I know right!! I'm almost at the perfect setup now running a 34'' tire, but still have wheel spacers so next up is the right wheel with a negative offset and I'll be set!
Well, i am glad i found your video.😅 Just got me a 3rd Gen Taco and have been searching for so long because i dont want to trim my truck at all. This video is very helpful, thanks!!
Another great video. Thank you. After an obsessive amount of research, I went with a 3”/2” lift, then installed Ridge Grapplers 285/70/R17, 9” wide Mayhem wheels with -10mm offset. The tires are 6-ply, C-rated, thus saving weight. E rating is overkill for my needs. I’m happy to report that I have zero rubbing on the cab mount at full stuff. I did have to trim a few centimeters of plastic on the front outside corner of the wheel well. Very easy fix with the Dremel and a bit of heat gun. I could not be happier with how it turned out!
That’s about the same setup I will be going with. I’m pretty confident with the plastic trimming but I’m worried about cab mount rubbing because I live above the rust belt and would rather not do the chop.
I love 17 inch by 8.5 inch with no offset which is the perfect wheel size for all around daily driving and off road ! There's a lot of data behind this size wheel plus saves a lot of gas vs a 9 inch or 10 inch. Without a lift I love a 265x70 tire with that setup as well !
There's not going to be a significant mpg difference between the wheel being wider. The wider the tire possibly the heavier it is. Where are you seeing this information? We are talking a few pounds of a difference. Obviously stock tires will differ from larger ones of course. But as long as you love your setup that's all that matters man! Every has a style and look they are going for!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Yeah I get it man everyone will choose whatever they want but your statement of not wasting more gas or not being a big difference is a contradiction on your part.its basic science there's plenty of data to support my claims. This is the main reason why many vehicle manufacturers go with 17 inch wheels because of those reasons that I stated. The new Ford raptor will also be coming in stock with 17 inch by 8.5 with huge tires ! Once you go bigger than 17 inch wheels then you sacrifice a lot in many aspects including performance...
@@BrosFOURRSpeed absolutely. Just bought a 2018 TRD sport. Only 7k miles. Getting shipped here to Memphis from Fl in next few days. Has a 3 inch lift. Planning on doing your 0 offset with 33s. It has a topper as well I plan on selling.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed stock is a 265/60R18 and highway tires on the Limited. As I was told by the tire guy it’s more then just one step up in size. About 2” taller and slightly wider. I didn’t want to truck I paid off from new rubbing etc wasn’t something I want.
Honestly not much bigger! If you got adjustable upper control arms, you can push the tire about .5'' forward for more clearance to go a little bigger, but if you don't plan on changing any of the suspension components, you're limited to staying very close to the stock specs.
I was able to put 265/75/16 toyo open country at3 tires on my stock 2020 tacoma sr5 without any issues at all, no trimming or modifications needed. On an sr5, once you inatall a 3” lift, you can fit 285’s (33”) tires.
You covered a lot really quick . I have a 23 Tacoma 3 inch lift front and back what is the best size tire and the best size wheel both on and off road no rubbing Thanks .
I did cover all of that! Depends on the cutting you want to do. I had about a 4'' lift up front/3.5'' in the rear and in the end, had 34x12.5 tires with zero rubbing after cutting and new alignments. With just the lift and zero cutting, a 33x11 could fit with a wheel having a 0 offset. My first setup I believe was 32x11 with an 18x9 0 offset and I barely had rubbing and that only happened in reverse full lock. Hope that helps too.
Great informative vid!! I think you made a mistake at 1:38 though(?) where you said the stock unlifted truck could take a 265/75/17 tire equating to a 31.6x10.5. That actually would be 32.6"x10.5 if my calculations are right (and would probably need trimming). Did you mean to say 265/70/17?..... Thanks!
So my tires in this video are 285 70 17 and the wheel is 17x9 0 offset. With the lift I have....ua-cam.com/video/dcMd5BOT1pQ/v-deo.html... there wasn't any issues as I showed! If you still with a narrow tire, you'll be fine! I'm running a 34 now and with an alignment, I still don't have any rubbing, but have done a lot of cutting!
Im about to purchase a set of 16x8 Method NV 305 Bronze wheels and BFGoodrich T/A KO2 265/75/r16. I might go to Rimzone to get them installed. I'm not planning on lifting the truck so hopefully this works out with the stock height lol. I'm from mooresville
Check out Tread Connections, highly recommend them! They will come to your house to do the mount/balance! That sounds like the stock tire size if not just slightly different so should be good!
I’m looking to get the same wheel tire combo on my truck. I know you posted this a while ago, but I’d be curious to hear your thoughts on how it turned out and if you’d recommend getting the same setup. Cheers
@@ryansams3322 I ended up going with a set of Relations Race Wheels (RRW) RR5-S in 16x8 -12 offset in Matte Bronze on BFGoodrich KO2 265/75R16. I had the truck lifted 1.5 inches at RimzOne with Fox 2.0 shocks. I have some pictures posted on my TacomaWorld account and my username is brandon78lusch
Most of the rubbing was on the cab mount and sometimes on the frame (that can be fixed with a different offset), and a little on the front fender liner. I'm running 34's now with zero rubbing! So it's just a matter of getting the setup right!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed thanks, I just got a 21 and I am trying to figure out rims and tires for it, but it'sy daily driver so I have no me shot at getting it right
If the truck is completely stock with no lift, you will be limited in how wide you can go. You really can't unless you do some trimming or the cab mount chop. You could go wider if you keep the height the same, but it won't be much!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed thanks bud! Just added 5.29 gears ⚙ and now working on adding 35's but need to save and prep my truck for that first! Lol I Currently have 33's 12.50 17. I had to do a cmc to make those work but now I'm going to have to do a bigger cab chop. Looking into some product that Running4tacos has that will allow you to make those 35s to work.
I have a 22 TRD SPORT 4X4. I rarely do any offroad and mostly gravel roads and some logging roads. I would like to put 285/70/R17 on my stock Rims (I know, weird, but I kinda like the way they look). Would I need to do a CMC? Or just plastic Trim? Thoughts anyone?
I have a 2023 taco v6 4x4 SR5 what is the biggest tires I can go with on a stock suspension or height I would like to keep my 16 inch rims. Later on I want to add a leveling kit 2 inch front and 1 inch rear. For now I just want tires. Definitely want to avoid spacers. Was thinking 275/70r 16.
I’m looking for new tires for my 21 Tacoma TRD Sport. No lift and it is my daily driver. We do a lot of camping and fishing so nothing crazy. I do not want to do any cutting or lifting right now. What would be a good size and brand tire?
You really can only add the stock tire specs, or stay as close as possible! If you don't want any rubbing, you can go a little bigger in height, and stay with the same width (or slightly wider)...I've had Nitto's for a long time, my dad runs them on his 4runner! I love how quiet they are and capable for the offroading I do! But I know people love the BFG's and I haven't really searched for others, been on the Nitto's for years now!
If you aren't going to lift the truck and don't want to trim or cut, stay really close to the stock specs. Depending on the Nitto's you want, they will all have a different number, but you can go up in size less than .5'' for height or width so basically the same size and be fine!
I have a 2019 Tacoma SR 4WD and I'm planning to change the wheels & tires without lifting it up, and I wanted my tire to stick out about half an inch or an inch without any rubbing issue. Discount tire si giving me the option of Pro comp 69 Series with 16x8 -12offset with Falken A/T Tires 265/70/16, any thought on this?
If you stick with the stock tire specs, you will have rubbing on the cab mount possibly. That tire size looks like a 30.6'' tire from a quick search, not sure the width, but the rubbing should be minimal. I did the CMC and it allowed for so much more clearance, so you could do that and not lift the truck and fit a bigger tire on if you wanted to go that route. You're only moving the tire out 12 millimeters so it's not a crazy amount, but the tire size (width) is what would change it more.
I got a leveling kit on my tuck with a Fab Four bumper so im not worried about the bumper rubbing can I put 22s on my truck with a -10 or -20 offset with a low profile tire im gonna be on the road most of the time but I do tow regularly most of the time of 5500 to 6000 pounds once every 2 weeks what do u think how is the ride going to be I want more high speed driving also I got a 2018 sport Manuel transmission that's how I can tow heavy loads I got 75,000 miles on it now its doing fine I just change the oil and maintain it like factory would so it should last I got horrible rpm lag when shifting gears also was thinking of ov tune 2
You can certainly do that size wheel, but at -22, depending on how wide that tire is you will have rubbing behind the tire. The bumper is easy to fix. But I did the CMC to get more clearance behind the tire, so that will be something you'll have to look at. The stock Tacoma's have a pretty soft suspension and towing won't really affect that, but if you tow a lot, I would recommend getting add-a-leafs to keep the truck level and stiffer in the rear to accommodate the weight.
I have 2011 tacoma 4in lift im thinking of 285/70/17 what do u think ? . N how are nittos in the rain i got goodyear wrangler now n thet suck in the rain
I think the clearance might be a little different compared to the 3rd gen, but you should be good, maybe minor trimming. I love the nitto's, this is my 4th set I think between my 2nd and 3rd gen, I don't have any issues with them! Quiet on the road, great in the rain, and good for the offroading that I do!
What about us guys that want the skinny 255/85/r16 you research most Australian overland rigs they run skinnies FYI tall and narrow tires and down under they have been overlanding alot longer than we have .
I’m getting a 22 off road, will have Toyota 2/1 lift at dealer , Im in northern canada, already ordered 265/75/16 toyo gsi6 winter tires to put on stock wheel, for summer month maybe get a pro wheel and wildpeak tires , what would you recommend on wheel and tire size for best look and good mpg , help! Thanks
If you are looking for good mpg, stick with the stock tire size! Or go slightly taller with the same width so the tire doesn't weight much more. The pro wheels are definitely cool and I've seen a lot of people run the wild peaks. I've never had them, but they seem like a great tire!

