I just purchased this same truck, except carbon black. I have owned two other GMC HD diesel 3500 trucks with both the LML and L5P diesel engines. This new 2020 just blows me away, it is a completely different truck. I got $10K off list price from Dennis Dillion GMC in Boise, ID. They price these trucks to drawn in the out-of-state buyer. I went with the 2500 this time because they are more comfortable to drive. Everyone keeps talking about how big it is, it is bigger but for a HD truck --- it is the right size now. The older GM HD trucks did not look like HD trucks IMO. Just pulled the Trigger. 10 speed transmission, Technology package, lift and shocks and towing numbers are my reasons. Turns out on a 735 mile trip thru fog, freezing rain and then a snow blizzard the vehicle mileage total was 23.2 miles per gallon or 10.1 liters per 100 km. There were times that I saw 9.5. If diesel were cheaper (or even as gas) for price per litre I'd be laughing but getting that with this truck is amazing. My 2016 1500 Silverado LTZ(5.3) never saw that mileage although I'd expected to see it. And pulling my 29' Jayco it (LTZ) got 7 miles per gallon in the hills of the Wisconsin Dells. This truck is amazing, I couldn't be happier.

Love my AT4! I Have had it about 2 months now and I definitely do not regret it. Pros: Ride quality is phenomenal! Tows great, I don't tow a lot of heavy stuff but do have a tandem trailer that I haul some ATVs around on and going from my wifes Jeep Cherokee to this was a night and day difference. I barely feel the trailer behind me. MPG is very surprising, I have gotten upwards of 24MPG at points Cons: The multi-function tailgate is nice but even with a 6 inch drop it can make contact with the hitch still once you stand on it and put pressure on the step. As the reviewer in the video states, adaptive cruise control would be nice. Like him in the Cherokee we have gotten used to using it when in traffic and it certainly helps make traffic a little less stressful. Interior is nice but RAM and Ford definitely have the better interiors. With that being said, I bought this truck for its capability and the 10-speed Allison. All in all its a great truck! @@garygill3294 I had heard the Denali was smoother but idk how it can be. I bought a new 2016 (dec 2015) ram 3500 drw aisin 4.10, your ike test helped me to that decision, and on the highway, the truck is fine, i only added the Pacbrake to it (made it way better), one thing that always upset me about that truck, was the turning radius, i tow large trailers (big tex 25du and moritz 22+10 hydraulic dove tail), I just ordered a 2020 f450 due to the turning radius, much better truck for what i do, in town towing and backing up. you guys should included turning radius on your golden hitch award.
One of the nicest spec trucks I’ve seen. When we bought our 2018 f150 I really came close to a GMC. The only thing that swayed me was the fact the F150 is aluminum and won’t rust two years in (not meant as a dig any steel body will) 👌
Devo you get a lot of bimetallic corrosion where aluminum meets steel. However it’s far less likely to corrode in a similar fashion to steel. I’m confident it will last longer. Time will tell.
@@nkyryry Yup 2 and a half years into owning an aluminum body F150 and can definitely say the rock chip corrosion compared to my 15 Chev is amazing. Up in Canada, they use salt on the roads in winter and it really messes with steel......literally half the year the roads are salted. My Chev literally had a bit of rust on every chip, something the F150 doesn't. So yes I'm happy with the aluminum body.
Just purchased a black AT4 HD with the Duramax. Not having adaptive cruise control is the only disappointment I have with this truck. It has all the technology for adaptive cruise control and not sure why they didn't follow through with it. maybe an update in the future will be coming to enable adaptive cruise control.
@@ktpinnacle Considering a lot of them can do the work it used to take several to do (Church on Sunday, Work on Monday) they really aren't. You don't have to spend 70k on a lux truck. You can get lower trim levels and spend less. They'll often do the same if not more. You're not entitled to live in the lap of luxury on the cheap. Nobody is.
Same here, I bought a 2019 GMC Sierra Denali 2500 with the new L5P Duramax. Very happy with the new Duramax, I'm curious how the 10 speed has changed towing and fuel economy. I'll have to wait a couple years, my 2019 is the second time I've bought the outgoing model as the new one came out. My previous pickup was a 2014 GMC Sierra 2500 with the LML Duramax, I just can't pass up the huge discount on the outgoing model. Saved over $15k off MSRP on both pickups.

