On a Ford f150 you can have this feature completely removed at the factory when you order one... greatest option I ever got rid of. The feature is useless and really serves no purpose
Here is what I found with my F150. I noticed about 50% of the time the auto/stop wouldn't engage. Turns out if you put a little stress on the engine (IE run the air conditioner about 1/2 to full blast) this is just enough to keep it from engaging. Now living in the Deep South, you run your AC about 3/4 of the year. But that other 1/4 yeah, you got to manually disengage the system.
You made my day. Thanks for making it so clear and easy to understand and follow instructions. It's such a useless idea to start and stop your car 1000 times a day. Simply useless. Thanks for taking the time to record and explain it.
The MAJOR problem with auto-idle (which isn't mentioned here) is the fact that starting your engine is the single most damaging activity to your engine. Why would you save a little in gas to greatly decrease the longevity of your engine? Does not make sense.
I'm not sure how much damage is actually being done by starting and stopping the engine. What you say was more true of older cars. According to the manufacturer, the starter and flywheel and any other engine parts that would normally be affected have been modified and they suggest it shouldn't be a worry. However, there is definitely a few things that don't make sense here. I question the methods used to determine how much fuel this system supposedly saves. I think the manufacturers have done some mathematical gymnastics to make it look like the cars have a greater MPG than what is achievable in the real world.
@@VantasticPacifica today i pressed the start stop button of my renault clio intensely. car wouldn't start, radio blocked everything. battery is just fine, had been measured. they got it working again by recharging the battery. what could this be? fact that I pressed the start button too quickly, that software got confused?