Im looking at Rocktrix wheels, they are 17x9 with a -12 offset. With a 275/70/17 Ridge Grappler tire(32.2x11.0). Do think Ill have a rubbing issue with a -12 offset, but a smaller tire?
@@BrosFOURRSpeed thanks ur the man I been trying to figure tire and rim setups for about a month for my 21 taco I don't want 35s or anything to big that will possibly rub and destroy milage until I regear the thing. the truck stays on pavement 90% of the time except during hunting and camping seasons.
Hello all. I need some advice. I own a 2019 Toyota Tacoma sr5 and I want to get bigger and aggressive tires without any lift. I presently have 245/75R16. Any suggestions?
Good evening. I heard you say a 6” lift is too high. Is a 4” lift a good place to be? Would it let me run 33’s without rubbing and or trimming of the fenders? I also am looking for that aggressive stance but don’t want to hack my truck apart. Looking for a middle ground. Thanks.
I had a 6'' at one point on my 2nd gen tacoma and it just ruined the truck, but I've heard other people have no problems, that's just my opinion and experience. With most 4'' kits, I've seen you still have to cut the front crossmember, I did a 3'' lift with a top plate spacer and got about 3.5'' up front and 3 in the rear. I'm running 33's without any issues, just have to have the right tire/wheel offset for it to work without rubbing. My current setup with wheel spacers, I had to do the CMC and push in the fender liners. With an aggressive stance, expect some trimming (you can get away with minor trimming too).
I know I'm hella late on commenting so I hope you see this I have a 05 tacoma with 250/70r17 tires on it wondering if u can tell me the size? I think 30s and would it have to be lifted or are they on stock height? But my taco looks lifted. Previous owner didn't give me any info.
From a quick google search, looks like it's about 30.7'', and check the suspension on the truck to see if it's the stock suspension or if there's added components. But with that tire size it should be stock height.
Apparently stock TRD wheels are 16x7 +25 offset (5.0”). Looking at some charts, this lines up with your 17x9 wheels at 0. So would I have any rubbing if I stuck a set of 32x11’s on the stock wheels with a 3” lift?
I think you would be fine with that setup. If anything there might be slight slight rubbing behind the tire, but it would be very minimal but with an 11' wide tire, should be good!
If you don't want any rubbing 285's is a good size, like the ones I have on the truck in this video. The 2nd gens might not be as tall though so you might have some trimming but it really just depends on if you want to cut or not! I'm running 34x12.5 now and did the CMC and working on another alignment to get them dialed in!
Nice looking truck. I have a 2018 sr5. I don’t want to mess with my mileage. Can you please give me advice for bigger or better looking tires ? Don’t want to do a lift
These are the LT285/70R17, but what load index/speed rating is it? What load range are you using? Also what are the specs of the wheels you have? Would appreciate any help, quite new to TW, Thanks!!!
I honestly don't remember the load index but I want to say it was "E" if that sounds right. I don't worry about the speed rating as much since I hardly go above 70 mph. The wheels are 17x9 0 offset. Hope that helps!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed thanks for the help!! Also what is the model of those rims? Do you have size specs for them?? Loving the look and stance on your truck
Here's a link to the wheel page! Mine are 17x9 +10, rtxwheels.com/pages/search-result?type=Wheels&Year=2017&Make=Toyota&Model=Tacoma&SubModel=TRD%20Off-Road&Option=&page=1 The tires are 285/70/17 realtruck.com/p/nitto-ridge-grappler-tires/ I recently upgraded to 34's and a 17x9 0, but that requires more trimming!
I have a 2019 TRD Pro. I went up to a LT 265/75 R16 Duratrac that fit on the stock rim perfectly and doesn't rub anywhere so far. Its a little over an inch taller. Do you foresee a problem I haven't encountered yet in the 3 days they've been on?
I got a 2020 Tacoma. It’s the SR model v6 with tow package. I’m looking at 18’s with a 3” front 2” rear leveling kit. I’m trying to see what options. 18x9 0 offset is what I’m really looking at but as far as that. 8-10 ply tire and wanted to know tire size. Mainly used for daily driven and maybe dirt roads/ camping but that’s not all the time.
So my first setup was 18x9 0 offset as well and I was able to put a 33x12.5 tire on with very minimal rubbing, the tire was close to the UCA but didn't rub at all, so that was the biggest tire I could have put on with that setup. So you have room to go larger both in width and height.
Hey @BrosFOURRSpeed ! So I just purchased the American Truxx Gridlock AT1901 18x9 -12 offset wheels for my Tacoma; I also plan to install a 2.5-inch Eibach lift/leveling kit. What tire size do you think would be appropriate for these wheels without any rubbing issues? I am looking for the same look as yours; somewhat aggressive but not excessive. I also would be willing to switch the upper control arms if necessary but would love your input on that as well. Thank you!
That's sounds like a great offset, something I would like to get for my next setup. I just added some wheels spacers to mine just for the look and what I'd like to accomplish with my next setup, but I have 285/70/17 and I had to do the CMC and push in the fender liner. My tires are almost 33x11.5, so I wouldn't go bigger than that and you should be ok. I'm debating on getting another alignment done with my SPC UCA's because they have the adjustability to help and I haven't seen any videos to explain how much better they can help with rubbing.