@@jmart5302 That is really poor. Even my 1 ton gas GMC crew cab long bed can get 11.5 mpg city. If you're getting that in a diesel you're either idling too much or driving it too hard lol.
My problem is with these new trucks is I love all of the technology, but....I have an 02 F350 Powerstroke and everything works fine. I have a feeling any of the new trucks will be rolling bricks with all of the high tech stuff broken at 200k miles.
The newer trucks won't make 100k before you need costly repairs. Keep your Ford. It's cheaper to fix and most likely just as reliable. It's hard to spend 75k on something thats nothing more than a showpiece.
that is why I got the Tradesman trim level on my Ram 2500... I didn't want too much electronic crap to break down at some point... nor did I want to PAY for all of it.
@@randallsmith7124 that's a good truck. I agree with less things to break makes for an overall better experience of ownership. When there's half the amount of moving parts odds are they're not going to have the issues
The 1/2 ton F-150 you had was underpowered for your needs, so you upgraded to a 3/4 ton; that's no fault of the F-150, it's simply the fact that you now need more capacity (or you didn't do your due diligence the first time around). Personally, I'd have gone for the Ford SuperDuty instead Tremor or non-Tremor package, but that's just me.
The GMC and PW are in different leagues. One is a purpose-built, 2500-based, off-roader with all of the necessary hardcore hardware to virtually never get stuck. The other is also a great truck that is more of slightly better off-roader than the standard 2500 that also has a diesel option. It all comes down to what you really want: Unstoppable offroad beast with a substantial better interior? PW. A offroad-worthy 2500 with good capacity and cameras galore(although that interior for over $70k? Ouch)? GMC. What a time to be a truck buyer.
These trucks are NOT actually expensive if you look at all the content, technology, comfort, and usability. Compare the price to what some people will pay for a high-end Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Jaguar, et al. This truck is MUCH better value. And which one will last longer and still be on the road (or even off-road) doing its job in 30 years? The truck wins hands down.
I wish the AT4 came with a rear selectable locker. For as much as they cost and the at4 being just an appearance package is kind of a bummer. The 1500s come with a small lift and duratracs over a normal 1500.
Hey I bought a 2017 Denali 2500 love it did I need it he’ll no, but it’s a great truck more power than I’ll ever need and gets dam good fuel mileage for such a big heavy duty truck
I test drove one of these, real nice, bunch of bells and whistles like the rear view mirror/camera. Only complaint I have is the tow mirrors shape has too many zig zags lol. Still love my 17 Chevy Midnight Duramax. AT4 and Fords Tremor edition are the hottest looking trucks right now. Not sure what Chevy did with 2020 appearance.
I used to be a truck guy. But since I do a lot of off road exploring I now prefer my lifted 2018 JLU with 35 inch tires. The wheelbase on the trucks was just to long, for my new purposes...
@@mpsangha I saw a comparison on a youtube channel, side by side, they are the same size as a Tacoma. Not even a full sized truck. If it was, I would consider getting one...
The 10 spd although not a true Allison is so damn smooth and efficient. You won’t be able to go back to a 6 spd after this. You won’t be able to drive a ram or ford after you are used to the ride on these GM’s
Since the mpg between diesel and gas is about the same, I'm leaning towards getting a 2500 at4 with 6.6l v8 mainly for carrying payload only. Maintenance will be cheaper as well, and gas is cheaper.
I have a 2018 Ram with an 8 foot bed and the bed is terrible, flimsy and only 4 little loops on the entire bed, i use my bed daily and it’s hard to secure multiple items. My old Chevy has a much more usable bed
The only thing that I don't like about the AT4 package is that you have to have those orange inserts in the seats. There should be an option to remove those if you don't like them.
Main reason to get this truck over the Power Wagon? Diesel. Ram wasn't willing to design a truck that allowed for the diesel intercooler AND a winch up front.
That is a really nice looking truck. The AT4 package adds nice touches. I just can't wrap my thoughts (or checkbook) around 70k! I am so out of touch with prices of all these new trucks.