As a senior citizen I have a psychological twitch to my vehicle motor virtually stalling at a busy intersection with a long red traffic light. The anxiety must come from an archaic memory of when I was young and poor a stalled car meant calling a tow truck while surrounded by angry drivers. So I've been pushing the stop/start button every time I get into my 2018 Pacifica LX which is in itself annoying. Today I just followed your simple fix, which I suspect can be reversed just by putting the plug back in if/when I want to sell the vehicle without that tell-tale warning light on the dashboard. If UA-cam would allow me to push the thumbs up button a thousand times in gratitude for your video, I would do so! BTW I asked my Chrysler dealer how much to turn off the start/stop system and they said at least $200!!
Thank you for that amazing comment. I totally empathize with your psychological twitch. Lol! And you are correct to assume that plugging it back in should eliminate the tell-tale warning light on the dashboard, at least it did for me. As far as your Chrysler dealer charging $200, that's a first I've heard. Usually, they just refuse to do it. I wonder if something's changed.
Thanks so much! I loved it when you said that seeing that dashboard warning light illuminated - brings you joy! We must have been cut from the same cloth. 😊
Excellent video ! I have a Ford Fusion 2020 and has basically the same setup. What was more annoying than having to hit that button every time you start the car was FORGETTING to hit that button every time I start the car.!!
Same goes for the Automatic headlight control. Must be used every time you start the car!.These government control freaks are the reason cars in recent years are getting worse and worse from the driver's point of view.
Right. And the reminder was when your vehicle stalled at an intersection because you forgot to hit that button at the start. Personally, the batteries in my 2018 were both dying from old age so I replaced them. Now the alert light comes on and stays on permanently and I get a message that the Stop/Start mechanism is broken so will not work. So I no longer have to hit any buttons (except start engine). Don't know why - maybe a mechanic did me a favor by disconnecting the system so it never kicks in by surprise.
@@dtvjho for me the annoying thing I found out in my new truck besides that stupid auto start crap was the auto high beams that in some situations causes you to flash oncoming traffic or the guy in front of you. I was driving down a dark road next thing I know my high beams turned on all by themselves I was like WTF.
The first government-ordered nag was the seat belt alarm. After that, it was too easy to add more. By 2019, my GMC has the seatbelt ping, another seatbelt ping for the passenger, auto stop with no A button, and the look in rear seat ping, all with no ability to disable. The transmission has like 9 gears in their attempt to match what Nissan uses (continuously variable gear), so going from 0 to 40 gets like 6 shifts. Worse, just starting up from a stop is high rev shift high rev shift ... 4 shifts to 25 just to get through the intersection... Less cylinders, more gears, auto stop trying to improve MPGs to satisfy insatiable government bent on destroying gas cars. You get the picture. Crummy driver experience all around.
You are correct. This feature is just dangerous. When your car auto-stops at an intersection, and then you go to accelerate into oncoming traffic and it doesn't fire up right away, your timing can be thrown off, lurching you forward at the wrong moment, causing an accident. I despise government overreach and stupidity.
Found it on my 2017 Ford Ranger truck. Plug was identical and easy to do. The only difference was the light displayed on the panel was the check engine light instead of the auto-start amber light. The annual inspection in Texas will not pass with a check engine light, however I will only need to plug it back in when the inspection is due. Good job my friend!
If its not too late to do so, try reading the code(s) related to that engine light. It might just say stop/start system disabled (or such) which might get you by Texas EPA inspection.
The engineers that came up with this useless feature should be fired immediately. It serves no purpose and does absolutely nothing except to add more wear and tear on your engine and starter. So happy Ford allows it to be removed on my '22 F150!! I never have to worry about this again!
The system is not useless. It does at least one important thing very well... It allows the auto manufacturers to inflate fuel mileage numbers so they can sell more cars. The engineers that came up with this feature probably got raises.
Yea they are a false economy. Also the AGM batteries you need for start/stop are also about 2x the price of a normal one and don't last as long. In many cars (like BMWs) they need "programming" in as well when you swap it. You can't simply do it yourself, it's a dealer job with costs attached.
@@BlatentlyFakeName for BMW, you can use "Beamercode" to disable the start/stop feature. I'm pretty sure most cars can be programed, if you have proper software.
Ours broke all by itself so I didn't have to do this technique but this is an awesome information to have. The one thing that maybe others don't realize is that this system causes your car to start over and over again which seems obvious but the cost of the starter when it fails because of the excessive starting will cost you more than any savings you'll ever get in gas mileage by having the system enabled in the first place
@@VantasticPacifica Mine is broke too, at first I thought I had to take it in for service but now I'm happy after watching this video! I just need to live with the warning light which I can! No fixes needed, the van iteself fixed the problem!
Most people can't stand this feature, but it adds more wear and tear to your vehicle which means you'll be at the shop more often IMO, so manufacturers will of course keep it
Personally, I thought it was Chrysler engineers' way of squeeking thru some EPA standards for MPG. They may have been just short of passing the US gov imposed standard and concocted this theoretical plan that is only mathematically proven, not by the actual EPA testing or in real life.
Thanks to you my friend, I learned about Autostop Eliminator. The bad news was I had to wait over a year for them to cover my make and car. The good news is, the product is now available for Kia Seltos which I have. Today I am installing it. Free, free, free at last. Thank you! You are my Autostop Eliminator Hero! All the best to you and your channel!
Thank you!!! It works on a 2020 Buick Enclave that doesn’t have a on/off switch. There is a tiny light that comes on the steering wheel. You just made my day!
We have a 2019 and 2020, HATE stop start. Had been looking for over a year. Now you have saved my wife yelling at me for bitching about every time I get in. Thanks great tip. Only benefit of the system from hell being on is that the starter will fail early since it has many times more usage. You saved us from starter failure and headaches.
That's awesome! Glad to help. But like I said, it's not a perfect solution but it's probably the easiest and cheapest. I recently ordered a device that is supposed to remember how you left the button when you turned the car off so it'll still be that way when you turn it on again. I wouldn't say it's cheap($100) but it might be better than unplugging a wire from your sensitive electrical system and hoping for the best. After I install it and test it, I'll make another video for you.
Got a 2020 Pacifica sitting in my driveway right now. Wife drove it home from the dealership this afternoon. Has 20,000 miles on it, thinking of buying it. Your videos help!
If after you have completed this procedure and want to get rid of the annoying warning light, you can use an OBD2 reader to delete the warning from the cars warning codes list. Great video!
This was easy to listen to, very clear in the solution--I found the man enjoyable and real. I really liked his solution, gonna try on my Subaru Forester.
It's important to note that this feature isn't primarily for you as the customer. This feature is so the car manufacturers can market their car as slightly more efficient than it really is. This bumps them up on the charts since technically it will burn slightly less in the "city driving" metric. Since all the manufacturers are so close in terms of fuel economy, this tiny bump causes them to gain a lot of places on the charts if they do it and your company doesn't, thus this annoying feature spread throughout the industry like wildfire. The manufacturer doesn't care about the longevity of the car as long as it makes it to the end of the warranty period. so i mean, if you dont care either, and also dont want AC/Heat while stopped, and dont care about a worn-out starter, and dont care about wearing out the bottom end faster, then by all means save a few bucks a month on fuel (potentially). But for people who want to keep their car for a long time and not treat it like getting a new phone every year or 2, then this feature is crap.
that's right I know this "feature" is not for my benefit by *my* car while pissing me off every time I drive it. that's exactly why I need to change it to optional ..whether the factory or whoever likes it or not. I can live with the remaining annoyance of removing the fix before any warranty work instead of that button reminding me of how much it sucks every time I start my car 😎
It is not marketing by the manufacturers, it is overreaching regulations that engineers have to work around. Thank the politicians who appoint the nazis at the EPA. Voting has consequences
