@@AndrewRooneyDrums the ocean had i lots of great drummers, paul is continueing the path, he is able to merge the best of two worlds in his drumming. also he is just a super nice dude(bought me a beer at an amenra accoustic set in berlin :D).
Well well, just discovered your music at the same time with this video. VERY nice surprise and awesome drumming. I love the passion behind the sounds here. You got a new fan.
My god, The Ocean is such a great band! There are so much layers to their music, so much technical ability and still they manage to make it enjoyable without having to be a prog musician! :) Their album Pelagial is beyond awesome!
I absolutely love how effortlessly he moves around the kit - toms and cymbals. He's very into the groove, and no matter the syncopation, accents, or hand-switching, it all looks natural. This song must have been a beast to memorize, but he makes it look like he's been playing it all his life.
Paul Seidel is such a great personality as a drumer and human being. The Ocean Collective create a masterpiece and the best Album of 2020. Thank's a lot ! Thank you Adrew for participate the vibe
As someone who doesn’t play drums but loves the channel, thanks for talking about details that would be obvious to drummers! It makes it really cool for me as a metalhead, because I love the music but I don’t notice or comprehend the impact of things like snare on/off. Details like that are awesome to hear you talk about.
Few years ago, probably around 2015-2016 I was wondering how amazing it would be to see these 2 bands on one show. I quickly dismissed this idea as impossible, they're playing such a different kind of music and Leprous is going softer and softer, there's no way they'd make a show together. You can imagine my shock when they announced this tour. They played 3 concerts in my country and It was very hard not to go to at least 2 of them (unfortunately I already had to take one day off work to see single one so it didn't happen)
So glad that you like this. I only discovered The Ocean half a year ago and I totally fell in love with them. Paul is literally the most inspiring German drummer for me. Is phrasing, his ideas, his dynamics, his chops, his everything. This is the drummer I aspire to be
Their whole back catalogue is nothing but epic, so good live too got to VIP with them last time they were in New Zealand, got a George Kollias snare head signed by Paul and the Band it hangs proudly in my lounge.
@@kingofthecuntsfromcuntasia3286 I was lucky to be introduced to The Ocean with this album and Phanerozoic I, I am far beyond amazed, this whole prehistory museum-metal thing is so epic.
I think you may have just introduced me to a new personal top 10 favourite drummer. It was so musical, so chill, pocket was deep as you want, THAT slick snare on move, and then suddenly blast beats too? I need more of this man.
Robin Staps who started The Ocean , is a genius, a mastermind. He changed so many musicians in their journey, he had so many visions, none of their albums sound alike. Each album has a different theme with the instrumental parts so cohesive, it shatters your soul and completes you with its magic.
I just Saw The Ocean last night (11/14/22) in Albany, NY. I met Paul and said I saw a reaction video with his J/C playthrough. He said, "Oh, i know the one, where the guy makes the face for a long time" We laughed about it. Good take on a great song and drummer, Mate!
Holy F××k!!! Paul is Very impressive, i was definitely caught off guard.. With how aggressive he plays, and his Snare Drum sounded A+.. I enjoyed how he was Striking the Snare also. Producing those loud pops keeping the Snare at forefront with Every Hit. This is a A+ Gold play through from Paul..
My former band mates and I brought The Ocean here to Farmington NEW Mexico back in 2006 or 2007 it was their first time touring in the US. They played the album Precambrian In its entirety and it still to this day is one of the best shows I have ever witnessed. We got to open for them and we partied with them afterwards. Cops came and a few of them went to jail lol.
I like that Mr. Seidel is getting some recognition, I prefer his dynamic heavy stuff from 8 years ago. "Paul Seidel - War From A Harlots Mouth - Drum Video Contest - To The Villains" is one of the clips I go back to every once in a while.
I found Andrew Rooney just a few months ago, really like his videos & input. I also have been recently listening to this song on repeat.. I'm so happy Rooney has made a reaction to Jurassic/Cretaceous. Always feels good to know that these songs I'm obsessed with others are too
They're a fascinating band (sometimes referred to as the Ocean Collective, because they've had so many members and collaborators. They've put out albums with 7+ vocalists across all the tracks).
That's probably the best drum play I've ever watched. I love how Paul in the beginning looks shy, but going deeply into the song he turns out to be a real beast. Amazing. Hope to see you reacting to Aric Improta from Night Verses some time :)
First time seeing you and I love the fact that The Ocean allowed it. Let’s spread these guys around, they deserve it and I think they’re some of the best you can actually find around.
Thanks, Andrew. If it wasn't for this video I would never have heard of this great drummer, whom I've described as the perfect mix of musician, monster and machine. He's incredible.
NO drummer but watch the channel for fun and discovering new bands, as most of your patreons tastes are in my line. This The Ocean is one hell of a discovery. This is truly great.
Never heard of this band or drummer, now I won't be able to forget them! I love seeing people in their element with that level of creativity and control.
Confirmed natty too. Here the BD drop in volume when he’s playing those 16ths. Absolute machine. Incredible drummer. Beautiful person. Cannot WAIT to see them with Karnivool in Bristol, U.K, March 2023. Karnivool hold a special place in the hearts of me and my wife, but to have The Ocean supporting is, for me, a match made in heaven.
I remember when I heard this particular song for the first time, I was immediately reminded of Tool... Very similar rhythm pattern and drumming style... Even the vocals to some extent! In the middle there's a bit of a Mastodon influence as well!...
My favorite band and the song I couldn't stop listening last year! They have such an incredible atmosphere. The last section of this song (the Jurassic part) is supposed to represent the asteroid collision that killed the dinosaurs, 65m years ago. Slightly epic! I'm not a drummer and I would love to know more details and technical stuff, it really enhances the experience.
I have not watched the video yet but thank you for checking him out! Such an underrated drummer and the song is imo one of the best of 2020. You might be the only channel that checked this so far. There are a lot of great stuff on this channel and your choice of drummers is great!
Didn't stay with The Ocean after Heliocentric and Anthropocentric for one reason or another but I always loved their drumming. Lots of toms and repetition. Think they had a different drummer back then but, after seeing this guy, both are amazing. Took a lot of influence in writing parts for drums from this band.
They had Luc Hess back then, a fantastic drummer in his own right. His parts on Firmament remain some of my favourites from all The Ocean records. Always a banger of a track live as well.
Yay! I salute you for this react🙏🏻 What a song. What a performance👏👏 Got to see them live i Bergen (The Black Metal capital of the world😆) 4-5 years ago, and it was GLORIOUS👌
Consistently one of my favorite bands during the last 6-7 years. Paul's previous work with War From A Harlot's Mouth is also excellent, just like his recent work with Nightmarer, which are both much more aggressive and dark. But his work with The Ocean is just so tasteful and mesmerizing. Every note in the right place, dynamics carried out perfectly, great phrasing/composition. On top of that the rest of the band is incredible and this last album of theirs was definitely in my top 10 for 2020. Also, as a scientist I REALLY love the lyrical and thematic content of all of their albums.
