  • I build this quick and easy steel plate grill so we all can cook outside. Also a quick note: NEVER use your angle grinder without a guard like I did! It’s dangerous!

      its okay, all 'makers' are protected against harm by their own super power - arrogance. no need for sleeves to protect against welding uv burns or guards on grinders. I can't wait until one of these makers from the clique community get seriously injured one of these days. They're all a complete disaster when it comes to safety. rarely see a single one that I would let loose on a job site or on the shop floor.

      Sascha it's bits of disc in your face that you need to worry about. Those discs shatter every now and again.

    • @Spacepod7
      @Spacepod7 5 років тому +9

      Totally agree, the circle jig is such a good idea but without a guard I cringed watching it... cutoff discs like that shatter if you bind them in a cut and I can’t think of a better way to do so than a curved cut. The camera person is in danger here also with most of the angles they’re shooting from... I literally shattered a disc yesterday and only found 1/4 of it (don’t know where the rest went) and that was with a guard. I had two people standing near me working and without it they could have copped a fragment to the face or anywhere really... this is not an instance where the guard would be in the way and can’t see the reason for not having it...
      Great video and love your stuff Laura! I’m just worried about you 😫😘

    An axe is not a baseball bat. Hands should start apart and come together like many similarly handled tools. Don't let the axe blade touch the dirt, use a round of wood. An advanced user can twist the axe as it just enters the wood, blowing it apart with a combination of force and extra leverage while keeping the edge out of the ground even without a splitting block. There's even a video on UA-cam of a barefoot woman in a dress achieving this, granted using a double bit. For splitting you may want to consider a splitting axe or maul. Wedges are for big and tough rounds but can also be used to harvest certain long pieces of wood.

    • @AnttiNannimus1
      @AnttiNannimus1 5 років тому

      An advanced user can also use their axe to consistently light matches that are stuck upright into the top of the chopping block, so they can also chop twice (or as many times as necessary) into the same split line. Anybody who chops an axe into the dirt never had to chop firewood for their own cooking and heating. They probably also never had to sharpen that axe to a razor edge. Damn the kids these days!

    • @schmojo33
      @schmojo33 5 років тому +1

      @@AnttiNannimus1 That axe they were using probably didn't even come shipped with the final edge either but for splitting thats fine. However they probably never touched it or looked at it, nor know how to properly sharpen an axe. One can use the end grain of a splitting block as a field strop if leather isn't present to maintain a hair shaving edge longer during use if the steel is high quality.
