How To Permanently Disable The Stop/Start Feature On a Jeep Grand Cherokee (2021 Tutorial)

If you're like me you're tired of the annoying Start/Stop or Stop/Start auto shut off at red lights feature on the Jeep Grand Cherokee and similar vehicles. There's actually a super simple fix to permanently disable the stop/start feature on these vehicles and that's what I teach you how to do in this video. It's a super simple tutorial where you basically pop open the battery cover and unplug one sensor and you're good to go. Please note that you will receive a dash notification as well as a dash light while the sensor is unplugged!
The new camera is also in... finally! Hopefully the quality is much better on the new a6400 vs my previous Canon T5i setup. I'm still playing with it and getting used to it so give me some time to learn.

You can blame Obama's policy on urging manufacturers to strive to obtain 54 mpg fuel economy. In my assessment, it's actually worse than Obama Care if That was possible. Now we have Biden looking to totally disable the fuel industry.

I just test-drove the Grand Cherokee last week and the dealer has got the vehicle on hold for me. If I end up purchasing it, this might be the first thing I would do although I hate having this warning light on. Thanks for the tip!

the main reason to get rid of it is the extreme wear it does to the engine bearings. It also doesn't save you any fuel as it takes more fuel to restart it then to just let it idle for a min. If you live in the city were your sitting at multiple lights for several min at a time. it might save you a few dollars over the short life of vehicle. thats the battery temp sensor. if the battery is too warm or too cold the auto engine destruct wont work.

Lifesaver. I hate the start stop. Plus the battery is different so it’s about 650 for the dealership to replace it. Took about an hour to replace them myself and 3 different wrench bits.

Yes this feature is super annoying! But it really all depends on how much pressure you apply on the brake. If you want to avoid having the car engine stopping at every red light just try not to apply full pressure on the brake. The further and more pressure you apply the car will shut off, the less pressure left at a stop the car will remain on.

I personally hate having the dash light on. I will be keeping my Stop/Start feature because of that. I'll just have to make a mental note to turn it off every time I go for a drive. Nice video BJP!
Good idea. Absolute nonsense that it doesn't come from the factory with it disabled.
Others have advised placing a small patch of black tape over the dash light so that it will not annoy you.

When activated, this feature makes the ride feel jerky. First thing I found was that switch but I will go out and get it disabled.
This "crazy grandma" according to my salesman, unhooked it although in the Cherokee 4X4 Trailhawk, the battery is up front with the engine. Used pliers to grab a better hold on the attachment. What a relief, now to master the radio and climate controls.

most annoying feature in the history of auto making !Thanks for the tip, on my 2018 Grand Cher we no longer have to turn it off, i think maybe since we turned it off every time we drive it it learned that behavior and just stays off ? will def do that disconnect if it reappears !

Yes that is so stupid and gets on my last nerve, I just bought the 2020 jeep Cherokee latitude plus , and I hate it because of the one little button , I always have to turn it off every time I get in and it's still feels like it wants to stall out when I take off, if I would have know about that when I bought the car 2 weeks ago I would have not bought it !! I just watched another video about turning the auto stop/start off, and the guy says you need to use this special adapter that costs $100, and have to tear open a cover under your glove box to get a the wires etc.. this way is a hell of a lot better option, as long as it doesn't lead to more engine lights or something further down the road..

I just used Alfa OBD, disabled "Stop&Start Enable Switch" and no more having to press button, and no light on dash.

That’s good intill you over heat the battery because you unplug the temperature sensor which will cause it to go bad or explode.
I bought a 2022 wk. It didn't have a tow package so I installed a hitch and a wiring harness. The turn signals, brake lights, and hazards work on my trailer but I have no running lights when I turn my headlights on. Do you have a solution for this?
I highly recommend anyone with a Jeep and most Chrysler vehicles to get the OBD JScan app and Bluetooth compatible obd reader. You can go into your Jeep or car’s factory settings and can change any factory settings. Like if doesn’t come from factory with led headlights or any lights with the app you can go into the settings and change settings so all led bulbs will work 100% perfect without and hyper blinking turn signals and you can activate some factory options that you don’t have and etc and will never throw any codes and it is not detectable at all when get vehicle inspected. You do have to pay a one time fee for life but that fee only covers the first vehicles vin you plug it into but for a smaller fee you can buy the ability to add more vehicles by vin#. Been using 3 years now with not a single issue or complaint. And one of my favorite options to be able to change is you can make it where when you turn your high beams on all your front lights will stay on. So you’ll have high beams,headlights and fog lights all on at same time.

I was wondering what that light was on the dash. I dont recall turning off the feature and I know I didnt touch the battery under the seat. Is that why my light eventually comes on every day after a long ride?

Hmmm, alright! So they are disconnecting that at the battery! Mine and my wife's is a 2015 model so we don't have the battery inside the vehical! As soon as I seen a person from another video going to the hood to disconnect the battery, I'm like "No f@*king way" I just finished rebuilding a 2000 wrangler to todays specs just to display for others how crockid the industry is and to show people they had the same technology years ago and for sure all of what is today at that time, because when I updated the electronics, they where ordered from the same companies I was searching for when I was around 19 years of age or so! Now I'm 41, also life just threw the challange within my direction and I was saying to myself "I'm to old for this, I thought of this build to help others as a kid!!!!" Weird life! Awesome video to help others by the way! I wouldn't get confused with my build and that battery location! Safety first

This feature also wears the starter and the cost of replacing is very high.
Or when you forget to disable auto start and your hand is resting on the shift selector and approaching a Stop move the gear selector from D to M and Auto stop is temporarily disabled for that stop event. While in the stop event flick it back to D at anytime and the engine will keep running. There is an OBD2 Auto Start dongle for Jeeps that plugs in and is a better option than breaking parts of your dash board.

soo i forgot the lights on my 2020 Jeep grand Cherokee on all night so the battery died and I jumped the battery and the car worked on and now it tells me the same thing that auto stop disabled and I have to go to the dealer but if that doesn’t affect anything except the auto stop that would be great because I hate this feature so much on my jeep’s
Hmm i'm not 100% sure on that situation. I know in the disabling situation you know the cause of the warning light.
what muffler did you put on there
Performance exhaust on a V6? what kind and do you really notice any performance difference?
Just a basic cat-back mainly for a bit more sound. I don't think you'll get much performance out of an exhaust or intake on a v6 unless it's tuned

There should be a setting in your uconnect for it… something like easy in / out
Like seriously, how hard would it be for them to put in an option to save your settings from the last time you drove the car. It does this for the “Eco Off” option, but not stop/start. Instead you have to disable it EVERY TIME you start the vehicle
