Looks great. The video presentation is first class. Straight to the point, no stupid loud music and a pleasure to watch. I’ll be looking out for your other videos. Thanks.
Totally agree. I hate videos that have 45 seconds of introduction, then 3 minutes of them telling you about what they did last summer and then get to the point.
I'm posting this to give people encouragement. I made these last weekend. I screwed up the flour measurements and the batter was thick and gloppy. No problem, I set it aside to rise anyway. An hour later I realized I also screwed up the yeast measurement, so added in more yeast, stirred and let rise for an hour. Realized that I screwed up the salt too, so added that in and gave it a good stir. Heated up the cast iron skillet. If warm is good, warmer is better right? So, put in my butter, added the rings, waved aside the smoke created by the burning butter and poured my concrete batter right into the rings. By the time I tried stopping the pour, I had filled the rings to the top. No problem, with all the smoke in the kitchen, who would notice? I then watched in horror as the batter began to multiply, rising rapidly in the intense heat, pouring over the sides of the rings and onto the skillet, creating a gentle aroma of burning flour and salt. Time to remove the rings. Easier said than done as I couldn't see them anymore. They had disappeared somewhere in the four crumpet volcano's I had created in my pan. No fear, I dug right in, searching for them with the veracity of a dog digging for a bone, which, btw, creates a smaller mess than I did in my pan. However, I succeeded finding my rings, removed them, and used my hand to set them down on the counter. After the pain stopped from the impromptu branding I gave myself as the rings were glowing red I turned to my crumpets, which by now had ceased cooking because food can only burn so far. Into the trash they went, and not learning much from my experience, or maybe I'm just a stubborn old man, I used up the rest of my batter with a bit more success. End results were crumpets that actually tasted great, but looked like something you'd feed prisoner's of war. Lesson here: sometimes, even when you are a good cook, things go wonky on you. I make great bread, but admit I really screwed up here. No worries...I'll be doing it again now that I've refreshed my knowledge with this great video and instructions. Don't give up, if things go wrong chalk it down as you learning a way not to do something. Success awaits, so onward!
I just made these. I'm an Aussie who grew up eating bought ones. Years ago bought ones were yum but now they have no flavour or puffiness. I can say this recipe made really fluffy, puffy, airy, and very tasty crumpets that were filling but light to eat. They had that fresh bread feel that only comes from homemade yeast products. They were easy to make. You do have to test the best temperature for your heat source and pan. You don't need a deep egg ring like the one used in the video. You can use a shallow one but just fill it to the top. I also used a large shallow burger ring to make larger crumpets and that worked as good as a small egg ring. I halved the recipe and it made six crumpets - using a larger ring than the video.
Just made these and I'm really pleased with the results. They're very light and airy. I've made crumpets using Paul Hollywoods recipe a couple of times but they're always a bit doughy and the recipe is more complicated. This recipe is highly recommended! I've been a very keen baker all my life and love it when i master a procedure. Ifollowed the recipe in the video to the letter. I got 12 from the batter. They look slightly deeper than in the video. I poured a bit more in the rings. Also even though my rings are supposedly non stick I found I needed to make sure they were well buttered to stop them sticking to the rings. This will be my go to recipe from now on. Xx

I just made these. OMG! Couldn’t wait to taste them. My first batch were a little too thick. (Too much batter in the mold) The second batch are just right. In all honesty, I couldn’t wait for them to cool completely so they were soft and a little chewy. When they get cold and are toasted they will have the toaster crunch. I made 14 crumpets with this batter. I had to converted the grams to ounces, since I couldn’t get my scale to change to grams. I also made diy light flour. Nothing too hard. I will certainly make these again! THANK YOU!!! I have missed good crumpets.

My batter was too viscous and I overfilled my rings on my first attempt. After thinning the batter it was easier to fill the rings half full. I made twenty crumpets using the attached recipe. Keys to success: batter must be pourable, fill rings 50% and cook low and slow! Thanks for sharing your recipe.

I have been trying to make my own Crumpets for ages now with no luck. I came across this by accident today and my Crumpets came out perfectly! The secret Is to leave the batter to rise for at least an hour and a half to at least double. Also, once you mix the batter, as per this video, pour It Into the jug you will use to pour Into a frying pan rather than pour the risen mixture from a bowl - so the bubbles keep!

Thank you so much for providing this tutorial. Here in my neck of Florida, crumpets are only found in British specialty shops which are few and far between and the crumpets are rubbery. I halve your recipe and get a dozen fluffy, delicious crumpets. The first two get eaten right away (I can't resist) and the rest are parked in the fridge to eat during the week. Thank you again for this video. My best to you and yours. Stay home and stay safe. xo
Matthew Stewart There is a Trader Joe’s in St Pete, but it’s even further than the British shop. But these homemade crumpets are easy to make and are simply delicious. Thanks for the suggestion, though!