I started turning off the "Auto-Stall" feature every time I started my truck. After a week it was automatic. After a month I didn't realize that I was doing it. Like buckling up or stepping on the brake to shift the truck into reverse to back out of the garage, it becomes something that you do without thinking about it. PS I started calling it "auto stall" the second time it happened to me, and everyone else I know think it's an apt description.
There's an easier way without the warning light or unplugging everything, which will affect other features. Push the idle on/off button to off (light on). While holding it down, wedge a thin peice of plastic between that button and the console, so the button cannot go back up. It's jammed in the off mode. Been doing that for 3 years and works great!
I was going to try that today till I realized all my dash buttons including the turn on or off stop/start system button are all digital, so it is impossible to interfere with the electrical contact. To achieve the same goal, I would have to beg Chrysler to reprogram the OBC (on board computer), which they won't do without a $200 up front payment plus whatever they can cheat me out of while they have the vehicle secure inside. They even refused to honor a free reprogramming call back notice I rec'd from Chrysler head office. I think that's because Chrysler is now part of the Fiat family, which is trying to make a comeback in the US after a disastrous pull-out in the 1980s.
Better bring jump starter pack in your car along with this feature because oh boy you will need it some day i speak by experience…This stupid feature has left me stranded a couple of times in traffics light and the crazy thing is that the car doesn’t start on back leaving you in the middle of the streets. THANK YOU FOR SHARE THIS TRICK
Man.. I’m doing that right now on my Pacifica. I totally hate that stupid Start/Stop “technology” which does nothing but deplete the battery. Thank you so much for this video!
I'm glad this was helpful but I must say it's not perfect. If you have a Pacifica, you might consider the Auto Start Eliminator (not sponsored). Here's a video I made that talks about it. ua-cam.com/video/F7lMgQE5fC0/v-deo.html
The entire “stop/start” concept was to manipulate the mpg calculation. Try a test, first you fill up your gas tank at the start, remembering where you filled up, set your trip meter, drive your trip, return to the same gas station, same pump. Calculate your MPG, then compare it with your vehicles mpg estimate. Bet it’s different, why because I think it only uses miles and gas consumed when moving. The Auto/Stop/Start does damage to your turbocharger by, ”hot shut down” which fries the cooling system to the turbo. It doubles or triples the starter wear and tear, and the starter ring on the flywheel. And that’s just for basics, I bet there is more to come.
Thanks for the info! That tiny delay has almost killed my family several times! Our 2019 Volkswagon Tiguan was our first vehicle with this start-stop system. I discovered this death trap while trying to accelerate onto busy traffic lanes when seconds counted. My vehicle would bog down on me and basically stop and thrust forward, I had some close calls! My wife pulled up to the garage door with her foot on the brake and when she took her foot off the car lunged forward into the door. It took me a bit to figure out what was going on so I have been shutting the star-stop system for a while now with no other problems, it's just remembering to do it when I start the car. I wonder how many accidents this system has caused!
Thank you so much for sharing that. Do you mind if I repost it from time to time. I get a lot of comments basically telling me I should get over it or that I should stop being so lazy and just push the button. I try to be nice to everyone but those kind of comments are not helpful.😑
Heyyyy Indiana! Bless you sir! We have a Buick and the inside of the thingy you suggested we unplug is not green, BUT, it worked, and we are very grateful. Our car did not have the button to turn auto stop off at all. We do not get the warning light either. We are so happy (mostly due to the end of unnecessary wear and tear on our starter, flywheel, and the end of cold starts). Our engine thanks you as well💕
@@quantumexplorations3283 Is it a check engine light or auto stop/start light ("A" with a circle around it)? A check engine light could be a separate issue. Maybe try reconnecting that wire and see if it goes away.
Thank you. I just successfully disabled this nuisance in my 2020 Durango. A little trickier to do since my battery is in a well compartment under the front passenger seat. Done and happy about it!
Thank you so much for the simple solution you shared. Took me a few seconds to find and disconnect. Works a treat. Yes a small dash alert appears but not intrusive at all. My vehicle is a Ford Everest 2020 (Australia version). Soooo, happy it was this easy to solve!!!
Never unplug the battery monitor sensor the pcm uses this to regulate the battery voltage so the pcm dont over or under charge the battery.. never do that on a ford . Now your going to have to recharge your battery and use a scan tool to reset the battery sensor in your bcm ..my god people
Both my VW Atlas 2019 and Alfa Romeo Giulia 2018 have this feature.....it is most annoying when you are the first in line at stop sign at a busy intersection, and you need to get out in to traffic in a hurry. Engine noise is so quiet too you don't realize it has shut off....except in the summer the AC quits blowing cold air. I will try this trip.
Many thanks. Where we live there are lethal junctions which require split-second timing to pull-out onto busy roads. The stop-start thing would freak me out. If I am stuck in traffic for a while, I turn the engine off myself. Maybe I'm just weird.
Glad I found your video. I have that light on my "new to me" 2020 Pacifica and am taking it in next week to get checked out. I've seen people saying that the auxilary battery is dead and it's draining the main, so went out and popped my hood to see if previous owner had disconnected it. The little tab is still connected. Now I think my auxillary battery is dead for sure.
That truly is a safety issue for the driver having the engine quit at stop signs....I would put a piece of tape over the disabled plug to keep moisture out ..Thank you for showing how to disable the problem..Have a blessed day..
@@alfredsoyemi6425 In my opinion having the engine quit and restart in traffic is dangerous and a safety concern.. Because of delay time response to continue driving. Plus short stop/starts are hard on the battery life. Especially in very colder states weather that puts extra strain on the battery. As cold winter weather takes much more power to start an engine. I could see engine shutting off in long stalled traffic. Such as an accident/clean up, etc to save fuel. Like I said this is my opinion. What's yours?
Thanks for the tip. My wife gets very hot because it seems the air conditioner slows down when the engine shuts down. I didn’t know what to do So great tip. Thanks
I used to have a start/stop Malibu. When coming to a stoplight or stop sign, release the brake pedal slightly just before stopping, then press brake as usual. Worked ever time and it becomes a habit to keep the engine from stopping. The environmental benefit and gas savings is so small. Keep the engine going and save your battery and engine life.
Sorry if I wasn't clear. As I was braking to a stop, before I completely stopped, I lifted up on the brake pedal and pressed down as normal. This did keep the engine running. Manufacturers say the starters and such were built for the auto stop feature. I too agree that restarting will take its toll on the engine. Their idea of gas savings is a joke.
Well done Adrian. I'm just about to buy a car with that function and I'm not too keen on it. I'll give it a try but probably will be looking for that switch to disconnect it. Thanks.
Well, they say the starter has been modified so there is less wear and tear. The starter shouldn't be a problem. But you are absolutely right about it not saving any fuel. It's just a way for auto manufacturers to game the system and claim better fuel economy. And you're also right about it being "BS technology". It most definitely is.
On my Chrysler 2018 Pacifica there is one button to disable it but only temporarily. It resets to the default position of coming on automatically, I have to remember to hit that button right after the motor's start button. A Chrysler salesman told me that on some higher more expensive Pacifica models, that choice to turn the start/stop system is available on the settings screen. But not in mine and I have never heard anyone say they have that option on their settings screen so he was probably just trying to make me upgrade to a more expensive problem, not a resolution.
I never owned a car with start-stop. Thank you for enlightening me as to why "the Internet" hates this feature. Is the delay the only irritating aspect of this feature?
Scared me the first time on the Honda Civic Sport when I forgot to turn this off. Strange feature in an otherwise great car that doesn't need that crap to begin with, getting nearly 400 miles of range and over 25 mpg just regular town/city driving. I might do this and make sure it doesn't void the warranty either. Thanks man!
I'm waiting for these to start failing in traffic, light turns green - NOTHING - then someone hits you in the back because they expected you to move and your car is sitting there clicking. Actually the idea of jimmying the hood switch sounds like a good one. Something that can be done with a paper clip, tape and isn't permanent. I'm betting that is to keep motor running for mechanics.
