I am 74yrs old and knitted since I was 10yrs old but wanted to learn how to crochet. This beanie hat was my first attempt and your guidance was fantastic and so easy to follow. I am now crocheting my second beanie for a friend’s daughter. Thank you so much. bJulia (from England).
I'm a teen who had been struggling to find a really nice a thorough beginners video on making a beanie hat, thank you so very much. I can't express how hard it is trying to find someone to simplify something I thought was out of my league. Reading the comments in your videos has also given me so much hope for youth to crochet, its an amazing art. I can't wait to make more beanies and give them to my sister who recently found a love for them.
You are the best ty for making this vid I just started crocheting and it is very easy but some times it is hard and I thought if I watch this video and make a beanie then I could sell it at school for like 5$ for ever one who buys them
500 lbs of beanies??? Did I really read that right? My goodness how long did it take you to make that many hats? I'm just shocked and wondering also how many beanies did 500lbs make????? You're better than me, I would've gotten completely Bored making the same exact thing! CONGRATULATIONS ON THAT HUGE SUCCESS! UNREAL.......
WOW! That's incredible! A nursery? so...you know how to make these in a child's size? I'd like to make some for kids too but I ahve no idea how to adjust sizes.
Thanks for this! My family is going through a hard time, and my mom was torn up over not being sure if there would be anything under the tree. Well my yarn, hook, and your video will be sure to give her quite the suprise!
Thank you for this video. I am a 67 yo male, my Wife is the crocheter in the Family. Since I have been a spinner for 40+ years I just had to try this. I have crocheted rugs, throws, scarves and blankets from my spun wool but this beanie was my first time for something like this. Came out just fine thanks to your video.
Wanted to learn how to crochet beanies for cancer patients and yours was the "best" video. For a beginner like me, your instructions were great! Just finished my first beanie and on to the next.
Hi Crystal Thank you for this tutorial for the beanie. This is the 1st hat that I tried. Just finished my 1st one. I actually did the backwards stitch and it wasn't too bad to do. I'm a beginner at crocheting. Thank you so much I so much appreciate it. I have been checking you out I made a couple of your blankets. I'm going to try your red pull over next. Have a good day.😘🧶💜
Thank you! I have a friend going through chemo who needed a beanie. I'm also making some for him to take to MD Anderson Cancer center to give out. Thanks again. Great instructions.
I make these for sick children at Ronald mcdonals hospital and shrawls and scarfs to go with them.. thanks so much. Puts a beautiful smile on the kids faces 😍 ❤️ 😊 ☺️ 💕 😀
Just followed this tutorial and for my first time I’m a little messy but I still love it. Going to keep practicing until my hat looks like this one! Thank you so much!
First time doing reverse stitch and I love it. I used red heart with love and did one less increase row. Came out perfect and I’m ready to make another one. Thanks for being such a great teacher. I pray that the hearts and mind of everyone affected by bullying whether personal or towards a loved one will be healed through your labor of love as you make these hats 🧢.
My aunt wants me to make her a hat, but I’ve never crocheted one before. I went searching for a simple hat pattern, and I’m definitely going to try this out! I wanted a pattern that didn’t include front or back post stitches, because I can’t get the hang of them, so this is perfect!
I love that this is so simple. My mother asked me for a simple, nothing fancy beanie. No frills. It took me a while to find yours but I did and she will love it.
This is crazy! About 2 hours ago I went out shopping with no real purpose. I was in a discount store and stumbled upon some gorgeous blue yarn and picked up the only hook they had, a 6 mm. All of a sudden I'm here 😂🤯
I love how you remember to let more experienced crocheters know if they will be bored to tears, or if the pattern has enough going on to keep everyone happy. So often I start a cute patter
This is the first tutorial I watched and project I completed. I gave it to my son, and I’ve made several Christmas gifts instead of buying them. I’ve been using crochet as a mindfulness exercise to help with stress accumulated at school and work. Thank you for sparking a positive and creative coping strategy for me!
I just finished my first Beanie, and now you have a new title - Goddess Crochet Guru. What's best about this for me is that this is perfect as the Beanie I've always wanted that rests next my ears as long as I only crochet 9 rounds - I love it!! For me, 9 rounds, but when I make a bunch for charity I'll do 12 and 13 rounds. Thank You! 🎶🌟🎉🍷🧶
Oh my word Crystal. I made this in no time & I love it so much. I live in an Independent Adult Facility & most of the elderly have no way to get out to buy their grandkids & great grandkids Christmas gifts & I thought of making a s**t load of these in different colors so they’ll have something to give them. I love this simple video & especially the edging.❤
This was the first tutorial that showed up when I googled how to make crochet beanies and it was so easy to follow! I really appreciate how it is shown in real time unlike most other tutorials that skip a lot. 10/10 TUTORIAL!!
