Just passed my test in January and bought this dashcam. I love watching the playback on tv of my driving (still feels surreal) as I try to be critical and figure out how I can improve each time. This video has been brilliant from the initial opening of the box and its contents; to hiding the wiring, navigating the functions and the playback. For a complete novice like me this has been incredibly useful, thanks so much!!!!
I bought one of these not long ago and have just left it in the car. I decided to to actually get it set up today and your video has made it really simple and straight forward to set up thanks.
bought one of these 2 weeks ago and it has been sitting in the box as I was unsure how to install it. after watching your vid I decided to grasp the nettle and have a go at it. Well blow me down, 10 minutes later it was up and running, don't know what I was worried about. many thanks for the information, very clear and understandable
This is how videos should be, easy to follow and informative. You must be a mind-reading because everything I wanted to know, you covered it! Thank you!
Fantastic tutorial. Haven’t bought a dash-cam yet just looking to buy one and thought id see how easily it is to fit this myself. Should manage no problem thanks to your easily explained video. 👍🏻😊
Thanks for this, my daughter wants one and up till now I had no idea how they worked. You have made installation and more importantly actual setup extremely clear. An excellent video.
Bloody brilliant, Superp video. I have just bought this camera and was wondering how difficult it was but now well assured how to use it, thanks so much, you went through it all. As for the wiring you under estimate yourself, absolutely first class job. Very well presented as well. Many thanks again. All the best Duncan.
I've had the Nextbase smaller (cheaper) version Model 212 for over two years and it goes everywhere with me. The idea of using the little device to give extra sockets is particularly useful if your 12v socket does not turn off with the ignition. You can get switched versions thereby leaving the 12v socket permanently connected and use the switches to isolate the dash cam etc. Absolutely recommend Nextbase, my little cam has been trouble free and gives excellent video. Nice tutorial, thanks.
Wow! Absolutely brilliant review. Told me 99% of what I needed to know. The 1% missing would be how long the battery lasts? Once again brilliant review. Thanks for uploading.
Great video easy to understand! I confess I've had my dash cam in a box for ages unsure of how to set it up, but like another user said so easy to install just needed that extra guidance! Thanks!
Jinda ~ Yes, I bought mine many months ago, with a 32Gb card, but only just this week paid my garage to install it professionally, looks very neat, but now I have to learn how to use it. I nned it to switch on and record as soon as I start driving, until I stop... and to record over used data, so that I always have the last 4 hours recorded... should be pretty simple, eh? There's no manual or instruction booklet, but there is a DVD in ths box, so I guess I have to watch that plus a few videos here on UA-cam. Simplicity would be nice, but that's damn difficult to find in the 21st century. I've been a computer user since 1980, which helps. Safe driving to all !
Vince, this is *superb*, thank you. Thorough and practical and with excellent advice. Also, I really like the fact that it's not all about you; I'm tired of watching five minutes of videos that are more about the UA-camr's ego and how bloody fab they think they are! I wish all guide videos on here were like this. Tremendous. Thanks for your help.
Brilliant video. I was dreading trying to install a dashcam in my new car, but did a really neat job as well in about 10-15 minutes. Don't think it would have looked so neat/hidden without watching this first.
What a fabulous, informative video - thank you sooooo much. As others have said, I so wish other UA-cam videos were like this, thanks a million - keep them coming.
Contrary to how you describe this installation, this IS a professional job. Well done, and than you so much for posting. I've just bought this very same dashcam from PC world and am now awaiting a 3m mini usb to usb cable .. :-) Great work ..
Wow this is awesome, I'm definitely gonna get dashcam next time, you gave an awesome instruction how to set up and I didn't know that dashcam existed. I'm definitely gonna buy it cuz I was pissed off of what happened nearly 4 years ago in November 2014 that taxi driver reversed and hit my car at the traffic lights. Making excuses that I hit his car and told me to pay it and he was trying to dupe me and it's a long story. Great video
One of the best review and guide video's I have seen in a long time very informative and easy to understand tjank you very much I am now off to buy this dashcam.
I use one of these, great little dash cam but if you rely on the suction mount it WILL keep falling off, usually at night and setting off the alarm. Next Base provide a permanent sticky pad fixing and I suggest you use that.
I use the WiFi on mine so I can playback on my iPhone. Then I use Apple TV to play anything I want to see again. Without cables! Was useful when giving evidence of a DD to the police and using tv). He was impressed with the set up!)
Nice vid, thanks. You explained the 'Video loop' process very well to the extent even I could understand it. Watched a lot of vids and just confused the hell out of me - I have a 32 meg card and thought (from watching other vids on here) it only used the first few minutes of it before it wiped it all and started over lol.
Fabulously helpful video for a technophobe like myself so Thank You. My only observation would be that Nextbase advise against securing the suction mount on 'spotted' areas of a windscreen as it is less secure than on regular 'flat' glass. That said, yours seems absolutely fine, and the recordings were crystal clear, so I would suggest that they are merely guarding against people complaining that the mount isn't performing correctly. Not nitpicking I promise as your video is excellent. Regards.
You might not think it wasn’t professional, but it was, and some professionals chat so much shit, you get lost in the actual information, so don’t put yourself done, very well done. Thanks
Brilliant video!!! I’m gonna instal my own dash cam after years of nagging my husband to do it for me. I’m off to get my own and show him that he’s useless.
Brilliant review, simple and precise. Where do you buy the plastic tools from to help push the wires out of sight, please? This is by far one of the best reviews on items I’ve seen in a good while. Thank you for doing it.
Excellent instructive video, many thanks for posting this. I am sorry but I didn't quite get how to retrieve a clip that has been saved. For example if one has captured an incident by pressing the exclamation mark. How is the file found?
I know I'm a little late to the party but where did you buy your cup holder charger from? It seems like a better option for me as I keep knocking the charger out of the cigarette lighter because it stands too tall. Putting one in the cup holder would hopefully solve my problem.
Hi Vince, Have just set up my camera like you said, looks really good with no wires showing. Can you tell me when you connected to your PC with the USB did you get 1 video at a time or did you get 2 ?? I get 2 for some reason , one is a P4 And one is a MP4 . Any idea’s ?????? Regards Duncan.
Hey Vince or anyone with one of these dash cams. I had a permanently fitted Dash cam and it got stolen cause it was a pain to take out of the car. The smashed the lock and put a nice size hole in my car door. Are these easy to remove from the car and put back in again. Thanks Vince or his viewers. Ps love your channel 😀😀😀😀
Great video just bought one wasn’t sure on right way to put memory card in put it in wrong at first it wouldn’t go all the way in.quite a tidy job on fitting.easy to understand now as I just copy what you done.took my worry away on using it.thanks.
Good instructions. One point though, the plastic stick you used to run the cable is absolute crap and will scratch the trim. You need a set of cheap nylon trim tools (cheap as chips on ebay etc). These will not scratch or mark any of the trim panels. I also give the tips a squirt of silicone.
Hi, if you type 'mobile phone spudger' into eBay or Amazon then you will see very cheap kits that have the blue tools included, I think they are made for prising phones apart.
SO MUCH EASIER THAN THE INFORMATION PROVIDED, BY NEXT BASE. DID YOU YOU UPDATE THE THE FIRMWARE. i TRIED AND THE SITE TELL ME MY CAMERA DOES NOT EXIST , EVEN ON A MANUAL SET UP. CRAP SITE FROM NEXT BASE. THEY SHOULD PAY YOU CHEERS.
Hi Vince. What a helpful video! Nextbase say not to attach the mount to the dotted area behind the mirror. Is this just because this area is not smooth.
It would be a disadvantage for you to do so.!.You need as much on camera as is possible to get, thats if you are using it for safety/ insurance purposes.Otherwise if your just filming for fun/holiday trips etc, you can edit the trip when you put it into your pc.
Down to earth chap, no hype, no music, clearly explained, wonderful. The only sort of person I will listen to.
This is so concise and well done! No big intros, no blaring music, no useless explanations! Thank you.

