I would love to see ram bring a 7.0ltr “426” hemi to the heavy duty line up. It could bring a lot more power to the power wagon without the weight of a diesel
They could put the Helliphant in it that's a modern 426 Hemi that's super charged & makes 1000 HP & over 900ftlbs of torque on pump gas . The engine uses the superstock block heads crank rods & pistons so it can take a healthy beating plus it comes with the computer opened up so you can custom tune the engine your self with a laptop & not having to send the ECM in to either have it flashed or a custom tune put into it !
Pete Loomis I’ve seen it and that sounds awesome! But they would also need the larger gasser to be compatible for the non pw ram hd. And tuned that high it wouldn’t last at all. Maybe if they had it tuned to 500hp and 550trq

Thank you Andre for actually measuring the ground clearance that matters! The minimum ground clearance. The ram is advertised as having 13 inches of ground clearance (obviously measured from highest point). Meanwhile the minimum from the rear diff is a paltry 8 inches. What a joke!
You can get a Power Wagon new right now with all the needed off road goodies but none of the fluff for $47,225. That is the best deal on a dedicated off roader anywhere. You can get a minivan motored Rubicon Gladiator or Wrangler for a few thousand less, but step up to the Ecodiesel and it's $2000 more. The ZR2 Diesel Colorado is $500 more but smaller and no winch. The AT4 even without the diesel and still lacking front lockers and a winch with the most basic possible options except the off road performance package is $9000 more.
I have a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon for serious off roading. A heavy duty truck is more for towing than anything else, so the GMC is the one that fills that need hands down.
Add the same tire/wheel size from the at4 to the powerwagon probably make but the rear diff height difference. At4 near 9.5 and wagon at 8 1/4. That extra inch makes 9 1/4 maybe load rating of tires would have it sitting 9.5 to 9.5 maybe
I found you guys through a video of the different Ford engines... now I own an F150 with the 5.0 I watch the videos because they're well produced. Nice work and consistently great content.
I do like that the Ram HD crew cabs are 149" wheel base. Thats not huge. To put that into perspective, my 2014 F150 Supercrew with a 6.5' bed is a 157" WB. And now that GM and Ram have gone to bigger cabs in their 1500's, even those are bigger.
My vote goes to the one that has the mechanical transfer case lever. Power Wagon. Loved that skid plate view and comparison. That should be a part of all of your off road reviews.
If we're talking some real off-roading, it's the Power Wagon all day for me. Having front and rear lockers on the Power Wagon just makes a massive difference. I'm not a fan of that G80 auto locker that GM just won't go away from. The Power Wagon also gets you solid axles, disconnecting sway bar, and that factory Warn winch. I hope you put them up against each other on a hairy off-road trail.
I just seen video of same Power Wagon with 12" screen, same seats final asking price 64, they got it for 53, they all probably have about 10k down at the end of the year
For offroad power wagon for sure....softer suspension and more offroad features....lighter weight, shorter wheelbase.....easy choice...... For towing it's GMC...powerwagon is basically a 1500 in terms of towing
Next week we compare the power Wagon to a D9 cat which can out-Tow the Ram by 48 tons, but the D9 has no radio, tires or steering wheel, but 1200 more HP, so we subtracted 4 points from the Ram, let's see if the Ram can compare...why compare disel with non diesel???? Am I missing something here?

REALLY wish you guys would also point out that you can get the AT4 in a 3500 SRW and quote it's payload and towing capacity. Also I still don't understand why they classify the Power Wagon as an HD truck, most if not all 1500's have better payload and towing capabilities.
Its the same platform as all the RAM 2500's with different springs and radius arms. You want extreme articulation or do you want payload? Physics are a bitch.
When it comes to off roading the tried and true solid axle wins. Ps those are Dana 60s. I am a hummer owner to this day and I will go with a power wagon.
It's WAAAYYY more than a winch that makes the Power Wagon much better off road, and cameras don't have much to do with it either. Door length has little to do with interior space. Measure seat back n dash thickness as well as seat travel too.