I DID IT!!!! I’m literally making hats without looking:)!!! This is such a big day for me. My husband is a teacher and I’ve made so many hats and the kids of his classes loved them and I’m getting orders:). Thank you Crystal.🥰
By the way thanks for all your great tutorials, I always go straight to your projects. Taught my friend how to crochet and she made your long sweater with a cape hood. It looks great her first project. I was so proud of her, but I’ve done it without you.
Thank you for this tutorial, it was so simple!! I tried another tutorial before I found yours that was supposed to also be easy, but not so. I was a bit discouraged until I watched you, and now I have made three beanies!! You are a fantastic teacher!!
I have visited other tutorials but I come back to you again and again. You are so concise, clear and move along without rushing. You show each stitch so well. Thank you so much.
I like it because I AM a beginner, and you don't take forever telling us how to make it. You are clear and not confusing at all, which is a huge plus for me. So far, I've had great success with lapghans & afghans, but now I need to make something else and this is perfect! Thanks!! 🎶🧶🎉
Just learned how to make this today. It was so easy to make and my favorite was the reverse single crochet. Now on to make the scarf for it. I am doing this to donate to people in need of them. Thank you so much!!!
Thank you so very much. I appreciated your input and directions. I used a bigger hook, because I have this student on my bus who has very thick hair. And as a bus driver I always give my students a little something for Christmas and I decided to use up all my yarn this year, I am making some scarfs but learning to crochet this hat is a blessing ❤❤❤
I am so sorry. Bullying has no age. I am sick to my stomach when I think of all the bullying that goes on in our world each and everyday. If we can reach just 1 person through this cause we did good. If we can reach the many and stop this and I know that is wishful thinking. Then we all did our job as humans coming together. May God keep you in his grace. 💙
@Liz Hess I'm so sorry you were bullied. I was too and at 58, the memories still come back. I'm going to go to Walmart and buy some blue yarn and get started 💙💙💙🙏💙💙💙
Dear Crystal, I really appreciate the close ups you provide and for working through your struggles for us to see. It makes the process 'real' and relatable.
Thank you!! You are an amazing teacher, I m notorious for skipping and adding stitches so it’s a life saver for me that you tell us how many stitches we need to have at the end of each row, and the reverse stitch is new to me I like it! Thank you my hat came out perfect!!
I've been crocheting for a few years but my projects just fall apart. but this one I will be making alot of beanies for my grandchildren and anyone in need. I can wear my own beanies. I'm so happy with myself. Thanks I have alot of yarn. my family always get me yarn to keep me busy. now I can return the love. thanks thanks thanks
Thank you so much for taking the time to drop us a tutorial. I've now made my 2nd one using blended coloured yarn and I donate them to our churches Xmas children ( shoe boxes with gifts for children from 0 to 15 years in 3rd world countries). So I call it, Crocheting with Purpose ❤
Very well explained and not confusing like many other videos I’ve watched. The ch 1 at the start of the row helps, rather than ch 2. Also very clear photography. I’m now onto row 8 and excited to see how this turns out. Thanks so much!
I have a special needs daughter that got a crocheted hat just like this one with a flower on the side. She loved it since she could just wear her hair down with the hat on. I tried this hat tonight and it turned out beautifully! I will figure out a simiple flower and attach it! She will get one in every color! Thank you so much for your tutorial!
Newbie crochet lady here. I’ve been practicing stitches and just getting the feel for it. I’ve been looking for a good video that shows how to crochet a beanie for the beginners and this one is great! I appreciate your work and sharing! I am going to work on my first beanie using your video. Again, great job and thank you!
I can’t thank you enough for this video! I have stage 4 breast cancer, and for earlier stages, losing your hair is horrible, so I have been making these for our infusion center.
amazing pattern! Thank you so so much for telling us how many stitches we would have at the end of every round :') I think that's one of the most helpful things.
