- I grabbed a new Uniden iGO Cam 90R and set about installing it in a new Kia Seltos - don't let the cable dangle down from the dash, you can tidy things up with your own installation. Let me show you how to hide the cables powering your dashcam. It's easier than you think

Thanks so much for this great video. I had my reservations about routing the cable throught the trim but now I have seen how you did it, my faith in my own ability has been restored! Thanks so much for your help!
Thank you, you made it simple and easy to duplicate. It took me about 30 minutes to complete, front and rear camera. The wires just tucked right in from the front to the back in my Subaru Forester
This dash cam install is very much like how I did mine. I installed a front and rear Garmin 57. Worked out very well.
Easiest video to follow, was able to install quickly. Very clear directions!
Most modern cars have airbags under the a-pillar trim, I don't think it is a great idea to tuck your wiring up under the rubber like that. You can pop the trim off and run the wire above the airbag but you need to know what you are doing. There is a clip that retains the trim if the airbag deploys, if you don't know how to remove them you shouldn't be attempting it.
I think it is bad advice to suggest anyone puts anything between the airbag and the occupant who will be sitting in that seat.
This video made me feel much more comfortable with putting the wire throughout the car. Thank you!
Thanks so much for sharing this installation. At first we thought it might be too difficult to do it this way but after watching your video my husband had it done in about 20 to 30 minutes. Thanks so much. We also have a Kia Seltos. So far we love it.
You realise that this will effect the safety of the airbags, there are safe ways of installing one. You’re basically going to be playing Russian roulette if the airbags activate
@Just Shibal can explain what u mean please? I'm not sure where that cording would affect my airbags. Sorry if I sound ignorant but I don't see how that little cording would mess with my airbags. Thank you.
@@charlottehaeckl4576 the rear camera cable should ideally be routed along the bottom of the cabin. That usually requires removing some plastic trim below the doors. There are some other videos showing that.
@@charlottehaeckl4576 what he means is, airbag is deployed with significant force, if the cable is in its way it can pull the camera off the window right in your head
Thousand people did the same think hard way but you show us very easily .Thank you
the window pillar plastic trim (white in the video) just pulls off, grab it at the top and pull it towards you, it will pop off and the cable can be routed behind it, modern pillar trims have channels for wires built in for cameras, cabin lights, speakers, microphones etc, to refit just line up the holes with the locating lugs and slowly push it back into place, try not to push the wires into gaps with tools as squeezing wires in with tools can damage the wires, if you need to push any wires into gaps use some folded up card as that will not damage any wires, I've fitted four front & rear view cameras now and the first one I fitted I damaged the internal wires by pushing it in with a stiff plastic tool and the rear camera would not record anything, I could view the image but not record it so I had to buy a new cable and then it recorded, but to look t the cable you couldn't see any damage, so think before you use any pressure on these cables, the internal wires are very thin, just a few strands and easily broken, hope this helps anyone about to fit this type of camera, it is a good video just needs a few weeks,
Great video. I just installed mine and followed the same principles of hiding the cables. Looks great!
Thanks 🙏 such a helpful video. I have never known how easily it is until get into it.
Amazing! Easy explanation! Just got mine and needed help installing! Thanks mate !
Loved the front installation but wish you had done the rear wiring as well
Many thanks for this - much easier with your guidance than I anticipated!
Well... that WAS easy!
I didn't even need a tool, just jammed it in with my fingers.
Didn't think it would be that easy, thanks!
Thank you for the Installation share and how to easy hide the cables this help me a lot! 💖
Brilliant video. This is the Best video I’ve seen on this topic. Thank you so much, you have given me the confidence to have a go. Really grateful.
Trev, I am wondering how you fitted the long cable to the rear camera? All new cars have side curtain air bags fitted, what are the problems/dangers of pushing the cable along the door opening trim above the doors where the side curtain air bags are fitted?
Nicely done sir.
best instructional video ever. Thank you Sir.
Best presentation hands down 💯 thank you for this guide ✌
Thank you so much for this! Took me like 5-10 minutes, and it was so easy! Some advice I have - do it on a warm day, or in a warm place. The plastic was nice and flexible because it's 25C today
Think I'll leave the car to bake a bit in the sun. Thanks for the tip!
Don't do it with the AC on
Probably better with the heater on.
Simple installation, could be better with an actual hard power wire to the fuse panel to run only when engine is turned on. As for a rear camera, just run the rear camera wire as he did for the cig lighter wire and then run the rear camera wire to the rear under the rubber seal.
