Wouldn't having to find accessory power in that year vehicles hard? I couldn't find one good enough to run a dashcam. I've had to use a relay to power a dash cam, Everything was constant. The only thing that wasn't constant was too small to power a dash cam let alone a radio. I've had to do this after someone said it smells like their module is smoking and their radio keeps shutting off.
Well damn, is this why I was having trouble with my accessory wire? I installed this into my pickup, and it was by no means my first install. But the radio doesn't turn off with the ignition or when I open the door. I'll rewire it and bypass the module for the speakers and see if that helps tomorrow!
Hi JP - Thanks for the video! If the speakers bypass the RP5, do the steering wheel controls still work? Also, I spoke with Crutchfield and they said the black and yellow wires that you said you always pair up to the black and yellow with the head unit black and yellow are for SiriusXM. So I don't think those need to be wired in if the vehicle doesn't have SiriusXM. Doesn't hurt anything though.
1st thanks for watching the video and 2nd yes the swc will work if you bypass the speakers. Now as far as the black and yellow controlling the sirius xm I never heard that but the reason I always wire them is because if you look at the harness there is a yellow and black wire doubled in the harness and itsnjust safe to have it go directly from harness to harness even though there is a pair going to the module
@@jptheinstallguy Thanks for the reply. The guy at Crutchfield may have been wrong about those being for SiriusXM. I'm following your lead and wiring the same way you did!
I hooked mine up at first without your bypass solution to test it. 2007 Silverado Non-Bose. I installed the Alpine ILX-W650 head unit with the optional KTA-450 amp. The sound was clipping playing music through Apple CarPlay at full volume. Bypassed the RP5 and works like a champ. SWC work perfectly as well so no issues there. I spoke with Crutchfield and shared your solution with them so they can help others. Also, I wired in the yellow and black wires just to be safe. Thanks so much JP as I would have been at a loss without your video!
After starting my truck the unit makes a click noise and I lose audio and steering wheel controls for a few seconds then another click and they come back, but the head unit screen stays on. It does this for maybe 5-10 minutes of driving then stops. Any ideas?
You saved me from the bullshit experience from PAC MAN, Paid 119 dollars for this interface mod. What crap to design something with this flaw, checked every wire, every video and your video was the only one that explained the issue of no sound. Everything worked but sound now I have to rewire all of the speakers directly. WHAT I don't understand is why PAC and other Tech support don't list this as a issue and UA-cam install videos should also. At least list the problem and show a alternate wiring diagram. I have a JVC radio everything worked but sound. Need the mod for my steering control to work , But even that was not clear in the wiring manual you could barely see the remote wire that needs to connect to the radio remote wire. Great content, just liked and sub . You have any advice on this pac working with the Bose ? I can’t get no sound 15 Tahoe thanks in advance
If you have bose make sure the harness is in the amplified slot and remote wire is hooked up
@@jptheinstallguy I've got a 2009 tahoe non bose non amplified and just put a pioneer dmh -2660nex in today with the same pac interface my problem is now that it's wired up it won't turn off . Even with the keys out of the ignition and driver side door being opened and closed I'm lost on what the problem could be came back 20 mins later and radio was still on . If you have any idea on what it could be I would really appreciate it
how do i fix this problem on the amp side ....... i have a amp hooked up an it does this
I've been watching your videos. I have an 07 escalade and I'm trying to use the pac rp5-gm31. The radio comes on everything but no sounds. What could cause this problem
Do you have the bose system?
@@jptheinstallguy I have the Bose system and having the same issues. Will rp5 gm31 not work?
@@jptheinstallguy what dash kit is that? I need exact one
Fixed the problem, thanks man!!!
I got an 03 sierra. With bose.. installed a cheap ANDROID double din. Everything seemed to work fine but now. I could ger sound out of it if it is on radio mode. If I go to bluetooth or youtube I get no sound. None at all. But if I hook up earphones to the rear concel jacks i get sound out of there but not out the speakers. Any idea what is going on???
There’s a switch on your interface module, make sure it’s set to other (alpine).
I have a 86 Toyota pickup doing the same thing I can’t figure out where it’s located or what the problem is
Hi JP - Thanks for the video!
Great video jp.thanks brotha
I bypassed the three speakers it stoped cutting off but but my steering wheel volume stoped working
Wow what a great video bro.
Need help on pr5-,gm11
After starting my truck the unit makes a click noise and I lose audio and steering wheel controls for a few seconds then another click and they come back, but the head unit screen stays on. It does this for maybe 5-10 minutes of driving then stops. Any ideas?
Every figure this out???
@@rich949687 unfortunately no, I’m just going to replace the unit.
I got Bose on my 08 Escalade I recently put a double din but it turns off and on
I had this installed and the radio is clipping in and out ( it will turn on and then turn off like it's a short in the wires) why is that?
Now it works after hours of researching everywhere to find an answer. Thanks You should retitle your video AS UPDATE. NO Sound FIX the pac rp5-gm31 issue for non bose/ non amplified systems. It might be easier to find cause that's mainly what I was look for were no sound.
Thanks so much for this. I couldn’t figure out why my stereo kept turning off at certain volumes. Greatly appreciated 🙌🏽
Yesssssuh...lol glad I could help
I have the interface connected but I'm not getting any power or sound🤔
It wont connect to the factory xm in my 07 mote carlo ss
Trying this tomorrow
I’m going to try this because I been having this exact problem. Thanks
Thanks for watching glad it helped.
***update*** bro it worked!!!! All facts!!! Thanks soooo much. I was about to buy a new deck until I watched this video!!! Now I don’t need a new aftermarket deck. Glad I found this video. Wired it exactly how you describe and now my highs and mids sound amazing!!! Thanks again. #newsubscriber
Im not getting any sound stereo turns on i hear chime.but no audio.??? Help!?!?!
make sure when you use this harness make sure the audio plug is in the right spot for amplified or non amplifed
I thought it had something to do with my Pioneer flip screen when it was up as the reason for it cutting off.
Ecellent vid. right to the point.