I just finished this beanie and it looks great! You are a wonderful teacher!!! Thank you so much for clearly explaining all the stitches and all the rows. I did have a problem with the border but, that was because of my skill level - not because of your explanation. I did 3 rows of SC back loop only in a contrasting color. I can't thank you enough for sharing your knowledge and wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your expertise. 🙏❤
I just made this and it's gorgeous. Really easy to follow. I found out on row 7 I was using a smaller hook! LOL but no worries just had to crochet a few more rows to make it longer. Love the pattern thanks Crystal 💖!
I was watching this Beanie hat from the time I started practicing Beanie hats for babies. I finally got to look at the video and I found it to be so explanatory. I needed to have patience and it is fun to crochet. I only have trouble with the basic such as starting with the circle of 4 stitches and a slip knot. Once I conquer this circle I'll be on my way to crocheting this Beanie hat that I like so much. I hope I get the same color and Alize yarn. Thank u for your time and teaching.
Hats are what I make the most. I’ve made like 20 hats. I taught myself. But I forgot how to start the round because of my seizures. And because I haven’t made any hats in over a year. It also helps because your hands hold the yarn exactly as my does. Thank You.
Thank you for this! I started crocheting last week and wanted a new, slightly more difficult project, and this is great! Very clear instructions and easy for this beginner to follow!
Tq v much for yr kind n patient teaching on how to crochet By hearing yr voice u r a v kindhearted person May God bless u I am a 77 yrs old Malaysian lady fr Penang ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you Crystal! My hat worked up so fast! I added a few stripes and just used 2 rows of sc at the bottom. It comes up slightly bigger than I expected but it's for a Man so that may be for the best! I'm going to start making these as gifts for family, and to give to homeless people for the winter. You're so good at explaining and your camera angles are on point- in other videos it can be really hard to see which stitch they're going into.
Thank you for this video... I’ve just recently gotten back into creating things. I learned how to do a basic single crochet stitch when I was a child but never had to the resources to actually make anything. I actually haven’t been “creative” in 4+ years. After leaving high school, starting college late, dropping out of college, struggling financially and being depressed in general, nothing has excited me the last few years. I recently learned to embroider. Then to knit. Then I returned to crochet. My boyfriend wants a hat for his birthday. This is the first video I saw and it’s what I attempted as my first EVER complete cohesive crochet project. It’s detailed and easy to follow, anything that’s ambiguous is easy to figure out. I loved the first hat so so so much I made in for myself, but with more length for a baggy beanie look, and a different color. It’s going to be my go to. I will be making at least two more of these for gifts for family. It’s been a very long time since I’ve been able to sit and focus on a craft. Even though I’ve gotten back to crafting, this hat is the one that made me feel alive in my crafting again. Like maybe I’m making something that someone will love as much as I do. Maybe I’m making something worth while. So thank you for this simple hat tutorial. Stay safe and keep doing your thing
I can't thank you enough Crystal, I am so pleased with myself! I am making hats for the colder months for the people I serve, as a front-line support worker. The people I serve are having a rough time & I have always wanted to do this;..I am so excited (:
Thank you Crystal! My goal for this hatsnothate project is to make each of your hats in blue. If I finish them all I will go to other UA-camrs designs, but yours are by far my favorites.
I am so happy! I was having so much trouble trying to make a beanie that I was ready to give up on beanies all together. Then I saw one on your Facebook page and it led me to this video and I gave it a try. The first time I got to row 13 I felt that there was something wrong. The hat was too wide. I checked out the stitches and realized that there were a few rows with two stitches where there should have been only one. I had to frog my hat all the way back to row 5 and carefully continue from there. I finally finished the hat and just love it. I am going to make more for family and friends. When I get this one down pat I'll find another one of your patterns to make. Thank you, Crystal, for the encouragement this beanie has given me to make others.
When you're done, if you don't want to do the border for a quick ruffle hat you can go around the bottom and put five double crochets in each stitch around and than do one double crochet in each stitch for two rounds so three rounds all together. And than I single crochet at the very end for a border. Reminds me of like an old school granny hat.
Best video for beginners. Learning how to crochet in the round, increase as well as crocheting a hat. I can't thank you enough. I have been intimidated learning to crochet in the round.
Omg I was excited to make this beanie and first one today followed along and now on my third one. So thank you girl. See whats next for me and my crocheting adventure...💖
I made my first hat today with this tutorial!! Thank you!!! I've been wanting to learn, but was scared it was too hard. Thanks to you, now I can do it!!!
