I just finished making and consuming a batch of these. Absolutely the best recipe I’ve ever found for homemade crumpets. Thank you so much Mr. Paul. I’ve tried others from the internet, from other “famous” bakers from the UK, but these turned out on my first try and without a lot of pfaffing about.
Thank you very much Mr. Paul. Your recipe is perfect. Since I lived in London, many years ago I didn’t have crumpets. I made them six times already. From Spain thank you, thank you.(Excuse my English)
I have always wondered how to make these. My late husband loved them but we always bought the ready made ones. Thank you for the recipe! you for the recipe!
They look beautiful! They’d be delicious with good European butter and homemade blackberry jam. I no longer see a reason to buy the commercially produced crumpets we have here in the U.S. You made it look so easy, Mr. Paul - AGAIN! Thank you. 🥰
I totally agree Max. Not sure what you mean by European butter because almost all Butter with just the odd exception is what we in the bakery trade call Fermented Butter which means it has a Lactobacillus added similar to that in Yogurt. What we call natural butter I think if I'm not mistaken in the US it's called Sweet Butter which is ONLY fresh cream with a little salt. Just now I did it! I followed your recipe and got real crumpets. The recipe I had before was too dry or something and I got more like thick pancakes or pikelets. I did the stand mixer method and my stand mixer died when 2 minutes were left. So I whisked it by hand the rest, added the yeast-water and baking powder, let it proof 20 min and cooked them. Your explanations were all very helpful. Thank you. We lived in Scotland for 6 years and have been back in the US for 9 months. I always wanted to make crumpets, now I know how.
I was thoroughly surprised when you fried those in a pan! I never knew real English Crumpets were done like that, I thought they would have been baked in an oven. Amazing ! Thanks from me over here in Frankenmuth, Michigan, USA !

Hi. Yes I now ensure the crumpet rings are hot and well buttered before adding the crumpet mix. I’m now making 30+ a week for family and friends. They are indeed delicious.
I love double toasting crumpets so they have a crisp mouth feel then have the knife preloaded with butter to apply as soon at they hit the plate, cover one and while you butter the second one start eating the first....delicious! Looking forward to using yeast for the first time ever to have a go at these. Thanks for these original simple recipes, they feel like something I can follow easier and will be similar to foodstuffs I experienced as a child of the late 80’s and 90’s.

I've just this minute finished the last of my crumpets made to your recipe and must say they were delicious. I'll make another batch with double the recipe tomorrow. They don't last long. My tins are made from the bottoms of tinned tomato cans. Needs be as needs must. .😉
That's great Ronald, don't forget they freeze very well too, I always make a big batch for the freezer. Thanks for your feedback, it's very much appreciated.
Those look easy enough. I have a recipe that takes longer to rise and I have to make it into individual muffins and then let them rise again. Then cook them 10 min. on a side at 190 ° on my griddle. It feels like an all day affair but they are very good. This is more like a batter and is much quicker. I will definitely be trying this recipe. Thank you so much!! How magical that the 'silver' dough hook changes to a different blue one while you activated the yeast. I tried it several time with my mixer but the dough hook stayed the same. Any suggestions of what I did wrong?
Hi Mr Paul, every time i try to make these they don't cook in the middle. They look delicious from the outside but resemble playdough in the middle. I have experimented with more heat and cooking times. But nothing seems to work. Please send help my way.
Sorry to hear that, as I explained in the video it's important to cook them slowly, otherwise the bottom will burn before the inside is cooked. They will always be a little doughy on the inside after cooking, then you should toast them on both sides before buttering and eating them. Cook until all the bubbles have birst and the surface looks DULL not wet an shiny. I've had many people who have tried this recipe for the first time and had success.
Thank you! I just made crumpets last week and they didn't turn out very well (still yummy though) The recipe I followed had yeast and did not have any other raising agent. So I am going to follow your recipe and I hope it works!
@@MrPaulsPantry Hi again! We have a ceramic hob and I really struggle to gauge what temperature I have in the pan. Any advice. Love your videos. Thank you
I use a digital thermometer, one you just point at the pan base and click the trigger. They register the surface temperature not the internal temp of food. Hope this helps.
Very good recipe - Greetings from Brazil

Well I never, I never knew how these were made, when you mix the yeast and sugar is the water warm or cold? so that's something I've learnt today, you do make it look easy though, they look delicious, thank you Mr Paul for yet another delicious recipe and now on to look at more
The water is just warm like making bread, it's to activate the yeast
Excellent videos. Really enjoy your simplicity
Thank you very much Robyn. Also thank you for subscribing, I wish you a very Happy Christmas but do stay safe.

They look great! Do you have a recipe for Pikelets....?
They are made with exactly the same recipe, the only difference is they are not cooked in metal rings, just freeform as with drop scones, etc. Hope this helps.
@@MrPaulsPantry Thank you so much for your reply, yes that helps a lot!
Thanks for your vdo
These are great with clotted cream.
Can't find crumpets in the US. You made it look easy. So I'm to have to give this a go.

Hello Machado, Thanks for watching. I'm not sure what you mean by 'to do with Children', In my experience Children enjoy most snacks, Give me some idea what you mean please. You can email me at Paul@mr-pauls-pantry.com
Thank you!

Use a hand held digital thermometer for testing the heat of the pan.
Brilliant. Thanks for that Mr Paul

How magical that the 'silver' dough hook changes to a different blue one while you activated the yeast. I tried it several time with my mixer but the dough hook stayed the same. Any suggestions of what I did wrong?
😮 in awe. Do you toast them afterwards?
Crumpets should be toasted always.
These look lovely!😜 Do you mix the sugar and yeast with cold or warm water?
Warm
Thank you! I just made crumpets last week and they didn't turn out very well (still yummy though) The recipe I followed had yeast and did not have any other raising agent. So I am going to follow your recipe and I hope it works!
You must remember to cook them low and slow, to give them time to rise. Do let me know how you go with them please.
@@MrPaulsPantry Hi again! We made them again today with your directions- they worked amazingly. Our neighbour agrees- (we are Scottish and she is Irish, living in Florida where crumpets don't seem to exist) Next time we make them we will definitely use the paper too, as they stuck a little. Thank you!
They look yummy. Thank you.
They are! Thanks for watching
Why is the mixer attachment different when you add the yeast mixture to the bowl
