Shout out from Houston, Texas. I have a 2003 Grand Cherokee Limited, had it since it was new. It has 191,000 miles on it and I love it, same transmission.

I love the look of the current generation. My parents bought a Grand Cherokee Limited back in mid 2016 and it's been a great SUV to own. Clicked over 100,000kms not that long ago. We love the luxury bits such as the full electric front seats that are heated and cooled, the heated rear seats with USB ports, the LED lighting inside and out, the large Uconnect system and the power plus economy of the 3.0L V6 Turbo Diesel. We would have liked a sunroof and some added safety tech at the price, but apart from that, it really is a great SUV which still looks fresh.

I love my 2017 JGC Limited. Favorite vehicle out of the 12 I have owned. So far not one problem with it. If anything would happen to it, I'd buy another.

Just purchased a 2022 Grand Cherokee Laredo X Altitude Sting Grey - one of the very last WK2s. I love it. Nice but not too nice - just perfect. Plant is to be reset for next generation soon. Jeep made so many - there will be spare parts for a long time.

Also the eco diesel is trouble free, no issues at all with the EGR or the DEF
You don't want that in Canada. They are notorious for freezing up in the winter.

I’ve owned 9 Cherokees or Grand Cherokees since trading in my grossly overpriced, overhyped, and overrated 1984 BMW633csi. Never an issue in 40 years. 6 cylinder, full time 4 wheel drive, leather, sunroof are all the amenities you need. Keeps it well under $50k. Most dependable and reliable vehicle ever. My 2015 in Maximum Steel Metallic with black leather was superb. Wish I had kept it. If Jeep reissues this color, all over it.

I'm test driving a 2020 for a few days. You can change the steering feel in the menu system. The sport mode only seems to change how the transmission acts. The 2021 is still the same body, but you can pre-order the 2022 in March of 2021. the 2022 is the new bodies.
Had a 2011 Laredo with a Hemi v8. Loved it but traded up to a 2014 overland. Still have it and no desire to change.

I love my 2014 Summit Ecodiesel with 125k miles in it. Tons of power and over 30mpg!!! Took my friend's boss who has a new Cayenne Turbo and he was blown away how nice it was and when I told him how many miles I had on it and he couldn't believe it.

I just bought the 2020 GC Altitude a week ago for $38,000! I guess that's a good deal then? I traded up from 2017 Jeep Compass. Huge difference I absolutely LOVE my GC! It's got the black rims too so I was sold!

The Cherokee really looks great without any doubts but personally I choose the SRT for me all the way, this isn't my best-loved SUV car though but really I think this is a nice SUV car for families. Great Jeep SUV car review still and design overall in general.

I have a 2012 Limited V6, I love it and the fact that it is the same car with minor changes.
2020 High Altitude 4X4 V6 Loaded. Love it and only two slight design drawbacks.
1. Center Console: if you get the CD player option which I found one of the rare ones that did. The CD player was initially removed then added back in as option based on supposed consumer feedback. The problem was the center stack/dashboard had already been redesigned WITHOUT the CD player. Apparently the only location left for driver access was the center console. That makes the center console only available for maybe a small/medium cell phone or Glasses case, possibly set of keys. I knew that going in and live with it, the only real long term solution would be swap the center console insert for one that didn’t have CD player which of course defeats the purpose of having the CD player. For the most part not a major problem for lost people since entertainment especially music is Bluetooth streaming, ISB, Satellite radio and if all those fail.....AM/FM.....if those fail....talk to your passengers......if those fail........