Only the Dodge has that option & the reason why is if you off road it disconnecting the sway bar in the front allows better articulation of the suspension which in some instances will keep the tire on ground or surface which allows better traction !
Glad to see this segment heating up. I would like to see a comparison with these two and the Ford Tremor, Toyota Tundra TRD, and Nissan Titan XD Pro 4X.
I’ve got the AT4 which is NOT as good off-road as my buddy’s power wagon so a bit disappointed cause this isn’t an apples to apples comparison! The AT4’s come with optional 6.6 gasoline motors which is what YOU should’ve compared the Ram 6.4 Hemi to. Rather than comparing the LOADED OUT AT4 diesel to a not fully loaded out gasoline powered Power Wagon. Also, the longer wheel base is horrible for any off-roading which really is a marketing ploy on GM’s part. If you really want to know which is the best HD Off-road capable truck look no further than the over lander club, Ram Power Wagons are without a doubt The Top Choice.
I have never had good luck with Rancho shocks, they have always leaked and caused cupping for me. Not sure why GM uses them as their selling point on an "off road" suspension.
ok, You should make sure the tire sizes are the same or at least mention what the sizes are, I'm still a G.M. Guy. I think you do a good job of demonstrating the trucks.
It looks like there was quite a bit of wear on the Dodge probably accounting for lower tie right. I will use the configurator to see what the GMC comes out to with a gas engine.
The Raptor is a class above these two trucks. Although they are both nice trucks, if I wanted a straight off-road truck It would be straight to a Raptor. And I own a 2019 Ram 1500.
Auto 4wd is not a unique HD feature. It's been around for years in the 1500s and SUVs as well as the HDs. It's a great feature in my opinion and gets used regularly every winter.
It’s approach angle not approach height, having both these vehicles living in the mountains the Ram wins all the time off road, just depends on your main focus is. @@killdizzle I guess, my 19 poweragon has a 1600lb payload rating and seems to be able to do more without a problem. Just yesterday I pulled 7 tons of 1" clear stone in a 14 foot dump trailer and it handled it just fine. You gotta remember that the regular 2500 gassers are rated to pull some 18,000lbs. @@WilliamStewart1 if the only objective is playing in the rocks, most people would choose a smaller vehicle, like a Wrangler, or a RZR. You can't just measure the "Chin" in regards to how high it is off the ground and give points based on that alone. When it comes to approach Angle, obviously you have to measure a Triangle which means also measuring the distance from that low point to the front of the tire also. Also, since you were talking about Ground Clearance, you need to find the lowest overall point on the bottom of the truck and that Chin of the Front Bumper obviously wasn't it, especially for the GMC which is sporting a very low exhaust in the rear.
Greg Kittle Mexico's factory complex is larger than the one in Warren, Michigan. Let the oil cowboys buy these first and then we get them for 40k in 2 years.
J Smith plenty of people can afford them, particularly anybody in the upper middle class. It really comes down to priorities.
@Yo Dad actually I do have money to pay cash for it, it's just not my priority. I am not trying to brag about my education or my income, but what I am saying is that I'm far from alone. No matter what you millennials want to say the country is not full peasants, there are plenty of us who make enough to buy nice things in life. If a nice new truck makes somebody happy and they can afford it then let them be, it's none of your business just because you don't have their level of income.
@@scoobtay You don't want anything thats been in the oil patch.
Love both trucks but I am true to GM! Dodge kicks ass even if it's a gas engine, hoping they make it in a diesel option so it could be a better comparison though. Really like your guys videos, keep up the good work!
Historically, Power Wagons are only Gas powered.
You can get a Cummins with the power wagon package. Pretty sure it’s a regular power wagon but without the winch
David Lynch that’s not a power wagon, it’s just a 2500 with a package. Just because a Scat Pack has the 6.4, doesn’t make it a “SRT 392”
David Lynch You cannot get a diesel in the Power Wagon.
