In Hungary, we have one of the highest gas prices in the eastern block. We pay 610 forints for one liter of E10 gas, and since 1 gallon is roughly 4 liters (3,79 liters to be exact), it costs us 2312 forints which is 6,5 dollars. We actually had your prices roughly 10 years ago.
0:15 the fact that he took ALL 7 OF HIS FAMILIES CARS to a station for one clip, just goes to show the amount of effort he puts into these videos and i love it
I quit watching 2 minutes in. Too much bullshit filler. I'm not sitting thru a 16 minute vid and 4 ads to hear something he could have filmed/explained in 2-3 minutes.
Liked the video, but for the people going to the Netherlands and probably other European countries, please note that the gas standards have changed since 2019. The Shell V-power a.k.a. premium E-5 is the regular fuel from before 2019. That means that if you're driving a car that's older than 2019 and it says to use E-10(Euro 95) choose E-5(Euro 98 / V-power or premium. so E-5(Euro98) is the old E-10(Euro95).
ChrisFix haha bro your still replying on this video to this day. Super dope been watching you for a while now I think it was around the time of how to replace your blinker fluid😂
I've gone to bed every night for my entire life wondering what the difference is between the gas numbers. I can now sleepy soundly at night. Thank you.
Dude i'm only a few minutes in, thought i'd emphasize the quality AND effort of your videos. I know you're making great revenue with this level AND have a thriving business. Good job! You deserve it. Holy crap great content. You do not disappoint.
This is one of the rare premium quality informational videos on UA-cam. I actually felt sad when I realized the video was ending, not realizing it had been 16 minutes already. Thank you for your dedication.
I work in Oil & Gas industry specializing in Refining and Distribution. I get to hear all these myths all the time and the most annoying is that people do not want to hear the truth as they believe "Expensive is better". Anyways, great explanation and although we DO NOT recommend adding those Octane boosters as most of these are more gimmicky and running a lower Octane is fine for most cars in emergency and it is better to fill up only as much needed (until next Gas Station) and then topping up with usual grade or one grade higher just for that fill up and return back to recommended fuel. Cheers...!!!
I've never seen or had someone teach/explain to me the difference in gasoline like the way this guy does. It's actually very informative and easy to follow. Thanks a bunch!
Can you do a video on supermarket fuel vs branded fuel. Because I was running asda supermarket fuel and even though it was the cheapest option in my area I realised that my fuel was running out quickly in comparison to shell fuel even though I'm technically getting less fuel for my money with shell.... And also I noticed on a different occasion that after running tesco momentum 99 supermarket fuel after about three tanks my engine started to sound a bit rough, but after returning back to shell fuel my engine became much smoother again... So I know that supermarket fuel is definitely not as good as branded fuel... Would you do a video on that...?
I'm a chemist and have worked in a lab testing gasoline and diesel. This is for the protection of the consumers in our state. I'm pretty sure most states have a lab to do this. Most of the information in your video is correct and very useful. Thank you for making sure to emphasize the octane rating you see at the pump is NOT the energy content of the gas. It's all pretty much the same between 87 and 93, unless of course it has a higher percentage of ethanol (Uh can we say E-85? why would someone run this fuel 🙄). Ethanol will decrease the amount of energy in the gasoline, but it's added to make the gasoline burn cleaner and is good up to 10%. Something you didn't emphasize enough though is what "octane rating" actually is. It is NOT the amount of octane in the gasoline. There is little to no octane actually in gasoline (octanes are eight carbon hydrocarbons). The octane rating is the "equivalent amount of octane" in the fuel so that will resists knocking as if it contained that percent of octane. Gasoline is mostly made up of mixtures of toluene, and xylenes. If you ran pure toluene as your gasoline, you'd be getting about a 110 octane rating, but this wouldn't necessarily be good for your engine. When gasoline is made, the manufacturers control the mixture of hydrocarbons to get a clean burn and the proper vapor pressure (vapor pressure is the pressure of the vaporized gas above the liquid, not to be confused with the engine pressure). Also the gasoline must be protected from oxidation (this is why you add fuel stabilizer when storing for a long time) and contamination like water or particulates. Every brand of gasoline has slightly different proprietary ingredients to do this (as you've said at about 6 minutes). Also, the time of year will dictate what vapor pressure the gasoline manufacturers must make the gasoline to deliver to the consumer. Forget octane boosters. A pint of octane booster won't raise the octane rating of a full tank of fuel enough to make a difference. If you have a high performance engine that's been engineered for high compression, you're going to know you need a higher octane rated fuel. You aren't going to hit that 87 button. Are you?