Josh I grew up living in a little town called Perely Minnesota and my backyard was just a skip and a jump from the Red River.Use to go fishing almost everyday with my Gramp. We moved to Southern Illinois when I was about 12 or so(the 618,lol)I sure miss living up there, but some of the floods were pretty bad.
I love your narration style. You talk to your viewers the same way that many of us would talk to a fishing partner who's right there in the same boat with them. There's none of that yelling and whooping it up that most UA-cam fishermen apparently think is necessary. I'm also a big fan of channel cats. Channel cats run big where I live too (big enough that news via the internet and InFisherman magazine has resulted in people coming from all over the Midwest to fish here in spring and early summer), but it's nothing like the Red River of the North!
I always appreciate your calm in the midst of pulling in some epic fish. You remain understated in the midst of extreme provocation (i.e., river monsters).
I like it when you show a little of the peripheral bits from your trips during the video, i.e. launching the kayak, the drive to or from the spot, or just the terrain from the land around the day’s fishing area. This video had just the right amount of that element. If a person has ever had to launch a small boat from a muddy spot, it’s easy to identify with the first couple of minutes of this video. We don’t get channel that go much above 10 lbs around here, so that last one was a real treat to see. Thanks again for making content that’s clean enough to watch with my little boy.
Matt, thank you for taking us along on another great fishing adventure - those were definitely some nice cats you caught. I see you are not too far from hitting 300K subscribers - it won’t be long. I am looking forward to seeing 1 million subscribers in the not too distant future.
It was hard as hell but I waited til sat....morning to watch this early. No kids up and birds are chirping. And of course coffee. Thx man for the video
That truly is a beast that you caught. When I was a kid in the early 60's, we fished the Red for catfish a lot. The odd thing is that I cannot remember anyone catching a cat over 10 lbs. Then about 20 years later the stories of big cats started to roll in. I even caught a 37 inch cat (PB) around 1988. Now it is not unusual to go out and catch a 10 to 20 pounder. I wish I could explain it, but I can't.
They cleaned the trash out and started to watch what was running into the red. After the big flood and they removed all those houses on the greenway in Grand Forks the fishing sure did improve. Even the walleye have gotten bigger, I caught one that was just over 25 lbs of the mouth of red lake river where it flows into the red.
It is the same here in new york. Seldom do you see channels in the hudson river over 30 inches but in the cleaner waters of the state up to 40 inches and over 20 plus pounds
Can't wait to see a video someday when you have your daughter with you! I just love taking my 4 year old son out with me as there are never any dull moments! Great stuff Matt!!!
My Grandfather was a born fisherman. He fed his family with fish during the Great Depression. My father and myself learned from his skills. I learn to fry fish from him also. You earned a new subscriber here mate.
Watching your vids has gotten me into kayak fishing. Just caught my first walleye today. 20 inch. Looking to hook my first catfish this weekend. I learn a lot about tackle and equipment from your videos. Thank you a ton!
You're not only the kind of dude that I'd love to sit and fish with, you're the kind of dude that I'd love to sit and have a beer with. Looking forward to more fishing videos.
I will never get tired of your content. I absolutely love watching and listening to you. I still watch old vids my favorite when you where fishing for small mouth an had 14 lb line and a musky slammed your hook
I thoroughly enjoy your videos and look forward to everyone of them. I love the simplicity of your kayak setup and how you catch tanks. Very easygoing and you inspire me to and remind me of what fishing is all about now I want to go fish for new species off my yak. Tight lines from California! 👊🏽 🎣
Definitely dont be shy to pull those Lines in and move spots after 10-20 minutes! I wouldn't be caught dead sitting anywhere near more than an hour at a spot unless bank fishing. Glad you had some luck eventually! Great vid! 👍
I grew up in Perely Minn, the Red River was in My Backyard and me and my Grampa would fish at both the wild rice River and The Red River.Caught and ate alota fish back in those days.i can still remember how bad it would flood and we would move everything to the upstairs and go stay with my Aunt who lived in Whapeton N.D,or with my cousins in Minneapolis.Lotsa great memories from that little Minnesota town along the Banks of the Red River of the North.
I always enjoy your videos and watch one every night before I go to sleep. I particularly enjoyed this one because it was something different. Thank you for doing these and I hope you will keep them coming.
I'm always impressed how well NDYakAngler handles his kayak. Alternating hands, paddle, and fishing rod(s) especially... a lot of things going on at once.
Nice to see those Quantum’s getting put to good use. Perfect where a lot of drag power is needed over the Daiwa’s and Shimano’s. But how those St. Croix rods handle those lead weights still amazes me! As always, thanks for bringing us along!
Your channel (subbed), should be a mandatory watch for this crazy society we live in. I enjoy your peaceful videos. And love your rig set up. Thank you sir!
We used to go channel catfish fishing but with 12-14 pound mono line. The ones we were catching were like the first one you showed. Took sometimes 15+ minutes to get one in. Used to used chicken to catch an eel then cut that up for the bait. Fun to fight on mono line just had to be careful to not rush it and never touch the line.
The second and third one is perfect eating size. Those St. Croix rods are beautiful, I have five St. Croix Triumph/Imperial spinner/fly rods....... St Croix rods are quality rods and hard to beat. My Imperial fly rods are over 20yo and look like I just bought them. Thanks for sharing your morning.
If I could post pics, I'm you're biggest copycat my friend!!! I power pole 18 in smallies on the plopper and have moments like you because of you! Thank you, nothing fights or bite's like a small mouth! I fish the Great Miami in Middletown Ohio!!!
My biggest fish was a channel cat off the shore on lake Erie, I was 12 years old, got him on a night crawler, I was so proud. I Wheeled the fish home in a shopping cart to show my big family, 6 kids, and my friends! Over 20 lbs...😂
You promised me a catfish video this week and you did not disappoint! Thanks a ton I love seeing more of these epic catfish.
I’m glad you enjoyed it! Sometimes it’s nice to just sit back and soak some bait!
@@ndyakangler Not any less of a workout when you hook into them though! Nice fish
I enjoyed to

