One of the best ending piano ost of all times (and benoit ost also it's a gem) for me and one of the best games of both ps1 and ps2 era, i will always be in hope of a remake, even just a remaster
When I unlocked all S ranks I tought I was a pro games. Great game great Story they could do an animated movie to this game. One of my fav. Games for sure. Back in 2002...
Defo one of the cool features being able to play the levels back to get those missed echips and unlockable arcade characters. But boy oh boy, trying to get the S Rank was tough! Fair play to you for getting perfect ranking for all the levels! Just out of interest, can you recall the parameters for the ranking? I recall the residential level being one that I completed sooo many times only to get a B rank 😢
Loved the game when it came out. Sadly, the PAL version had a game breaking glitch that made it impossible to progress past level 11. Someone has found a workaround since then, but back then I had no idea it was possible so I ended up getting a refund for the game at the store where I bought it. I think this is the only time I ever encountered a game breaking bug in a playstation 1 game.
Best blind purchase I made as a kid. The back-of-the-box blurb said something about a smooth framerate and the screencaps were nice, and that got me to nab the game. Looking back at it, I think it was a real precursor to the character action game popularized from the PS2 era.
I found this game coincidentally in someone else’s house. He didn’t want to play it saying it has a strange mechanics. I picked it up and it was one of my favourite games ever! Brilliant review! I like how you showed the final boss fight lol I remember dying there so many times having no idea what I am supposed to do 😂
I bought this on a whim knowing nothing of it prior when I was a kid. I absolutely loved it and always remembered and regarded Silent Bomber as the best game no one I knew heard of
You aren't alone, one of my favourite ps1 games, my dad got me it down our local market from the guy that sold random playstation games for a few pounds - £10 which at the time was the price for most games
When I was young my uncle brought me a whole bunch of PS1 games from the UK when he visited us in South Africa. Silent Bomber was one of the games he brought and I played it all the time. Still can't believe to this day that only a small amount of people know about this gem
Might have been the few kids in Ireland that had this one. And I remember finishing it too, which means it either wasn't too difficult of an experience for a kid, or I enjoyed it enough to carry on through it in spite of the challenge. And that's more than I could say of Alien Resurrection or Alone in the Dark ANN. Those explosions are quite robust too, and the fire effects are very impressive for a PS1 game. Framerate looks solid too. EDIT: And I was just thinking in that tutorial area that he'd best be careful in an urban setting, because it takes one slip before he's pulling off a full-on war-crime... I do like it when the writers are ahead of me. Must give this another go.
Damn right VakantScull, this game is a quintessential hidden gem. (For some reason, UA-cam doesn’t like the title in the comments section because it gets automatically flagged) I also recommend Ghost in the Shell and Overboard! Those games may be up your alley too.
I still have this game somewhere in my house I think, I’ll have to download a rom of it and play it again since I’m half the world away from where I could look for it.
You should check out and review a PS1 game called Apocalypse. It's another hidden PS1 gem...and it stars Bruce Willis. Even with his name attached it seems not a lot of people know or remember the game. It was made by Neversoft before they got famous with the Tony Hawk series. Edit: sweet shirt btw!
I remember it. A friend bought it and I played it at his place so I didn't have to buy it. Reading this made me realize I still should have. Bruce is one of my favorite actors.
One of the few games that ends up on every single phone i've owned since PS1 emulation became a thing! Can't even start to think how many times I've completed it. Rented it from Blockbusters when it came out, and had it in my life since then! Now taking up residence on my Steamdeck and still love it!
Do you play the PS1 games on your phone directly? Or are there ways to mirror the screen to a bigger screen and hook up a USP playstation controller somehow?
I played this when it first released why back in the nineties, was absolutely hyped for it and it didn't let me down. Definitely a hidden gem that holds up well...apart from the voice acting
Your title is spot on. I got into .Hack// LATE w the awesome G.U. PS4 collection and beat all. Went back and got first 2 PS1 discs of the 4... but since I was liking them so much and found so unique-- I said I want to play the first few games from these CyberConnect dudes. Sure enough, Tail Concerto and Silent Bomber blew me away (oh look, a pun!) for never mentioned hidden fun as hell titles.
I used to love playing this game 20 years ago. Although I was never able to beat the final boss. It would always destroy me. Amazing game though and very underrated
“Utilizes every skill the game has thought you leading up to this point” -proceeds to blow up self But thats very relatable.haha I found out, planting 8bombs one hit kill most of the chess bots. Also planting 8bombs for the final boss made it 50% less challenging.
Absolute classic! I have never met someone in real life who has actually played it or even heard of it. It must have gone unnoticed due to RE3 and FF8's release in the same year.
I was in HMP Cardiff a good few years ago and a PS1 was going around the wing. I managed to get it in a deal. It has this game in amongst about a dozen. I'll always remember Silent Bomber. What a memorable game. The style, gameplay, the music, all very good. I got stuck on the last boss a few times. The screen turns all weird and I didn't know what was going on so couldn't get past it. Before the last boss you have to do these chess boards which are a chore.
Played this on a demo and had to buy it back in the day. Just fired up my old save file and it’s on mission 11 and I’ll have to start all over again because of the bug
If this game is so rare and underrated why is the eu pal vers still so cheap? It averages 10 to 25 british pounds, i bought for less 25 pounds but the us ntsc vers is like a 100 plus, is there something in the us vers dif from the pal vers? Edit: alright i saw at the end, the pal vers, many copies had a fault during production that forces the game to glitch at the start of 11th lvl cutscene, even some us vers have this but the pal one is the one that plagues it the most, some copies are good but are rare to find. Best solution is to skip the cutscene at the start to countinue.
Update: Turns out the re-release vers of this game, The White Label Edition does not have this glitch. So if you can find the white lavel vers cheaply, grab it as that one does not have the bug, i checked and confirmed it twice. i even have the save file to make sure it wasn't a one of thing.
In my opinion this game is better even than most modern games, it's ridiculously fun. Me and my best friend used to play it obsessively. And it has the most ironic title ever lol.
Awesome Video and thank you so much for reviewing this masterpiece :) I've played the game for countless hours, had the time of my life, only the final boss made me jump straight through puberty xD I tried to defeat him a few years ago but I still can't do it, his flyaway hair is just too powerful. Other Games i really like are: Ronin Blade aka Soul of the Samurai, Technomage: Return of Eternity, Shadow Madness, Jade Cocoon, Tecmos Dark Deception...
i'm here on the day this video came out and i am watching a review for a game i never heard of and i'm just wondering is this game region locked cause i never heard of this game before???
it is, but it was released in all territories so you should be able to find a copy where you live, highly recommend it if you like arcade action games!
@@Vakantscull i'm gonna write this down so i can see if i can find this game sometime. what other games do you have in your collection?? i have games like cardinal syn, blasto, syphon filter trilogy crash(of course) and a game called spider. i have a few more but i'm curious to know what else you have??