If you cant justify paying 70 k for a truck then dont purchase a HD truck. HD trucks are a tool that make you money. Especially diesel. Dont buy a diesel if your not using for towing heavy loads
After owning the truck for a while he will change his mind. Thank goodness he purchased the Diesel with the Allison transmission. GM doesn’t make a good transmission anymore. You will find that with time the plastic dashboard will crack. The undercarriage will rust. The HVAC system will break down. It not like the older GM trucks. It will become a money pit after the warranty is over. Sell it before then or just lease it. Fords and Toyota trucks quality is getting better as GMC and Chevrolet has been getting worse. I have always liked the GMC and Chevrolet ride better. 😀✌️
I went and looked at a truck like this here locally. Nice truck, maybe if I win the lottery I could afford one. Right now I have a job and family to think about and cannot afford to buy a new toy and also drive it. They need to make a nice truck that is affordable for the working man/woman. A base model is just that, the working individual would like to have a vehicle they can be proud to drive as well.
Just wait until trash gets into all those hinges on that tailgate and see how well it works. The only positive I think on a GM is that they did use an extra injector downstream in the exhaust to burn off the DPF ash instead injecting extra fuel in the engine. Not sure if that is still true.
For me the only knock is the interior. It's not the bottom of the barrel but it could but much better. I prefer the barndoors on the ram but I could live with the multi pro tailgate. For how much this thing weighs and it basically being a brick fighting through the wind that gas mileage is not bad, could probably be higher if you granny the throttle.
It's not an option on the HD I have no facts to base this on but I belive the reason it is not avail el is due to the amount of towing expected out of an HD. I'd like to say something about too many variables for the truck to compensate for but let's be honest, it's all liability for GM That being said I've ordered a 3500 and quickly got over the fact this won't be included
My fear with all of the tech is when it breaks, it's going to be expensive to fix. That tailgate alone must cost a mint (I didn't see a manual open option on the tailgate, just two buttons. That can't be good 10 years down the road).
😂😂😂...true. I hate truck owners that whine about it. Everyone wants the v8 and when they get it, they go to forums to see what everyone else is getting...lol..... solution....DONT BUY A TRUCK OR GET WHAT YOU NEED. Too many people get a V8 just because. They don't really need the power. V6 is very respectful in power. That's what I have. It's pretty awesome does everything I need it to. 22.8 mpg and that's all City driving..😃
I just bought the 2020 AT4 1500 and the adaptive cruise is great. The only thing I don't have is the front bed steps. I do have the kicker stereo in the tailgate. It just happened to come with it. And because it is the end of 2020, I got it for a great deal.
I got mine more for the luxury, so I will be using the bed more as a large trunk. I traded in my Cadillac XTS Platinum and the AT4 has all the bells and whistles with more cabin room. Once I get my Bak Revolution X14 and bedrug, I should be cookin! - MayorMike
The seat contrast is the best of the Sierras and I would not buy anything other than the pacific blue. I was looking at a frost white denali, but these stand out.
It is saddening to see how manufacturers water down the base models and only include electronic aides with an $80,000 truck. Cameras, screens and sensors are dirt cheap nowadays. These frilly trucks are pure profit. I agree that radar cruise control should come with your new truck if it's meant to replace your home.
This is a great breakdown of why the truck is a good pick. It still kills me me thought how tiny/outdated the dash and infotainment is in an $80k truck
I'm impressed he switched from jeep/ford to a GM, I didnt think with the new body style there would be any of that. Corse it's just an opinion, interiors and a major let down! Would love to see more of these reviews from ppl that have more then 1500 miles on the vehicle, still in the honeymoon stage...
Let's be realistic here, as much as some people hate on Nissan trucks, a truck like the Titan XD pro4x, 5/16th, would've met all his needs and be $20k cheaper, but hey it is his money.
You Guys Should Do a Ike Gauntlet towing test in a 1995 Chevy Silverado 1500 Z71 Extended Cab Short Bed and a towing test with a 2006 GMC Envoy XL / Chevy Trailblazer EXT vs 2006 GMC Sierra 1500 Z71 Extended Cab Short Bed/ Chevy Silverado 1500 Extended Cab Short Bed / 200 GMC Safari EXT / Chevy Astro Van EXT / 2000 Chevy Venture
Anyone bending over to hand $95,000 to buy a truck should be punished for the good of common man. That only encourages these companies to go up more each year and rape us.