I currently have the stock 16” wheels on my truck, with 265/75/R16 also stock suspension. I want thinking about getting a 33” tire. 295/75/R16 do you think that would cause any rubbing?
A 33'' tire would rub with the stock suspension, unless it's very narrow. You would need at least a leveling kit, if you didn't want a full lift. And I did re-gear, but it's not necessary. I found it helpful for the truck to actually use 6th gear on the highway now and that's about it! Definitely drives smoother!
Think this the tire size I’m aiming for with same OME suspension kit. Your wheel offset this set up was 0. Do you believe a wheel measure of 17x9.5; -18mm offset would have cause for a need to trim/chop?
So my current setup is 17x9 0 offset, with a 34x12.5 tire. I also have the 1.25'' wheel spacers on and don't have any rubbing. I have the CMC which helped and also a new alignment to push the tire forward, so it can be done with minimal trimming!
the setup of 17x9 - 285/70/17 that you had, was with the truck lifted or stock height ? please let me know i am about to jump on same size but dont want to lift it thank you in advance for your help
Bros FOURR Speed thanks for responding ! I currently have those tires with stock wheels stock height, very minimal rubbing on front liner when turning close to full lock, wondering if upgrading to rims 17x8 0 offset / same 285/70/18 will make a difference on the rubbing ? Can you give me your input ?
You should be able to! My last set was 32.8x12.5 with a 18x9 +10 and that was a big setup, but with my offset I had almost no rubbing. I'll be going to a 305/75/17 at some point but I know I'll have to trim a lot for that. What will be the offset on those wheels?
How do you determine backspacing on wheels when buying it? Does the offset determine the backspacing of the wheels? I was wondering if I get a wheel that is either 17X8 or 17x9 both being 0 offset I shouldn’t have a problem right? Sorry I’m new to all this thanks
A positive offset creates more backspace, while a negative offset reduces the backspace. The wheels in this video are 17x9 0 offset so exactly what you are looking at. I can't remember the backspacing, but I think it's 4.5, Anything under 4'' of backspacing I would shy away from, just a personal preference. What have you done to the truck so far?
@@LoLasdf691 I do have slight rubbing but only in reverse with it cranked hard, it did that on both of my setups, but I haven't trimmed at all....yet lol
What’s the biggest tire you can fit on the factory wheel on the 3rd gen Tacoma? Regardless of rubbing and what lift you should have, I just want to know the biggest size tire to fit on the factory 16in wheel...
If you don't want rubbing you'd need to stick to either slightly taller or slightly wider than the stock tire. You could throw on a 33x12.5 or even 35's on a 16'' wheel as long as the tire is rated for the width of the stock wheel. I believe for the Tacoma they are 16x7.5, and most larger tires I have seen require the wheel to be 8-10'' wide. So on the factory 16's you can go a little bigger if you aren't lifting the truck, but not by much unless you trim!
I did that myself! Check out the wrap video we made! Not much in vinyl and a few hours and you can knock that out! ua-cam.com/video/ZF99HDA7HSA/v-deo.html
I have a 19 trd off-road. I’m putting a 2.5 in OME lift. Do you think a set up like 17/7 Toyota pro rims with a 4mm offset would work with 285/70/17 Ridge Grapplers with no rubbing? The specs say that offset makes the rim stick out .9 inch away from truck.
Hi Mike - thank you for the videos . I have a 2021 tacoma SR5 4x4 . Do you think I can get away with 275/70/17 without lifting the truck ? What offset do I need ? Thank you
Quick google search shows that's a 32.2x11 tires. That should be very close to the stock tire size. If you stick with a positive offset like +10 you will be fine or even a "0", maybe -6. My tires now are 285/70/17 and I only really have scraping issues in reverse or offroad, not even to really tell sometimes though.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed I’m also wanting bigger tires on my truck for summer n winter use with no lift on a stock 2021 TRD sport 4x4. I have heard 265/75/17 with or so would hopefully give me no rubbing experience on the stock wheels. I’d mostly be commuting with minor off road atm. I want beefier than my stock 265/65/17 tires. I’d be going from a 30.56” tire to a 32.65” tire. It would be nice to use my nice looking stock wheels and beef up the tires,… but would I need a set of rims with a offset … I loosely read on taco works and UA-cam that a -4mm will work on a 275/75/17,… which is bigger… but the 32inch size and no rubbing is my desired goal for my first foray into modding my truck with bigger tires. Thanks for any input.
Great video but you’re wrong about the offset! Positive offset will bring the hub mounting surface closer to the outside lip and negative offset will push the mounting surface closer to the inside lip of the wheel.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed I think you just mixed it up the first time you said it and the other times you were correct haha but very informative video all around!
Good looking truck with the rims and tires 👌. My Tacoma is a 2016 also the same blazing blue. What brand name 🤔 and sizes are your tires and rims? My truck is stock now and i would like to go with your same setup. I'm planning on getting a 3 inch leveling kit.

