Very clear and precise information. I did not know any of this could affect the car stop/start operation. Thank you for explaining it to us more clearly 👍👍👍
Got a week old new car and was wondering why the stop/start wasn’t working… checked the battery and it’s at medium/low on the battery tester so that’s why the stop/start isn’t working. Thanks for this info. Saved me having to hit the garage.
@@MTMMotorServices you was 100% right… now the battery has charged enough my stop/start is working again… Now I want it to stop working lol. I can turn it off but only for 4 minutes at a time. 🙄
Excellent Information. I had iss8and I checked my main and auxiliary batteries. Aux was fine but main was done. Soon as I renewed stop/ start eco worked again. My car is a 6 year old Mercedes E250 cdi. Still a great motor and efficient too.
I'd deduced a lot of this a week into owning my first car with Stop-Start but also noticed that it tends to manifest as the car deciding it will or won't work at the start of a journey and then nothing I do on that journey will change it! I do noticed the failure tends to be on the outward journey after sitting for a a day or so so I guess it's almost always down to the battery charge (I was doing things like turning off the AC and even the heat/fan down). I've decided to stop worrying about it now :)
Thanks for informative video! 👍 Our car stalled halfway, we didn't know what to do. So I watched this, turned all the heat, seat heating off, and it started, so we made it home.🙂
Thanks this has solved my issue with start stop not working. I didn't have time to put my car in the garage for diagnostic so this video has been a blessing thanks again 👍
Very useful thanks. Can someone tell me what health percentage does the battery need to reduce to before a new car battery is recommended? Because under %80 to me sounds like battery is still in relatively good health ?
We have a 2019 Citroen c5 AIRCROSS 1.5 diesel automatic and in 2 years of ownership and good maintenance it has only worked twice possibly because we always have the radio on and run the heater or air con system.
To completely resolve this issue..... Turn that function off and never use it again. One of the hardest things your car will ever have to do is start. It requires all of the battery power, repeated use of the starter motor and also provides you with a lovely lag when trying to go forward. If you think about it on any given day for running errands you might start your car four to six times. When using the stop start function you're looking at 20 to 60 starts. The brushes in the starter motor will wear out prematurely, your battery is at constant strain. Save yourself the headache and disable that function.
Very informative and thanks for sharing your experience, My Renault capture doesn’t start at all it’s euro 6 1.5 K9k682 , I have manage to start with grounding pin 3 on UCH TEMPORARILY, any thoughts much appreciated, I don’t mind paying for tech support as I’m limited to French manufacturers .
This was so helpful. My fiat 500 randomly shut off the stop/start and it worried me! especially since i had just serviced and MOT'd my car that month. Turns out i just needed some coolant and the aircon had shut it off as said. Thanks mate
Glad this helped! Although if your coolant has dropped since having a service that may need looking into. Coolant level should have been checked and topped up during service
I couldn't start my brand new Toyota 2020 , 2 × week or 2 after stop start not available ,they 2× changed battery and did software update. Buttery drainage ,now I have same problem. Thank you for explanation.