Hello mate! I was shocked of this crazy start/stop and call the seller and he told me. In Thailand in traffic jam you come 5m and stop and the car stop all the time! Talk about stress!! So complicated and expensive system! Why they don't ask the customers first? In the evening i should look at my battery but i don't take away the cable yet. Maybe the insurance not applies? But the close button is my best friend. Regards from 🇹🇭 😊
Trying this today. If it works, you will be my hero lol I HATE how the car turns off when I'm trying to do and quick stop and go at a stop sign or right turn on red. It's dangerous when you need to move out of the way.
I'm sure no one ever mentions the most serious problem with this feature. When your vehicle does not restart after lifting your foot off the brake. My car has stopped several times at a stop light and would not restart. So I had to place it into park and turn off my engine, then restart it. My most scariest and most unacceptable occasion was when I was in RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC (stop. & go). My vehicle stopped, I quickly placed it into park and tried 3 times to restart before my vehicle restarted. I took it to the dealership and told them I do not want this feature and wanted it removed or disabled but was told it couldn't be disabled. I was told it was because my battery needed to be recharged. I am waiting for the first court case of injury or death for anything to change. My next vehicle will be based on not having this feature. Good luck, everyone.
@@VantasticPacifica Thanks Buddy, I'm not too worried. I'm over 50 with no family, plus I'm pretty cautious. I'm worried about those young families with kids. Thanks for spreading the word.
I had exactly the same experience in heavy urban traffic. Fortunately, some archaic instinct made me do the park & start routine. Some day a victim of this totally dangerous phenomenon cooked up by engineers to sneak by increasingly impossible-to-meet EPA standards will try to exit their vehicle in road rage traffic conditions and get murdered. Then, maybe Washington incompetents will tell EPA idiots to relax MPG requirements so car manufacturers don't have to virtually cheat the EPA tests by using theoretical mathematical models.
I have a 2019 Kia StingerGT with that annoying feature and mighty tired of shuttin' it off. You gave me somethin' to look for on the battery and see if it's the same setup. Fingers crossed. I can live with the warning light on the cluster - I'll think of the A - as everything is A-OK.
2:42 I'm in a 2019 GMC Terrain which does NOT have the button, so I can never turn Auto Stop off. And GMC made their Auto Stop hyper-aggressive, shutting off each moment the wheels stop. As you say, very annoying. I roll up to a 4-way stop with nobody there, if I follow the law and actually stop, the motor dies and I want to start immediately. What is really bad is when I'm in the middle of the road trying to make a left and having to pause for someone, then try to dart across before the next oncoming car while people are fast approaching me from behind, and viola no engine! That's DANGEROUS. Other car videos looked at this and said the fuel savings are minimal to begin with, car makers were forced into this as a last-ditch effort to keep gas engines viable in the face of the D party trying to strong-arm the public into EVs they dont want.
I certainly agree with your assessment about the system being dangerous when making a left turn. I said the exact same thing in the video. But your narrative on why the car manufacturers are doing this is slightly inaccurate. The manufacturers were given a mandate nearly 10 years ago for all cars to get at least 35 MPG. But it was easier for them to come up with this feature than to actually create cars that get better mileage. All this feature does is allow them to do a few mathematical tricks so they can legally say the car gets better mileage even though it does not in real world conditions. It has far less to do with the D party and a lot more to do with corporate greed. But to be fair to the automotive industry, this auto stop start feature is not the only idea they came up with. You might have noticed there are practically no more 8 cylinder engines and a lot more 4-6 cylinder engines with a turbo slapped on it. This is a fuel economical solution while still providing the power when you need it. Also, no one is forcing electric vehicles on anyone. This all started when Tesla made electric vehicles that were, for the first time beautiful, powerful and useful. They started out making them so expensive that the car itself represented elite status which of course made everybody want one. Tesla could not keep up with demand which meant there was plenty of space in the market for other manufacturers. The public likes electric cars for some reason and the old fashioned manufacturers must now make them in order to keep up. It's quite possible that in a few years there will be no more combustion engine vehicles. And when that happens, I don't want you blaming either political party. I's just the free market at work.
You are so wrong. Tons of stories of manufacturers being stuck with EV inventory they were subsidized to produce. Tons of evidence people do not want EVs and the myriad of problems associated with them. If a person wants an EV fine...but to mass enforce them on the public, especially without the infrastructure to support is crazy. Notice that Biden and Newsom along with most Dems are full on-board with this crap, So it is political. *BTW, Tesla's are a fine car if that is what a person CHOOSES for their lifestyle.
To be fair, you're responding to a comment I wrote 5 months ago. When it comes to technology, 5 months is a long time. But I'm still not convinced that I'm wrong. I'm not sure what evidence you're referring to that indicates people don't want EVS. There is data showing a significant drop in sales of EVs but that's only because Tesla's sales are down and they hold such a large percentage of the market that it makes it look like the whole Market is down. But take another look. Every other EV company is skyrocketing. Besides, try not to think of it as a car, think of it as technology. There were plenty of people who didn't want smartphones when they came out. But over time smartphones not only dominate the market but they're pretty much the only phone anyone uses nowadays. In the early days of cell phones there was a significant lack of cell towers and other cellular infrastructure. Cell service was spotty and expensive, but as you can see that didn't stop the technology. Eventually, the infrastructure was built and onward we marched. I also don't understand what you mean when you suggest that EVs are being “mass enforced” onto the public. If EVs are somehow better for the environment (and I'm not saying they are) but if they are, then it would be the duty of the government to make them available to the public. Subsidizing companies to make them and incentivizing people to buy them is not mass enforcement. Finally, you said Tesla's were a “fine car”. I'm not exactly sure what prompted you to say that. I reread my comments and I didn't see where I said anything negative about Tesla's. In fact, I believe I called them “beautiful, powerful, and useful”. Please correct me if I'm wrong or maybe I misunderstood you. And thank you for your comment. I always enjoy intelligent conversations.
@@VantasticPacifica Computer tech may move fast, but once a car is manufactured, it's life is a LOT longer. People cannot replace their cars like they can with their computers.
Very much appreciate your tip. Another reason for doing this is to avoid unnecessary extra wear on the engine from the starting and stopping which involves oil depressurization each cycle. It's so aggravating that they do these things to cars without having a referendum on them before. There's a number of things on cars I would like to shut off I hate the modern car due to the lack of user choices on various systems like seat belts. Well at least we didn't have to start running our power steering
Yeh man, I read years ago (AAA magazine) that if you're not going to sit more than 3 minutes then you will waste more fuel restarting the engine than idling 3 minutes. Also you are drastically reducing the life of your starter (and other related components). The oil is so thin in small engines today that they get lubrication almost instantly, so I don't think there would be a problem as you would have in a big block 8 cylinder engine wearing because it takes longer to get oil to all the metal parts when you start the engine. Thanks for the info.
You know if most people would drive with reasonable pressure on the gas pedal they would increase their fuel economy immeasurably... it's absolutely not worth the pennies when you have to have a major repair on the car due to this unwanted technology
Thank you! What the EPA does not tell you is that it shortens the life of your car's battery, your car's starter and, causes problems with most car's dashcams.
Not true about the battery life. Most vehicles with auto start-stop have 2 batteries. In fact, what he did in this video was disconnect the auxiliary battery at the IBS (intelligent battery sensor) module. Now the system doesn't have power to send to the starter if/when it shuts off at a stoplight.
@@VantasticPacifica That was on you brother. You made yourself look smart. I was simply trying to slow the spread of propaganda. Anyhow, I just saw your update video. With the views you generated, they should have given you a free switch.