🤔 By the way, most mid-grade pumps, mix (in the pump itself) two parts of 87 with one part of 93 to get 89. But if you look at the price per gallon, they usually give you the "mid-price" between 87 and 93 for the 89. You'd be better off cost wise, by pumping 10 gallons of 87 and 5 gallons of 93 if you really want 89. I suppose mixing it well enough in the tank might be problematic for the first few miles. Really, you didn't need the 89 anyways. Octane Rating Tests Explained: One more thing you didn't explain well was how we get the octane rating in the USA. Yes RON stands for Research Octane Number. It refers to an actual test engine and ASTM method D-2699 for testing the octane rating of spark ignition fuels. My lab uses a RON called a Waukesha RON engine. It varies the compression of the cylinder to make the fuel knock while holding other variables at constant values (temperature, fuel/air mix, engine speed, etc). There is another test engine my lab uses, it's called a MON or Motor Octane Number engine and ASTM method D-2700. It too is a Waukesha engine that varies the compression of the cylinder but holds those variables at different values, mostly the engine speed is faster on the MON (900 rpm instead of the RON's 600 rpm), but I believe the inlet temperature of the RON is also kept higher. The RON and MON tests give slightly different results for octane rating due to the differences in these other variables. MON is always lower than the RON, by about 10 octane ratings if I remember correctly. In the USA, when you see the (R + M)/2 on the pump's octane rating label, it's telling you that the gasoline is rated by testing by both the RON and MON methods, and the final number you get is the average of the two test results. I rarely hear this average referred to as "PON", but I know it's not PUMP Octane Number. I had to look that up and if you want to trust Wikipedia it stands for "Posted Octane Number". In Europe, they only test with the RON method, as you've said, so this is why their octane ratings are higher. They don't have the lower MON test averaged into their octane rating. Great information in your video for all consumers. I gave it a thumbs up. 👍
Premium is the best but it cost more I used to haul gas they told us not to drop gas at the premium had more than one in our or 1 inch or less of water and regular could have over 3in and more trash in it you get more trash and water and regular than you do premium cuz we had to go pump the tanks
Ethanol is a renewable fuel source and can be locally produced when gasoline refinement or import is infeasible. For a chemist, you're remarkably short sighted.
Finally somebody that knows how to hold the camera straight. His narration was great the audio was great the video was great the information was great just an overall solid piece to put up on UA-cam. 100% two thumbs up for this guy. Keep them coming. Maybe you can put something up for a V6 Mustang regarding power adders.
Maybe add half tank of gas, then the additive, then the final fill, ALL in one stop. Or, optionally, speed up to 100 MPH and repeatedly jam on your brakes to ensure PROPER additive mixing in the fuel tank. Then, immediately, drive to a service station to replace brakes, tires, and the pants you peed in during the repeated emergency stops.
I have some experience in this, a good education, and have researched a variety of things, which culminate in the following wisdoms: -if you have an old car, with a carburetor or mechanical injection: you will not get better performance with super high octane, but you will see lower performance and knock with lower than needed octane. -in newer cars, like my Chevy S-10 and BMW's: when the car is fed 89 octane or lower, it knocks occasionally and the engine lowers max output parameters, but when it detects no knocking, the engine control system can unleash more horsepower, as long as the emissions and fuel systems are still in agreement regarding fuel burn efficacy and catalyst reduction performance. -if a newer car detects poor performance, even with super high octane fuel, it can and will lower fuel injector pulse width and alter timing to try and stabilize both emissions and system operation. -if the system parameters are stable, estimated octane meets or exceeds a minimum "high performance" value, the car can and will burn vastly more fuel than it would with a tank of mixed octane fuels, with a vastly more responsive throttle, and a cleaner sounding exhaust.
Not sure how this video has 8.8 dislikes. He put more effort into this than most people do to help inform others. Very detailed, informative. Am I missing something...
I know ABSOLUTELY ZERO about cars, my 2006 scion is starting to give me problems and this channel has been extremely helpful! Not a car enthusiast but you got a new sub because your videos are easy to follow.