Didn't get as many bubbles as you, probably from mixing the batter down and adding the additional milk. Will try again with a looser batter. Taste great though! Thank you!!!
Normally when I eat crumpets I put butter on them, when the butter melts into the crumpets I add some more, then repeat a few more times. I did once have them with chicken curry sauce (Malaysian style with coconut milk), they were superb.
Great walk through order non stick rings will give them a go soon look delicious ... your muffin recipe I’ll give that a go too so different to the one I’ve been using thank you for straight forward recipes
Hi, I love the simplicity of your videos, short and to the point. Is there a way to make the crumpets using the sourdough starter? If so, could you please make a video! :D
You can with sourdough starter. But that uses water like the commercial ones. But if you add 100g started, just remove 50g flour and remove about 48g milk
This is very nice and clear. I set out to make this this morning, and half way in decided to look at some instructions! I think I can say for sure that those bubbles are NOT AIR! (Carbon Dioxide). It would be good enough to just say "bubbles". Well, let's watch it again and then go heat up some pans!

Gold, I have always heard that home made crumpets are so much better and jeez, there is nothing to that recipe except waiting for the batter. Will be giving this one a go, cheers
@@CulinaryExploration So, finally got Crumpet rings (surprisingly hard to get when you live so far from people.) Did try a traditional Crumpet recipe first before to give a decent comparison and your recipe tops it easily, I was really impressed by how your crumpets soaked up the flavours of the jam and butter.
Loved it during my stay in UK in 2015-16... (wartburtons) ... watching now with my Kids and they are like super excited and expecting me to do it soon 😀❤️.. this is a must try and I got no choice 😊😊👍
I felt a sudden pang of hunger and memory flash-back as soon as I saw them. "Mum, what's for tea?" "Crumpets and". What's 'and' you say. Butter, dribbling onto your chin, plus toasted cheese or ham or marmalade or jam or honey or ... ...happy days, lovely grub, thanks Mum!
A great British tradition... the most underrated tea time / breakfast snack in Europe... and so easy to make... cannot remember ever seeing this in any hotel... but a joy to eat..thanks for the recipe...🙂😋
You are right, now that you mention it I haven't ever seen them in any hotel or possibly in any tea shops. I absolutely love them simplicity at it's best!
Love crumpets. Now I have to make them. Purchased crumpets about a year ago. Took them out of fridge and toasted 2 and left the other 4 in the plastic bag in which they came. As I said, I purchased them a year ago. I never finished the other 4. They are still in the same bag and have never moulded. They have not gotten hard. They look ok BUT I'm not eating them. I have kept them just to see how long it will take for them to rot. Ew!! So now I am glad to see your recipe. Thx.
That looks like a very easy recipe. I always thought crumpets would be hard to make. I was surprised that the actual cooking was done in a frying pan. I recently rediscovered crumpets, having not eaten any for years. So I bought a packet from the supermarket and found them very tasty. I like my crumpets to be really well toasted and using the eye-level grill is better than using a toaster, as you can keep checking on the "doneness" easier. I don't just eat 'em with jam, but with maple syrup, Primula cheese, or potted shrimps.
A crumpet has a more rubbery texture, but not at all in bad way, they make a quite good mini pizza also, just put the tomato paste, spices and cheese on the cooked crumpet and bake as usual for pizza. Toasted with strawberry jam is excellent, that is so true. I am looking forward to my first home made crumpet, I have only had the packet, supermarket variety.
Being interested in British culture, I always thought scones were the number one cakes for afternoon tea, but they are much harder to make properly. I believe crumpets are gong to be much easier, I will definetly try to cook that as soon as possible. Thank you very much for this video!
Mine will have imported Irish butter and homemade mango jam. Strawberry is my second favorite... or apple butter. Ooo...cream cheese and guava jam!!! Yup, I'm going to have to make these regularly!🤣