Don't Do this! If you want to disable auto start/stop on your F150 (works on 2021-2023 models for sure, don't know about older models or the upcoming 2024 refresh, but I'm pretty sure its the same or similar.) Go into your infotainment system. Bring up Features. Bring up towing. Choose select default trailer. That's it. That's all you have to do. Don't buy any devices. Don't jumper the button. Don't disconnect the BMS from the negative lead on the battery. The truck will think a trailer is connected, but it won't cut off your backup camera, or give you any warning messages or anything like that. Plus you don't run any risk of voiding your warranty, or shorting your circuitry with some cheap Chinese "auto start eliminator," or by plugging in some trailer circuit test kit that isn't designed to be left in as you drive the truck every day leaving it exposed to the elements.
Awesome! Thank you for useful tip. I'm sure that will help a lot of people. But in the interest of fairness, I don't believe Auto Start Eliminator is a Chinese company. I believe their headquarters are in West Virginia. I'm not affiliated with them in any way. I just wanted to be fair. Otherwise, I 100% agree with you that if auto stop can be disabled via menu options already built into the car, then that would be the best option.
I bought a gadget online that disabled this feature. If I had seen your video sooner I might have saved some money. Either way, my car now runs like a "normal" car without that start/stop nonsense!
It takes more fuel to start a vehicle just leave it run for the few seconds that it’s going to be running. It’s more mechanical parts to break down so that the starter that you’re using to start your car initially is going to wear out quicker just another way for manufactures to make more money
"Think of it as a light that brings you joy!" So freaking funny. I applauded you. Normally I hate that kind of thinking, but I hate the Auto S/S thing so much, I would welcome the "(A!)" ... A little electrical tape can fix that too! God bless you. Hope this works on my Sonata!
Does this work on any car? Are all of these systems set up the same? I love that you can do that so easily. I am in the market for an suv so I will definitely check under the hood for this connection! Thank you so much for the tip!!
I'm hearing from other viewers it does not work in every car, though I'm pretty sure it works in every Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram. Check out the updated video. I talked about a company that sells a product that gets rid of start-stop without risking the car's electrical system. it is vehicle specific so you'll have to check to see if they make one for your car. But so far it's been working out great for me and I feel comfortable recommending it.ua-cam.com/video/F7lMgQE5fC0/v-deo.html
This plug was super easy to find on my 2021 Jeep Wrangler. There are 2 batteries in the Wrangler, and the lower one is hard to get to, but the plug is on the negative terminal of the upper battery.
The wire lets the computer know the state of charge of the battery. The SS system will not function with a battery that has a low state of charge. Removing the wire prevents the computer from having that information. Without that information, the system is deactivated.
Thanks so much,I’m glad I ran across your video I went out to my Cherokee 2019 and checked it out and it’s exactly just like yours. I did a lot of cussing every time I got into my Jeep, thanks again.
Thank you very much!! Applied perfectly on my Opel Astra K 2017 EcoFlex. For the Opel guys out there, my plug was purple inside and for best application use some electrical tape, as mentioned, for safety reasons. Besides from a notice on the start, everything great !!
That 1 that you showed about the peddle stop start at stop streets and robots,i thank you for that,i mean how long will the starter hold even of maybe everyday on the freeway and there's bumber to bumber car's and the a accident on the freeway
Good video well done! Question: Is that little wire you disconnected from the battery the standard way that auto start stop is hooked up in most if not all GM,Chrysler and Ford vehicles?
I don't really know. I'm not even sure it has much to do with the start/stop system. I think it has more to do with battery monitoring. But without it, it somehow screws up the start/ stop system.
Thanks for your help I was able to find a youtube video on accessing the chassis battery on a Ford Transit 350. It would be a job for a certified mechanic just to get to that wire lol. Its disappointing that Ford actually in the middle of the night updated the 2022 Ford Transit software which now prevents the disabling of the auto start feature. You no longer can even press the "A" button to de-activate after starting the vehicle. To me this is a safety hazard that eventually may rise to a class action suit against Ford.
Biggest issue for me isn't the slight delay in the engine starting, it's turning off an engine that's already off and starting the darned thing up again! I pull up outside my house, wiggle back and forth a bit to get close to the wall, handbrake on, shift into park, press the button to turn the engine off ... and the engine starts!
Yes, I had that issue too. When I stop to park, the engine shuts off. I shift into park, it turns back on then I have to turn it off. It felt so unnecessary.
Happy to help. Did you see my video on the Auto Stop Eliminator? I assume that's the 100 bucks you're referring to.😁 ua-cam.com/video/F7lMgQE5fC0/v-deo.htmlsi=ujEzXI4a5H3bwCAN
Great video. Very well explained information. Thanks for teaching us how to stop this stupid feature. I think it's just a way to sell starters & batteries.
I just got my 2021 Hyundai Elantra se and absolutely hate that feature i cant stand hitting an extra button to disengage that ugh.. i just like to get in a go but great video very insightful.
Thanks for the tip. I just got a 2019 Pacifica today 🎉 very low miles. That’s probably what made me think something wasn’t right with the car. I didn’t realize about that delay. What kind of gas mileage are you getting on yours? I only drove in the city today but it was only reading 16.5 mpg. I thought it would do a little better. I think I’m going to live this van once I get used to all the features.
Congratulations on your new Pacifica! I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine. In the city, I get around 18 or 19 miles per gallon but a lot depends on how you drive and even the weather plays a factor. You'll get better fuel mileage when the weather cools off. But when I get out on the open road for hours at a time, I can get up to 30 miles per gallon. set your cruise control to 60 miles per hour and stay in the slow lane and just relax. On a cool day on relatively flat roads, you'll get over 500 miles per tank!
Vantastic Pacifica oh now I feel a lot better! 30 mpg sounds awesome. I plan on getting out and see the country. I love the Pacifica’s stow and go and the panoramic sunroof. Love how you have modified your van for road trips. Would you recommend your mattress?
@@SweetbearCoyote That depends on which mattress you mean. In my first video I had a 3-inch mattress which is only good for an overnighter or two but at least it was relatively inexpensive. If you plan to spend more than one night in your van, I would go with the six inch memory foam mattress. It's not cheap but it has been great! It's a very simple trifold design that stores easily. And the cover comes off so you can wash it. Here's a link to the exact one that I have. amzn.to/2CphvH6
Work arounds work sometimes but they are not safe. Just look at the added workload you are putting on the starter, etc. An engineer came up with a system the reverses the process so you have to use the same switch to turn this system ON instead of off. This is for the Ridgeline at the Ridgeline Store...an aftermarket switch.
Much simpler is to not to keep the brake pedal pushed to the floor when stopped. At least in my Renault Grand Scenic (automatic) that works. If i stop at a light i just push the brake to the floor and auto stop/start works. When i estimate the light will turn green soon i just lift my foot a little and the engine starts right away so it is running when i get green. If i stop at a stop sign i come to a full stop and just lift my foot a little. Car stays stopped (no motion) but the engine will not switch off. No need to get under the hood or seat or where ever and mess with electonics at all.
Yes, you're not the first to suggest that. Sadly it doesn't work in every car. In the Chrysler Pacifica, for example, it's programmed to detect the moment the car comes to a complete stop and the engine will instantly shut off. But that's not really the point. People shouldn't have to drive like that. Some would argue that avoiding complete stops and being afraid to use your brake pedal could be dangerous. We should have the option to not have this system in the car.
The way this man shows in his video is a Legit way and its the exact same for the New Nissan Frontiers - Make a disconnection at the battery but have a warning light flashing on the Speedo. Fortunately for us Frontier owners the warning light is Grey and just blends in with the Grey lights on the dash. His looks like a BIG ORANGE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STYLE - Sorry No way would i put up with that. BEST WAY TO DO IT without any annoying lights and everything functioning as normal is to bridge the 2 wires that the button is making a connection to when you push the button. That's what a button does, it makes 2 wires connect when you push it. Bridge the 2 wires and the switch will always be ON and A.S.S. OFF as if you pushed the button. You'll need the wiring schematic for your vehicle to know which 2 wires are having the connection made when the button is pushed. I did it with my 2023 Nissan Frontier. Took all of 7 minutes to do once i knew which 2 wires i was after. No cutting at all involved either. The Eliminators on Amazon work as well too and what they'll do is just remember your last selection of ON or OFF so the button is still usable. Whether adding an Eliminator or Jumper Wire it requires the same amount of work - pretty much pulling off a single panel. All Those A.S.S. Buttons are basically the same. I took it a step further and totally deleted the button, got a 2022 bezel for my 2023 which in '22 there wasn't an A.S.S. Feature at all and now i don't have the switch at all anymore and A.S.S is always OFF. Turns out all you have to do to disable A.S.S. is to jumper the 2 identified pins on the harness and the button isn't even needed. A Jumper wire is just shoving the ends of a 1'' wire into the back of the harness where the wires/pins go into. You'll need small 20-22 Gauge Wire so again, NO CUTTING REQUIRED. THERE ARE NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS. Here's an example in one of a couple videos i made. Check link in the description of the Video to Club Frontier for a better understanding. All these cars are pretty much the same. I'm leading the horse to water - will you drink or just complain and have a big ugly Warning Light on your Speedo/Gauge Cluster? ua-cam.com/video/6wJPEQpBVH0/v-deo.html&lc= Screw It - Here's the Club Frontier Link thats in the video description: www.clubfrontier.org/threads/auto-start-stop-a-s-s-deleted.387547/#post-4127720 Again, all of these cars A.S.S. Button setup is are pretty much identical. Watch Video and see how simple it is to add the jumper wire. I also have another video showing how to install the jumper from start to finish. Many cars will be similar but if you have a 2022+ Nissan Frontier you're in luck.
@@VantasticPacifica For Sure, i Hope it helps somebody too and i'm sure there will be quite a few DIYers that do. I've spoken to quite a few people that have done the Frontier since i'm in a group. Give people the info and they'll take it and run with it.
I HATE STOP/START!!! Thanks for making this video. Most of the time I want the engine running while stopped. The only real savings is when you are waiting in the drive-thru line at a fast food joint or when you stop to talk with someone for a while. Otherwise, not much saved when you just stop at a light or stop sign. Also, I think that there is a dedicated extra battery for the stop/start system and this is charged from the alternator, so that when you think that the electrical system is turned off simply by disconnecting the main battery, there is still current in the system. Here is a link to how this is done on the Jeep Wrangler JL: ua-cam.com/video/Nh2A5vpzZCA/v-deo.html
Thanks for that information cause I’ve been having that light on with the A Exclamation on the dashboard and all I was told was just to drive and she go away so now that I saw what you did so it’s a possibility somebody unplugged it I drive a 2021 latitude and nobody has ever told me that somebody could’ve unplugged it from under the hood is there any other possibilities why that icon is on because I was also told that it could be that the batteries low now the battery is not low it’s halfway the Is 50%, the auxiliary battery which is 56% and I took it to another mechanic to check the battery and they’re the ones fire stone that told me I don’t need to replace the battery but the dealership won’t need to replace the regular battery so I’m going to wait until I get the icon light to indicate that the battery is low what do you suggest?
First, I'm obligated to inform you that I'm not a mechanic in any way. That said... my limited understanding of that dash light is that it indicates when the systom is not operating and this can be caused by several conditions including (but not limited to) extremely cold weather, extremely hot weather, hood ajar, hood latch malfunction, pulling a trailer, low battery(s) or a diconnected battery monitoring system. Those are the only ones I can think of.
Been searching the internet for a disable remedy to Auto Start/Stop - thank you so much for all your effort in making this video.
You're welcome! I hope it helps.
You're very welcome!