You say it doesn’t increase power but you can feel the difference in power for yourself. When my 2.5L 4 cylinder Camry is overloaded for long road trip holidays I can barely get moving or up hills unless I use premium. I’ve even pushed my luck and added an octane booster with a full tank of V power premium. Runs much nicer and allows me to hummer it as I normally do. Just filled up with premium for a 2 hour trip this weekend
I wanted to mention that I had an issue with my vehicle about three weeks ago. That’s the only reason why I’m watching this channel so I have a 2019 mini Cooper clubman and on the gas cap it says 91 octane so I’ve been going to my new racetrack across the street from my house. I’ve been getting gas for four years. Come to find out which I never paid attention on the gas pumps. It says 15% ethanol never paid any attention I thought they all said 10% or less so I brought my car into mini service. They said I had 15% ethanol and it ruined. All of my injectors cost me almost $4000 to fix this And if you go on Google, it will say some cars are made for that from 2004 and up but apparently not something with a turbo so I’d be very careful and look at the pumps. Make sure it doesn’t say 15% ethanol. I took photos of multiple pumps in my area. I’ve only found one that said 15% to all the rest of 10% or less Crazy that we don’t pay any attention to that, but I lived and learn cost me quite a bit of money to fix the problem so if you have any cars that says 91 make sure you do not use the 15% ethanol it will definitely ruin your injector
When adding anything to your fuel, always put the additive in first. Then, when you fill the tank, the fuel additive will be dispersed evenly through the fuel. Just a good way to make sure everything is mixed thoroughly. If you do add it after fueling, I would shake the car side to side for 30 secs or so to mix it up well.
Thank you for helping dispel myths. PS - I tried to run 87 in my Jaguar (premium required). After a year, I had to change plugs and coil packs. Switching to 92 fixed the issue.
How can Americans even complain about fuel prices, in Belgium we pay 5,7 USD a gallon at cheapest. It would be dream to buy 1 liter gas for 0,90 euros instead of 1,35.
Yesterday I passed someone on the road. Their 1990's era Ford Mustang sounded as though it's engine was nothing but hard knocks as it drove by me. I was like, "Whoa, dude! Your engine is dead, man! You might want to just get a new engine or something, man.".
You’re wasting money. Your car’s computer adjusted for the slower burning fuel after about half a tank and you’re just causing your engine to run hotter than it should for no reason. Put regular back in it and after a tank or so to make sure all of the premium gas is gone, the car will settle down and run exactly as it does now, but at a slightly cooler temperature.
Sometimes I come back to this video, not to hear about his argument or to know what gas I should use, but to look at the prices on those pumps. Those beautiful, low prices…
Lol I always read the manuals from cover to cove. 3 cars and I always knew tire size, octane required, lifting points, and even extra tricks/buttons on my vehicle.
haha that was the vibe I was going for! That shot took all day to get between moving cars and making sure no one was at the pump and then moving all my cars back home!
@@chrisfix Don't get the wrong idea, I love your videos and you've really inspired me to learn and grown my interest in cars. But was that shot really worth the time it took? I don't really think so considering you've got so many projects going on at the same time now. But it looked very cool tho. Good luck with the del sol and driftstang!

Chrisfix is one of the few remaining large youtubers who seems like a small UA-camr in how he interacts with the community. This dude responded to a comment on an 8 month old video to clarify for someone, top notch man.
Here in germany some gasstations like "Aral" even offer 102 gasoline. It's called Aral ultimate 102, but not a single car on this planet can work with such a high number of octane. It's more about the additives it contains.
It reminds me about a Honda Civic I bought and the motor was shacking and they’ve never been able to fix it. They told me that they never fixed motors, they were changing them instead because they rarely had problems with motors. In the end, I tried Gold instead of Regular and the motor was almost not shaking. When I changed it 2 1/2 years later, I gave it with a fill tank. 2-3 weeks later the guy who bought it called me and asked if it was normally shaking 😅 he filled it up with Regular at his first visit to the gaz station. I told him I always used Gold… It was in the 90s and one of their mechanics once told me that even Honda had lemons and they didn’t know how to fix them :-). True story… it was a 93 I think
I just want to point out one thing with the “premium recommended” point you made, before you go pumping regular, double check in the owner’s manual that there isn’t a minimum either, my gf used to have a Mini Cooper S that said “premium recommended” but also said the minimum it could run was 89 octane, so please double check and make sure there isn’t any minimum either
Ehh the mini should be run on at least 91 my dad's owned 3 and 2 Cooper S's my grandmother currently still has hers the mini engine from 2000-06 ish have really finicky motors never had anything but problems when running lower octane on my dad's old minis
Elliott Grossman I feel like my gf just had some really bad luck with hers, if I remember right I think within like a month of owning it, she had to go take it to the shop because of something with the camshaft of the engine and the belts, and then in the end she sold it because of a failed fuel pump (which I’m sure was her fault because she never listened to me when I told her to never let her car run dangerously low on gas and she had a really bad habit of doing so) and she didn’t feel like dishing out more money into it (at that point they’d spent around $6000 in repairs, all while having bought the car for $9k)
@@JohnnyDouchbag-nr5yfwhere in the middle of nowhere are you? Im in northern Chicago and that shit JUST came below $3.50 on the regular for the first time in way too many years.
