon.
The Corsola trade in the Ruby and Sapphire remakes is a bit easier thanks to Pick-Up ability being able get you infinite Sun Stones. Although it still is a bad trade get ride of a Bellossom for it. Just put Zigzagoon or Linoone in your team and let level up with EXP Share so it can get to level 31+ so it can start Pick Up Sun Stones.
I remember making the slower trade because the episode where team rocket get a lickitung and it one shot everything with just lick. 7 year old me was so disappointed with the results
I have some leaks, gen 9 is going to be based on India. And it's 100% true. They were alredy hinting towards this, see zarude based on a monkey species found in indian sub continent, movie plot was of a Tarzan and rainforest, copperajah, curry and so much
The Onix-Bellsprout trade is really bad. Not only does Onix have an atrocious levelup movepool, but keep in mind that you don't have the 2nd gym badge yet. This means that once you get past level 10, it will stop obeying you. You are better off catching your own Onix right ahead in Union Cave instead which is right after Violet anyway. Bellsprout at least has a great special attack stat and movepool plus you can give it Miracle Seed after Falkner. If you have to burn tm's onto something for it to be good, it had better actually BE good. Geodude is the better early game rock type in every way.
As much as possible, I avoid NPC trades that I can find in the wild, unless it's the only way to get it. Tje one that I found the most annoying is that trainer in Hoenn that gives a Seedot or Lotad (depend on the version) in return for a Ralts. Both are equally hard to find and most of the time I get my Ralts, I also get a Seedot or Lotad beforehand.
The Bellossom for Corsola trade isn't that bad actually as that Corsola can sweep all the Contests in Hoenn (which I did) and I then traded it to XD: Gale of Darkness to train it on Mount Battle to get the Earth Ribbon. I used the Chatot (nicknamed Charap) that you get for a Buizel in Eterna City as my main flying type in Diamond kept it on the team for the whole game including the Cynthia battle. Surprised that the Wooper for Larvitar trade in XD: Gale of Darkness isn't on this list.
know I'm late to the party but.......... fun fact in the ruby and sapphire remakes the Corsola you got traded has it's hidden ability making it much more valuable.
Well someone forgot you could get infinite evolution stones in Z/Y. You need to do the super secret training for a chance at a stone, but still infinite.
i actually see some sense in likitung in gen 1 as its only a post game exclusive in red and blue. so you're kinda screwed out of getting it if you only have yellow version.
The only thing I don’t like about in game trades is that the Pokemon you get ALWAYS Have Nicknames and as a player who has never nicknamed a single Pokemon it’s a real tough pill to swallow to try and then use said Pokemon
I like the trades that have a story reason or come from a well known character like the gym leader trades in HGSS and Shauna trading you a starter. Not really good for a play through since most are post game but still fun. Also the Yancy trades from BW2 giving you a bunch of hidden abilities And shout out to Eeks the Rotom from gen 5, just cause it was my first Rotom

@@heinzdoofenshmirtz8643 I don't understand how people can think that Giratina is Pokemon's version of Satan when Mindy exists.
Meister is just a trap for the forgetful +or masochists), but he isn't actually malicious.
You do have a fishing rod, so you can always train it enough to evolve or blackout
@@Moleoflands I could have said it better (sorry, English isn't my first language), but I did say you'd be trapped here for some time.
You can also faint, which may be shorter.
“Im onto you! You think that just because I’m from out of town that you can swindle me for my high priced commodities!?” Im DEAD!!! Lmao
12:42 The best version of that meme I've seen.
Medicham for Haunter with a bloody everstone is number 1 worst calling it now
Ima beat you with the Everstone you gave me
Half of the in game trades should be the pokemon that evolve by trading.
Should be, you're right!
Yeah, the fact that there are only a couple such trades is infuriating
Should be! But that completely disincentivizes you going out and buying extra trading accessories
@@eazybuxafew yeah but who wants to do that anyways , the only one who profits from that are the company selling these 😂😂
@@kinginblack2845 on god!!! lol but that’s why they did it back then. And now they just do it because they’ve been doing it 😭😭
I checked my box in Pokemon Sword. I cant believe that Thumper the Steelix is still with me for 8 years now.
He's a trooper, that one!
I still have Thumper as well.
Indeed thumper is the best steelix around!
Thank you. I think that was 100% the point of it.
The Magikarp you get from the trade in XY has perfect IVs in Attack and Sp Attack and is adamant nature. In the long run, it is an amazing trade.
Haven't watch the video yet but I'm sensing Mindy's diabolical smile
...would you believe I missed the Medicham --> Haunter trade entirely on my first playthrough of Platinum, and only heard about it later from others who'd been fooled? I'd honestly forgotten to check the houses in Snowpoint for stuff at the time because I was so excited that my Munchlax had finally evolved right before I arrived in the city.
