As someone who grew up with an encouraging mother and toxic father this hits close to home. The conflicting messages somehow mixed into insecurity = failure. I’m now ensnared by a vicious cycle of being built up and collapsing like a house of cards. Whenever I try to express doubt mom would give me a pep talk that I eventually became numb to as I got older. My father always said I was crazy because I have Autism and public school reenforced it.
To anyone who reads this I know the saying “you’re a great person” might sound cheesy so I’ll just remind you that you’re not alone in this world.

Midoriya Izuku actually that was an original song, sequel of Lie by Luka. The reason why Gumi English has gotten better is because in I(Love) , It was Gumi Whisper While here and Copycat it is actually Her official V3 English Voicebank ! !!
Oh, so her Japanese voicebank was used in I (Love)? That's actually really cool to know! I do think that, English VB or not, Circus's tuning has improved a LOT.

Okay, my theory is that this Gumi is from Copycat as well. She was able to stop copying other people’s personalities and is trying to find her own self, but she’s kind of having a hard time since she’s so used to using other people’s traits. She can’t keep a stable self-image, and the images in the mirror is her head telling her that shes “awful” and “no one should want to be around her”, etc. When she looks at the picture of Copycat Gumi and says “in pictures I see, all that we were and could be”, she is reminded of how she used to be and could still be, and how she was “happiest” in that picture and really wants to be that happy again, which is why she says “I’m a fool for you”. But ultimately, she knows that she can’t be that way anymore and has to suck it up and find her true self, but she still can’t stand herself.

This song is super strong about self hate and stuff like that, i bet tons of people can relate to a song like this. "I cant stand you" shes looking in the mirror, shes looking at herself and saying this, "i would never want to get to known someone like me" its clear that she is talking to herself, the song makes that clear. the last lyric of the song is "I cant stand myself". I like to think this song is also a sequel to Copycat, she has changed herself so many times, that she has become a person, she does not even like.
I love love love love this song and I'm so glad I got to work on the video for it! I love the beat and the melody, it's vogue-worthy during the post-chorus / chorus thing. Super good job on the music and art, keep it up! :D

i honestly didn't want to make the connection at first but like yeah the final verse pretty much proves and it went so beautifully down hill
I feel like it's a sequel about Copycat, about the girl regretting her actions of copying others (or just one person ?). At 1:14 ("in the mirrors I see demons set out to haunt me with familiar faces starting to talk like I do") Those "demons" may be the differents personalities she created by copying people, thus explaining why they have familiar faces (hers). She realizes that copying was not a good thing to do (1:46 "I've been treating you bad") and that the one she can't stand is herself, not the one(s) she was copying.
And of course, the hints in the art lol.
So, did I get it all wrong ? Did I find somrthing true ? Anyway, love thinking about the meaning of the lyrics in your songs haha.

I used to think her hair was gray at the top because gumi was old but now I wonder if it follows more of the theme of copycat in that her identity/the green has sort of washed away from her
despite the "Copycat: The Sequal" theory is pretty solid, I have this nagging urge to think it's about anxiety and/or low self-esteem, but a bad self-image could be a thing too. The line "I can't stand myself." sounds like pretty solid evidence of the low self-esteem one. For bad self-image I think I've got "Got a constant lag in my image connection, distorting the features, begging for comprehension." Now it's time to list lines that also relate to these, but I'm too lazy to explain them.

The entire chorus after hearing the final line.

I still think the copycat the sequal theory is more acurate, but the nagging feeling was too much for me to hold onto much longer. So yeah, feel free to point out flaws in my theory.

I like to think that this song is about a protagonist who’s fallen in love with someone but denies it because she’s had trauma in the past and realizes it’s better to watch from afar than touch and ruin.
Feedevee not denying the trauma, but I kinda think she also has bad behaviour which is within her because of it character which she knows are toxic but can't stop doing these unintentionally or without noticing it before it's too late.

I love this song. The only thing is I don't think I like how it ended so suddenly. I was expecting one more amped up chorus, then it was just over. Won't stop me from replaying it to no end, but just my 2¢.
I respect your opinion, but let me explain why I like it.
It connects the entire song together, that you were expecting another chorus about this mysterious person that Gumi seemed to despise. But, just before she was about to start about how she can't stand this person, the crushing realization that the person that she hated was herself. That makes it sound like she realized/gave up on pretending that it wasn't her fault.
It just adds to the theme.

I know I'm late to the party, but this song is actually amazing. I found it about two months ago and I actually relate to it more than I expected to. I've been battling depression for the past five-ish years and I'm definitely better now than I was. I used to flat out hate myself and seriously not want to look in the mirror. Now, I can say that I don't hate myself, I just have confidence issues.
Thank you for this song! It reminds me of the way I used to be when I was really bad in the best possible way because when I listen to it, I can look back on how I was and actually feel like I made progress. Copycat, Beast, and this one are some of my favorite songs right now!