Maybe you just had a bad one or a lemon. Most PowerStrokes are pretty good. I personally love the Cummins the most, but I like PowerStroke and Duramax as well. All are great capable engines. Edit: Every truck/car brand has some lemons thats just the way it is.
He still didn't give exactly why he picked this truck. Glad he did. Hearing something like: it's best looking , best resale value etc. Specifically he didn't mention why
Pretty nice truck. Clearly should be for that much money. I think I would like to have hideaway running boards. I don't like the black plastic fender-well arch and bed top trim that will fade to turn to gray by the time the warranty runs out. The fancy folding tailgate is just going to be a magnet for thieves because it's probably $2500 or more to replace, not something I would want. Those things aside, I like it.
I'm new to the world of trucks (just bought mine a year ago) and I just wanna say that it is REALLY hard to do any sort of research about trucks. Any site I look at people say every single manufacturer sucks and their trucks are garbage. I don't know enough about trucks to know who is bullshitting and who is for real so it's really damn confusing. Whenever I think I like a certain truck I go read about it and sure enough "this truck is garbage, don't buy it!" I've seen this about Ram 1500's, Ford Rangers, Tacomas, Tundras, F-150's, you name it. How am I supposed to learn when everyone is so damn biased? I have no idea what trucks/manufacturers to avoid and which are good. It's so frustrating.
Very nicely designed truck, just many new options that I already have on my 17' F250,from the truck and trailers cameras,to the mirrors,to the aluminum and then some, couldn't copy the tailgate steps though.
The problem with the power wagon is the gas mileage on the gas engines. I have a 2016 gmc and get 18mpg . My buddy has the new 2019 power wagon and according to him, he's only getting around 13.5mpg. Has 4k on it. I always thought after 2 or 3 k the engine was broken in and mpg went up a bit.
I think many manufacturers break the engines in at the factory a bit. Also from all my reading, many people who broke their engines in slowly and babied them ended up having an oil eating pig. The best way to break a new car or truck in is to do a 50 foot burn out leaving the dealership.
Campers. I can see the benefit in a very few specific scenarios, but otherwise they're a big expense that depreciates quickly (like boats). Unless you really have no option for a hotel/motel nearby and don't want to camp, you can save tons of money by skipping the camper and staying in hotels (very nice rooms) and still save plenty of money. By the time you pay for the camper AND pay for an even more expensive truck to pull it around (plus the extra fuel and then the ongoing maintenance/repairs over the years and then if you need to buy a replacement/upgrade some day), you're going to be losing a lot of money compared to staying in a hotel. Only in a few specific cases for lifestyle choices where i can see a camper being a benefit but I'd rather take the thousands I will save and not have the hassle of figuring out a place to stay/park and not have all the extra expenses related to a camper. My retirement money will be spent on very flexible travel plans. Not hampered by all the restrictions and costs that come with a camper.
I was surprised it only towed 11000 lbs. with the duramax. One of the best reviews I’ve ever watched, Kudos on having an owner input review. A 6 month update would be interesting with the owner.
The prices of trucks these day are crazy! I had a new Denali 2500 and it was an amazing truck, but it was over 70K dollars. You can get a Tesla truck for that. Granted, we don’t know how far the Tesla will tow, but still, these prices are crazy!
There is no comparison to the towing capacity of a gas vs diesel. The cost difference is probable about $15k to $20k between the two trucks. Also looking for off-road capability everyone knows the rear diff auto locker doesn't work to well. Nice truck though.
@@supadoopa926 Here you go with B.S. we use all three trucks at the mines and beat them to death. The Ram wins in all categories let me tell you. The electronics in GM are the worse by far. The trucks rattle too. The Ford is crap after 60K squeaks and DPF issues. The Ram is by far the toughest I can show you. The Ram just never quits.

Great video, but the video capture was too close up at times that took away from seeing in full view certain things, such as when he was pulling back the cover, would have been nice to see a full view of what he was doing.
Yeah they do turn like a barge. Lol.