Be careful of the placement of the wire on that a-pillar. If there is a air bag under the molding with the wire may restrict the deployment of cut into the bag upon deployment and it will not deploy correctly. Since this is the UK there may not be an airbag in that pillar. If there is an airbag in the pillar just remove that a-pillar trim molding and run the wire UNDER the airbag,.
Under, as in behind the airbag?
@@andrewwoodward9165 maybe he means under as in vertically below the airbag
Thank you!
I was wondering what to do, as my vehicle only has usb-a and usb-c in the front (no power port), and they are both being used. There ARE two: one at the back of centre console, and one WAY at the back near the hatch.
Thought about using the fuse panel and that’s what I was looking for. But not sure how (hot to fuse, black grounded to metal?).
Maybe splice into the rear console power at the front of the console?
This video isn’t in the UK. He has an Australian accent. Also, the UK and Australia aren’t third world countries and they need to meet similar safety standards as the US, so yes there are definitely airbags in those a-pillars.
Very well explained. Thank you so much!
Very useful tutorial. I've just hidden my camera cable in Mazda 2 and it looks awesome!
So much better, horrible having cables dangling around!
Thank you for sharing this content. Huge help!
Thanks for your video I was able to install both front and rear cam......I really appreciate it. Nice video. Am from Jamaica 🇯🇲 u save me alot.
This video was very helpful thank you.
First time I seen your channel
Some really good video and good advice brilliant 👍🇬🇧
thank you for your sharing, very good instruction for beginners
Great work.very helpful
Thanks a lot for the video, it works wonderfully.
Great video. I did mostly the same thing just now after watching your install except in a Kia Soul.
Glad to see someone else did this with a Kia Soul. Lets me know if I can do it with mine as well.
god i fucking hate kia souls
absolutley amazing
Best guide! thank you
Just what I was looking for. Tidy.
Take the extra time. A dash camera takes me minimum 1 to 2.5 hours on average (if there's a rear camera). Take apart more panels and don't run wires in front of side curtain airbags.
Solid vid cheers
Thanks for uploading this 👍
Nice tutorial sir...btw,mind sharing what kind of phone holder you are using now?
Thanks! I’ve been driving with dangling cable for 2 years, for no good reason apparently
Just what i was looking for except your steering wheels on the wrong side 😮
Thanks for taking the time to do this video. I was hoping you would show installation of the rear camera because it comes with a long cable and I have a small car so I've ended up with several feet of extra cable. How do you handle that to hide it? I've run the cable through the passenger side and now those loops of extra cable are tucked up on top of the sun visor when it's in the up position but of course, that's out of sight this minute but won't work when I need the visor down (a LOT of the time). Do you have a solution?? thanks
Waiting, too. 😮
thanks i did it ! i was not installed more than one year lol it was in front of the middle mirror
Well done - thanks.
excellent video mate , same is U3000 Dash cam?
Will doing this effect the seals on the car at all?
I have the same camera but different "brand". I would say that being taller, I mounted higher and not centered; its a wide angle lense, so dont be too specific about being center.
Great I was afraid to go on that corner on the roof to the door
Thank you so much!!
Good job Sir - Save me some money by doing my self. Thanks a bunch .
Saves you money for sure, but it does need to be done safely. But paying someone to do it doesn't guarantee a safe job will be done. I had someone ignore the airbags (and telling me that my 2017 VW Golf didn't have side airbags) and wiring it to be always on, which would have done great things to killing my car battery. And they wanted $220 for doing the job.
Class. Easy. Thanks
What is that little tool called, if I want to order one on Amazon ?
Nice watch ,what make is it
What about side airbags, is this going to cause an issue?
Do you have a video showing how to install a rear camera?
I have installed 2 different dash cams. However my new truck has the 12v supply on the top of the dash. How do hide or secure the wires on the top of the dash so it doesn’t look just placed there
really great help thanks muchly!
Good job sir
Correct me if I am wrong. You have installed the wire on the A Pillar over the curtain airbag. This will interfere with the deployment of the curtain airbag and is a safety issue.
wiring that router over around the A-pillar is a big no-no as the pillar airbag once deployed, the wire wound be flying off like a bullet..... only run the wire along the windshield and A-pillar seam......
I think if the airbags go off the cable is the least of your worries 😂
Can't even spell would.
Great
I will now install like this in my Kia Optima
I don’t like this type of dashcam that plugs into the 12v. It means that it's only on when the car is turned on since power is cut off to the accessories when the car is turned off. If you have a dashcam that has a monitoring mode when parked, you have to hardwire it to the fuse box.
Thanks boss !!!