Jynx and Mr. Mime are super underrated in gen 1 and they should have been higher imo.
One of the worst trades is Raichu for Electrode in gen 1. Like really? I waste my thunderstone to get a ball that doesn't even learn electric moves? wack
Highest speed in the game makes for a lot of gen one critical hits
@@cameronjohnson9361 being essentially USELESS since its getting crits using SWIFT. Thats its best move
The Hoenn trades are made to be contest Pokémon with good natures for context with an extra boost to a context stat
It's still a bad trade but it's sudo-justified
I think you mean pseudo :)
Number one worst will be a medicham for a haunter. Calling it right now
It's only number one because so many people are salty about it. I would argue that from a purely objective standpoint, trading a Gyrados for it's pre-evolution, a FAR weaker Magikarp (which also isn't even a difficult Pokemon to find and catch, just to add insult to injury) is a much worse deal by comparison
@@matthewkuscienko4616 Uh, no.
@@matthewkuscienko4616 perfect IV's in atk and sp atk, trade exp mechanics. Unless you're game crashes in the 10 seconds it takes to give it a rare candy it SHOULD be top 5 not bottom 5
the gyarados-magicarp trade is awesome. you're essentially trading a gyarados for a gyarados that levels up faster and all you need to do is level up the magicarp once.
And the magikarp has perfect attack and special attack ivs, with the adamant nature too.
I’m such a fan of the gen 1 trades having exclusive Pokémon. They felt like side quests with a cool Pokémon as a reward. But I just wish we could’ve renamed them.
Man, I feel sorry for Gaspar the haunter! So many people hate it just because Mindy is the worst person ever.
The best thing about Farfetch'd is that it can learn both Cut and Fly.

Funny story; in my 1st playthru of X, i saw the trade in Cillage. I then went and got a Luvdisc in the water nearby and well...the first one i fished up was a Shiny! I still have it to this day and it is one of my favourite memories of the game.
Nice! That means you would have gotten a shiny Steelix, right? (Nah, but how cool would that be?)
@@emperorcubone Especially with how cool Mega Steelix looks, it wouldve been great to get a shiny of that lol
Where I'm from we were really slow catching up with technology so it was pretty sad being quite literally the only kid in the entire neighbourhood who had or was even interested in owning a Gameboy.
Trades were impossible for me.
Hot take: all trades are equal because I won't use the mon and they all come with a new trainer ID for the lottery
Haha, good point! They are incredibly useful for that lottery though! I've gotten so many items from doing those trades...

You forgot the Jasmine trade. She will trade you anything for her Steelix. In that same town you have the chance of fishing up a lvl 100 Magikarp. The freeist lvl 100 I've ever seen.
The post game Shauna trade in X and Y is amazing because you choose what pokemon you trade for the starter yours is strong against.
Honestly, I have not done the Medicham/Haunter trade. I was to busy doing other stuff and I already had a level 5 Gengar which I caught at the Old Chateau, with the help of LeafGreen in the GBA slot of my DS.
Woke up to this after I accidentally bruised my middle finger from the door
Pretty sure if Mindy traded Kadabra instead of a Haunter, it would've evolved regardless of holding a Everstone.
That Lax Emolga from gen 5 is iconic in my opinion. Nothin was hittin like that Acrobatics. Stroll in the battle with no item like “WASSUP???”
I legit had to check twice seeing the Bellossom trade's proposal. And Corsola isn't even as rare as the 15% looks, they show up in that city all the time.
Yeah, it's ludicrous...
I never had trade partner growing up, so the Mr Mime trade for me was always a no brainer.
A strong Pokémon I didn’t have to worry about evolving for one I’d never get to evolve.
Yeah, makes sense to me; that's why I was so excited to find a wild Steelix in Sinnoh's Victory Road!
@@emperorcubone big same!
Except I liked catching mine at the iron island we get the riolu egg. Was so cool to see trade evo in the wild for the first time.
I love the bellsprout for an onix trade. It's such a good early game pokemon though it's always hard to leave it as I don't have anyone to trade with to evolve it
Yeah, that is the downside of having that trade in the same Generation as Onix's new trade evolution...
Jynx was so useful taking on all the dragonites
One that was so great for me was Drowzee for Machop in HGSS. I watched the anime as a kid & didn’t play the games until I got myself a copy of SoulSilver. My friend told me about that trade & advised I catch a female Drowzee because the Machop I would get in return would be female. Reason why this is important is because you can do this trade before Whitney’s gym, I wiped the floor with that Machop my first time fighting Whitney.