Hi I have a 3/2 lift on my 2020 Tacoma TRD off rd looking for bigger tire. Truck is getting lifted Tuesday hate to buy tires then go to 17 inch rim What do you recommend? Thanks
I don't think it'll look funny, the stock wheels are 16 already, I decided to go back to 17's, but if you already have 16's and don't want to upgrade tires/wheels, that should be fine!
Are you planning on lifting the truck?? If not, the dimensions of the tire need to stay very close to stock. I'm not running a 34's tire on a 3'' lift, so it just depends on what look/function you are going for!
Nice video, helps me out a lot!! Wanted to get your input as I am ready to buy a set of wheel and tires. I am thinking 17x9 with -12 offset on rims and 285/70R17, no lift or leveling kit. I am not looking to do any off-roading, mainly looks. Going off your video, would this cause rubbing? I have a 2021 TRDOR tacoma.
So my current setup is 17x9 0 offset with with the same size tire as you. I added 1.25'' wheel spacer and needed to do the CMC and some other trimming. My guess with the -12 offset would be possibly some slight trimming. Without my spacers I was fine, and you would be poking out 12 mm farther, probably no CMC, but some plastic trimming if that!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed nice..plastic ok but cmc (probably hold off)..I kind of went off your video..I may back down the tire size to 275 or even 265 depending...but like you I want the best aggressive stance..while keeping close to stock

