    Stop asking for a diesel power wagon. I have a Cummins, you don't want a truck with 5,000 lbs over the front axle off-road. You also don't want a diesel that can only tow 10k pounds. It's limited to that by the soft suspension, "so put airbags on or stiffen the springs" ... Then you'll just have a sticker package with a rough ride, little flex and an on-road design. It would be nothing more than a sticker package with some lockers, like the AT4, like the Ford Tremor. The suspension capabilities of the Power Wagon is one of the defining features of it, combined with the unlocking sway bar, coil springs, locking diffs and winch make it far above and beyond these Ford or GMC competitors. You compromise any of those 4 things and you're going to have a disappointing on-road truck with a sticker package.

    7:22 To answer your question about where the Diesel for the power-wagon is... Putting a diesel in an off-road package truck is a terrible idea:
    1. Weight: Heavier on the front end makes it more likely to dip lower on obstacles (harder smacks) when the weight is shifting/bouncing over rocks. More likely to break ball joints, steering linkage, rims, and tires. Less balanced weight (more up front) makes it less stable on obstacles. The heavier engine also puts more weight up HIGH making it less stable off-road.
    2. Power band: Diesels put down power after spooling up a turbo. At low RPM this can take several seconds before delivering power, and several seconds to STOP delivering power after lifting the pedal. This is VERY BAD for offroad driving. A good ole fashion naturally aspirated small block V8 has way more instantaneous torque available at idle-1500RPM than a diesel, and the ability to quench that power output instantly by closing a throttle plate. For driving technical offroad situations that is FAR SUPERIOR. For yanking someone out of a ditch or rocking yourself out of a ditch, the NA Gas engine is a better solution all day long. Turbo Diesel's are much better suited to highway towing applications where their STEADY STATE CONTINUOUS BROADBAND POWER delivery is far superior (especially at elevation). On a trail, there is nothing "steady" about the power requirements or the power delivery of a diesel. The choice to keep a traditional gas engine in the Power Wagon demonstrates competence on Dodge's part. Ford would be smart to offer their new 7.4L gaser in an HD off-road edition, NOT the powerstroke.

  • @DeltaSierra426
    @DeltaSierra426 5 років тому

    @Matt France - Nailed it. Engineering is VERY complex and well-thought-out these days on American pick-up trucks. Throwing the 6.7L Cummins in the Power Wagon changes its formula end-to-end. The Power Wagon simply needs an optional supercharged 6.4L Hemi or upcoming 7.0L Hemi V8. Yes, mileage will suffer compared to a diesel option as well as max tow, but the Power Wagon is a true off-roader, unlike the Trail Boss and AT4 which are just marginally off-road enhanced trucks.
    In smaller off-roaders where towing, cooling, and other heavy-duty beef isn't needed, light diesels make a lot of sense for their low-end torque and efficiency, where only a few hundred extra pounds of engine mass doesn't kill front suspension capabilities.

Why do you think that the solid front axle on the Dog is better than the IFS GM trucks when it comes to off-road situations? There are countless vehicles out there with IFS and/or 4 wheel independent suspension set ups that not only keep up with solid axle vehicles, but even exceed their capabilities, in both in stock form and heavily modified.

    No, it’s an Allison tuned/upgraded. It’s the Ford/GM co-developed 10 speed that’s had an Allison clutch pack and input and tail shaft upgrades. It has nothing to do with branding, they just took an already strong trans and made it a bit stronger.

    I traded in a 2016 GMC 3500 dually diesel for a 2020 GMC AT4. The visibility from inside this truck is much better than my old truck and I'm glad they lost the front air dam and raised the DEF tank. I see they have the cargo capacity on your video as 3862 lbs. Not sure how that vehicle is equipped but mine with the diesel and 4WD is only rated for 2400 lbs. Disappointing while looking at truck campers. Overall I really like the truck but that overhead camera is a little discerning. I feel like I'm being watched. Where does that view come from?

    Gm, please, PLEASE, stop making the front bumpers 4 inches off the ground. Anyone that buys a truck does NOT care about that extra 0.0002 mpg you get by having an air dam that scrapes the ground. First thing I did when I got my truck was pull that off and cut the tabs off, my wrx had better front bumper clearance then my z71. And anyone who has had a 2014 wrx knows what I’m talking about.

Without the 20 inch wheel option the overall diameter on the At4 is only 33.2 inches. I cant get a long box with the Tremor package so my only option is the GMC At4 if I want my long box. William Todd my 2017 F-150 has the FX4 package and it’s a good amount taller than the 2wd variant. Also it has skid plates, e locking diff, hill descent control, 18” wheels, and off road tuned shocks. I’ve driven a loaner 2wd and it rides completely different. The 2wd was much stiffer and offered better highway stability but sucked on crappy bumpy roads in comparison to my truck.