Design flaw 2: This is my observation not backed by science but a fairly simple observation and just what pops into my head.
Windshield wipers: The problem here is not the wipers but the fluid nozzles. If you look at the nozzles they are the only two protrusions on what is a otherwise clean, sleek, aerodynamic looking hood. To me especially with them being in plain/peripheral sight stand out. Yes I realize they have to go somewhere. I am by NO means anywhere close to a engineer in any field, but just a common mans observation based on life experience and what appears to be common sense. The Nozzles being under the hood may or may not be more effective but again keeps them from sticking out. I have seen nozzles attached to the arms and near the back of the hood underneath. Even seen them in the cowling area which appear to work.
You get the idea and overall the design is modern, mostly clean, functional and safe. I have pretty much always been a “Form follows function “ person. That means exactly that, Make sure it works first not how it looks. Appears that more people are getting more concerned about looks rather than how it works.
I do like the CDJR and possibly Fiat in utilizing the pretty dead space behind the steering wheel. If a controller/switch can be used there and reduce one more opportunity to remove the drivers hands from the wheel I am all for that.
They could have gotten their ques from aviation for that one. Some modern day aircraft have the “Push-Talk” switch behind the yoke again preventing another opportunity to remove from the yoke. Granted A good auto pilot will make hands on the yoke very rare but same concept.
Quadralift: The QL is a good system and works as advertised and designed. With that said there seems to be more hunting than I prefer. Let me explain.
I am one of the probably few old school people in the world that believes “If vehicle is not moving then place in park.
The problem with QL is it seems to be hunting for longer than I would like to settle. I agree with entryexit mode but it hunts as soon as shifter is placed into park. For short term situations, traffic, drive thru etc...) just stay in place longer. I would prefer a setting to say.......
Maintain current QL position for XX minutes after placing into park. The hunting is not the problem but that cycles the compressor and wheel actuators which eventually lead to reduced service life. This isn’t a major deal now while still under warranty but you can imagine when out of warranty.
As for the QL while vehicle is in operation it works great. Again I wouldn’t want to see a repair invoice for out of warranty but for now, as they say......”Floats like butter”. Like riding a pillow especially in Aero Mode.
Big note: If you are jacking vehicle for tire removal of any sort make sure you set the “Tire/Jack” mode on the U connect screen.
If not the QL compressor will try to adjust the corners to maintain the level position. Again, more cycling and reduced service life. Yes QL compressor can cycle without vehicle power. A common example is the entry/exit mode. That may lower the suspension when doors open. Same as the fuel pump relay kicking in when doors open so the pump is already primed when engine is turned on but not started.
Great vehicle and hopefully in about another five weeks after my ankle surgery cast removal I will be able to drive it!!
Agree about the wiper spray nozzles. They could have easily integrated them into the wipers themselves or the cowling area. I had a Mazda with them on the hood and every time i used them it made a mess with the water dribbling everywhere all over the hood. Not cool especially if your car is clean everywhere else. It's a simple design flaw that could easily be corrected.

We have two jeep grand cherokee wk2 first overland 2013 of release engine 3.6 mileage at the moment 500,000 miles! Only scheduled maintenance from major breakdowns of the automatic transmission and that's it.
I would like to note a very hardy chassis and generally high off-road durability!

The JGC is one of the nicest luxury SUV out there that can handle actually being used as a 4X4. In my opinion the High Altitude package is the sharpest truck they produce - based on the Overland trim level but subdued appearance with blacked out exterior and rims rather than flashy chrome offered in most packages. The 3.6L is enough engine. Although the Hemi would be nice, the cam shaft / lifter issues is what kept me from getting the bigger motor.
Still looks great even after 10+ years. Must be lots of pressure not to mess up the replacement.
The Hemi is overkill and a gas guzzler worse then the V6.

The "different car" is the rebirth of the Grand Wagoneer, which when introduced in the 70s brought the concept of luxury SUVs. Prior to that people had farm and country wagons like the Land Rover (which generations later became luxurious) or basically cabin based pickem up country trucks as the full-size Bronco and full-size Blazer and Sublurban err Suburban from the 70s. When reintroduced, the full-size Grand Wagoneer will once again place Jeep at the head of American luxury SUVs. I'd argue that the Summit trim of the GC matches or exceeds the Escalade and Navigator. However, Jeep (at least pre-Covid) had planned on making the new second-generation Grand Wagoneer the first SUV with a base trim above $100k. The original Grand Wagoneer went away with the emergence of the 1st gen Grand Cherokee.
I have a 2012 Grand Cherokee Overland and love it. Fantastic ride for cruising around town and does very well on long trips. I've also taken it offroad several times and it's incredibly capable. I bought my car used in 2013 and saved $18k off the list price. I haven't had any mechanical issues and anticipate keeping it for several more years.

