      Thanks so much! We're as southern as they come. We were both born and raised in the midlands of SC in a small town and fell in love with the coastal area. I (Oliver) love spending time with others who need a little help from time to time. I also love spending time with kids who get excited about the same types of things I love. It makes my day to know I've worked hard to put a smile on others' faces. I've been having a hard time videoing lately, but I definitely don't want to give up. It's not like me to give up on anything. Thanks again. Your comment helps encourage me.

      Our ɓoat ran great all the way to the trawl area, and while we were pulling the trawl net. She started showing her butt on the way back to the landing. That's my luck. It wasn't getting enough fuel. I changed the fuel filter today. I'm hoping the old filter was getting bad. I'll see how it does tomorrow.

    I would love to come there on vacation and pay you two to take my husband and I shrimping. We are 66 years old and I have to sit. I can't stand no more than 10 minutes. But I can sort fish and pull heads off shrimp. I would love to go looking for sea shells also, but I need a wheel chair for riding in sand. I told my husband to get me a big pile of shells and I would sit on the beach and sort thru them. You two get me excited about all your videos. Crabing would be fun, fishing, catching lobster. It would be fun to forge for you on food. God Bless and stay safe. We are both retired and need a vacation. Have not been on one in 12 years. LOL

      12 years 😳 Yes, ma'am, I would say you're way over due for a vacation! Sorry to hear of your mobility issues, a boat would be tough to bear. Being in the boat kills my back & neck after a couple of days of it or if it's rough water, so I know eventually I won't be able to handle it either. 😖😢 It's one of the reasons why we try to enjoy it as much as we can while we can. Thanks so much for joining us for the shrimping adventure! 🦐🦐

    Y'all are getting better with every drag. Something that helps me with putting the trawl out is picking an RPM to set it out at. Instead of a little faster I ask for 1200 rpm to start and go from there. As long as you teach the driver to read the tach it works good.

    • @SaltyReflections
      @SaltyReflections  Рік тому

      Stephanie's being a little cautious. LOL. The throttle on this boat is stiff and she don't want the boat to take off fast causing issues. The boats not going to take off too fast. It's around 7000 lb. She's doing great if you ask me.

Now all we need is a shrimp catch/clean/cook video 😊 I like to soak them in Italian dressing and grill them but if I'm wanting to save on time, I just mince some garlic, melt some butter in a pan, throw in a little salt and lemon pepper and cook them about 5 minutes. Throw them in some pasta and you good to go. (now I'm hungry)

    • @SaltyReflections
      @SaltyReflections  Рік тому

      Yes, we have to have a turtle excluder because we're using a winch. No TED is needed for boats not using winches or devices to pull their net.

  • @pammager7135
    @pammager7135 Рік тому +2

    Hi Oliver and Stef and Legrand! That whole process of setting the net out sure looks complicated! I like seeing what is in the net when you pull it in! The variety of sea life! The weather sure turned nasty for awhile. Glad the ocean is calming down for you all! Safe travels....

    • @SaltyReflections
      @SaltyReflections  Рік тому +3

      Yes, setting the net and ropes up to deploy has to be done correctly for the way we trawl. As you can see in the video, I don't like anyone being around the net or ropes as we're letting them pull out of the boat. Legrande wants to help, but I'm terrified of someone getting tangled up. The last thing I need is for someone to end up hurt. I'd rather be the one taking the risk. The net that we're using now has a T.E.D. that's kicking all the bigger fish, stingrays, and turtles out as we trawl. I like it. It's helping us out and helping the wildlife.

  • @onetime7539
    @onetime7539 4 місяці тому +1

    Very impressive how far you’ve come with trawling. Didn’t show a lot of the picking like earlier videos but the TED really does seem to limit the bycatch. It would be great to see how you come back around to pull up the cod end and discuss the techniques.

    • @SaltyReflections
      @SaltyReflections  4 місяці тому

      Thanks. The TED does a great job directing the bigger bycatch out of our net. The technique ww use is described throughout our shrimp trawl videos. I can't remember which one.

      @jasonandstephaniewise5068 we don't. We have never made it. We'll have to check it out & see if we can come up with a good one.

  • @johnbabyaywbojjrgejkeoeojj8896

    If you had a trynet , you wouldn’t have to use big net to find the shrimp 🦐 , not use so much gas to find the shrimps and cut work of set and bring in big net !

      I understand, we're just working with what we have. I have a 25' net that I'd rather use but it doesn't have a TED. I really don't like using the bigger net.

      I’ve been trying to tell them about a try net. They need to go on a big boat so they would understand how the industry works.

      @@kyleleago9744 I've seen videos of how the big boats work. I don't see a way that we could manage a big net and a small net.

    Yay another shrimping video!!!! I love all y’all’s videos but my favorites are the shelling, crabbing and shrimping!! For me it’s the excitement to see how many crabs are in each pot and the shrimp is what’s in the net besides tons of shrimp. Thanks so much for sharing as always. So glad y’all had a better day this time❤❤

    We are happy to go shrimp trawling with yawl today! Thank you for the inside scoop on the boat struggles… Everything has it’s own unique importance that contributes to the catch…and lets not forget the weather… a light sprinkle and a cool breeze are sometimes the best days! LaGrande was definitely in his element! Good times shared with family and friends make the best memories! We have decided to make a collage of photos of all of our favorite ‘UA-camrs’ and hang it up on the wall in our family room…Salty Reflections will have a spot there too! We just pause the TV screen and snap a picture! Yawl have a great week, catch plenty of ‘jumbo hot dawg scrimps’ and dont forget to replace your windshield wiper and the board blocker for your sorting deck. Hey, you could just buy a weighted door snake to hang from the side of the counter and just plop it up there when needed…you know what I’m talking about…Its like a long skinny bean bag thing…And it wouldn’t hurt to keep a package of baby wipes in the cabin so Steph can clean up that spilt coffee🤣☕️💦🙌🏼🛥️🦐🦐🦐🦐🦐🦐🦐🦐🦐🦐🦐🦐🦐🦐🦐🦐🦐🦐
