    The Grand Cherokee Trailhawk is a VERY capable machine. People in Wranglers and Rubicons laugh when you show up to a trail. After I’m able to go where they can go, but in comfort and luxury, they sing a different tune. The “that’s not a real Jeep” changes to, “Wow I didn’t know they could do that”.

      I wouldn't call those stock, they're Goodyear Wrangler Duratracks, some pretty beefy A/T's I'd say, however would be nicer with more sidewall and smaller wheels so he could air down

    Glad to see a channel dedicated to something other than a wrangler. Love my 06 GC limited with the 5.7. It's completely stock yet it still takes me places most people wouldn't imagine. It does have every factory option that was available in 06.
    Just yesterday we went to the beach at Ft. Fisher and several people commented that we would never make it to the beach without getting stuck. We passed 2 wranglers stuck in the sand yet we had no issues.

    I’m 48 - I have cervical issues in my neck from 20 years in IT. I’ll take the comfort and the capability of my 2020 TH than a wrangler any day...and when I drive from Tampa to the smokies in one 10 hour day, my body is very thankful to be in a comfortable truck. Our other truck is a 2018 4runner TRD pro and although it’s a bit more capable...it’s not nearly as comfortable.

      Hwy miles and Hwy speeds are why I got the Gr. Cher THawk. Too much hwy time. Step in left lane you better be doing 80mph. Renting another Wrangler for a short stay in Co. Another test hop. Will give it another assessment.

    These are nice Jeeps and very capable for what they are. We run the old Cherokees on at least 37s and about 10 inches of lift. When we get to the gravel (rock) part of the trail we look for the harder path. Keep those mall crawler going . Have fun and be safe.

    As a Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland owner, I don't think I will see any terrain this extreme, but we do head to some offroad areas when we visit northern Michigan and of course snow during ski season. It's nice to know, based on your demonstrations, my Jeep is more than capable of what we'll encounter.

    I've been on three Jeep Jamborees in my 2017 Trailhawk and every time I've been underestimated. Granted, not many people are going to bring a nice $50k jeep out that might get body damage, but that's exactly what they're doing with their upgraded Rubicons and Wranglers. All I have are rock sliders added on. If you get a TH, make sure that comes with it. Also, I was asked if I had lockers and I said I had QuadraTrac electronic lockers. I was almost laughed at. I called them Locker Snobs. I personally think what I have is better. I love my Trailhawk.

    Back in the early twenty-teens I owned and frequently offloaded an FJ Cruiser with a largely FJ/Toyota club. One of the members had gotten a new (circa 2012) WK2 Laredo X when his family had their second child. He brought it out to Uwharrie with us on one trip and we were all very impressed with it. With just sliders and good tires it kept up with the FJs on almost everything, including some obstacles we had to recover more built Wrangers from.

    I agree that these are very capable especially Trail Hawks. The problem is some people take things for granted and spoil the name. Once I spent 2+ hrs on the trail recovering a grand Cherokee that the owner was on street tires, refused to air down and I get it, and did not have recovery points. It really caused a lot of problem for the group and now people avoid that person to go on trails. If people just improve their understanding of their rigs then these are amazing rigs.

    i have a 2018 summit now, but i had a 2011 overland with the 5.7. i was at the beach. a honda accord parked in the sand and got stuck. i watched a lifted f150, 1500 and ram all try and just spin and sink the in sand. then i tried with my jeep and the and setting and it spun slowly, controlled, all 4 wheels at the exact same speed, with warn street tries and pulled the honda out with almost no problem. it pissed off ALL of the truck owners and we got a roaring applause from the neighboring condo balconies that happened to be watching lol. was a VERY jeep moment, back in '12. i've been doing this in these GCs longer than these people on youtube even knew what these jeeps they were...

    Im cross-shopping the new Defender and Land Cruiser for the next year, but didn't consider the new GC until today. I used to run a ZJ. Was great, until the front ring and pinion stripped. Just Duratracs and no rear sway bar. Did all the rock around Yellowknife here. I've had lots of 4x4's, and love exploring, road tripping and camping. RTT is currently on the wife's RAV4, but I can't wait to get back into a proper 4x4 again. I traded my 2015 Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited manual transmission for a 2022 Grand Cherokee WK2 (Quadra-trac II). For everyday use and paved roads there is no comparison. Jeep sells more Grand Cherokees than Wranglers. For off-road, Wranglers have the most capability. The Grand Cherokee is the better choice for practical dual usage. The Grand Cherokee has an incredibly strong unibody and great 4-wheel drive system. The Wrangler wins in the residual value category - they really hold their value in the used car market. Loved my Wrangler Rubicon with manual transmission, but I smile every time I drive my WK2. Grand Cherokee also gets better MPG ratings and has a much more comfortable ride. I believe that everyone should really own both vehicles. I love them both - they are different vehicles for different uses. The Grand Cherokee is deceptively capable off road - they are no slouches. Well, they are a JEEP. Cherokee Trail Hawk is very good too.