Totally agree. That split second lag is especially dangerous at busy T-junctions.
Yup.
Yes it is. It has almost caused a couple of accidents in the car.
Can you hear the honking behind you?
Going slowly thru a pothole or over a speedbump and the engine shuts off ffs

Or some dealers are shiftier than others.
I feel the same way
Thanks so much! I loved it when you said that seeing that dashboard warning light illuminated - brings you joy! We must have been cut from the same cloth. 😊
Absolutely!!😁
Excellent video ! I have a Ford Fusion 2020 and has basically the same setup. What was more annoying than having to hit that button every time you start the car was FORGETTING to hit that button every time I start the car.!!
Haha! Exactly! Check out the updated video to...ua-cam.com/video/F7lMgQE5fC0/v-deo.html
I wouldn't mind this feature so much if it had a grace period. Like, if the engine shut off maybe 5 seconds after I press the brake.
Thank you and I hope your inspection goes well.😀
If its not too late to do so, try reading the code(s) related to that engine light.
The reason for you to replace starters
@@BlatentlyFakeName for BMW, you can use "Beamercode" to disable the start/stop feature.
I'm pretty sure most cars can be programed, if you have proper software.
@David Jacobs Thankfully when I ordered my F150 I was able to completely eliminate this feature altogether. Don't ever have to worry about it.
You are saving the life of your cars starter by 450%..good work...cheers
Thanks 👍
Ours broke all by itself so I didn't have to do this technique but this is an awesome information to have. The one thing that maybe others don't realize is that this system causes your car to start over and over again which seems obvious but the cost of the starter when it fails because of the excessive starting will cost you more than any savings you'll ever get in gas mileage by having the system enabled in the first place
Mine also broke once but when I took it to the dealership on an unrelated issue, they also fixed the start/stop as if they were doing me a favor.😫