he's Bob Ross :)
I love how individual catfish have so much character, especially when they get big.
I always appreciate your calm in the midst of pulling in some epic fish. You remain understated in the midst of extreme provocation (i.e., river monsters).
Wow, that last one really put your gear through its paces! I'm impressed at how much strain that pole took!

This is different and I love it! You should do catfish fishing more. And as always great video!
This is so relaxing to watch! when you finaly hook one i can also feel the rush! There is no better drug than the effect of hooking a big fish
It was hard as hell but I waited til sat....morning to watch this early. No kids up and birds are chirping. And of course coffee. Thx man for the video

Man that's allot of catfish from one single spot!! Very nice!
My Grandfather was a born fisherman. He fed his family with fish during the Great Depression. My father and myself learned from his skills. I learn to fry fish from him also.

That last one was a BEAST
Best way to start the morning 👌🏼 positive vibes today y’all, go be great
I love St. Croix rods and this shows how tough they actually are. Great fishing video you never disappoint.
Watching your vids has gotten me into kayak fishing. Just caught my first walleye today. 20 inch. Looking to hook my first catfish this weekend. I learn a lot about tackle and equipment from your videos. Thank you a ton!
My dad caught (at the time) the catfish record on croix in the 70s! Great vid
You're not only the kind of dude that I'd love to sit and fish with, you're the kind of dude that I'd love to sit and have a beer with. Looking forward to more fishing videos.
The calm cool..”got em”.. gets me every time. You the man Matt.
Great video as usual! I believe what you were hearing around the 7 min mark was a mourning dove, unless there was an owl I wasn’t hearing.
Yeah I think you’re right!
O how I miss catching cat with my dad. And boy are they great to eat to. 😋 thank you for the videos you bring back alot of good memories
This was great. Fun to watch. Some HUGE channel cats!
Awesome day on the river! Very therapeutic….Thanks!
I love hook sets that feel like mushy wood and make one wonder for a moment if it’s a fish or snagged debris. I crave it
St. Croix Triumph rods are no joke! Sure the Premiers, Avids, LTB's, etc are lighter and more refined, but those Triumph's can get it done!
I love watching you fish bud, your patience and attitude make it that much better. God bless and tight lines bro.
best youtuber on the platform!
Love your variety. True fisherman you are as you can catch any species. Channels are so underrated. Smaller than other cats but such good fighters.
Your videos are always so peaceful and you have an excellent speaking voice sir
You are always so calm. I love it👍😊👍
Great video, and a few very nice fish. Thanks for sharing this with everyone.
What a beautiful place to spend a summer morning and those quality fish makes it that much more fun!
Really aggressive catfish and man are they some powerful fighters. Awesome video. Thanks for sharing.
Great video. Something so relaxing and Zen-like about them. Great late-night viewing.
I will never get tired of your content. I absolutely love watching and listening to you. I still watch old vids my favorite when you where fishing for small mouth an had 14 lb line and a musky slammed your hook
I just got off that stretch of river, had a really nice muskie take a swipe at my Plopper but I didn’t get hooks in him.
6:47 that's a mourning dove calling in the background
Really enjoy your videos man…..living overseas and havent fished in several years so make me feel closer to home…keep em coming.
I know im late but I get a massive Bob Ross vibe from him talking. Him fishing is the same as Ross painting a picture. Love it
The best of the best.
Wow what a beast. Thank you for the show.
MORE. OF. THIS!!! Awesome!
With the gas prices as high as they are and this river close to home I might be making a few more trips there this summer!
This video is really making me want to take my kayak out and try for some catfish. Great video as always and some really nice fish.

Another great video! Love your fishing adventures! Watching from West Virginia!❤️👍🎣
I loved the catfish video it was a banger and hope to see more in the near future
I really like the Mustad Circle C hooks. 2-4 ought. They do a great job of hooking the fish without foul hooking them.
Love your videos, life's going pretty crazy right now... They somehow make for a great escape
I remember fishing with my dad on the Red when I was little. Man those were good times
Caught a couple absolute tanks! Love to see it.
Thanks, I enjoyed for sure. Big healthy channel cats.