Thanks for this, I am a male into Civil Engineering and never done any kind of crochet work in my earlier life.. But for the first time I have reached by chrochet from chain to first circle chrochet from your video..... Felling blessed.. God bless you for this work. I am from.India.....❤
I could finally make the full hat as per your instruction. Off course with few mistakes . But it has come out great and I am feeling proud of myself only because of you. May God bring in more happiness chains in your life. You made me happy. Thanks again.
Just used your video as my very first ever crochet project. A few moments of frustration but with a little perseverance I’ve just finished this and my toddler absolutely loves her new hat just in time for the cold weather. Thanks
Just finished my first adult sized crochet beanie thanks to this tutorial. I'm new to crocheting in the round, so I appreciate this tutorial very much. Thank you Crystal!
Thank you crystal I do alot for assisted living (care home for disabled but they can still have as much as a normal life) and I know alot of guys who don't have anyone so I try to make lap blankets and scarf's now trying these but I do wraps ect for ladies so they don't feel alone x
I tried to make this hat about 5 times and now I finally made an actual hat THANK YOU SO MUCH I LOVE THIS tutorial so much I’m just dumb that’s why it took so many tries
My friend wants me to make her a wolf ear beanie, but I could never make the magic circle, and I never seen anyone make a circle like that before, thank you so much for not using a magic circle, otherwise I’d be stuck here for days! 😂
Omg! Thank so much 1st video i could follow and acually get results. I even got the reverse stitch. Took a few tries. For folks having problems make sure that your hook points down into the stitch. When you pull through and complete the single stitch it will create the loop stitch as in the video. If not you end up with like a normal looking stitch. Hopes that help any one else who got stuck.
As a cancer survivor of 35 years, I can say that beanies and blankets offer much to a cold, bald head. Additionally, the blanket gives you something to hold onto. Thank you to Crystal and all who engage in these selfless acts. It means so much. 💜✝️💜
I've tried many different videos & they get confusing for beginner's but you did it!! Very new to crotcheting & i have now made my first beanie! Thank you thank you thank you!
I love this tutorial because it doesn't use the magic circle. When I tried a different tutorial it was using the magic circle and I couldn't figure it out and got upset. I found this and was happy to find out it was easy and without the magic circle technique. Thank you!
This is one of the best beanie tutorials I've found so far. Thank you very much. I tried a tutorial with the magic ring and sadly it came apart. It seems like others have had the same problem too. So it's great to see an alternative to the magic ring. I plan to donate a black beanie and a few scarves soon. Thank you for this video.
Thank u crystal I love ur hats I'm making this for one of my residents,I'm a CNA at a nursing home & I have a lady who had brain surgery & they removed half of her skull but everything we put on won't stay so my admin asked if I would make her a hat. Thanks to u I've made lots of them hats. Ur awesome
Me two... Onto the third. While I'm fresh on diladuid. I brought one skein of deep teal yarn to crochet one of those hats. I crocheted two other hats using very colorful Premier anti pilling Everyday yarn. I LOVE reverse SC, all thanks to you! ❤️
I am 74yrs old and knitted since I was 10yrs old but wanted to learn how to crochet. This beanie hat was my first attempt and your guidance was fantastic and so easy to follow. I am now crocheting my second beanie for a friend’s daughter. Thank you so much. bJulia (from England).
so cute best of wishes on your golden days even though im not the creator
have a wonderful day

Thank you so much!! I’ve been winging it since I started! This last year in total I donated 500 lbs of hats to my local crisis nursery!
God bless you❤️

I liked it
A year later...are you still crocheting?
2 years later…are you still crocheting?
My first crochet hat in the round that didn't turn out like crap. I love your tutorials. Thanks so much for an easy pattern and a cute edge
I love how you remember to let more experienced crocheters know if they will be bored to tears, or if the pattern has enough going on to keep everyone happy. So often I start a cute patter
This is one of the easiest videos Ive ever followed and now I'm obsessed on making beanies for everyone in my family

hi i am 9 years old i am a begginer and this turned out amazing it only took 2 days to finish
heyyy did u continue making things ? did u get better ?
I was wondering the same, have you continued your crochet journey?
Please don't reveal your age online if you're a minor. It's great that you're taking up crochet, but there are creeps and stuff out there. Just saying
Hello I will get 27 in month sept I did one for my grandmother it took me 15 min and am a beginner maybe a little bit more😂
That is great I hope you keep crocheting and Crystal's such a good teacher
I did it!!! I followed. Paused and did the steps.. this was my very first project!!! I'm so proud.