September 2024. I bought a brand new Hyundai i30 mild hybrid, 48v battery, 1.5 7dct. Had zero issues until now :( Car from new to now very, very low mileage 6000 miles. Took it to Hyundai for its first year service. Came back all good. Their report said both batteries have stong charge. However, now just 1 month since the service. The stop start 'A' LIGHT is coming on dashboard and cutting out the engine braking and gets to 15 mph when the car is STILL MOVING?! It still works as it should when stopped at lights etc but now also comes on at slow speeds of say 15 mph when turning into a side road etc????
Really clear, informative, useful and helpful video. Thanks for sharing. The owner’s manual for my Kia lacks any sort of troubleshooting information. The video helped immensely.
Really useful video, thanks so much. My new car's reversing sensors aren't working at all. A future video on this topic would be so helpful. My car's a 2016 Citroen DS3 1 6 Diesel. Thanks again. 👍
are your reverse lights working? most aftermarket reverse sensors are linked to the live for the reverse lights, so this is something to check. otherwise if they came as factory standard then they could have their own separate live. if you have your owners manual, you could locate the fuse and check that hasn't blown. there are a few other things that can be checked too, so ill keep this topic under consideration for a future video. Thanks for bringing it up.
I have a BMW 530 d 2017 with start stop which works, my wife has a 320 d 2018 and it will not work. thanks for the info on the battery I think it needs a good charge.
I have a Fiat Qubo 2011 with stop start function and ive been told it can have either stop start battery or normal battery.Chances are i wont use this function as with city driving i dont want egr valve and DPF getting clogged up with frequent stop starts. The advantage of the gel battery is that its better quality and holds more charge.
Great video and information, I haven’t been driving my car BMW 218i Grand Tourer during lockdown/cold season probably once a week for few miles and now my start/stop won’t work at all, I was wondering how do I get my battery charge up above 80% ? Is it just by driving longer or I need to take it to the dealer ? Thanks and subscribed.
You can take it for aong drive in order to charge up the battery. But the best way I have found is to put it on trickle charge with an at home charger and leave it overnight.
Thanks for the tips! Is there anything related to disconnecting the battery for a short time? I had to move the battery to replace a headlight bulb and it stopped working after that.
Mine actually said auto stop start not available Due to vehicle charging. The Wal-Mart automotive services suggested that I unplug all the USB ports Drive around a little bit and come to a complete stop and it should work And sure enough they will right. It worked again. Most of all, do not use accessory mode at all when parked.
I have driven two rebadged Opel diesel Insignias with this system. It stopped working in both cars at around 65000 miles. The second car has had a new battery and over 130,000 miles and it still doesn't work. Also when it worked it would not operate after about 3 or 4 cycles in traffic whether in town or on the motorway in a traffic jam. The particulate filters in both cars were in full operation. The second car also has Adblue fitted to reduce NOX emissions. Frankly the stop start system was just a gimmick.
Second hand B class it never worked and no warning messages, wasn’t that bothered and drove it for two years, main battery failed, fitted a new one and it started working.
I have a problem with a 2013 astra diesel. With the eco mode on it will randomly kill the engine then won't start. It cranks but it choke as iff it's not getting fuel or air. When it starts the clutch often wont disengage when in gear for about a minute. With eco mode turned off it doesn't happen.
I have a 2011 Nissan Qashqai, The (A) symbol shows as its working, but even after long drives, my car never actually stops at any point ever. Could this be a battery issue? would i need to replace it?
I'd be quite happy if the stop/start stopped working on my three year old Dacia. It'll save me having to remember to disable it every time I start the car. Cheers!
Use a cheap smart charger and charge the batteries over night. My Volvo gives a low battery message and start stop doesn’t work( it tells me in the settings that it’s unavailable because the battery is charging) doesn’t get driven long enough distant to charge it so The battery charger will do it and charge the support battery as well.
HELP ANYONE My mechanic charged me £160 for a new bmw battery as my start stop didn’t work. But when I picked it up it still didn’t work, he said that’s because it may take a few days before working after fitting the new battery? Is this possible? I mean why shouldn’t it work immediately after changing the battery? Did I just get ripped off for the wrong battery?
First point is already a miss. most cars power their aircon by the movement of the engine (belt) and not through electricity. so the air con will not draw current it will just not work, and therefore s&s may not kick in.

Ok, I have a 2017 ford escape titanium 1.5L FWD. I just did a transmission swap.( old one died, had hard shifting problems and then after driving for over an hour it just wouldn’t go into gear and got stuck in a high gear and just burnt up trying to get it to a parking lot) the transmission swap went really well but now I have this one issue. The auto start stop will do a hard shift when cutting back on, this sometimes doesn’t happen if the auto start was active longer than 30secs to a minute, ( it’ll work as normal) but if it was activated at like a short stop ( ie a stop sign) it’ll do hard hard shift then drive normally… the adaptive values and KAM was reset to my knowledge with the new transmission. Any thoughts on what the issue is?
Hi my Kia Sportage g T line mild hybrid 1.6 stop start isn’t working ? I travel everyday to work about 27 miles .Since having the car it hasn’t worked I bought it from Kia it’s going to the Kia garage they are going to test the battery the light comes on but it’s orange not green ? On short trips of 5-7km the battery does not charge more than 70%, that's if I still light up the position and "force the charge" After 50% the battery no longer charges with 14.8 decreases to 12.8 and with the positions on it charges by 13. 8. Disabling the start stop doesn't help much. Do you have any idea of a "trick" to trick load management into sitting in 14.8V?
I have zero problems with the start-stop on my 2024 Honda Accord EX. I never use it. I hit the off button as soon as I turn the engine on. And it stays off the entire trip.