Jl Bush like I said, “ you can get a normal Cummins and get the power wagon package.”
Not sure I would want it. It’s hard enough getting my 6.4 up my driveway without eating it up.
I like when Andre is alone doing these objective reviews and comparisons. When he's with the other guys, he's too corny and almost brown nosing. Keep him alone, he's more down to earth and real.
Yeah but when he's alone he also measures grills and badges.
Love the hat Andre. The powerwagon needs 35inch Duratracs.
It seems to be the most done thing to the trucks for owners. I get it hurts fuel mileage, but that's more less irrelevant with these trucks.
@@WilliamStewart1 I have Toyo open country MT 35"s and am getting about 12 mpg and you're right pretty much Irrelevant whats not mentioned here is I can stick 37 underneath mine and still get full lock on the steering there is no way that's true for the GMC
Life long Chevy guy here. But I'm buying the PowerWagon come next November.
Thank you Andre for actually measuring the ground clearance that matters! The minimum ground clearance. The ram is advertised as having 13 inches of ground clearance (obviously measured from highest point). Meanwhile the minimum from the rear diff is a paltry 8 inches. What a joke!
More power wagons might be sold if there was a diesel option but personally, I don't mind using a gasoline engine. It still gets the job done.
Match up is missing the black Tremor,,I know Ford said January .🇺🇸
TFL has a Tremor though they're just not allowed to talk about it.
@@thawk1435 yep till January ,
@@thawk1435 they are allowed to measure it.
Eagerly awaiting the three way comparison of the AT4, Powerwagon and Tremor.
The GMC is an “off road” truck, the Ram IS an off road truck. AT4 should be compared to a Ram 2500 diesel with the off road package.
The Ram had less ground clearance. So much for being a real off road truck.
I'm going to the Ram website now to "build" one. And......NO! You can't get the selectable lockers and disconnect-able sway bar with a diesel.
@@rezridez1 The Ram had 33's and the AT4 had 34's. If the Ram went to 34's, it would gain 1/2" of ground clearance under the diff (8.75").
@@karlschauff7989 ya he measured the rams 33 out to be 31 vs at4s 34s that measured out to 33
GMC with 6.6 gasser and throw a winch on it, sold!
I found you guys through a video of the different Ford engines... now I own an F150 with the 5.0
I watch the videos because they're well produced.
You guys need to rename this video “best looking off-road truck”..... measuring grills and logos.... really
What real world advantage does the AT4 package have over a standard GMC for off road?
"Potential is interesting... Performance is everything."
I just seen video of same Power Wagon with 12" screen, same seats final asking price 64, they got it for 53, they all probably have about 10k down at the end of the year
Ground clearance at the differential is usually due to the tire size. Put the larger tires on the PW and clearance would be the same
Crazy guy! TFL GETS WEIRDER by the day!
For offroad power wagon for sure....softer suspension and more offroad features....lighter weight, shorter wheelbase.....easy choice......
For towing it's GMC...powerwagon is basically a 1500 in terms of towing
Benefits GM you can get a AT4 in Diesel.
PWagon Ram fans always wanted a Cummins option. Hope they add it
As nice as they both are, I can't afford either...So I'll stay with my 73 Scout II.
Gm all day for me, but I do like front solid axle and winch both nice trucks
Who gives ANDRE thumbs down!!!!???? Sac religious!! Even if I don’t share the same opinion (rare) TFL’s crew gets me the info I want in a fun format. I hope Santa wife brings me a TFL hoodie! Happy Thanksgiving all!!🦃🦃
What is Sac Religious? Is that like a church in Sacramento?
Yeah who gives a Russian with cowboy boots a thumb down??? You the man Andre! I had a chance to meet him in person and he’s a really good dude.
Hell yeah
I care more about visibility down the hood to obstacles and parking than the big grill points.. so o jectively prefer the ram hood headlight setups to GMC, even if I like the looks of GMC front grill.
Dana 60s on what?
Solid axles and a big badge. All you need.