Would I have to cut anything or will it rub? Not really planning on off roading too much just for street ride. Thanks!
You should be pretty close without having to trim, but there may be some things to do. You may have to use a heat gun to push the inner fender liner out of the way behind the tires. If you are ok with that, it should work!
I'm running a 16x8 (-10mm) Black Rhino Bantam, with a 265/75R16 Falken Wildpeak M/T. Icon Stage 1 leveling kit. (front it set at 1¾ and sits 100% level)
Bros FOURR Speed thinking abt it. I’m hopefully getting a company vehicle soon, so if that happens and I don’t have to do 70 mile round trips everyday then I want to dress it up some. Mostly for show. I have a 1980 CJ7 that is my off-road rig.
Hi my friend, I have one question for you, I like to keep my truck with the factory specs, but I'd like to give it a more aggressive look, so in this vídeo you talk about 285 70 17 Wheels 17×9 6 to 8 plie , that sounds great to me, but do I need with this size of wheels to lift my truck, or not. I have third generation tacoma trd sport, 2017, wheels 17 stock.
With the setup I'm running, the 285's, I wouldn't be able to put those on a stock truck, unless you cut and trimmed a lot. If you want to stay closer to factory specs, maybe only go up in size just a little or just a little wider to avoid any rubbing.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed what setup wold you recommend for me on a 17 inches wheels or maybe I should switch to 18 inches wheels to get the aggressive look. What would you think.
Romualdo G. 265/70 R17 Ridge Grapplers. Get the 4 ply (115T) as they’re only 43.65 lbs each. This is the biggest tire you can get for a non lifted/trimmed Tacoma without rubbing. Also 17” wheels are the perfect size to have the off-road aggressive look while maintaining great off road and on road performance.
Depends on what you use it for most! My AT's are great or the daily driving I do, very quiet and comfortable and great for the offroading that I do! MT's are going to be louder, wear more since they are designed for offroad use more often.
You will most likely have rubbing on the back side of the wheel well, my next set will be 17x9 -12 and I'll have to do the CMC and maybe some fender trimming.
If you wanted to go to 33's, they would have to be a little narrower, probably around 11'' wide, if not just a bit bigger than the stock size would work!
I recently brought and install a new set of off road tires on my Tacoma, the problem is the drive is not smooth like it was before and the steering wheel is vibrating, try alignment and balance ,rotation 2 times and still doing so , what do you thing it may be? defective tires? or this is normal
The A arm goes up and down with the tire but they dont turn with them, lol. I think your offset explanation was backwards. For neg. You move the hub in and more wheel sticks out.
The tallest tire on stock TRD 17” wheels with no rubbing and no modification is the 255/75/17. You lose 10mm tire width but gain 0.45” to a 32.06” tire. However if you don’t mind some minor rubbing or minor trimming of your plastic fender skirts you can fit 275/70/17 gaining 10mm from stock width and height gain of 0.55” thus a 32.16” tire. Anything larger will require more trimming and eventually a cab mount chop. Good luck
Before I lifted my Tacoma I ran 265/75r16 cooper STT Pros and they fit fine without rubbing and they were a MT tire, with a all terrain you’d have a little more room
I know this late but I have a question. I’m looking to put 33s on my Tacoma. What size wheel do I go with? The 17x7.5 or the 16x7? Doing my research right now and need a little help. Your video was informative and I hope you keep them up.
Really depends on your preference for a 16 or 17. I went from the stock 16's to 18's and now have 17's. Also a wider wheel car hold a wider tire, so depends on how wide the tire is. Mine are 17x9 so I can have a 33x12.5 which a 7 or 7.5'' could not do. So if you go skinny that width would work.
Bros FOURR Speed that really helps me out a lot. I’ve been searching all across Google and UA-cam. I came across your video as one of the search results. Thank you so much and I really appreciate you answering back!!
I noticed your control arms. Sorry I didn’t sit through the entire vid because I was mainly wondering about those. They look like the SPCs am I correct? I have them but have not installed them yet. I’m really really hoping the spcs will allow no rub and no cut w/ 2-3” lift 2nd gen and 285/70r17 0 offset 4.97” backspacing.
Im getting new tires in a few days, u mention your next set u want more of a zggressive stance. What size, offset are u getting? And what is your current inch lift?
I want to go with 17x9 -12 and a 34x12.5 tire! I'll have to do some cutting for those! And I'm running an OME kit with about 4'' up front and 3.5'' in the rear! ua-cam.com/video/40s6Asn5zcs/v-deo.html
That shouldn't be a problem, the tire should be the same width and just slightly taller and the wheel center will be 10 millimeters farther than the stocks so that'll work!
I mighta been lied to. Les Shwab (local tire guys) told me I couldn't do 265/75 without a leveling kit because of the width. But the 75's were the only way I could get "10 ply" tires, which I need for lots of gravel roads. I just traded my 18 Taco off road for a 2021. Now wondering if I really need the leveling kit for 75 10 ply?
You should be able to fit that tire fine, If it's the same diameter and slightly wider you may have slight rubbing, but nothing crazy! You'd be surprised what size tires you can run! Currently I'm running 34's with a 3'' lift with no rubbing, so with the stock height, it's possible!
I never thought picking new tires would be this difficult 😭
I know right!! I'm almost at the perfect setup now running a 34'' tire, but still have wheel spacers so next up is the right wheel with a negative offset and I'll be set!
Well, i am glad i found your video.😅
Just got me a 3rd Gen Taco and have been searching for so long because i dont want to trim my truck at all. This video is very helpful, thanks!!
Glad to hear it was helpful!
Sounds like a great setup! I'd like to go to a negative offset soon!
Got any pics of your truck would love to see it with this setup!
That’s about the same setup I will be going with. I’m pretty confident with the plastic trimming but I’m worried about cab mount rubbing because I live above the rust belt and would rather not do the chop.
You’ve given me tons of info for my 2017 TRD sport Thanks a million
Awesome man! What have you done to it so far!?
so what are yours in this video ? I want the same setup but method 301 5:08 got it! ty!
;)
Great info here man. You’ve given the most info out of many vids I’ve watched. Appreciate your time.
I appreciate that! Glad you enjoyed it! What setup are you going with on your vehicle?
@@BrosFOURRSpeed absolutely. Just bought a 2018 TRD sport. Only 7k miles. Getting shipped here to Memphis from Fl in next few days. Has a 3 inch lift. Planning on doing your 0 offset with 33s. It has a topper as well I plan on selling.