I have a 2014 Ford C-max on gasoline. I replaced the original battery 6 months ago with a Varta one and the start / stop system no longer works. Is it possible that the mechanic put a battery in the wrong start / stop system?

My battery was bad so I changed the battery to a completely new one but it hasn’t reset on my car and the start/stop still says unavailable I have a jeep compass is there another reason for that
You might have to check if you have to tell the car it has had a new battery via diagnostic machine. Otherwise, 24 hours after the replacement the sensors should detect the change in battery quality
Im using Q5 2017, started DPF fault, then start stop fault, then come up drive system fault, i hope these all related DPF problem, could you answer me please
My problem is my stop start just doesnt do it. Ive had a look with a bi directional scanner and you can activate it via the scanner, but it was programmed after a new battery and now just doesnt do it. So... Battery not suitable? Or some programmed value out of range?
I think start/stop is bs. My 2012 Volvo S60 1.6 hardly ever goes into ‘DrivE’ mode, despite being switched on all of the time. Initially starting an engine always uses more fuel, so the end goal of saving fuel, is nonsense. It’s like a power station or kiln, they’re hardly ever stopped because it’s more cost effective to keep them running. Ironically, I’ve noticed that my car is more likely to go into DrivE mode when the fuel tank is above half full. I’m confused
Hi there I own a seat Leon 2016 tdi sometime when I drive the car after warming a bit and I turn the fan when is raining then the start :stop system is not functional please if you find time can you tell me what I do wrong
My seat Toledo 2016. The gear shift sign on dash doesn’t work when lower gear when drive faster it work shows. If you slow down show that put it in lower gear… thanks
As a lady driver it was a concern to me .It happened after the lockdown. The flash light went off after disconnecting the battery. Now I'll charge the battery n see how the result is.hope it works . Thanks
We all do. It's not an useful feature in my opinion. Although there isn't a way to disable it due to European Emission laws, you can turn it off for each journey, only if your particular car has a button to deactivate it on your dash. But it will automatically re activate each time you start the vehicle.
@@MTMMotorServices My vehicle has no button to temporarily bypass it. It figures too. Dang it! I'm gonna call N.A.S.A. maybe they can deactivate it. LOL👍
A total gimmick we could all do without. Pull up to a red light, into neutral. Engine stops. Within a millisecond light turns green. Engine has to start again. How much fuel did that save?! FFS.

This is a great video. It’s a covert way of telling drivers how to permanently disable that crap.
I can't believe people would actually complain if that system disabled itself permanently
For me it saves me around 50 to 70 miles in fuel economy so yea the complaint isn't just about annoyance!
Thats beside the point. If you're paying for a function on a car, whether you use it or not, it should still be working

Can you help my 2019 Mercedes GLE 400 twinTurbo my stops that have not worked in the four months that I’ve owned vehicle batteries a good green light on to indicate that it’s working but it does not stop start the vehicle any ideas thank
Thank you for teaching us sir
Does anyone know if it can cause problems changing gear when it’s not working properly?
thank you for the great advice...
I always wondered why my Start stop never went on. Apparently its the A/C and my auto temp is set too low
Great video and good explanation.
Helpful information thanks

"Better For the Environment" really means slightly less destructive to the Environment..
As a lady driver it was a concern to me .It happened after the lockdown. The flash light went off after disconnecting the battery. Now I'll charge the battery n see how the result is.hope it works .
Thanks
Shanti Devi did it star working again after?
If it’s not working consider yourself lucky. I hate that ignorant crap.
I wish I could permanently disable the engine stop/start on my vehicle.👍
FFS.