Thank you.

I found your tutorial this morning and already made 3 (almost finished with my fourth), beanies! Thank you so much for this easy tutorial!
I just made it for my nephew in ombre grey red heart yarn. Actually made two of your tutorial hats for him. Thank you for the tutorials.
LindaJean House, love you!
Been looking for simple beanie to make for my grandson who lost hiar to chemo. Thank you, thank you, thank you. This beanie I know he'll wear!!
I love this pattern. I made 10 hats and donated to an organization who helps the homeless ✝️❤️
I made my first hat today with this tutorial!! Thank you!!! I've been wanting to learn, but was scared it was too hard. Thanks to you, now I can do it!!!
Omg I made this last night super easy. I made two beanies last night. You have awesome tutorials and explain so perfect.

I am a male into Civil Engineering and never done any kind of crochet work in my earlier life..
Just finished one! Plan on turning many more out for donation, this was so HELPFUL!! Thank you, i love the way mine turned out
Just used your video as my very first ever crochet project.
I’m a total beginner, never held a hook before and I was able to complete this hat!!! Great instructions and very easy to do! Thank you!
I have learned a new stitch: the reverse sc. I always learn something new watching your channel Crystal. Thank you again!
p.s. reverse sc also called the "crab stitch"
Thank you, Crystal! I just made my first beanie. I have never been able to figure it out before. I even did the fancy last row. Best teacher ever 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Wow such simple tutorial. First time I really crochet something without getting confused. Great teaching skills.
I found blue yarn on clearance at Michael’s. This looks like the perfect pattern for hatnothate use of the yarn. Thank you.
Thank you crystal I do alot for assisted living (care home for disabled but they can still have as much as a normal life) and I know alot of guys who don't have anyone so I try to make lap blankets and scarf's now trying these but I do wraps ect for ladies so they don't feel alone x
I love your tutorials! You explain it so well & i love how you spread the yarn & show right where the hook goes..It helps newbies so much.
After many many attempts of making a hat I found your videos and you made it so so so easy to learn I just finished my hat!!!! Thank you
NICE FOR MY MIDDLE-AGED SONS ESPECIALLY IN WINTER!!! THIS WAS EASY. THANK YOU AGAIN!!! NOT SHOUTING I DON'T SEE WELL. 💞💕👍
It's been over 40 years since I've crochet. Thanks. I will start this month for next year's donations.
Honestly one of the best simple beanie tutorials! Super easy to follow along and everything is explained really well. Thank you so much!
Your tutorial truly guarantees success. Thanks for being crystal clear (voice & technique). You are amazingly awesome!
Just finished 10 of these to be given to the homeless next winter.....and I'm not stopping now😁. I've made some with stripes and all with pompoms.
As a cancer survivor of 35 years, I can say that beanies and blankets offer much to a cold, bald head. Additionally, the blanket gives you something to hold onto.
Thank you to Crystal and all who engage in these selfless acts. It means so much. 💜✝️💜
relatable
I've tried many different videos & they get confusing for beginner's but you did it!! Very new to crotcheting & i have now made my first beanie! Thank you thank you thank you!
Thank you Crystal for this tutorial. I just crochet my first hat, I usually use the loom I have but I wanted to crochet one. You're awesome.
I love this tutorial because it doesn't use the magic circle. When I tried a different tutorial it was using the magic circle and I couldn't figure it out and got upset. I found this and was happy to find out it was easy and without the magic circle technique. Thank you!
Thank you.. I'm not a fan of the magic circle either, I never use it 😊
Thank you Crystal ~ this is just what I needed for hatnothate. I also love the yarn color you used.
Just made my very first beanie! 😄Thank you so much for the step-by-step instruction!
Thank u crystal I love ur hats I'm making this for one of my residents,I'm a CNA at a nursing home & I have a lady who had brain surgery & they removed half of her skull but everything we put on won't stay so my admin asked if I would make her a hat. I love your tag!!!! Very cool!
I'm working on the blue hats also for hat not hate. Only on my 2nd one. I'm so glad I had blue yarn.😁

I couldn't get the hang of the reverse sc so I did a border of enhanced sc which looks really nice!
This is the best tutorial that I’ve listened to and I have watched many. I crochet for charity and this has been most helpful. Thanks!
🥰 The reverse stitch is new to me. I like the look, thank you❣️