"... it's not a professional job..." I beg to differ mate, I reckon you did a top job there routing that cable!
I bought one of these not long ago and have just left it in the car. I decided to to actually get it set up today and your video has made it really simple and straight forward to set up thanks.
One of the best tutorials of a dash cam on UA-cam
bought one of these 2 weeks ago and it has been sitting in the box as I was unsure how to install it. after watching your vid I decided to grasp the nettle and have a go at it. It has been mentioned by other viewers of this video. Very clear, concise instructions. Brilliant video. Thank you.

Excellent. I had watched two recording by other people that told me nothing. This was exactly what I wanted to see. Many thanks.
Great video, I'm just about to install a Nextbase 312G with a 128gb card and this has helped a lot. Good to see that Nextbase give you lots of cable.

I was just thinking the same
David Culshaw t
Agreed! Great work
What a fabulous, informative video - thank you sooooo much. As others have said, I so wish other UA-cam videos were like this, thanks a million - keep them coming.
Thanks for taking the time to film this.. you have been a massive help!
Got to agree with the Geezer, spot on presentation , now waiting for the 612gw presentation from you.
Contrary to how you describe this installation, this IS a professional job. Well done, and than you so much for posting. I've just bought this very same dashcam from PC world and am now awaiting a 3m mini usb to usb cable .. :-) Great work ..
Excellent this guy should a teacher so good at describing the dash cam features 😀
Wow this is awesome, I'm definitely gonna get dashcam next time, you gave an awesome instruction how to set up and I didn't know that dashcam existed. Great video and thanks for doing it. I have just been given a Next Base 512 Dash Cam and your recording has been a great help.
I use one of these, great little dash cam but if you rely on the suction mount it WILL keep falling off, usually at night and setting off the alarm. Next Base provide a permanent sticky pad fixing and I suggest you use that.
Good info, thanks for sharing.

The best video 👌👌👌 like it a lot.... thank you
Good instructions. One point though, the plastic stick you used to run the cable is absolute crap and will scratch the trim.

Great. Very well explained. Thanks.
Amazing review mate !!
How much damage and scratches did you make during installation?

Hi Vince, can you direct me on where to buy the blue tools to push the cable into the pillars? Thanks
Hi, if you type 'mobile phone spudger' into eBay or Amazon then you will see very cheap kits that have the blue tools included, I think they are made for prising phones apart.
Good video mate👍

Hi Vince. What a helpful video! Nextbase say not to attach the mount to the dotted area behind the mirror. Is this just because this area is not smooth.
Well done mate
Do you have to have the wide field of view when uisng this or can I reduce the extreme wide angle ?
It would be a disadvantage for you to do so.!.You need as much on camera as is possible to get, thats if you are using it for safety/
insurance purposes.Otherwise if your just filming for fun/holiday trips etc, you can edit the trip when you put it into your pc.
Good review
Can the play back button be removed from the tv screen. Can’t see MPH whilst the video is playing on the TV
