  • You may have noticed that, on occasion, your 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee shuts off while driving--specifically, when you come to a stop for a few moments. This is start stop technology, a fuel economy feature designed to promote fuel efficiency and improve gas mileage. The feature uses an autostop and autostart/restart feature to cut down on gas consumption while idling at a stop.
    Mopar (a simple contraction of the words MOtor and PARts) was born on August 1, 1937, as the name of a line of antifreeze products. Mopar has since evolved over 80 years to serve as the total service, parts and customer-care brand of all FCA vehicles around the globe.
    Mopar made its mark in the 1960s during the muscle-car era, with Mopar Performance Parts to enhance speed and handling for both road and racing use, and expanded to include technical service and customer support. Today, the Mopar brand’s global reach distributes more than 500,000 parts and accessories in over 150 markets around the world. With more than 50 parts distribution centers and 25 customer contact centers globally, Mopar integrates service, parts and customer-care operations in order to enhance customer and dealer support worldwide.

    This option should default to OFF, then allow the driver to turn it ON if desired.

    This start/stop should be an option, an option I would not get.

    It can be disabled. Under the hood left side there is a spring loaded pin that compresses when the hood is shut. Disconnect the wire going to that pin. An error message will come on every time you start it but it will go away in second or two. A YELLOW start/stop icon will appear on your dash. No check engine lights! Will not void warranties. I have been doing this for two years with my 2019 Grand Cherokee Altitude with no problems. I do reconnect when I go in for service just in case.

    The person at Jeep Chrysler that made this button NOT a memory button needs to be fired immediately!!! Its so dumb that it is always on when you start your car. UA-cam is filled with complaints and workarounds for this feature that SHOULD come from the factory!!!

    Agree it should be always off. Besides: it’s a lie it saves fuel. In order for this system to work it needs an extra aux better of heavier battery. Heavier starter motor and some other things b this all results in a heavier car and thus in higher fuel consumption.
    The argument that better (lighter) more heavy duty parts might fix this is also not valid: those parts could be used on a vehicle without the feature and then be lighter duty and weight.
    The only true test is to add extra weight when testing with auto start active and remove it when it’s disabled and compare.
    The EPA test drive of course is not relevant is it was designed to come up with the desired answer. Lots of stops.
    This is not how I drive and most people don’t
    Cars use the absolute most fuel during accelerating.

    I agree the stupidest feature jeep has installed in any of its suv’s /car in general. I HATE IT. I HOPE THEY MAKE THIS AN OPTION TO GO AND DISABLE IT AT A JEEP DEALER,,,, AT NO COST TO THE CONSUMER. OF COURSE 🙄

    It is better to memorize the on / off state even when the engine is turned off, like Park Sense. I don't want to use this function because I hate that the steering wheel moves a little when the engine restarts automatically.

    Forces car to stall out when it malfunctions. Also now being linked to several fatal accidents. Lawsuits on the way.

      i figured it would. it doesn't take much effort to step on the gas faster than the engine starts. next thing you know the jeep is pulling a wheelie through the intersection

    Will cause more accidents I think. When I want to go, I want the engine to go, not "start". Real bad news in icy weather.

      Stupid idea cost owners thousands in premature component failure save no gas

      I feel that it wouldn’t be made to do so if it caused damaged, i think thats why my new Jeep has an extra battery looking thingy unlike my 2018 4 cyclinder without it. I notice a different in gas

      SliderFury1 So what if the components are designed for it. Big deal. It still wears and tears; period hot or cold start does not matter. Still reduces to longevity of the parts and potential safety risks.

    Is there a way to permanently disable this stupidity?

  • @bentdog5921
    @bentdog5921 Рік тому

    I’m so glad California dictates what happens in the rest of the country. I have a fleet of Chrysler vehicles and stop / start has failed in all of them with less than 40k miles. Permanent disable is the only way to keep these vehicles out of the shop.

  • @Derwin63
    @Derwin63 4 роки тому +1

    well, I find it useful. If you don't want it, just push the button to disable it. I like it, my old vehicle, a 2006 Caravan, I was actually doing this, I would kill the engine at long traffic stops. Why keep running the engine? Then our new car does this automatically!

      It takes more gas to stop and restart your car then it would just sitting at a red light.