I started using Shell 93 when my 2018 1.5t Equinox hit 50k miles. Now I’m at 91k & it HAS made a small difference in mileage & a noticeable increase in power.
Just cause it days in the manual doesn't mean its true. 2007 thru 2010 have coilpack issues and spark plugs that fail prematurely when ran on 87 octane. I had 3 denso coilpacks fail at 90k. I replaced the coilpacks and put new ngk spark plugs at 90k. At 112k i had 2 more coilpacks fail and 1 spark plug fail. The honda dealership recommended that i run premium and run lucas fuel treatment. Ive been running premium for over a year now. The car runs 10x better, no lagging, also it gets 5 to 7 mpg better. Lastly some gas stations have shitty gas like bp and certified. Smh
@@honda-s2k how about other mazdas that have double your mileage and never had any of those failures by using 87? there isn't a coil issue, spark plugs last longer than the recommended 75k miles interval... i'm also skeptical about any better fuel mileage. it's not like premium gas has extra energy (i may have extra detergents but no real 'energy bust')
I previously owned a Mercedes 420 SEL 1989 automatic and I only used 98. I was told by my Merc mechanic to use 98 and also it was the recommendation of Mercedes. I have heard the arguments that I'm wasting money on 98 but frankly I don't believe it. I believe the performance and economy is improved by the higher octane. I now own a V8 Jaguar and continue to run 98 Octane. I will not use the Ethanol fuels and Mercedes have also said not to use that. I have also owned an XB V8 302 automatic wagon. When I lived in the ACT in the mid 1990s I occasionally put Aviation Fuel in it. It went like a scalded cat and the exhaust pipe was lovely and white. The fuel economy and the power improved on the XB. I remain convinced that a higher octane improves power, fuel economy and clean engines. On a recent long distance run in the Jaguar I obtained 35 MPG.
I've watched a lot of UA-cam videos on all kinds of subjects, and I actually do some of my own within the fitness and movement field and they are not easy to produce. The quality of this production with the animations and everything you did I know for a fact took an amazing amount of time and effort. I don't even do anything with cars and was just curious about what fuel or additives to use and saw this come up. I subscribe to your channel purely because of the time and dedication you put into this one video
Welcome aboard and thanks a lot! I always spend extra time to make sure every video I do is as good as it gets, and for this video, I wanted to get people as educated as possible!
Watching this in 2024 and I've had -different people tell me different things, but this makes the most sense of all. No one EVER told me to look for what type of fuel I should use on my gas cap or my manual. I'm a 63 year old woman and obviously clueless. lol. I do have a question, though, @ChrisFix... and hope you'll see this and answer. I've been using the mid-grade Plus fuel type. If I should've been using Regular all along, does this mean I've been causing damage to my engine? You mentioned using regular when you should use premium may cause damage, but didn't mention the opposite... for someone clueless like me, I'd love to know the answer. Appreciate the video... if enough people watch it, could be a great time to buy stock in Shell. I'll be going there or perhaps to Speedway from now on, as someone mentioned it's also great gas with additives... is that true too, @ChrisFix? Appreciate the info... I've subscribed now and plan to watch more of your videos. :-)
Using mid grade in a car that requires regular won't hurt anything, but it is extra money for almost 0 or 0 gain so you are better off switching to regular. And as long as the fuel contains the necessary additives (or more like in this case) you will be good to go!
Every engine I've broken down using premium fuels is always spotless inside, even the piston head looks good. I've noticed switching from ethanol to non-ethanol my engines run smoother leading to excessive speed. With premium ethanol gas I got 1/2 mile extra per gallon, with non-ethanol I got 1/2 mile per gallon extra over premium ethanol. For me it's worth it for performance.