How do you power the back camera though
It plugs into the front camera
Can you do another video on reverse cam setup please?
The single cable connecting the rear to front camera supplies both power and video.
Thanks... no accidents for me..
I hard wired my dash cam using an add a fuse but no power. The fuses are good, cable is brand new and wired up right. One to the fuse, one to ground. What am I doing wrong?
can we see installation of the rear cam please
Great video Thanks for posting it. BUT you really need to return that car. The factory put the steering wheel on the wrong side !
this is Australia, we drive on the right seat
Lmao
I know right! He needs to return that car ASAP.
@David Feery-Richards no the real idiot is someone who doesn't realize it's a joke....
how long was your cable ?
1:32 mins (
And for 360 car surveillance, when parked?
what's the tool you are using?
Thank YOU !
Its like a Sirius XM antenna install. I have never done this or been able to hide the wires. Its just out there. Get a cheap Dash cam and don't break the bank, a risk but you have to live
3:00 That is actually not a good idea. In most cars there is the airbag exactly under this spot.
By routing the cable over the Airbag you prevent it from expanding normally when the airbag sould deploy.
I've heard that the airbag will just rip through the cable, the force is enough to loosed and rip through those plastic bits so a cable should not be too much of an obsticle, or so i have heard.
@@BearZA_91 Yes: I can confirm that, but such airbags are designed in a way that the point deployment is calculated to the precise millisecond that the airbags effectiveness is maximized based on accellarationsensors all over the car.
Even if the airbag rips through the wire small obstacles like a wire will definitely reroute the airbags route of deployment.
The interior of the pillars aren't a problem, because they are designed together with the airbag, but such a cable definitely is
@@leondrews1so what do you recommend?
Ok, safety is paramount! Disconnect the battery completely for about 20 minutes before working around the A-pillar. Last thing anyone wants is an accidental AirBag deployment! SAFETY FIRST
Thank you, saved from the hassle of opening the a pillar.
What’s the little tool you use to help stick in the wire thanks
It's a small piece of plastic that most dash cams ship with. If you don't have one, the back of a plastic spoon will do just one as long as it isn't sharp. A sharp pry will ruin the cable and parts of your car.
Where can got Camara security from Camara back Camara with the 24.7 cable to fuse
thanks trevor
What kind of camera is this?
Is there no wireless options that you can just charge???
would have liked to see wiring the back camera
Thanks 👍
most airbag is fitted behind the A bar, It may kill you, should remove the cover, put cable behind the airbag !
Most cars don't have cigarette lighters. And where do you plug your rear camera to?
All cars have a 12v port which is what the cigarette lighter is now called and used as and the rear camera feeds through from the front to the back
2:34 One of these' i didnt get one 0 what is it please?
Almost thought I finally found the right video of how to hide cable. I can't figure out installing the rear camera; how to hide cables along side interior and at the rear window or outside by the plate. 😢 Guess I'll keep searching. I shouldn't have to pay an expert over $100 to install.
I returned mine. The installation was just too difficult. I don't have the patience for that.
Pop the A-Panel off and put the wire behind the airbag dude. If the airbag deploys someone's going to get messed up really bad...
This is important! Cable/s should be placed behind any air bag. Its reasonably easy to remove the pillar cover (just check a youtube vid).
Routing the cable properly and hiding behind the glove box makes a professional job all round.
I generally like your work Trev, but seriously you should be putting the right message out there to the public.
If your not confident to do it properly then get an expert 🙂
What brand of camera is that Sir? Thanks
He said it's a Uniden
Whats KN?
Hi guys just quick? rear camera required separate memory card? Cheers
No, single memory card in front of
Incredibly usefull. So much for that.
Won't the hot sun hitting the windshield loosen the sticky pad that the dash cam is mounted on?
Those 3M pads don't mess around, not your run-of-the-mill double sided tape...
I can't find a decent phone holder for this reason. All pop or slide off and never permanently stick.
I wouldn't meddle with the plastic and linings ..... it's 21st centry I'm surprised no dash makers come up with rechargeable ones that can also be pair Bluetooth to the rear....
I guess dash tech currently is still TOM TOm GPS era of the early 2000s
Nice work. This can be avoided by having a USB port in the rear view mirror like some cars have.
What do you think of the Seltos?
Like everyone can afford to have a car with a usb port in the rear view mirror. I’m sure this on very new cars only
People like me are idiots, we don't know how to route the cables to the rear. There are so many more variables when routing the cable to the rear camera since the cable has more real estate to cover, especially if they have a lift gate. You should've recorded that.
It will work when car inside the parking ...i mean i need for night when my car in parking