    Snow m9de is for normal driving in light snow day or hard snow surface. In deep snow you need momentum to even more from start. So use sand mode for no limit performances and mud for slipery depart deep snow/ice as well. Its not only about the surface or the stabilité control . There are more way wheels lock on spin of engin killed as well. I drove mine up nothing Québec Canada and I use the modes.
    Also to park down hill of icy condition use slow to lock wheels cause it's a propulsion it will go down and slip ;)

    The guy with the grey GC is going to get himself, his kids, or someone else hurt. There is always that one guy who thinks they are super cool and that the skinny pedal is the answer to every obstacle. It's one thing if you want to be reckless on the trail with no one in the vehicle with you, but when you expose your kids to dangerous situations (i.e. reckless driving by flooring it on a technical trail that could result in a rollover) that is just wrong. GC's are very capable as you have clearly shown, but they are also not made for rock crawling. I can't understand why someone would buy a GC to specifically go out on hard technical trials. Taking a day trip to a location that off the beaten path on a 2 track or unimproved road with some rough patches is one thing, but going out to an OHV park with these vehicles does not make sense to me.

    • @billlee6018
      @billlee6018 2 роки тому

      You're correct about his driving. He's a dangerous person to be around. As far a a GC out rock crawling I have to disagree. I currently have a 2021 Cherokee Trailhawk but back in the day I went through a string of new WJs. Mine always had lift kits, rock rails, skid plates and appropriate off-road tires and they had no issue rock crawling and I could always keep up with the Wranglers.

  • @WisconsinDIYGuy
    @WisconsinDIYGuy 3 роки тому +1

    Good video. It's always good seeing what you can and can't do with a vehicle. Sorry for Cory, that had to be expensive. He had offset (to the outside) on those wheels and quite large wheels. That put both more twisting and leveraging force on his suspension making it more likely to bend. It tells me to go no more than 265/65/18 and stick with factory offset, then stick to trails within that setup.

    • @hartmut-kraft
      @hartmut-kraft 3 роки тому

      Really good point imo. I am still trying to understand how the offset really helps you better with obstacles. Clearly makes a great stance but does it really help better off-roading?

    • @WisconsinDIYGuy
      @WisconsinDIYGuy 3 роки тому

      I thought someone more knowledgeable would answer. But... an inch or two of added width will decrease risk of rollover a little. Like 1 or 2%. Very little but something. Modded jeep buggys go very wide. If that offset just causes the tires to hit the fender more it's not useful offset.

    BUT, still have my '07 JGC Limited Hemi with QD-II. Reasons why I don't want to get rid of it just yet is that it has:
    rear live axle
    front and rear electronic lockers (yes, on the WK-I the QD-II included rear and FRONT lockers!)
    also:

    Needs a front locker, but these WK2s are definitely not just grocery getters. Also if people are considering one I'd get it with the hemi over the 3.6L. So much more power especially if you plan to lift and put larger tires.

    I bought my wife a grand Cherokee L 4x4 and yes she uses it to do every day mom stuff and you can call it a mall crawler or what ever you want. All in know is that she loves it and that if she ever encounters a situation where she needs the 4x4 it’s there available for her. When someone gives me money to purchase a vehicle I’ll start caring what they think about how we use it. Lol

    When they get stuck going up, the back wheel is spinning and not the front. If all four wheels were turning, thye would easily go right up. Locking front and rear diffs are a must if you are going to want to explore in the wilderness by yourself. Getting stuck can be a nightmare.

    had one guy running his mouth about my Cherokee, which is a decently built LATITUDE not even a trail hawk, I swiftly reminded him that my jeep is in the same place his wrangler went. He didn't like it when I said that he needs a rig as built as his was since his skill level isn't up to par

    Love the content! I live vicariously through these videos. I have a stock 2018 GC Trailhawk and would love to come down and test out the capability. I’m upgrading tires to either the falcon wild peaks or the K02’s - 265/65/18. The K02’s are actually cheaper right now here in 🇨🇦.

    Well now I know, I have a 2018 Grand Cherokee, 5.7, with all the luxury items, all the skid plates, air ride, full sun roof. Like I said everything, loaded out. I thought it would be able to handle a trail. Now I know. I owned a 1974 Ramcharger in the late 70's, it saw a lot of trail time. Best vehicle I ever owned. This Grand Cherokee reminds me of it so much. But I have a 2001 Wrangler now too that see's the woods/trails. Just can't bring myself to put the Cherokee out there yet.
    Can you put larger diameter tires and wheels on the G Cherokee and still use air ride ?
    Been watching your adventures, really enjoy some of the stuff you get into. Keep it up

      Don'r get to cocky with it unless you buy an aftermarket lower front guard to replace the PLASTIC belly pan which to me is absurd considering real protection there would bombproof the radiator, the acc sensor housing. Etc
      Chief or 6 Monkeys make good lower guards with ACC sensor compatibility it's like adding a skid plate that protects your sump and radiator from below...looks awesome too and I swear it improved fuel efficiency it doesn't hand as low as the stock belly pan

    I think the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk and the Cherokee Trailhawk with a 2-inch lift and 32s capabilities are REALLY close. If the Cherokee isn't lifted the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk wins, no question. If you come to Alabama ( Yeah now you have a Gladiator ;'-) ) and I'm invited to go, I'll go. I still need to go Check out Talladega National Forrest 600-1 and 600-2 (600-2 is more interesting). Lifted Cherokee Trailhawk is about like a Stock FJ with a little bit less flex although my friend with an FJ is blown away by my Cherokee. The FJ has more upgrade potential for sure - for now anyway.

    I have a '14 GC Overland with QTII. I want to take it off road but I only have stock All Season Tires. Any recommendations for AT tires for the 20" rims?

    • @ProdigalOverland
      @ProdigalOverland  2 роки тому +1

      Honestly, Both the 20 inch rims and tires are an issues. If your only wanting to do light stuff, stay with what you have until you are forces to upgrade. I'm not sure id invest in AT tires and not swap out to a smaller wheel.
