I REALLY dug this! What a monster player.
We're back in lockdown here in NZ... Making videos and interacting with you all is keeping me sane at the moment.
Can really understand the mental strain and pure frustration of those in Countries that have been harder hit by this ordeal. Thanks for watching and hope everyone is doing well!
Stay strong, we are now in Level 1 of lockdown here in South Africa. when are you going to feature Cobus Potgieter - Skrillex cover (try it out)
We're here for you just as much as you have been for us. Sending love from the UK 🤘🏼
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Love watching you react to the music I love. I'm a guitarist that plays this style of music, but I'm amazed at the technical metal drummers and can never get enough of watching them. It's truly amazing....
And have you not checked out Infant Annihilator yet?? Their drummer Aaron Kitcher has the fastest kick drum game in the genre. You won't believe your eyes and ears. Highly recommend checking him out. Thanks Andrew, and keep doing what you're doing! Love from Oceanside, California....
No, thank you!
Czarcie Kopyto pedals is a custom-made product.
Murat Diril learned his craft working for Istanbul cymbals before linking up with Meinl in 2000 to develop their Byzance and MB20 series. Then in 2006 he worked with Paiste on its Twenty series. Thus, with 22 years' unique experience, Murat finally introduced his own cymbals.
Kudos for the cymbal info!
The MB20 Series was the best Meinls series for Metal🙌🏼nice to know, that Murat Diril was part of them
Awesome info! Thanks Mika
Actually the name translates from Polish - A Devil's Hoof 😈
Fun fact about David. He's actually a kindergarten teacher.
You got to be kidding?!
Elementary school... But it was close.
Elementary school. Near my hometown
I bin a aus da Umgebung 👌
That's awesome. He looks very clean cut. As with all the extreme guys. They are always extremely intelligent and humble so it doesn't surprise me!
Exactly no matter what you think about the music you got respect the talent
More David please, he is one of the best ever in my book!
There will be more! I dug this
Estepario also recognizes him as one of the best. Fastest feet in the business
His Despised Icon cover though.... And Nile ..... And Cattle Decapitation .... ahhhh well this will do 🤏
I'm sure I'll get to it!
David is what happens when you not only dream big, but also put in the dedication and countless practice hours in order to make that dream a reality. An absolute titan behind the kit.
Oh you can see the work. Unreal
David Diepold is the epitome of technique and control. Love your channel...keep rockin', brother 🤘
Edit:
I've never heard of that cymbal company before, either, so don't feel bad.
Cool, thanks! HAHA
Just stumbled across your video, David is one of my favorite drummers, along with John Longstreth, George Kollias, Stocki and Lord Marco. And of course Pete Sandoval.
Im from NZ, I'll subscribe 👍🤘
🇳🇿🙏
Czarcie Kopyto is well-known brand in the metal genre.
And David Diepold is incredible. He has mastered so many different techniques. And fun fact: He uses push-pull because his left wrist was hurting when playing french grip.
Nice! Thank you
Kopyto double pedals are well above 1000 euros. Top class model and top class price. You can buy them only by ordering through their website.
The Devil's Hoof 😈
Hei Andrew, love your videos☺️👍Fun Fact:
David Diepold is the new Obscura-Drummer taking over for Sebastian Lanser who left Obscura some time ago.
Wow, I didnt know that!! Thats some serious shoes to fill!!
@@estelombo remember when we said the same when Sebastian had to fill for Grossman? And shit, things went very well haha. Lanser has such a unique style too.
@@REIDOPLANETA yup, I love all their styles, different, yet unbelievably talented. Seen Grosman and laser live before, but never diepold.
Thanks for the info!
I thought he played for smile empty soul
I’m surprise you didn’t react to his Dave weckl cover it’s incredible. Most people think drummers like this only work on music like this but David is extremely well rounded and all genres of music and I literally mean all except maybe hip-hop but he can probably do that in his sleep
Can't wait to see the Weckl cover!
The man can play anything. He’s mastered every foot technique known to man also. Peerless.
The drums is what got me listening to metal in the first place. When I was a kid and had just started playing, the heaviest thing I'd ever been exposed to was Slipknot and it was the drums that impressed me more than anything. In fact, I can't say I loved this extreme stuff because at the time it sounded like a wall of noise. But once I started playing drums and could then actually hear what they were doing, I was like "whaaaaaaaaat!?" Eventually I just grew to absolutely love the genre and ended up putting together my own band.