I think the Sierra is a good truck, but I hate how small the Infotainment System is, way too small in a huge truck
Nice Truck much nicer than the F250 I'll be buying one, GMC also holds a better value than the ford and dodge
Don’t start crying when it’s broke in 2 years
One of the nicest spec trucks I’ve seen. When we bought our 2018 f150 I really came close to a GMC. The only thing that swayed me was the fact the F150 is aluminum and won’t rust two years in (not meant as a dig any steel body will) 👌
Matt Davies have you seen corroded aluminum fords yet? They definitely corrode... and it’s ugly. Aluminum corrodes!!!
Devo you get a lot of bimetallic corrosion where aluminum meets steel. However it’s far less likely to corrode in a similar fashion to steel. I’m confident it will last longer. Time will tell.
Rust is a cancer to metal. Corrosion on aluminum is no where near as bad.
@@nkyryry
Yup
2 and a half years into owning an aluminum body F150 and can definitely say the rock chip corrosion compared to my 15 Chev is amazing.
Up in Canada, they use salt on the roads in winter and it really messes with steel......literally half the year the roads are salted.
My Chev literally had a bit of rust on every chip, something the F150 doesn't.
So yes I'm happy with the aluminum body.
Oh the aluminum is just as bad I’ve Already seen some corroding.
Congrats to whoever bought this truck. U won't regret it.
This is what I want, but a 3500.
Im a power wagon guy but the at4 in black is absolutly beaitiful. I seen one getting delivered and was blown away at how nice and rugged it looked.
I'm sure they will update it for you later ... at a handsome fee lol ... Don't expect it for free :)
It's really nice looking, i'm glad Ram can finally do similar combinations like Big Horn with painted bumpers, i don't like too much chrome either
Going from a Ford to a GMC - he’s going to have to become accustomed to dependability. 🏆✨
He said it:its about 20 grand over priced....
Put 17k lbs behind it and tow it up a hill. Detach it and then go off roading. I've already seen my friends AT4 in action. It's worth the money.
Los Angeles Lakers no truck is work 70K. It’s well overpriced
@@T3CHK1NG54 Maybe not to you but there are sedans over 70k and they can't do any work.
All trucks and full-sized SUVs are over priced.
Nobody is.
These trucks are very beautiful. For me I just love the sound of the older diesel.
I have the 2019 and I’m averaging 18 mpg. I love the review.
@@OneNationUnderGod. Could get pretty much this exact truck for almost 10k off, www.davesmith.com/new/GMC/2020-GMC-Sierra+3500HD-2c8a18e80a0e0a6b1ad9e1bce365aa85.htm
Not a bad deal for being brand new.
Mixed? Man in the city I'm getting around 11.5.... it hurts lol (19)
@@jmart5302 That is really poor. Even my 1 ton gas GMC crew cab long bed can get 11.5 mpg city. If you're getting that in a diesel you're either idling too much or driving it too hard lol.
@@dedalliance1 man I don't even stop on it. I've only got 2k on its clock, in 5 months of owning it and the first month I had out 800 on it.
Agreed. Keep ol’ reliable. Between the computers, EGR and DPF, they ain’t like they used to be.
that is why I got the Tradesman trim level on my Ram 2500...
Tactickle Shtooper Or an F350 with the new 7.3!
@@dam4274 yes sir! ;-)
I thought that they should add another weak point or two to a pickup tailgate. Nicely done gm! Can't wait to see how these fair after 10 years
The GMC and PW are in different leagues.
Peter L I agree with you about the higher-end car manufacturers it'll be interesting to see the electronics hold up .
Love the owners perspective In this video series
I test drove one of these, real nice, bunch of bells and whistles like the rear view mirror/camera. Only complaint I have is the tow mirrors shape has too many zig zags lol. Still love my 17 Chevy Midnight Duramax. AT4 and Fords Tremor edition are the hottest looking trucks right now. Not sure what Chevy did with 2020 appearance.
Road in one of those trucks yesterday...that was an amazing truck.
I used to be a truck guy. But since I do a lot of off road exploring I now prefer my lifted 2018 JLU with 35 inch tires. The wheelbase on the trucks was just to long, for my new purposes...
Gladiator is the best of both worlds!