Most people can't stand this feature, but it adds more wear and tear to your vehicle which means you'll be at the shop more often IMO, so manufacturers will of course keep it
😁
You need to research what they have done to prevent what you're talking about.
It has a special starter and a special battery.
Man! That's how I felt after I installed mine. I described it as "Driving normally again" Lol!😁
Thank you!!! It works on a 2020 Buick Enclave that doesn’t have a on/off switch. There is a tiny light that comes on the steering wheel. You just made my day!
Glad it helped!😎
I thought cars with auto start/stop had beefier starters to compensate for their frequent use. Do you disagree?
Got a 2020 Pacifica sitting in my driveway right now. Wife drove it home from the dealership this afternoon. Has 20,000 miles on it, thinking of buying it. Your videos help!
Oh, wow! That sounds exciting! Let me know what you decide.
If after you have completed this procedure and want to get rid of the annoying warning light, you can use an OBD2 reader to delete the warning from the cars warning codes list.
Great video!
That's a great tip! Thanks for sharing.😀
what a calm and composed way of explaining.. thanks a lot for the complete insight.. will try if this is applicable to VW Taigun in Indian Market..

The man thanks you for your kind words.😁

100% Agree.
It's all the EPA fault. Every bad design feature of your car is the fault of the EPA.
Does it void ur warranty?
that's right I know this "feature" is not for my benefit by *my* car while pissing me off every time I drive it. that's exactly why I need to change it to optional ..whether the factory or whoever likes it or not.
Yes, auto stall does sound about right. I hear in the future, cars won't have that off button anymore.
Yes, I've heard about this one. The guy recommended using a guitar pick. I think this could be an excellent idea!😀
can you show a photo please thanks!
A zip tie works too.Trying to add a pic and it's not letting me.
Thanks for the comment😀
Yup.