"I'm starting to kinda like this stuff". haha. Love it. And agreed on the reco to check out his Fleshgod Apocalypse cover "Kingborn". It's worth it alone to see him blast away in work boots and a gorilla t-shirt.
HAHA! Sounds awesome Michael
That cover of Kingborn is Awsome. And compared to other drummers, he's just smiling and looking like it's so easy... Others look like they are really pushing it 😂
I know David. Great guy and unbelievable drummer! You should definitely check out his Nile or Fleshgod Apocalypse cover!!
Can't wait to check it out!
@@AndrewRooneyDrums I have donated paypal, ill double or tripple it to make the fleshgod apocalypse (kingborn) drum cover happen. Drop me a line and lets get in the queue.
"Oh no, you don't just get away with that"
Idk why that made me laugh but it did 😂 love your vids man
HAHA! Awesome Ian
Awwww I have been waiting for this one!!!! Check his Dave Weckl cover!
Will do!
“I think I kinda like this.” We have a convert people!!!! 🤘
best sensation ever!
😂💯🙌
AMAZING MIRACLE
Metal contains some of the most talented musicians in the world.
He plays the best f****** pedals in the world, and the customer support is outstanding. One spring broke two days before a show, I wrote them an e-mail at 22:00 and the next day I had a new set of springs. There was a guy from the company, who drove to Austria to deliver the springs. We were just a small local band... And the pedals are beyond great. I played Iron Cobras, Deamon Drive, DW 9000, Axxis and Trick
Wow that guy is amazing great review as always made my morning
Glad you enjoyed it Ryan!
Iv'e just watched the statistics You showed, and I did SUBSCRIBED. Best wishes from Poland 🤘🤘🤘
Thanks Bartosz!
Playing air drums on the couch until A: I get calf cramps, B: the tv watchers get annoyed and tell me to stop. 🤣
Yes Jason!
His cover of Lucifer Incestus is absolutely insane !!! Great speed and technique!
Sounds great!
Brutal footwork he's always amazing to watch
Your face the entire time was priceless
You’re so right about the sound of that snare. Incredible. When he slowed down towards the end, it was so melodic. Great video.
Yo thanks!
He makes it look so easy.
Yup!
looking beyond the Godlike playing, and magnificent drum kit, I am amazed by this man's composure behind the kit!
He is a an absolute master of his craft!!
Yes! I was waiting for this one! 🤘🏻🙌🏻 So many talented musicians out there! 🤯
Yeah each video a new discovery at the moment. Loving it
Good stuff! 🤙🏻
That push pull on the snare is what got me interested in David Diepold. Loved ur reaction to it too XD
I like the heavy stuff and the way you present your videos 😎👊 good job!!
I appreciate that Jesper!
Man, I'm not even a drummer. Still gonna have to go shoot myself after hearing this. I'm unworthy. That guy is probably the best I've ever seen in Metal (and I'm listening to that stuff since 25 years now). The timing, the consistency, the creativity in his fills and transistions ... just perfect.
You never disappoint!
Neither do you! HAHA
This guys a blizzard of polish and talent. Epic control and drum tone are on point. Never herd of those cymbals but they picked the right one to showcase them. Thanks again Andrew and congrats that you are expecting...??
You nailed it again Rob!
No we're not expecting. But I was trying to indicate how busy things are here LOL
@@AndrewRooneyDrums ahhh, you Aussie’s and check mates as friends.
Love your channel mate 🙏🏻💪🏻
Glad you enjoy it Ciaran!
His technique is always textbook, and his stick height is incredibly consistent as well.
Totally Ryan! Amazing
That moeller blast technique is sweet.
Machine Michael!
6:07-6:49 such a beautiful transformation, almost like that of a butterfly.
Nice Jacob!
David is amazing!!!
I agree Sebastian!
Nice. You watched david diepol I'm glad. He's the metal drumming god atm. Try kevin paradis, he's up there too.
Thanks for introducing me to new metal drummers 😄
New to me too! Great ride
Just subbed mate, didn't realise you're in NZ! choice bro XD, love the content
Thanks for the sub bro!
