Wanting to do this install on my 2010 suburban, have the same pioneer head unit used in the video. My Question/concern is after doing the install am I able to display a movie on the rear screens while having my apple CarPlay displayed on the head unit itself? Or will the rear screens display whatever is showing on the head unit?
Yes for anyone with this question. This is radio dependent, but most major brands will allow you to overlay your carplay while playing a DVD or other AV source. It doesn't mirror the front radio. Once again, depends on the radio manufacture, but especially with Pioneer, it works just fine. You can even take it a step further and go with a unit equipped with "dual zone' capabilities that allow you to play two different sources (two audio sources) separate on the radio (front seats / channels with different audio than the rear DVD / channels).
Nice upgrade from factory radio, but did you know you can retain the factory usb plug-in (if you have one) without any adapter... Yup, right under the centre console tray, just unplug the factory usb cable under the centre cupholder area and plug in the usb cable from the radio.
Thanks for the info. My 2010 denali just blacked out on the head unit and I'd rather update the head unit while retaining the DVD feature for my kids. No Bluetooth in 2010 denali

My dvd player stopped working about a year ago. The stock radio if fine, but we want to upgrade with bluetooth. Both radio and dvd will need to be integrated with the car speaker system and steering wheel buttons. Do you have a video that will show how to do this along with what type of radio and dvd player?
Will the factory screens operate exactly as they do with the factory radio? Specifically, if a DVD is playing or you are streaming, can you turn on music while the head unit plays a video and the headphones are playing the audio of what is on the screens? Hope that makes senses sense..

It would require a bit of manual wiring as there isn't an adapter to integrate an aftermarket flip down with the factory radio, so you essentially would need to find the video signal sent from the factory radio, slice into that signal and integrate an RCA cable for video, and supply that to your new screen. Your radio doesn't allow for video playback while in motion on the new radio, but can still display that image on the rear screens. It's a liability thing for the radio manufacture. There are ways to bypass that warning, but depends on the radio manufacture. Pioneer / Alpine will need a bypass relay (see my videos for that), most other brands, the parking brake wire can simply be grounded.
Factory screens are powered by the vehicle, independently from the radio, so they should be on each time you turn on the vehicle. If no image, then something is wrong with the video feed from your new radio.
