    Funny; Looks like they catch as many shrimp with THIS boat (using less fuel) then the "Parker" with a larger net. Dollar for dollar, looks like THIS is the way to go... especially with a smaller crew of people.

    • @SaltyReflections
      @SaltyReflections  10 місяців тому

      I can't complain about the amount of shrimp we caught using this smaller boat powered by the Yamaha 90 4 stroke pulling our 25' net. The Parker's 5.7 Mercruiser pulls the bigger 40' net just as cheap as this one. It doesn't need to turn as many rpms to pull the net. It was hard for me to believe it was burning around the same amount of fuel. The Parker sucks down way more fuel on plane than this one. It only gets around 2 mpg on plane, and this 17' Sea Hunt gets around 5.5 mpg. The 25' Parker is three times as heavy as the 17" Sea Hunt. .

    I really enjoyed this video. I am not a fisher person. But I LOVE shrimp. I learned new things tonight. I always wondered how non-commercial shrimpers caught the shrimp. It was very interesting, informative and was a lot of fun to watch.
    I think LeGrand had such a good time, he will be excited to go again. Thank you very much for sharing with us. Blessings

    • @SaltyReflections
      @SaltyReflections  2 роки тому +1

      This is commercial shrimping. We have to have a commercial license to pull a trawl net in SC. There are a couple of different shrimping methods used that are non-commercial here.(bait shrimping and deep holing) Yes, Legrande had a great time and he's been steady asking about going back. We haven't been back yet but he did get to go with some of our good friends this past weekend. They wrecked them.

    Wow! Wow! Wow!
    How fantastic! My first time ever, shrimping with Salty Reflections and LeGrande. This has sure made me smile. It's a gorgeous sunny day here in Gippsland so it's easy for me to imagine being in South Carolina with you all.
    I love shrimp and can't wait to see what you do with them. So many! It's definitely hard work, but the reward of all those shrimp and fish. Plus feeding the birds and the dolphins - so close to the boat - unbelievable!!
    Sadly, I am unwell again today, so in bed just resting, but being with you shrimping has so cheered me up! Thanks again for all your hard work - on the boat and editing these fantastic videos.
    Prawn cocktails here we come! Yummo! Lol! As always, take care; God bless; and keep safe, with lots of love from your friend Down Under, Sharon in Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. xo xo.

I was born at Beaufort Memorial Hospital and lived on St. Helena Isl. Seaside Rd./Frogmore as a kid. I was there in 85 visiting family...CRAB, SHRIMP & OYSTERS ARE IN MY BLOOD AND PART OF MY DNA! The smell of the inlets swamp mud gives me Goose Bumps! Love watching your action channel, thank you! Is that the causway bridge goin from Beaufort to St. Helena??? My heart missed a beat when Steph threw that GOURMET Sand Dab back!!! Ship all San Dabs to me please! LOL💯💥💫

      Welcome! We're glad you found our channel and we thank you for watching! The bridge in this video is the one that crosses from St. Helena Island to Habor Island. It's right pass Gay's Shrimp Company. It replaced the old narrow turn bridge that was there. The Sand Dab(flounder) that Steph threw back was to small. We call people that love this area and our videos Saltaholics. LOL! Stay safe and God bless!

We're just showing you all the things we truly love, if we didn't, we'd quit. We eat a lot of the shrimp we catch and use it for bait. Depending on your depth if less than 8’-10’…you will catch ‘more’ when NOT keeping your ‘wheel/prop’ wash in between your ropes…slight turn more successful! Bigger engines not recipe for larger trawls…light shallow draft boats tend to ‘slide/skid’…especially flat bottom boats: BIG misconception-reason(s) hard to make turns!!!!!!!!!!!! Great video guys. That's a great haul for sure. I'm still undecided on how I feel about the by catch. The lady's comment about being MacDonald's and that the dolphins would be eating these by catch fish anyway is correct. I feel like it would be better if the dolphins were catching their own rather than being "fed" . I appreciate netting the shrimp for food, I've been harvesting my own food for many years. Not sure if I will purchase a net to do the same. I don't agree with most methods regarding commercial harvesting. I realize it's a way to make a living for many people. I saw many juvenile fish including sharks being released in bad shape. I'm not a tree hugging liberal by any means, trust me. Just my thoughts, not judging.

    • @SaltyReflections
      @SaltyReflections  2 роки тому

      I agree, there's a lot of by catch. We never like when we're seeing a lot of it in our trawl net but it's just the easiest method that we've found for catching shrimp and filling our freezer. We do try to save as much of the by catch as we can to use in our crab traps. Just our way of trying not to be wasteful. Glad you enjoyed the video!

    • @SaltyReflections
      @SaltyReflections  Рік тому

      LOL. Yes, you're working hard. Drop your pull ropes with a 10 lb anchor with rope and a bouy attached to it. Then go around to your tail bag. You need a rope and bouy attached to the front of your tail bag. They will pull behind your net as you pull. They also give you a rope to pull on if you hang your net on something on the bottom. The system works great. You'll need 2 ropes around 20 ft, 2 bouys, and 1 anchor. Happy shrimping, man. Enjoy.

    Great video! That's a ton of work but certainly worth it. I wonder, with the huge number of seafood restaurants up and down the coast do you sell any of your harvest or freeze it all? After all, fuel is unbelievably expensive these days!

    • @SaltyReflections
      @SaltyReflections  2 роки тому +1

      We freeze enough for us to eat throughout the year and keep a lot of the small shrimp for fish bait. We sell what we can when we catch to much and give bait shrimp to our friends that love fishing too. When we can get rid of what we catch it allows us to go back. Our freezer space is limited and we know we can't use but so much. It cost us around $100 in gas to trawl a day.