Many thanks. Where we live there are lethal junctions which require split-second timing to pull-out onto busy roads. The stop-start thing would freak me out. If I am stuck in traffic for a while, I turn the engine off myself. Maybe I'm just weird.
If that makes you weird, then you've come to the right place. With rare exceptions, everyone in these comments feels the same.😁
Glad I found your video.
Congratulations on the "new to you" Pacifica!😀Sorry to hear about your battery issue but I'm glad my video helped a little. Thanks for the comment!😁
That truly is a safety issue for the driver having the engine quit at stop signs....I would put a piece of tape over the disabled plug to keep moisture out ..Thank you for showing how to disable the problem..Have a blessed day..
Your're very welcome!
"That truly is a safety issue for the driver having the engine quit at stop signs" How is that a safety Issue care to explain details?
Thanks
My pleasure! Hope it works for you. I'm gonna tell your wife you called her "very hot".🤣
That didn't work in my Pacifica. If you stop, so does the engine.
Yes..works great on the Malibu.

You must push the button!
Well done Adrian. I'm just about to buy a car with that function and I'm not too keen on it. I'll give it a try but probably will be looking for that switch to disconnect it. Thanks.
Um, you're welcome? Who's Adrian?
It's hell on the starter and components. The life of the starter is greatly reduced. I doubt there is minimal fuel savings. It's BS technology.
Well, they say the starter has been modified so there is less wear and tear. The starter shouldn't be a problem. But you are absolutely right about it not saving any fuel. It's just a way for auto manufacturers to game the system and claim better fuel economy. And you're also right about it being "BS technology". It most definitely is.
its mostly for emissions than it is fuel savings but still BS
Exactly 100% true. I am sure the service department love it.
Just like the remote start to cars its kills the life of the starter
@@SmartyPantsDumbShit best profile name ever. 🤣
OMG! My exact frustration about the auto start. It's also frustrating that it can't just be one button to disable it.
Yep, they don't won't you to disable it.😫
On my Chrysler 2018 Pacifica there is one button to disable it but only temporarily.
Nice job. Best ever and practical auto guy to watch. Thank you.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! That is the most irritating feature ever put on a vehicle!
I was trying to be polite when I was giving my opinion on Start/stop systems. It was hard to talk about it without curse words.
I never owned a car with start-stop. Thank you for enlightening me as to why "the Internet" hates this feature. Is the delay the only irritating aspect of this feature?
@@CristianKlein Pretty much.
Great tip..... thank you i hate that damn start/ stop

I don’t know about Chrysler but with ford if you disconnect that it also disables the battery monitoring system

Thanks man!
Hope it helped.
😊

But now it's very nice with my Pajero.

See you!
Trying this today. If it works, you will be my hero lol I HATE how the car turns off when I'm trying to do and quick stop and go at a stop sign or right turn on red. It's dangerous when you need to move out of the way.

Thanks for the wonderful video on disabling the auto idle stop. my question is will it work on a 2023 Honda Civic?
I'm not sure. But if you try it, let us know how it goes!😁
If it makes you feel any better, you're not the first to mention this. Another guy said this feature almost killed his family.
@@VantasticPacifica Thanks Buddy, I'm not too worried. I'm over 50 with no family, plus I'm pretty cautious. I'm worried about those young families with kids. Thanks for spreading the word.
I had the same issue with trying to restart my truck at an intersection. Auto start stop working so I'll keep it this way.
Lol! Good luck!😀
I'm with you 100 percent! They can add all the wierd features they want as long as they include a permanent off switch.
No, thank YOU.😀
What about the xtra wear and tear on the on the engine, battery, starter? Is tit worth the fuel savings?
It's possible.
😆
You have documented technical proof?
Not true about the battery life. Most vehicles with auto start-stop have 2 batteries. In fact, what he did in this video was disconnect the auxiliary battery at the IBS (intelligent battery sensor) module. Now the system doesn't have power to send to the starter if/when it shuts off at a stoplight.

It takes more fuel to start a vehicle just leave it run for the few seconds that it’s going to be running. It’s more mechanical parts to break down so that the starter that you’re using to start your car initially is going to wear out quicker just another way for manufactures to make more money

The wire lets the computer know the state of charge of the battery. The SS system will not function with a battery that has a low state of charge. Removing the wire prevents the computer from having that information. Without that information, the system is deactivated.

Good video well done! Question: Is that little wire you disconnected from the battery the standard way that auto start stop is hooked up
in most if not all GM,Chrysler and Ford vehicles?
I don't really know. I'm not even sure it has much to do with the start/stop system. I think it has more to do with battery monitoring. But without it, it somehow screws up the start/ stop system.
Thanks for your help I was able to find a
youtube video on accessing the chassis battery on a Ford Transit 350. It would be
a job for a certified mechanic just to get to
that wire lol. Its disappointing that Ford
actually in the middle of the night updated
the 2022 Ford Transit software which now
prevents the disabling of the auto start feature. You no longer can even press the "A"
button to de-activate after starting the vehicle. To me this is a safety hazard that
eventually may rise to a class action suit against Ford.

I think 75 x 31 x 6 is the minimum a mattress should be. Any less than that, you risk not getting a good night sleep.

😁
Thank you for taking the time to write all that and for including links. Hopfully this will help some people.😀
@@VantasticPacifica For Sure, i Hope it helps somebody too and i'm sure there will be quite a few DIYers that do. I've spoken to quite a few people that have done the Frontier since i'm in a group. Give people the info and they'll take it and run with it.
restarting engine actually causes more where and tear on engine and componenets
Yep.
Good informative video, my friend didn't find the button to turn it off and just a matter of time before you need to replace a new starter
😎
Love the bloopers!!! 🤣🤣🤣
You just like seeing me hurt myself!
Thanks for the remedy now i don,t have to lose sleep over the start stop its so so annoying thanks again,
Awesome! You are the reason I made this video.😀
That was a good video, r g. Thanks for the link! I love Jeeps. Had 3 Grand Cherokees and a Liberty.
Some vehicles do have an AUX battery. Newer jeeps, chevy Malibu, and the impala just to name a few.
@@Rock_Reggae_Riff Agree!
@@Rock_Reggae_Riff Jeeps should come with a complete spare set of electricals and a spare engine.
