    An honest 10/10 video. I don’t need music and constant talking in my videos. Show me something worth my time like this guy has, and I can learn while being entertained.

      Very nice! I’m going to build an outdoor kitchen this summer. It will be made entirely of adobe. Have already over 90 9x7.5x3 bricks made all by hand. Using the clay soil and arroyo sand for the bricks. Will use your design or very similar. Good work!

    We all like to have some outdoor kitchens. In my old country, Paraguay, we call them "Quinchos". Just like you did. Built a BBQ place, a table and eventually a roof. Invite your family and friends to enjoy cooking and drinking some beers. Your video brought some memories of my old man and grandfather when we built our place. They would say: "Clean your tools, keep your working place clean and put them(tools) back from where you got them!" Now, I am almost 81 and trying to pass the same lessons to my grandkids here in Australia. Cheers.

      @@blackspruce1861 , and you do it right! I love that you grill the buns and use some of the grease off of the meat to kind of fry the buns! Thats my favorite way to do it. Makes them so much more flavorful. I used to own a BBQ /Hamburger restaurant back in the late 70's- early eighties....called The Brown Derby, in Lindale Texas. I miss those days...but not the long hours. I'd smoke the brisket, etc on Sundays....the day we were closed....but still needed to work and get ready for the coming week. Took all day on the huge smoker.

As a woman that enjoys building my own farmhouse wood furniture (my boys do all the building. I do the instructing 😂 They do an awesome job and they’re just teenagers.) I used to find myself more attached to stuff until i learned how to make it myself - now I think 'even if i lose X, i didn't lose the skill i learned to build it'. I had to move recently and leave a lot of stuff behind and the stuff I made was the easiest to let go of because it was a result of skill I STILL had rather than the result of $ i paid which I'd have to re earn to rebuy.

    Great job on the build. If I could offer just a bit of advice though. Get some fire mortar and use it on the inside to coat The Brick. It's too late in the process to use fire brick but the fire mortar may help save your bricks from cracking. Again, great job on the build

      Anyone that comes outside of their comfort zone to try to create/build something we should have respect for ( I know I certainly do) It's saddening to see that some not all, will make every attempt to suck the joy out of another's efforts to create something out of their hearts desires. Please, please, please, keep commentaries respectful. I enjoyed your video and admired that you created such a kitchen..please enjoy it to the fullest ..The burgers look very delicious.. The secret to cooking on a griddle is to create several heat zones. For your setup that can be accomplished by where you place the coals under the griddle and how many.
    I would also suggest a 3/16 inch metal tray to put your charcoal or wood in. This will make cleanup a lot easier and the most important thing is it'll prevent your cement blocks from cracking.
    The blocks that you have chosen are not heat resistant and are susceptible to cracking and falling apart from high heat.
    Just my thoughts.

    This is great, thanks! I ended last year (literally - signed the papers on the 30th of December) by buying four acres of land. However, we do not have anywhere near enough money yet to actually move there (like, even if I could build a house myself, it'll be a while before we can afford the raw materials), and so I've been thinking about smaller things we can do to enjoy our land in the meantime. An outdoor kitchen was definitely something on my mind, but I was thinking of doing something much more primitive - literally just a stack of bricks. This is inspiring me to do more. That having been said, when you started cooking your burger... let's just say that watching that, in the coldest days of February, with the earliest good weather for outdoor cooking being months away, that produced some mixed emotions ;).

No thats actually a knife I built . back when he was making knives he asked me if I wanted to start a knife shop together and it sounded great so I started making knives too and I really enjoy it . we didn't end up doing that because I think it was Brooke that wisely reminded us that going into business with family or friends can potentially ruin that family or friendship . and I think that was really good call I wasn't ready at the time . But yeah it's one of mine all the knives I've used in my videos are ones I've made . I think I'm going to make some kind of chiefs knife for more cooking videos. well hey thanks again and I'm happy you're going for it on your cabin very cool.

    What a cool project! I’m curious how the chimney worked out. Where you able to get a draft pulling the smoke through? Oh yeah, that burger looked amazing.

    • @blackspruce1861
      @blackspruce1861  2 роки тому +10

      Thanks! . yes it does work . when you are getting the fire going without the griddle on top it does nothing , but when you set the griddle over the fir it starts to draw . I do think it would draw a little better if I would have had it even one block higher though . still it does keep a lot of the smoke out of your face . oh yeah it was a good burger for sure

      Awesome !! Tennessee is such a nice state . I've gone down there a few times for whitewater kayaking ,and keep thinking it would be nice to build a little cabin down there to dodge our winters . I'm glad you liked the video . one thing you might want to change is to line the fire boxes with fire brick . it will help the block hold up from the heat a lot longer . and use refractory mortar for the blocks in the firebox area , the bottom stays cool and doesn't need anything special . mine's still holding up fine but over time would last longer with those improvements .
