I heard the interruption of his flow and figured something was up, looked again and there it was. I can honestly say that it’s the only time I’ve ever seen him fumble a stick. Not that absolute perfection is the idea, I’ve just never seen it until this performance.

He really showed how cool flams between the snare and toms can be. Instead of just playing accents or flams on the snare, he plays flams between two surfaces which makes the accented notes pop and stand out without having to hit really hard. Every time I hear Gavin play, he's giving me a lesson on the musicality of the drum set.
I wasn't sure, but was he playing hertas with his feet while playing an melodic line on the toms?
And speaking of toms, I thought he was pulling some really great tones out of them. I'm sure that Sonor makes great sounding drums, but I doubt I could make them sound as good as Gavin did.
    Awesome stuff!

Wow, what a great drummer. I can’t believe I’ve never heard him before. I’ve been really impressed with these reaction videos. From Yoyoka to Carter Beaufort, just great stuff!
So here’s a question that I’ve been pondering. Which one artist has worked with the best drummers (taken collectively) throughout their career. My vote goes to Sting but I’d be interested in other opinions.

      Thanks Jeff!
And yup Sting knows how to pick em. Josh Freese, Vinnie, Omar. Can't get any better

You may think I'm cheating a bit, but I've looked at this artist as 1/2+1/2=1 whole artist in their career known as "Steely Dan" AKA - Becker & Fagen. I'd say this rooster of drummer is pretty good, scratch that I mean it is "great." Jim Hodder
      Jim Gordon
      Jeff Porcaro
      Hal Blaine
      Rick Marotta
      Bernard Purdie
      Steve Gadd
      Ed Greene
      Keith Carlock
      Lerroy Clouden
      Vinnie Colaiuta
      Sonny Emroy
      Rick Lawson
Michael White Jim Keltner Hmm... well what do you think?

Gavin wow, precision Harrison. I see and hear why he's the beast. Have you picked out an engagement ring yet? I suggest genuine zildjian.

I think it is the Sarah Hagan Backstage interview where he talks about this solo & how he was invited and his prep, they did indeed only have 1 rehearsal together.

As a non drummer how do you make one arm do one thing and the same with the legs, when I try my other arm just joins in while my main hand watches.. I’m not musical in any way

Porcupine Tree just dropped a new song in over a decade and the drums are incredible. You *have* to check it out - ua-cam.com/video/AW5v4Ohxk5k/v-deo.html

Drumming aside, I particularly liked the handshake at the end. Remember that? When you could shake someone's hand without them recoiling, like you were handing them a dogshit sandwich.

It’s great and I love it. But you can tell he doesn’t do a hell of a lot of long solos as it seemed to me like a lot of small sections put together. If you compare it to Dennis chambers time on the show. His whole solo is so fluid. Not to take anything away from Gavin. You know I love that guy.

That's because what sets him apart from most, and you can put the rest of his old band mates from Porcupine Tree in this category as well, is their absolute devotion to serving the music. Always!
Every solo from every performance of their's I've ever seen, sounds and feels like an intrinsic part of the song.