I've thought a lot about what a modern day reimagining of this game could be like, I've found nothing that plays quite like this - prefer it over doom or wolfenstein. Same for ape escape 1

I found out about the game from a Demo Disk from PS Magazine and immediately saved to get myself a copy. I love this game.
Me too.
I bought this on a whim knowing nothing of it prior when I was a kid. I absolutely loved it and always remembered and regarded Silent Bomber as the best game no one I knew heard of
Bought this when it first came out. Love this ps1 game. Thanks for showcasing it.

The giant Benoit can actually be easily avoided by air dashing to the left. Dashing against the hand causes the attack to whiff for some reason.
I'll remember that for the next playthrough!

it is criminally unheard of, hopefully this video can go some ways to helping it become more well known!
Wow guess a lot of live this life.. my uncle gave me his ps1 and bunch of games from tunisia and this was one of them. It was great!

yeah the voice acting isn't the best...I'd say on sbout the same level as the vampire hunter d ps1 game haha :)

so glad you made this video. This game was the best
One of the best game I ever had !!!! I love it … I found it weird how none had ever heard of it !!!
Same!
No one told me that Spec Ops: The Line was a sequal
This actually looks wicked fun. its almost like an anime bomber man but with "real people"
Okay but for real Benoit's theme slaps
Not littering the video with the benoit balls joke from archer was the most restraint I think Ive ever shown
Nice cant say iv seen this PS1 game before
90s sci fi anime 😂 i love it
yeah this is one of those obscure ones that really deserves more attention, heavily recommend a play, even if you have to emulate to do so!

What Chulk from Xenoblade Chronicles doin here? 😄 Main protagonist voiceover
Looks an ok game great review 😁

thanks, it's good to be active again! here's to making #vakantsucks a household hashtag by 2023! 🤣
It's true, I found this video by searching specifically for SB content.
It really is the most PS1 game ever made.
I agree
I played that game the Japanese version.. i hope there's a remake in ps 4
I'd happily take a remake or just straight re-release :)
Found this video in desperate attempt to find any sort of intimation of a Silent Bomber Port.
I wish there was 😭
I never finished this game, because glitch problems on emulator. SONY most own the game. PLEASE SONY and Nintendo buy Bandai. BANDAI on Nintendo. NAMCO on Playstation