@@donleamon8653 ram power wagon :)
@@dchawk81 yup hehe
It's WAAAYYY more than a winch that makes the Power Wagon much better off road, and cameras don't have much to do with it either. Door length has little to do with interior space. Measure seat back n dash thickness as well as seat travel too.
Power Wagon is still the king. For an off road HD truck you cant beat it. Oh, and how much more for the GMC....
More tech = more problems. Power wagon definitely wins in my book
Why would you " disconnect the front sway bar" on the Dodge? Or are you doing that on both?
Only the Dodge has that option & the reason why is if you off road it disconnecting the sway bar in the front allows better articulation of the suspension which in some instances will keep the tire on ground or surface which allows better traction !
When comparing a payload and towing capacity. You can’t test a diesel versus a gas engine. Of course the diesel is gonna pull more.
*At least they will have a bunch of electronics to keep them entertained while they wait for the tow truck 😂*
It doesn’t matter
It’s all on the driver
Glad to see this segment heating up. I would like to see a comparison with these two and the Ford Tremor, Toyota Tundra TRD, and Nissan Titan XD Pro 4X.
You can get the Duratrac on the GMC! If you get the 18” rim
*used to be the top choice
Always liked that handsome handle bar mustache of the ram though great job Andre, also love the hat and happy thanksgiving 🦃
I have never had good luck with Rancho shocks, they have always leaked and caused cupping for me. Not sure why GM uses them as their selling point on an "off road" suspension.
Awful shocks. Bilsteins are more expensive, but are definitely superior. Likely outdone only by the latest FOX designs.
Putting a Metal tape measure on the door of a 65k-70k truck 🤔
I’m sure that will buff out.
Who cares he's just trying to show the specs and make a point. But these are off road trucks anyway, not some show trucks, quit crying.
That was the most informational review I’ve ever seen!
ok, You should make sure the tire sizes are the same or at least mention what the sizes are, I'm still a G.M. Guy. I think you do a good job of demonstrating the trucks.
It looks like there was quite a bit of wear on the Dodge probably accounting for lower tie right. I will use the configurator to see what the GMC comes out to with a gas engine.
Ram HD and Ford Superduty will always beat GM HD trucks off-road due to the straight front axle. Ford owns half ton off-road action with the Raptor.
The Raptor is a class above these two trucks. Although they are both nice trucks, if I wanted a straight off-road truck It would be straight to a Raptor.
And I own a 2019 Ram 1500.
Would be cool if you guys got an overland trailer and took the offroad trucks up cliffhanger while towing the trailer.
Auto 4wd is not a unique HD feature. It's been around for years in the 1500s and SUVs as well as the HDs. It's a great feature in my opinion and gets used regularly every winter.
Currently, the 2020 GM heavy duty trucks are the only once with Auto 4x4 feature. Ford and Ram HD do not have it.
It’s approach angle not approach height, having both these vehicles living in the mountains the Ram wins all the time off road, just depends on your main focus is. On a separate note I feel bad for my sister who bought the 2022 Silverado 2500 diesel she has put 5000 miles on and is getting 9.5-10 mpg.
Only if she is towing max or she has big problems - mine gets ~23 mpg hwy / 15 mpg city unloaded and 13 mpg towing
@@Encourageable they tried telling her it was because its not broken in, she bought it with 2 miles on it and now has 5,000 getting that mileage, just had it looked and and they say nothing is wrong but still getting the same mileage, breaking it in wont make that big of a difference. She hasn't towed anything yet, ought it to tow her built Jeep to MOAB and other places but the trips had been cancelled so far so its mainly around town.
15:00 There are sedans that have 1100 lbs payload.
there are no sedans with sway disconnect bar system
Motortrend tested them and said they could comfortably do double what the power wagon was rated 4. It also destroyed the gas gm hd's in towing and payload despite being rated for less.
@@ggqbc The same motortrend that couldn't set up a Dyno..... Twice! Please. The truck is rated at what it is. What they think and what's legal are two different things.