On a stock Tacoma limited you can pull 275/65/R18 rough country at Les Schwab. At least that what I am running on my 22 limited.
What size is that? Been awhile since I’ve looked into this lol, sounds very close to stock.
I have a stock Tacoma SR5 2021 with 245/75r16 tires, what is the biggest tire I can safely use without trimming and changing my wheels?
Thanks!
Rob Tennant I think he meant 265 65 17

What’s the setup I want 33s to but I don’t want them to rub and I don’t want to cut anything
So my tires in this video are 285 70 17 and the wheel is 17x9 0 offset. With the lift I have....ua-cam.com/video/dcMd5BOT1pQ/v-deo.html... there wasn't any issues as I showed! I ran 255 75 17 on a stock 2015 other than +.85” 5100s with no issues with rubbing. Plenty of off road and around 55,000 miles on those tires.
Narrower is always better for fitting taller tires.
That's cool! I have 34x12.5 on mine now with zero rubbing, so I got a taller and wider tire with plenty of room for offroad!
Not always the case depending on what you want to trim :)
Im about to purchase a set of 16x8 Method NV 305 Bronze wheels and BFGoodrich T/A KO2 265/75/r16. I might go to Rimzone to get them installed. I'm not planning on lifting the truck so hopefully this works out with the stock height lol. I'm from mooresville

you said that the 285/70/17a were rubbing a little offroad, where were they rubbing?
Most of the rubbing was on the cab mount and sometimes on the frame (that can be fixed with a different offset), and a little on the front fender liner. I'm running 34's now with zero rubbing! So it's just a matter of getting the setup right!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed thanks, I just got a 21 and I am trying to figure out rims and tires for it, but it'sy daily driver so I have no me shot at getting it right
Ideas about my Tacoma SR 2019. Looking a wider wheels and tires?????
If the truck is completely stock with no lift, you will be limited in how wide you can go. You really can't unless you do some trimming or the cab mount chop. You could go wider if you keep the height the same, but it won't be much!