Well my s10 has 295k miles and has never had premium gas on it and it runs like a clock I had to replace injectors at 275k because one went bad and I decided to replace them all at once
@@johnlourenco5657 Not saying regular is a bad gas, government regs, just saying I like the extra smoothness. When I was a cert mechanic in the 80's and 90's, I ran AV gas at 110 octane most of the time, you could balance a nickle on the air cleaner it was so smooth. You could run Quaker State oil and it may gum up some but the insides would be sparkling in a breakdown other than the valve train area in the head/s. Last breakdown was a couple years ago using premium ethanol and it was still clean inside, just how I like it. But I don't abuse my stuff anymore and don't currently have a race car but parts for one.... or 2
Good thing computer controlled cars have knock sensors that pretty much eliminated the pre ignition. But if you buy a car that in the owners manual says mid grade 89, or Premium 91 and higher, don't complain if you have to pay extra for every gallon. You can definitely run the 87 in it and will work just fine until you want to get on it, That is where the higher octane comes in to play... I just run MARVEL Mystery Oil in the gas to lubricate upper cylinders, valves, and piston tops. Especially is good stuff for fuel injectors ! A quality "PEA" included fuel cleaner or" Techron" once or twice a year, really helps cleaning up everything in there too if you really think you need it.. If you drive alot and are constantly filling up your tank and just rotating fuel thru it, and do a good Italian Tune-Up out on the highway every once in awhile, most (regular) cars are just fine on 87. Hi- Performance cars are called that for a reason and buy at your own expense. It's cars that sit with this crappy 10% ethanol diluted fuel that causes problems! Government regulations require cleaners and beneficial products in all grades of gasoline. If I was as rich as the Bidens I'd have AV fuel delivered to my giant underground plastic storage tank, and run that in my lawnmowers too. Unfortunately for me I'm not! Interesting Videos Christopher Fixastopher!!! Chuckle Chuckle 😃. Thanx ; Jethro
Thanks you cleared up an issue for me. I have a 2018 Volvo XC90 and it’s recommended that I use a fuel that’s 95 RON for normal driving and 98 RON for optimal performance. An octane rating lower than RON 95 should not be used. I use 93 octane here in America so I now know that I’m using the right octane for my vehicle.

@@JSK1011 yes there is a difference. Some fuel stations offer better diesel quality and I tested it myself. There are 5-6gas stations in my city and I always fill my car at one specific gas station because they offer a fantastic fuel. When I fill a full tank (volkswagen mk4 1.9 tdi) I can make 1,200kms and when I do that at other gas stations I can only do a little bit over 900 so there is a difference in dieseles in different stations.
@@destroyerarmor ditch ? It's my favorite car, and believe or not I am getting VW MK5 two door this month. Not sure where you are coming from, but Volkswagen and German cars are the only cars that our people drive.
This is great information, and Chris touched on additives a little bit, but I feel like he left an important part out. Yes, you do go with the gasoline octane level that your car manufacturer recommends, but some gas stations have additives added to all three levels of gasoline, and some don't. The ones that do are called 'Top tier'. I only get gas from Top tier gas stations. In the video, he's at a Shell gas station, which is a Top tier gas station, so even if you get regular gas from them, it has the additives that will keep your valves clean. You can do a search online to find out what gas stations are Top tier.
@@StijnNLDutch yea, all gas stations have essentially the same fuel. it all comes from the same place. It is all regulated... ask yourself, have you ever heard someone say "oh god I had Shell fuel, shell fuel would have made my engine explode! @@jd5985 You know the funny thing is that I am originally from Europe and one thing I always boasted about was or 99/98/97 Octane level. In my mind it also kinda justified the really high cost of a litre of gas, over the more desirable and economical diesel, but after finding out about the back end reason of standards and measures, I am just really pissed of at the overpriced gas in Europe!
For those of you who want a bit more clarification about the different fuel octane ratings: PON (Pump Octane Number) = RdON (Road Octane Number) = AKI (Anti-Knock Index) = (R+M)/2 These are all the exact same octane rating you might see in the US (AKI and (R+M)/2 being the most common) which is the calculated average between RON (Research Octane Number) (used in Europe) (Performance at low speed & low temp) and MON (Motor Octane Number) (Performance at high speed & high temp). AKA (R+M)/2 (add the numbers up and divide by 2).
As a KIA mechanic around early 2000, there were many pinging issues here in the south. Fuel door claimed “87” but they needed 89 octane to prevent knocking… at least that was how well they built them for the US then.
My experience on this is that I had a vehicle throw a P0420 code, turned out to be the Catalytic Converter. After exclusively burning premium for over a year, I never saw that code again. That made me a believer in a cleaner fuels ability to degunk a system, and help prevent buildup in the first place. Now if we could just get rid of ethanol entirely.
