  • The fourth-generation Jeep Cherokee doesn't have a lot of "new" going for it. But Jeep claims there's a new one coming based on the Alfa Romeo Stelvio platform. So is there any reason to buy the current five-passenger old guard? Micah Muzio from Kelley Blue Book gives you a bunch of reasons. Check them out.

My car had 3 recalls (to which I have no issues with recalls), and I went in for 1 service request with the recall that they check something. the car turned on went I wanted it to and drove when I pressed on the pedal. I don't know what more you could need from a car. You should try a different dealer. I will say i tried a couple before I found one that I thought was clear and honest. The key to buying a GC is to get a loaded Limited version. That way you get many of the goodies of the upper level versions without the problematic air suspension. Also the V6 is plenty for this vehicle, unless you’re towing something. The V6 has also been around awhile now and is pretty reliable.

The Hemi is pretty much bulletproof.
Even the Pentastar engine is tried and true.
All cars nowadays have electronic gremlins. Toyotas have been recalled for brakes and airbag issues, Ford has exhaust leaks, they all have something sooner or later.
Car ownership has also changed, people lease rather than buy, and automakers know that.
But yeah, that Trailhawk is tempting! 😁👍

@@teop7887, I think more people lease vehicles today because they simply can't afford to buy them. This reflects the ridiculous prices for vehicles today. I realize no car is perfect and will have some problems at some point. But the fact is companies like Consumer Reports, Edmunds, etc., all have consistently given poor reliability ratings to Jeeps. I simply can't ignore that. If I'm going to pay over 50K for a vehicle, I don't want it in the shop all the time, even if it's still under warranty.

Aye, but leasing a vehicle still requires down payment to lower the monthly payments, and the main reason is actually to have a new vehicle every 3-5 years, and not lose money on depreciation.
The car market has essentially become similar to the smartphone market:
Sign a contract, get the phone, return it after x number of years for a renewal and upgrade.

Jeep should cut some of the Grand Cherokee trims down in the next body style. I would say cut it down to Altitude, Limited, Trailhawk, High Altitude, Summit and the SRT versions. Offer Grand Cherokees with only 2-speed transfer cases except for SRT versions. That should make things simple for Jeep buyers

  • @stephencannon3140

Interior wise my major beef is fixable and again my thumbs down.
When they removed the CD player as an option. The center stack was redesigned with the CD player gone.
Problem with that was FCA caved in to customer feedback and added it back in as an option. That itself isn’t noteworthy but.......with the instrument panel re designed there was no space. Instead of going back to the design in the instrument panel the player had to be moved to the center console. This effectively defeats the purpose of the storage console and I would estimate that about 80-90% of the console storage space is gone. I have about enough room for a pair of sunglasses and case, garage door transmitter and maybe some loose small paperwork. To add insult to injury they charge a $400 up sell price so you are basically paying as with pretty much every type of retail purchase....paying more getting less. Mine was ordered with the CD Player so no choice for me but pay attention. There is a kit that can remove the CD player and install the normal storage insert available but not sure of price.
Interior beef #2.......Cargo area light. The light lens and bulbs are mounted on the lift gate. That may not sound too crazy but think of this...with the lift gate open the light beams are illuminating the ground directly under the lift gate not the cargo area.
    Interior beef #3
Lift gate: power is nice but I say bring back the split glass for small items. Along those lines there is not a intermediate setting for the lift gate to raise. Allowing a selectable travel limiter that could let’s say raise 3/4 of the travel range with the power. If you still need to raise more use hands. This will make low ceiling parking garages and even home garages to reduce the chances of the exterior part of the lift gate contacting the garage ceiling or in my case garage door.....
Can you say scuff and scratch city especially clear coat.
Exterior and overall only one major exterior gripe and again my thoughts not gospel.
The windshield wiper fluid nozzles stick out from the hood. The concept is great but in reality the two protrusions....(the only two) take away the sleek, elegant and modern design. Yes I realize they have to go somewhere but how about under the hood and set back a bit more towards the surface it will be spraying on...(windshield)
Yes I can ignore them and eventually get used to them but in my subconscious mind they are there. Functional and effective but probably one of the very few times I would say form ahead of function. Normally I say function first then design the form.
One under hood complaint would be the oil filter housing. The 3.6 and possibly the 3.0 EcoDiesel have the cartridge type oil filter mounted above the engine....the filters housing which threads into the block is plastic. Very susceptible to breaking or even worse cracking. Yea I said cracking is worse than breaking in this scenario....a break you can usually see or hear it breaking and have a reference point.
With a crack and the black background a small hairline crack can get worse over time and eventually cause an oil leak and probable engine damage if the leak is bad enough. A small hairline fracture or crack can be amplified with a warm engine under high engine loads.......
Make the housings metal or at least allow the specs to be released so aftermarket vendors can sell them.
Better yet go back to canister type screw on filters like the V8 models.
Out of all the items the oil filter casing is probably the most serious mechanically and potential safety issue if the vehicle runs out of oil at highway speeds.
Overall a few quirks but everyone can find items to nitpick.
Great modern design and excellent safety technology. List of items are in line with the segment and most other vehicles even out of segment. A good balance on comfort and safety with maybe a slight edge on the safety side which is fine with me.
I don’t need a chilled cup holder or glove compartment to keep my can of Coke cold.....then again maybe I do.....👌🏻
For the MSRP I think that cross rails for the rook rack should be standard but that’s me.