What you exact setup on the blue truck that you are talking around. I want that exact setup. Tire/wheel combo and whatever lift you have
Will 275/70R17 tires and kmc terra wheels -10 offset fit on my stock trd 4x off-road? Thanks
I believe that's very close to the stock tire size, and with a -10 offset you should be ok. There may be slight slight rubbing if any at all!
So I have 2021 trd pro with 265/70/16 looking at nitto what size would you suggest that would give a rubbing issue requiring a lift or cutting?
If you aren't going to lift the truck and don't want to trim or cut, stay really close to the stock specs. Depending on the Nitto's you want, they will all have a different number, but you can go up in size less than .5'' for height or width so basically the same size and be fine!
Hello I have a 2020 Tacoma can I use a 16” x 8” ‘ 0 off set , 6x139.7 bolt pattern 110 mm hub rims on my Tacoma
I like the look of your truck, but I like tall & skinny. My next tire will be stock wheels and 255/85/16 tires

@@BrosFOURRSpeed so is much better if I get 0 offset then right?
Do u think you can fit a 35x10.35x18 with no rubbing?
Possibly, depends on the offset of the wheel, but that could work.
I have the tag from my rim...it says
Size: 18x8.0
P.C.D: 6X139.7
Does any of that say what the offset is
I have 2011 tacoma 4in lift im thinking of 285/70/17 what do u think ?

@@modXELA I have a lift in this video, with the pro being taller then stock, it might work, you may have some trimming to do though, but not much.
I have a 2019 TRD Pro. I went up to a LT 265/75 R16 Duratrac that fit on the stock rim perfectly and doesn't rub anywhere so far. Its a little over an inch taller. Do you foresee a problem I haven't encountered yet in the 3 days they've been on?
looking to do the same.... does the truck notice the extra tire weight over stock on your first impressions?
Bros FOURR Speed I’m tryna to stay away from rubbing and trimming. 32 inch tires sound reasonable with18x9 +0?
Oh, and did you have to regear the diff
A 33'' tire would rub with the stock suspension, unless it's very narrow. You would need at least a leveling kit, if you didn't want a full lift. And I did re-gear, but it's not necessary. I found it helpful for the truck to actually use 6th gear on the highway now and that's about it! Definitely drives smoother!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed on stock wheels will it be the same? As long as the tires are narrow
Very good! I did not know that. Now I''ve got to see what I have on my truck.
Are you looking to lift the truck!? or get a more aggressive tire?
the setup of 17x9 - 285/70/17 that you had, was with the truck lifted or stock height ? please let me know i am about to jump on same size but dont want to lift it

I currently have those tires with stock wheels stock height, very minimal rubbing on front liner when turning close to full lock, wondering if upgrading to rims 17x8 0 offset / same 285/70/18 will make a difference on the rubbing ? Can you give me your input ?
Do you think I could run a 16x8, with a 305/70r16 which is a 32.8 by 12.2 wide? On a 3 inch lift
You should be able to! My last set was 32.8x12.5 with a 18x9 +10 and that was a big setup, but with my offset I had almost no rubbing. I'll be going to a 305/75/17 at some point but I know I'll have to trim a lot for that. What will be the offset on those wheels?
0 offset on the wheels, I might just play it safe and go 285
How do you determine backspacing on wheels when buying it? Does the offset determine the backspacing of the wheels? I was wondering if I get a wheel that is either 17X8 or 17x9 both being 0 offset I shouldn’t have a problem right? Sorry I’m new to all this thanks
A positive offset creates more backspace, while a negative offset reduces the backspace. The wheels in this video are 17x9 0 offset so exactly what you are looking at. I can't remember the backspacing, but I think it's 4.5, Anything under 4'' of backspacing I would shy away from, just a personal preference. What have you done to the truck so far?
Bros FOURR Speed I just have a 3/2 lift so now I need to figure out wheels and tires 33’s or like yours without rubbing or doing a cmc
Where did you get your door and bed graphic decals from ? They look great!
I did that myself! Check out the wrap video we made! Not much in vinyl and a few hours and you can knock that out! ua-cam.com/video/ZF99HDA7HSA/v-deo.html
Thank You
2015 Tacoma TRD access cab long bed 4.0 with 265/75r16's... perfect.... speedo is spot on !
I'm pretty sure that's the stock tire size right? If not it's very close!
Stock tires were 265/70r16's
@@CT-rf1jh I wouldn't expect the speed to change, that's a small difference in height.
That is correct, I figured I said it that way, but that is right!
I appreciate that, thanks! So the wheels are from RTX, I think these are the Canyons (17x9 +10), I have switched out the the Baja's now! And the tires are 285/70/17 Ridge Grapplers!
If I am doing a 3”front and 2”rear lift would 17x9 be okay?
Yeah! My current setup is a 17x9 0 offset with 34's! ua-cam.com/video/oOjCrOaDLBU/v-deo.html So any tire should work!
Please list out the wheel and tire size.

I did that! Have some videos on that process! It's helped a lot for onroad driving!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Does it exempt your warranty on your truck if you regear? I would think it would right?
@@ccsealcoating1st I would think it does, I don't have a warranty on it anymore, but not concerned with that, it's been great so far.

Hi I have a 3/2 lift on my 2020 Tacoma TRD off rd looking for bigger tire. I have 265/70r/16
Firestone said I should go 285/75/16 I don’t go off rd but look for looks will my truck look funny with 16 inch rims? Truck is getting lifted Tuesday hate to buy tires then go to 17 inch rim
What do you recommend?
Thanks
I don't think it'll look funny, the stock wheels are 16 already, I decided to go back to 17's, but if you already have 16's and don't want to upgrade tires/wheels, that should be fine!
Wont look funny, smaller wheel means thicker sidewall which looks great. Its also better for off road
Hi man do you have any tire recommendations for a 2019 TRD pro ? Thank you love the videos
Are you planning on lifting the truck?? If not, the dimensions of the tire need to stay very close to stock. I'm not running a 34's tire on a 3'' lift, so it just depends on what look/function you are going for!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed probably not lifting and sounds good thank you 🙏
@@jeremymuther8656 You can get a more aggressive tire but if you don’t want rubbing stay within the stock dimensions!!
@@vonglo4587 If you don't do any offroading, you should be able to just so some minor trimming!