High Altitude 4X4 even loaded with HEMI CBA get in the states for under $60K MSRPz. HEMI is about $3400 For US models. Biggest advantage for me for Explorer especially 2020 models is the longer fuel range which is lack of third row weight but extra 6.0 US gallons capacity. By the book comparing the V6 JGC to V6 Explorer is about 150 miles range. Yes you have to add more fuel at that stop but I prefer the longer range. If you went right to the EPA number of 18.6 gallons (Explorer) and 22mpg.....(HIGHwAY) after two years the numbers are a bit optimistic but as you burn fuel you can get close. My safe range with a full top off was about 350-375 miles MAXIMUM. That’s roughly 16-17 gallons which leaves 2 gallons left. Even with the same 22MPG that gives about 125 miles more range on JGC.
CD player. Apparently they were gone for a while and the instrument panel was re designed without the CD player. Customer Backlash resulted in them going back in but center console had already been re designed. New location is a single CD player in the center console which takes about 75-90% of the usable space for the console......ask me how I know. Funny they get more USB ports and still complain about not having a CD player. Oh well what’s done is done and I will live with it. Personally I would use the $400 for CD player towards the $800 Quadra Drive Electronic Limited Slip Differential but with COVID and inventory and options reduced the days of Dealer Trades are over for a while!
V6 is plenty of power and HEMI as with pretty much most modern generations is a name and ego booster only. To me not worth the $3400 but to each their own. I traveled 100 miles
From my home city to avoid getting trapped into a HeMI.
Grand Cherokee from 2014 still has a lot of features that competitors like the Highlander still don't have. Shows how good it was 6 years ago.

Nicholas Lotito In 2016 they upgraded to electronic power steering. I would stick to 2016 and newer. I had a problem with my 2014 steering rack.

Great SUV. I had a 2015 Limited that had great traction on snow and had tons of amenities. Unfortunately many things broke, check engine light almost every month. Also it didn´t match my personality. I woulnd´t mind having the SRT version though but again, I felt like maybe other people feel in a Range Rover, I felt I was driving something beyond my social status. I finally got the Wrangler I was looking for and even though it costs the same (used, like the GC) I feel happy driving it. But that just my thing, if you like it and are willing to get a quite large monthly payment, go for it. I´m sure one with the Hemi in it will bring a smile to your face.
Glad you found something that suits your personlity. There's been a real divide on those who said their Grand Cherokee is bulletproof vs those who had reliability issues.
@@FamilyWheels Depends on the model year. 2020 was a VERY GOOD year for the Grand Cherokee as far as reliability. Based off of my research online from various websites. You should stay away from anything under at 2017.
Still looks good. They should build it and sell it cheaper as a classic. I guarantee it’ll outsell what they refer to as Cherokee.
The wiper control and suspension control SHOULD BE stiff. These are not controls that you want to change positions if you brush by them while grabbing your Twinkies from the center console. If they are too easily moved and the suspension lowers while traversing some rocks you would likely be the first to complain. Likewise, the wiper control should be firmly positioned. Who wants the wipers to come on when using the shift lever?

Had a loaded Jeep Grand Cherokee for 15 years until last November. Scaled down for better gas mileage. Even thou Jeeps R gas hogs I do miss the ride. It had 367,000 miles on it 🇺🇸

I’ve had a 2016 Grand Cherokee Overland, 2018 High Altitude and a 2019 GC SRT. Obviously , I love them but they need a serious refresh and lighter load, turbo or hybrid options.

Family Wheels Yes they are great all around haulers. Just the right size and comfort for everything we need. The turbo Motor in the 19’ Cherokee is actually quite strong and a beefier version with a better transmission would be welcome. Likely, a hybrid coming leading to the next gen electric Jeep !

I have a love-hate relationship with my SRT, reason being is : I am on my 3rd Tesla . Tesla loaned us an X , which we were not crazy about the design but it sold my wife. We wish to be gas free 2020 and So ordered an X last year then rumors of the new plaid version arrived and we canceled the order till that Elon announcement. After having free Supercharging for 3 years , it gets annoying to pay $60 for gas and 11 mpg lol. So I welcome an electric Jeep , and will see soon what we replace the SRT with!