Normally when I eat crumpets I put butter on them, when the butter melts into the crumpets I add some more, then repeat a few more times. I did once have them with chicken curry sauce (Malaysian style with coconut milk), they were superb.
Oh yummy!!! I looooove peach preserves on crumpets. So, so good.
I have been making English muffins from recipes on UA-cam but I’m going to try these. They look awesome! Much lighter.
Omgosh i love crumpets, with jam, cheese and ham, pancake syrup.
Yummy!
Great receipt, well explained!
Thank you for sharing!
Edith, from Singapore!🇸🇬⚘⚘⚘
Fantastic, don't have to wait for relatives to bring them from England no more. Thanks for the recipe
Wow Looks amazing and delicious thanks for sharing
I followed this video and they have been amazing!!!
Awesome buddy. Pleased you’ve enjoyed the recipe 👍
I love mine simply with lashings of melted butter and nothing else!
Golden syrup. Don't forget the golden syrup.
@@KevinBower-gy5be too sweet! I don't have a sweet tooth......
@@KevinBower-gy5be no, honey
And some good tea, ahhh...😍
Crumpets are my favourite! I love them with hot butter and avocado! Sooo good
Great walk through order non stick rings will give them a go soon look delicious ... your muffin recipe I’ll give that a go too so different to the one I’ve been using thank you for straight forward recipes
They are super easy and actually I know quite a few Americans who can make proper crumpets!
Thanks for showing us Yanks - how easy it is to make these delicious crumpets
looks easy, gonna give it a go, thanks
poached eggs and water cress let the yolk run through simply awesome
Excellent video, and the clarified butter is a must! And easy to make
That crumpet is perfect!
Cheers!
Thank you. You're among the best!
Great video. Thanks. I've seen other recipes use baking soda/powder and caster sugar. Would it hurt to add to your recipe?
adddddddd the worm miolk to the batthah, you know he's the real deal, I'm so totally following this one true recipe with absolute confidence and no doubt
GORGEOUS CRUMPETS!
Gold, I have always heard that home made crumpets are so much better and jeez, there is nothing to that recipe except waiting for the batter. Will be giving this one a go, cheers
Awesome, let me know how you go!
Will also point out, these freeze really well. Straight out of the freezer, into the toaster, some butter, just delicious
Loved it during my stay in UK in 2015-16... (wartburtons) ... watching now with my Kids and they are like super excited and expecting me to do it soon 😀❤️.. this is a must try and I got no choice 😊😊👍
Yes wWarburtons are my go to when I visit family in England. This recipe is a must try wish me luck.
Love your channel and your creations. Please keep up the good work. BTW, this is a quite unique pan/skillet. Which brand is it?
Brilliant. Thank you for this lovely presentation
You are so true, butter and strawberry jelly..im going to make it asap
tried these last week, awesome recipe and guidance
Great 👍 and cheers for the feedback
What a wonderful recipe...if I do not have metal rings, can I use steel bowls with a bit of butter at the bottom of the bowls?
Awesome! thought these would be hard to make but you make it look so easy, going to try this recipe, & have subbed.
Top stuff. Let me know how you get on 👌
Crumpets, butter and honey and maybe a dash of nutmeg......my days, yum
Thx.
Thank you, sir. You helped an American make a vastly better crumpet..
Cheers
Nice one Jack!
Very nice presentation. Thanks
Cant wait to try this. I have mine with unsalted butter and a sprinkle of sugar mmmm.
I have no idea what a crumpet is (not from England) but I think I will try these
Here in the US.they are "English Muffins".
You can buy them in most supermarkets in the UK. 9 for a £1. Stick them in the toaster. Twice. Get them crunchy.
@@brendastolecki4755 Yeah, not the same.
I really wish the rings were available in the US because I'd love to make these.
I'm going to try amaxon. Also I saw a tutorial where you can make your own from tin foil
You should be able to buy non stick egg rings on Amazon, they would work perfectly. Try to get the tallest you can.
In another video somebody suggested cutting the top and bottom off a small tin of tuna or a product with a similar tin. Watch your fingers though
On amazon search for "crumpet rings stainless steel"
@@bungabening3530 Great idea 👍
I love that mug where you have the batter and pours too. What brand?
These look scrumptious!
Butter and strawberry jam that’s the way to go and a nice hot cup of tea super breakfast
Great presentation ❤️🙏
I just made them and OMG, they are soooooo yummy 😋 And sooo simple. Thank you so much 😍❤️😘
👍😀
American here... is this similar in taste to what we call an English muffin? They look soo delightful & yummy.
sweetboo1022 it’s like halfway between bread and a pancake, hard to describe but not like an English muffin
Looks so yummy!
Being interested in British culture, I always thought scones were the number one cakes for afternoon tea, but they are much harder to make properly. I believe crumpets are gong to be much easier, I will definetly try to cook that as soon as possible. Thank you very much for this video!
Awesome, let me know what you think!
Mine will have imported Irish butter and homemade mango jam.
Strawberry is my second favorite... or apple butter.
Ooo...cream cheese and guava jam!!! Yup, I'm going to have to make these regularly!🤣