@@vonglo4587 No problem!
Were you running all stock suspensions ? Or 3 inch?
3 inch leveling ?
This is a 3-4in lift.
Hi! Got a 2020 trd sport 4x4. Planning on installing the eibach stage 1 pro lift kit. Should be a 2in in the front and add a 1in. Rear block in the back. With 17in -10 offset wheels. 285/70/17 tires.
I went 285/70 on a 17x8.5 with 0 offset. Even a chunky tire like the ridge grappler won’t rub
I'm running 305/70/17's now on a ridge grappler and they rubbed until I got an alignment, just depends on the setup!
I'm running a 16x8 (-10mm) Black Rhino Bantam, with a 265/75R16 Falken Wildpeak M/T. Icon Stage 1 leveling kit. (front it set at 1¾ and sits 100% level)
Did you have needle bearing problems with lifting your truck? Also did you regear, if so what gear?
I did not have that issue with this truck. My 07, after doing a 6in lift, that did fail. Have not re geared yet. But I'm planning on it!
Bros FOURR Speed awesome man, thanks for the reply.
@@MrSmith223 No problem! You plan on lifting yours?
Bros FOURR Speed thinking abt it. I’m hopefully getting a company vehicle soon, so if that happens and I don’t have to do 70 mile round trips everyday then I want to dress it up some. Mostly for show. I have a 1980 CJ7 that is my off-road rig.
@@MrSmith223 Oh very cool! I'd love to get an older Tacoma one day as an offroad project!
Hi my friend, I have one question for you, I like to keep my truck with the factory specs, but I'd like to give it a more aggressive look, so in this vídeo you talk about 285 70 17
Wheels 17×9
6 to 8 plie , that sounds great to me, but do I need with this size of wheels to lift my truck, or not.
3.5 Rough Country Vertex lift w/ 285/75/16 Nitto Trail Grappler on my 2018 TRD
Sounds like a good setup on the Tacoma!
Should i go with at /mt or rt for my lifted tacoma
Depends on what you use it for most! My AT's are great or the daily driving I do, very quiet and comfortable and great for the offroading that I do! MT's are going to be louder, wear more since they are designed for offroad use more often.
Where did you get those finder covers.
Here's the video on that! I have a link in the description! ua-cam.com/video/GlR9Yomwfzw/v-deo.html

How about the handling? Same or getting bad?
I've never had any handling issues with these tires if that's what you are talking about.
Just bought a 2020 trd sport will 17x9 -11 rim work with 285x70 17? Fuel vapor rims?
You will most likely have rubbing on the back side of the wheel well, my next set will be 17x9 -12 and I'll have to do the CMC and maybe some fender trimming.
Awesome video man. Would you happen to know if 275/70/17 would fit on my Tacoma with a 2" Leveling kit on it?
You should be ok with that size, it's a little more narrow than mine, possibly have minor rubbing, but nothing crazy.
I’m running 2” suspension on my Tacoma, also I have TRD wheels, which tires can i use or upgrade ?
If you wanted to go to 33's, they would have to be a little narrower, probably around 11'' wide, if not just a bit bigger than the stock size would work!
I recently brought and install a new set of off road tires on my Tacoma, the problem is the drive is not smooth like it was before and the steering wheel is vibrating, try alignment and balance ,rotation 2 times and still doing so , what do you thing it may be? defective tires? or this is normal
Are you on stock suspension ?
The A arm goes up and down with the tire but they dont turn with them, lol. I think your offset explanation was backwards. For neg. You move the hub in and more wheel sticks out.
great video. so if i want to use my OEM wheels, what is the biggest size i can get? 285/70/17? 275/75/17? thank you! without no modification
Try to stick close to the OEM tire size at least in width if you want to go a bit larger in height. That way you don't have any or much rubbing.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed thanks for your advice.
Francisco Galicia No problem! Good luck with what you choose!
Good luck
265 75 16 stock works fine. .not sure where u get that info
Those aren't much different than the stocks, I had only mentioned the stock for the 16's, but those would work.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed they are a full inch larger I do believe
Before I lifted my Tacoma I ran 265/75r16 cooper STT Pros and they fit fine without rubbing and they were a MT tire, with a all terrain you’d have a little more room
Can I know what your wheels are and tires I don’t wanna be a copy cat but your set up is super dreamy

Great video, you think I can use 16x8 +0 with 265/75/16 stock suspension trd off road?
That shouldn't be a problem, the tire should be the same width and just slightly taller and the wheel center will be 10 millimeters farther than the stocks so that'll work!
Yes I have used that size no problem feels great compared to 245/75r16s I had
very informative. thanks~!