WTH Thank god i had a warranty I think that was a $8k bill lol.l for a car that never saw tough off roading. This body is in need for an update, more modern safety as the passenger crash tests are not so good from what I have seen. On the high side she was comfortable and like any jeep gets you where you need to go. Love jeeps but this was my worst experience out of all of them.

I have the Cherokee, and it's the first automatic I've ever heard of that had an issue stalling. The automatic transmission has such a delay to shift it gives Star Citizen a run in the 'Soon!' department, and the 'entertainment system' lacks some essentials, plus it's not much faster than the transmission shifts.

You must have the 6 speed instead of the 8 speed? The ZF 8 speed is an awesome transmission. Same exact one used in a lot of bmw products

I'm thinking year-old Grand Cherokee or brand-new Toyota 4 Runner. With the used Cherokee, you let somebody else take that big depreciation hit, which is largely due to .true, but exaggerated, perceptions on reliability. With the new Toyota, you don't have to worry so much about the depreciation. I'm strongly leaning towards the Jeep; you get a lot more goodies and luxury for the money, and it's almost as good off-road as the Toyota. No denying the Toyota is probably more rugged and durable long-term, but I don't think enough so to justify the difference in price. Also, reputations are generalizations; I've had Hondas that were nothing but trouble and Chryslers that never gave me a single problem. I still might go Toyota, though...

I had a hard time on deciding on an SUV. The fancy brands seem unreliable, and some didn't have enough room in the back to lay down and sleep, like the 4Runner. I almost went with the 4Runner though, but the fuel mileage on the 4Runner really sucks.

19 seconds in and already the basic facts are wrong. The Jeep Grand Cherokee did see a major redesign for the 2014 model year. New front end, new rear end, new power trains, and new interior.

    • @Josh-179
      @Josh-179 5 років тому +1

Micah stated the fact. 2014 wasn't a redesign, but rather a refresh/facelift. It's gotten other refreshes along the way too. 2011 is in fact the last redesign of this vehicle.

Well considering they mentioned the Edge and the Murano as competitors and those are the Santa Fe’s main competitors, unless you mean it’s not a competitor because it’s not good enough, in which case you clearly haven’t looked at the new Santa Fe.

  • @porscheguy09
    @porscheguy09 5 років тому

I’m curious why the V6 in the Grand Cherokee doesn’t have the same 305 horsepower as in other FCA offerings. It’s only 10 horsepower but I think it would be a good selling point. Saying a vehicle has 305 horsepower is more impressive than 295 horsepower and people notice stupid stuff like that.