The forboding impasse playthrough by david is probably the biggest show of talent ive ever seen in my opinion. Its crazy, I recommend anyone give it a view!
One of the new Human Machines of the 20th 21st century :)
ehhehehe
Yes Jorge!
Outta all the Tracks to flex Diepold on this is prolly the tamest. Cryptopsy or Cattle Decapitation 10/10
David Diepold is an amazing drum player...
Obscura's drummer now. Great player.
David diepold is absolutly a M.A.C.H.I.N.E
100% Aaron!
Andrew, Vortex Omnivium's version of David is a must watch also.
Thanks Tiago! I dug this WOW!
At the end was so Vicious
The only Moeller technique in extreme metal. David is elite (those feet though).
Edit : The man has also mastered every double bass technique imaginable.
Great video! Awesome pick 👌 I'm always watching all your videos and liking . Il be a subscriber for life lol one day we may land on "milos meier " can't wait to see
I'll get there Zack!
@@AndrewRooneyDrums 🤟 you are the man
BTW congratulations. It's the most amazing present one can get. I guess your cruise liner trips are on hold for a while... 😁
No cruises for a bit Ruan!
yep, when i seen this guys cattle decap cover i couldnt believe someone could play that music. he def gives alex rudinger a run for his money!
Can't wait to do another Alex watch. He's a monster
@@AndrewRooneyDrums Rudinger is fun to watch. If you want to see him sweat (who doesn't?) check out his cover of Stabwound (originally played by Hannes Grossmann).
Des Carles, I was about to write the same comment. Btw, theres actually a 13 y.o. kid here on youtube, Nikhil T, ripping through that song like it as nothing. Check it out.
So glad to see you reacting to David Diepold. He's clearly an absolute monster, and his cover of "Kingborn" by Fleshgod Apocalypse made me quit drumming.
React to Sebastian Lanser playing Ten Sepiroth
Thanks Sherif
6:30
I forget if it was George Kollias or Derek Roddy that introduced me to the idea that speed and control are effectively the same thing. It's easy to develop an extremely fast nervous twitch, but without the control to keep it in time, it just sounds like popcorn. This was maybe a decade ago, and it was something of a radical idea in the extreme metal drumming community back then. Seems like it sunk in!
He has a lot of covers on YT channel. On technical viewpoint i would suggest checking his take on Cattle Decapitation, Dead set on suicide. Painfully fast and demanding song. A very good production of the video. No wonder this guy is substitute for Lanser in Obscura. Theres some extraordinary talent and sh#tloads of hours of relentless practice at display here. Just beautiful to watch and listen.
His kit sounds amazing! I love the snare and ride sounds. His toms are also positioned very flat, almost horizontal? Why is that?
All ergonomics Ruan. Working for him. Depends on so many things like length of limbs, trying to catch the rims, seat height etc etc
More David Diepold! Check out the song: “damn draft dodgers” the alternating blast beats will make your head spin! Absolute machine, funny gorilla t-shirt too!
You should do a reaction to his 'Fleshgod Apocalypse - Kingborn' drum cover, absolutely outrageous
Czarcie Kopyto are the Bugatti's of drum pedals. A double pedal will cost you around $NZ 2000 to your door and there is usually a waiting list. They were designed and made for extreme metal drummers.
That's crazy! My kick pedal cost about $120 brand new HAHA
This is the current drummer of obscura
Thanks for the heads-up on a killer new drummer. Hope you Kiwis do a Lomu on the virus, christ knows you've done a better job than us lot in the UK.
HAHA LOMU!
Only took one family here ignoring their quarantine to shut down an entire city.
Very fragile state of affairs
Hell ya i'm part of the 9%
YES Tyler!!!
His cover of Damned draft dodgers from cryptopsy impregnated me
That's some serious drumming!
You know it buddy guy
Awesome video! You should also do Foreboding Impasse by David!
Yo thanks for the tip!
I fucking love this guy, is all I'm gonna say...
Totally Rishi!
Sorry bit late commenting on this, check out David doing the cover Damned Draft Dodgers, alternating blast beats!
His hand technique is actually an "open/close" technique as opposed to the wipping motion of Moeller. Its something ive only seen a few really elite guys doing. Kevin Paradis does this as well, hes the person who explained the difference to me.