@@mpsangha I saw a comparison on a youtube channel, side by side, they are the same size as a Tacoma. Not even a full sized truck. If it was, I would consider getting one...
I really like how real these guys are!
Nice truck my 82 VW rabbit have the big nozzle for truck stops. I would get some crazy looks
Would not even consider buying a GM vehicle, without a massive discount on msrp....
I have a 2020 denali 3500 and it’s so smooth and luxurious. I love it
The 10 spd although not a true Allison is so damn smooth and efficient. You won’t be able to go back to a 6 spd after this. You won’t be able to drive a ram or ford after you are used to the ride on these GM’s
"Well maybe someday we will eventually get there" Come on bro, snap out of it.
Great Video Andre! (Any dimension specs on the tremor?). Please?
Main reason to get this truck over the Power Wagon? Diesel. Ram wasn't willing to design a truck that allowed for the diesel intercooler AND a winch up front.
I have a 2020 AT4 1500 with a 6.2L and I love everything about it, just like this gentleman said... wish the price was lower lol
That is a really nice looking truck. The AT4 package adds nice touches. I just can't wrap my thoughts (or checkbook) around 70k! I am so out of touch with prices of all these new trucks.
It will change soon. Remember 2009-2010? They are offering 96 month loans on vehicles now, that should tell you where the market's headed.
This was excellent. Good objective review from an actual owner.
Beauty truck but get a real tonneau cover. Bakflip MX4
very nice truck !!!!...i own a 2018 High Country and think the 2018 chevy’s are the best looking !!!
For such an expensive trick with the hi tech package, every option should be included like the adaptive cruise control.
It's not an option on the HD
I have no facts to base this on but I belive the reason it is not avail el is due to the amount of towing expected out of an HD. I'd like to say something about too many variables for the truck to compensate for but let's be honest, it's all liability for GM
That being said I've ordered a 3500 and quickly got over the fact this won't be included
My fear with all of the tech is when it breaks, it's going to be expensive to fix. That tailgate alone must cost a mint (I didn't see a manual open option on the tailgate, just two buttons. That can't be good 10 years down the road).
After 12 years and being pushed around 6,000 times the same type switch on my Yukon failed. It cost $48 for a new one.
I have a 2008 tundra 4x2 it gets 14 mpg, don’t wanna really hear about how y’all aren’t happy with your mpg.
I am not a truck guy but, this is a real beauty!
Hopefully, GMC will add the side bed step in future models of the AT4 1500 as well.
Bring back stepsides!

And with my 11k trade of my cadillac, I got this, with the 6.2 V8, loaded, for 50k.
Finally, something NOT about a fancy electric golf cart.
The one feature I do think is useful are the front box steps. Just wished they would fold up to clean up the lines when not in use.

I'll give it to GMC for keeping the column shift on their p-ups. The newer SUV's with the push button shifter. You can keep that crap.
Totally agree with you. I like to be in command with the shifter, not pushing buttons like an airline pilot.

Bought the 2020 Sierra Denali. They took away the raise the foot pedal😖. So disappointed. For shorter drivers it is a huge feature.
Nice truck. Still not sure about the styling, but GMC did a better job than Chevy did with their truck. I love the simple bumper and side steps.
The Powerjoke 6.0 and 6.4 horror stories and experiences will keep us from ever trusting Ford again.
Likely why Ford abandoned International and started building their 6.7’s in house.
Maybe you just had a bad one or a lemon. Most PowerStrokes are pretty good. I personally love the Cummins the most, but I like PowerStroke and Duramax as well. All are great capable engines. Edit: Every truck/car brand has some lemons thats just the way it is.

For towing he chose the right truck.
Modern ICE engines don't 'break-in' like they used to.
Don Leamon why
I think many manufacturers break the engines in at the factory a bit. Also from all my reading, many people who broke their engines in slowly and babied them ended up having an oil eating pig. The best way to break a new car or truck in is to do a 50 foot burn out leaving the dealership.
Mopar never has gotten good mileage.
That's probably because the GMC is basically a car with the front end being 2 inches off the ground.
He said GVW was 11,000 LBs. He can tow about 18,000 LBs with that setup and the max for a 3500 is in the mid to upper 30s
