@Jack njones Not wanting to get into a gas engine debate. Original reply was meant to point out that the comparison is not valid since they compared a diesel truck to a gas truck in vastly different trims. Compare two gas trims for fucks sake. Extra bonus if they are at least close in trim level. These two trucks may as well be from different planets from a comparison standpoint.

Correction: the Ford DOES have a locking rear differential, it comes standard with a Tremor or FX4 package. You pull on the 4-wheel drive knob and it locks the rear diff (there's literally a diagram of it right next to the knob). It's a real locker, not a limited slip. #TheMoreYouKnow

It seems like the tremor only finished second based on price. The platinum I priced out was $73k. All that tech with trail control and cameras is on my tremor that I ordered for $60k. As for rock crawling the approach departure breakover on the big trucks will stop the trail far before the need of a sway disconnect.

I have a 7.3 Tremor. Best truck I have ever had. Great off road, great towing, great payload. Got a good deal on it. No need to pay the diesel premium. MPG is a little lacking, but you don’t buy a big truck like this, with MPG in mind. Buy a Prius if that is your motivation. I paid a lot less than even a Power Wagon, which is really what I was in the market for. So with the 7.3 Tremor, you get comparable off road performance, yet more towing and more payload, for less money. At least I did. And you don’t need a Platinum. I got the XLT, and it is plenty nice. If you want to upgrade it, you can buy the parts online for a lot less than you would get them from the factory. I installed the tailgate damper, leather steering wheel, and forward facing camera for about $1000. What more do you need? Heck, you don’t even need those things. I keep up with my buddy’s Raptor no problem. Even make it over stuff he scraps on, because the Tremor has a ton of ground clearance. At less than $4000 for the Tremor option, it is worth it. Especially since everything is under warranty. Once the warranty is up, I will probably upgrade the suspension. For those that wonder I am getting around 16 mpg highway, and 11.5 mpg around town.

Any 4Wheeler worth their salt knows weight is an enemy off road, in the mud, soft areas, steep hills. All the wheeling you guys didn't do would show the fault of a heavy diesel engine. The power wagon engineers were right not to offer a diesel option. Off road you need a soft compliant suspension(including articulation) with true 4 wheel traction and easy to modulate power(the gas engines have more than enough)

I just bought a new 4X4 in May 2024 and I agonized over the decision: Gas or diesel, Power Wagon, Tremor or AT4. I quickly ruled the diesel out, not because of the extra cost but because a buddy of mine who owns a 2019 Powerstroke went to a lot of hassle to delete the DPF, DEF, and EGR. He told me of nightmare scenarios where diesel owners were paying huge sums of money for new DPF's when the old one eventually clogs and the hassle of keeping the DEF tank full. So the diesel was a no-go, at least for me. So the next decision was which truck? I had read about nightmares Ford owners were having with the panorama roof leaking and failing so that kind of turned me off Ford. I've never much been a GM fan, especially they whored themselves out to Obama after the bail-out. I have owned two Rams previously: a Power Wagon and a 2X4 Laramie, both very nice trucks and very dependable so Power Wagon it was for their of road capability and adequate towing ability. My off-grid travel trailer fully loaded is only 5,200 lbs with a tongue weight of 450 lbs so it's a breeze for the PW to tow. This was my decision process, yours may be different but I couldn't be happy with what I have.

Should’ve compared a tremor in the same price range. If price is the problem. The new Godzilla 7.3 is great and brings you closer to the ram price. if it came to price or hell just go with a raptor. If you are getting a 2500 or f250 the size problem get a 250 that is shorter length wise. But if you are buying a HD truck you are buying it for Heavy duty use not solely for off road. As far as I seen the 250 did the same stuff in different ways and can still tow 3 cars

Sadly, I'm leaving the Ram family and looking into buying a Ford F350 Tremor now. I wish I could stay in the Ram family but Ram is really behind in the HD off-road segment. Is the Power Wagon awesome? It sure is, as long as you trailer it to the trail and/or don't need to carry much of anything, even passengers. Seriously, my Ram 1500 has a 1700 lb payload. The F350 I'm looking at getting should have around 3700lbs payload, be able to tow a 20k lb fifth wheel or 15k lb conventional trailer. Really, really love Ram trucks. I do, I've owned Ram trucks for... gosh, 20+ years now. Bought my son a 2500HD with the cummins and a standard trans for his graduation present. I'm gonna get so much ish from the whole entire family... but Ram, you failed me, your customer. Yikes man, Ford took away a life long customer, or is about to -- not because they made the best, but because y'all didn't even show up to play. I want to be able to use the same truck I haul my camper, boat, tractor, etc with to load down with at least 1k of gear and go road trip, take a few buddies hunting. Can you imagine being like, hey -- y'all can't load those deer in here, we'd be over payload. Seriously... wow, just an honest to goodness, wow. Don't get me wrong, I think the Power Wagon is awesome at what it does. The Tremor is, to be blunt, not the same thing. It's apples and oranges and I need an orange and Ram, for whatever reason, doesn't even make a dang orange. Ah well, here in a few months it'll be done and that'll probably be the end of my relationship with Ram products -- I'm old and will likely die owning this next truck.

Both are quality trucks. However the PW is a purpose built truck. Please tell me what the Tremor's additional torque, over the PW, does for off roading? Now if you want to tow then just get a regular 2500 or 250. You can still go off road in both of those, just not to the same degree. Which again is why, if you want a HD for max off road, get a purpose built truck like the PW.

Granted you won't be as stable, but you can tow your tow hauler then have fun with your toys, and truck.

If I’m not mistaken, on the 6.7 diesel, I believe the HP/torque at the wheels is less than advertised, per dyno test on another channel. Essentially, for off-roading, you’re carrying too much weight for the “at wheel” performance. Now, tune the suspension and maybe the 6.7 gearing and you’d have more of a high speed Baja truck… such as the Super Baja. Since I don’t tow much, focusing on hauling, in conjunction with light off roading, I opted for the 7.3 Tremor. It’s light and nimble (compared to the diesel) and does what I need it to do very nicely.
Now, I keep my trucks for around ten years. Dodge can’t hang with longevity.

If you are serious about off roading, the Power Wagon is the way to go. If you are a casual off roader who still needs/wants to tow a lot, the Tremor is probably the better pick. I have a Power Wagon and upgraded the tires to 35x12.5 r17 which fit on the factory rims with no rubbing even at max articulation. You can fit 37x12.5 r17 tires if you go with a "slimmer" tire and run a rim with a certain offset/backspacing with no rub at all. This can be done on the stock suspension. $1400 and I have the same size tires as the Tremor including a full size off road spare which fits under the bed plus far more off road equipment such as a front locker and disconnecting front sway bar. The Power Wagon's axle flex, even with a connected sway bar, is superior to the Tremor's and has a better RTI score as a result. Disconnected it's in a whole different league. How much would it cost for a Tremor owner to add a front selectable locker, install a disconnecting front sway bar, wire it, and improve axle flex for both axles? Al ot more than $1400.

If it was my personal money I'd get the Ford with the diesel because I'm not going to flexing out a stock truck. Get 2 or 3 more inches of lift, 37's, and with the winch and limited slip it'll do anything I can imagine doing with an 80k truck. I have trucks and buggies for off-roading. I've heard the argument well what if you can't afford to build a truck or buggy, free advice:if you can't afford to build a decent off-road truck, Jeep, buggy, any one or all three, you can't afford a new truck.