Aric Improta he played for meinl cymbals. "Blur- Lights in the videodrome". Absolutely astounding techniques in that video in my opinion. Im curious what you think. Please do a reaction video. Ps. Be warned its a 39 min video
Thanks David! It is indeed rather long for a reaction. Need a watch party on it! HAHA
Love to see you do these. If you're looking for something a little more out of left field to give a try, check out Rich Kass' Tigran Hamasyan transcription. Rich is an old uni acquaintance of mine and his stuff makes my brain melt.
Thank you Andrew!
I've been playing drums for 25 years and I haven't heard of those cymbals either...
Great to see something different!
@@AndrewRooneyDrums agreed, they sound good!
You should check out Jesse Beahler playing Eye For An Eye as well as Anthony Barone playing Underneath A Sullen Moon, they're both absolute monsters!
How much power does he get out of the Moeller technique compared to the other blast techniques that you have seen?
Have you been able to compare the various styles of blast beats on your own?
I think the first time I saw a strong example of the Moeller technique was from Tony Royster Jr. (there's a throwback) and he was producing a ton of power
I subscribed because you told me too.
Diepold is beast
But dude, the most talented musicians belong to metal and extreme metal.
We are perfectionists and the best musicians i have heard and seen live are all metal players.
It pushes you to your absolute limits of playing, and to be good, youve gotta practice practice practice
Every single day.
Keep doing the metal vids though.
Thank you! 🙏
Only me remind me little hit Nile and this plays o think familiar with G. Kollias
I love David Diepold here and in Obscura but give Hannes Grossmann a listen and analysis, please.
Those drummers could get at any instrument (piano or guitar) that good if they'd just want it.
9:04 - right!
He used to play and work boots and his earlier videos
A lot of these speed demons play in boots! mad
W-O-W
Estoy de acuerdo Salvador!
Drop the "vocals" and it's epic!!!
what's best Drums to Buy??
Nice one. You should had react to his nile cover, that is incredible!
I'll check it out!
Anyone have experience with Murat Diril cymbals? Thinking of trying a brand other than the big 4.
I'm curious also Andrew!
If you do another Diepold song, Hymns has some tasty stuff
Thanks Travis!
You're not alone I have never heard of them cymbals either.😃 I'm new to this heavy stuff thanks to UA-cam I've been exposed to it. A fan of the music but not so much on the vocals. The drummer's in this stuff is just that just incredible. Keep on doing what you do🤘😜🤘
Thanks Ray! Will do man
Obscura Solaris!
I think David is Delta Empire
Awesome. Thanks Philip!
david is so good at what he does but there is another drummer who is really great at that and you haven't had him yet his name is james payne
Thank you Nick!
Kataklysm the killshot is a got one to watch
Czarcie kopyto means "devil's hoof" in polish language. The more you know :)
Oh right. Thanks!
Hey Andrew, check out Timothy Fletcher. His videos are pretty short and he plays just a snare. I don't know if you can do a review, but he's super entertaining!
Thanks Eric!
Mural Diril is a Turkish musician :).
Right on! Thank you
Impressive drummer. I think “pounding the drums” is more a characteristic of hard rock genres rather than metal genres whose songs often have a much faster tempo like this.
You nailed it!
I've always noticed hard rock drummers are powerful yes, but tight, clean and precise. They're back beat drummers. The bashers are found in the hardcore, noisecore and grindcore scene. Especially the last two.
Please check out Hannes grossman
never heard of those cymbals and i love me some Istanbul's and trxs so you can say I'm keen on obscure cymbal brands
Must be great cymbals!
@@AndrewRooneyDrums considering a ride is a few grand. I'D HOPE SO!
This guy has made a cover for Dave Weckl's "Tiempo de Festival" Just saying.
Oh right!
Andrew this fast stuff just can't be done by smashing the drums. It takes years to develop the speed and control. The push pull is probably the best technique as it saves a ton of energy. This guys probably the best extreme metal drummer walking around today.
Yes his technique is pretty flawless. Plenty of facility and control on display here
@@AndrewRooneyDrums I saw him talk about the push pull technique. He said his right hand wasn't up to the level of his left just yet. I can only imagine when it is. Worth a look at his channel. So many incredible performances.
@@AndrewRooneyDrums and I forgot to say how much I'm loving your channel Andrew. You feature so many incredible drummers, and the memes are so on point.