I have never thought of the GTS method because I've usually just had another 3ds around I could use, but that's a cool idea
Yeah, it was pretty difficult; I'd always offer up ludicrous requests like a Pumpkaboo for a Lugia so nobody would do it except for me. But I did get a free Cobalion once from someone actually taking the offer...
Once we get a cradily trade, we will have the ultimate trade in pokemon.
Reject Helix,
Embrace Root
Honestly fossil trades would be pretty great! You can usually only get one so if you breed another and then trade (probably in the postgame) although I guess that's what the GTS is for...
@@emperorcubone Yeah, that would be great.
Safe to say that we're all on the Mindy-lynch squad, right? That Haunter scam was SUCH a scummy move, and I honest to god laughed maliciously when I played Platinum with a randomizer when I made that poor Haunter evolve.
Ima beat you with the Everstone you gave me
A long time ago I did a play through where I could not throw a Poké ball so I had to get through the game build my team with only Pokémon that were given to me I could buy etc. but I could not throw a Poké ball. Mr. mime ended up being one of my best Pokémon because you can actually buy an Abra from the rocket game corner and use that the trade for Mr. mime and then when you trade for him he is so powerful because he levels up so fast. Plus you can give them psychic almost immediately.
In Scarlet and violet, there is a NPC that offers a Haunter without everstone in exchange for a pincurchin.
Also, traded Pokémon get an experience boost, so it takes less effort to raise them in the long run.
The Haunter trade is number 1 right? Right?!
Ima beat you with the Everstone you gave me
I’m still waiting on the in game trade machine
I also
@@LeDave257 it’s crazy that we can wonder trade and have Pokémon Home but still no in game machine
They do use link cable items for trade evolutions in the Mystery Dungeon spinoffs.
Before even watching this, I knew Gaspar was going to be on the list.
late response, but in hgss, they shouldve had the rhydon hold a protector, no matter your thoughts on rhyperior, its still a trade evolution and being able to use one, and get it WITHOUT trading would be worth a psuedo middle stage imo
How about you give the bouldore an everstone?
Woah woah woah. Gyarados for magikarp is actually a good trade. Boosted xp on that magikarp that will evolve in one level? Give me that!
A Luvdisc for a Steelix????
Greatest trade ever.
That's a pretty bad matchup for Onix! lol
the everstone haunter trade made me so angry man. game freak really wanted to hurt us with that one
Ima beat you with the Everstone you gave me
Another bad one is a Skwovet for a Bunnelby in Sword and Shield (HONESTLY WHATS THE POINT???????).
For sure, they're not all ripoffs!
@@emperorcubone Yeah. Like Luvdisc for Thumper. Steelix is such a great Pokémon.
A lot of my fav Pokemon evolve through trades but I didnt have anyone to trade with in the main games -> hence, I always hated this feature of evolving. It was made even worse by the need to hold an item for some Pokemon.
I always get Marcel/mimien while in Kanto. It's a good psychic type if you're too lazy to get slowbro or alakazam
I loved the Jynx trade, my preferred Psy type.
Funny enough, in Pokémon Let's Go, Alolan Muk turns the Mewtwo battle into a cakewalk, it's hilarious
Liam and you are my fav poketubers
Ithink the Kadabra for graveler might be the one that was changed to Raichu in the English and that’s why he says it evolved.
I remember making the slower trade because the episode where team rocket get a lickitung and it one shot everything with just lick. 7 year old me was so disappointed with the results
I have some leaks, gen 9 is going to be based on India. And it's 100% true. They were alredy hinting towards this, see zarude based on a monkey species found in indian sub continent, movie plot was of a Tarzan and rainforest, copperajah, curry and so much
I actually like the emolga trade because I prefer the Pokémon and the 1.5 xp gain is great
The Onix-Bellsprout trade is really bad.
If Mindy isn't here I would be furious 😂
Ima beat you with the Everstone you gave me
The best in game trade was gen 4! Putting a Pokémon on the Gts. Leaving, coming back, taking it down and it evolving 🙏🏾🙏🏾 no help required
That's very true, I don't like nicknames at all so I usually don't find their names very good...
I like the trades that have a story reason or come from a well known character like the gym leader trades in HGSS and Shauna trading you a starter. Not really good for a play through since most are post game but still fun. Also the Yancy trades from BW2 giving you a bunch of hidden abilities
And shout out to Eeks the Rotom from gen 5, just cause it was my first Rotom
Bad news. The Haunter girl STILL does that in the remakes. That didn’t happen to me but I saw footage of that on UA-cam earlier.
In US/UM u can trade a Spearow for Hawlucha, that bird is probably the most helpful Pokémon in those games,it can almost handle everything & hit it with stab