@@u-know-this The whole industry is volatile. I built a hot rod to run on e85 in California, high compression advanced Ignition et cetera it cost twice as much for the fuel system and now it's hard to access ugh
for me my car throw that code because I used premium gas in it for 3 years . cleaning the catalytic and the mechanic told me to never full your Accord with premium . Now after I full it with regular Really I feel the car has more power and no more of p0420 ! so all what he said in this video a bout full what the car manual said is True > All Hondas 4 Cylinder must be fulled with Regular Gas
@@dwdhb9905 Yeah it depends on the car, I found that out too late my car requires premium and I've been using regular for half a year. At first I thought premium was just recommended and not required.
Actually you can look up gas price history for California and they were on par with the rest of country until about 20 years ago. Californication of the US is coming to the rest of the US. Buckle up
From a mechanic standpoint if you have a vehicle that should get premium. (Mercedes or luxury car to a sports car / muscle car / exotic car use premium. My brother had a 94 mustang with the 3.8L V6 and he was using regular and it was running horribly we started using premium and it helped a lot. It actually saved him from having his fuel pump go sooner. It lasted 6 months before it went and when the shop pulled the pump they tested it for us and stated that the use of premium saved his fuel pump from pre-mature failure. We ran premium from that day forward and never had to replace the fuel pump ever again. Note proper vehicle maintenance was done during both scenarios
Shell 93 is the worst 93 I've ever gotten. Tried 2 different stations same result tons of knock and timing being pulled. Sunoco was better but not great. Mobil is the only 93 I could run on my tune without pulling timing. Handheld tuners with real time data logging pay for themselves.

In Hungary, we have one of the highest gas prices in the eastern block. We pay 610 forints for one liter of E10 gas, and since 1 gallon is roughly 4 liters (3,79 liters to be exact), it costs us 2312 forints which is 6,5 dollars.

@A $4-$5 Los Angeles
It’s crazy how 4 years ago gas was in $2 range.
Octane Rating Tests Explained:
One more thing you didn't explain well was how we get the octane rating in the USA.
How could a person consume toluene? Is it contained in alcohol?
Premium is the best but it cost more I used to haul gas they told us not to drop gas at the premium had more than one in our or 1 inch or less of water and regular could have over 3in and more trash in it you get more trash and water and regular than you do premium cuz we had to go pump the tanks
I read your article 😉... thank you for the info. Can you please tell me in plain English which is the best fuel for my car?
Ethanol is a renewable fuel source and can be locally produced when gasoline refinement or import is infeasible.

I have some experience in this, a good education, and have researched a variety of things, which culminate in the following wisdoms:
-if you have an old car, with a carburetor or mechanical injection: you will not get better performance with super high octane, but you will see lower performance and knock with lower than needed octane.

I started using Shell 93 when my 2018 1.5t Equinox hit 50k miles. Now I’m at 91k & it HAS made a small difference in mileage & a noticeable increase in power.
The answer is simple:
Use the grade of gasoline recommended in your vehicle's manual.
@em745a That's a Mazda owner's secret man. Not like anyone is gonna believe you even though it's true.
Usually it will say it on your gas lid. If anyone cared.... They should read it haha. Put people don't even know how to check oil levels 😅😅
@em745a I wonder how that's gonna be with the skyactive x engine that wants to run like a diesel... might Require lower octane to run right

Glad to see The Stig staying active in between seasons of Top Gear.
Mike372644 I’ve watched top gear before especially the British version cause I miss it
Watching this in 2024 and I've had -different people tell me different things, but this makes the most sense of all.
Question: What is the best fuel to use in your car?
Answer: The one your car manufacturer recommends.
Subarus are known to “run” on 87 but get better mileage on 93
@@ImaYam I've tested that with my 2020 Impreza. Not really true in my experience.
@@calebshaffer2283 was your test scientific in anyway? My 2018 crosstrek with the same engine as you gets 440 miles to the tank with 93 and 360 on 87.

I also notice premium gas lasts longer in my car and makes it alil more powerful

For those of you who want a bit more clarification about the different fuel octane ratings: PON (Pump Octane Number) = RdON (Road Octane Number) = AKI (Anti-Knock Index) = (R+M)/2
These are all the exact same octane rating you might see in the US (AKI and (R+M)/2 being the most common) which is the calculated average between RON (Research Octane Number) (used in Europe) (Performance at low speed & low temp) and MON (Motor Octane Number) (Performance at high speed & high temp). AKA (R+M)/2 (add the numbers up and divide by 2).