"While Americans can’t seem to get enough of the mid-size pickups from Japanese automakers, they absolutely shun their full-size trucks. According to data from WardsIntelligence, the highest market share Toyota has seen with Tundra was 9.1% and that was in 2007. It currently hovers in the 5% range. It’s even worse for Nissan. The best the Titan was able to muster was 3.5% of the market in 2005. Today it’s at 1.5%. With the Detroit Three commanding 94% of full-size pickup sales this year, it might almost make more sense for Toyota and Nissan to share a large truck platform." Autoline
Only if the AT4HD came with a Cummins and Eaton setup.....HEAVEN
CyberTruck has better ground clearance (16”), and better approach and departure angles than any of those gassers. Also adjustable air suspension with 8” travel, even in the base model ($40k)
Hey Guys awesome channels I love all of them! You guys are one of my all time favorite to watch. Keep em coming. I'm undecided in the 1/2 ton pickup and looking to buy in a month or so. In order I was thinking F150 FX4 (3.5 or 5.0-not liking the oil consumption issues plaguing it) RAM Rebel 5.7 (FCA product worries me) and last Chevy/GMC Trail Boss/AT4 6.2L Honestly what do you think is the most dependable one (besides Tundra) of the bunch? I'm in the Chicagoland are, retired Homeland Security. Thanks in advance.
Road racer Tanner Foust just did a 4x4 off road challenge with the ram rebel against a Toyota fj & a Range Rover & the rebel kicked both of these off road trucks asses in not only power but handling the rough stuff in sand rocks boulders & deep water crossings so maybe look it up on here !
Hi Andre I just want to know which truck of the big 3 would you buy if you had the $ for any of them base on planning on keeping vehicle for ever so is because it's reliable in motor, transmission. Safety, quality components interior/ exterior meaning you not going to be replacing parts that break easily or worn out prematurely. It's a one time huge investment. Mostly for towing a fithwheel traveling with family????
1,100 lbs payload is hard to understand. That barely competes in the midsize segment, let alone the HD segment.
Ryan rkj to put it In perspective a Honda Ridgeline has a higher payload capacity. I get Ram is focusing on off road with the PW. But there is no way in a hell a 3/4 ton truck should have a lower payload rating than a RIDGELINE!!!!!
@@GreenMountain565 It's because of what it can do offroad. No truck can touch the Power Wagons articulation, which is key when playing in the rocks.
I feel like Ram is just being conservative with the numbers for warranty purposes. You'd lose a bit of articulation but you can always just run normal 2500 rear springs with spacers.
@@WilliamStewart1 if the only objective is playing in the rocks, most people would choose a smaller vehicle, like a Wrangler, or a RZR. I feel like the point of an off road heavy duty truck, is to have more capacity to take things or people with you on your off pavement adventures. If you don't have the payload to take more people and more stuff, taking such a large vehicle off road seems pointless.
@@RyanRKJ I have a 19 PW, my payload is 1600. I think they got their numbers wrong at TFL. Also, articulation isn't only for rocks, it's good for getting over fallen trees and ditches.
Power Wagon still Champion
Proudly Made in Mexico 🇲🇽💪🏻
Sergio Vazquez assembly is being moved to Michigan.
Greg Kittle Mexico's factory complex is larger than the one in Warren, Michigan. It has more capacity and flexibility, here we make Ram 1500 Classic, and the entire Heavy Duty Ram line from 2500 to 5500, and it is rumored to be the next truck midsize of Ram will be built here in Mexico. I can tell you that there is no intention of taking more production to Michigan, that has already happened, they only obtained the new generation Ram 1500. Do not believe the lies of your president here we work with more quality and it is more profitable for FCA.

Stopped watching when you started measuring the badges and the grill. I usually love your vids, but come on...WTF?!?!
Ram and GM both use the same AAM 11.6 rear end...right? Still?
So different diff clearance should be subjective to tire diameter not suspension. So the AT4 must use a taller tire
You do a great job my man.