I'm trying to buy Jeep Grand Cherokee 2015-2017 Summit with a diesel engine. I live in Europe. I search here and I have found Jeep diesel that says CRD 3.0 diesel or Multijet, while I look on the internet for Jeeps in Canada they say 3.0 Ecodiesel. What is the difference? Which Engine is better?

this is an absolutely phenomenal vehicle. Ive put my 2011 through its paces. it is strong, capable, comfortable,luxurious, fast, reliable, and damn good looking. Espescially with a Thule roof rack. definitely get the HEMI! THE 3.7 V6 IS NOT SUFFICIANT FOR THIS HEAVY VEHICLE! gas milage isnt great, but its worth it for the capabilty. get the highest trim level you can afford, the Overland is awesome! its not a built wrangler, but for something that is so luxurious, its offroad capabilities are amazing. full set of steel skid plates, air lift suspension, ridiculously effective traction control! Roll up to campground or into valet parking, this jeep looks right at home anywhere you take it.
not sure why i posted this. just goes to show how much I love this vehicle, I guess. theres a reason this series WK has lasted so long

You missed out on the 2012 MY when they went from the 3.7 to the 3.6. That 3.7 engine is a dog, the 3.6 is a fantastic engine. But I still got the Hemi.
Our Jeep's MSRP USD is $68,860, we have all options except for the black roof. In my opinion our friendly Canuck neighbors get it for much less even at current exchange rates.

The large, clunky dials and buttons are there for a purpose...gloved hands, off roading, easy to engage...it’s a Jeep! If you want soft, squishy buttons, don’t pick a Jeep!! After 6 years, and two grand cherokees (mine and wife’s), they are just fine. You missed one of the biggest benefits of this vehicle’s design...smallest turning radius due to rear wheel drive system (transverse engine). My wife loves this vehicle because it’s big, it’s secure, and she can whip into and out of parking lots with ease. I take mine on trails and rock scramble for landscape photography...also a breeze...just turn the big clunky knob and press the big button to raise the suspension. All I can say is find another brand with a decade old design on the road today!
All totally fair points. I really did like this SUV and 100% AGREE on the turning circle! I was actually shocked when I first noticed it. U turn on a busy downtown street.. amazing.

My bride has a 2018 Diesel Summit that has the “good 4x4” system that came only on the Trail Boss or whatever it was called, it was Jeeps best 4x4 system offered that year. The mpg is awesome, but FCA has yet to issue fixes for several of the 3.0L Diesel engine which is ridiculous in my opinion, very poor customer service by the manufacturer. TBH, I’ve been a Jeep guy since the 1980s and based on how FCA has addressed the recalls on the diesel motor makes me not want to ever buy another Jeep product, which is a shame.

Have they fixed the rust issues? Went to a dealership last summer and five of the seven brand new Jeep Grand Cherokees on the lot were already showing signs of rust. In fact, most of the vehicles (various models) on the lot had visible rust spots here or there (screws, bolts, body panel seams, etc). We did not buy a Jeep.
Not sure, this one was brand spanking new and no rust to speak of.

all of that chrome/chrome-like trim around all the knobs and selectors and Jeep neglects to put a touch of it on the tips/ends of the window switches....wow. Even VW adds a chrome tipped window switch in most of their higher trim level cars. Jeep is a brand you drive and a lifestyle just like H-D so products don't have to be the best/exceptional as long as they give the feeling the owners are expecting. I'm a fan of the Limited and below trims; not a fan of leather(ette) and usually less to go wrong...usually
Perhaps that's what led me (without knowing) to think that part of the interior was a little bland. Small details could have lifted it to match the other nice aspects of the Summit trim.

Unfortunately this is not the last year....They extended the generation to 2021....most likely the Pandemic. 2021 carries over as normal except for a new “80th Anniversary Edition”. Which is mainly some accents, trim and badging. Summit is pretty much top of the line for everyday buyers without going into the SRT, TRackHawk etc........ Laredo, Limited and Overland seem to be the four volume leaders and cover a good amount of price ranges and options/packages.
This being a loaner for the testing is one thing but lighter colored interiors in snow cities can be a bad combination, unless you have your detailed on speed dial!

There is no way you can buy that Range Rover for less than an even loaded Summit. Especially with the V6. Even with the V8 it is about the same price as the Ford Explorer. I'm seeing 56-58K US with the V8. Rear DVD adds 2K. 53-55k with V6. This is with the 5K leather upgrade.
Hiya, the $78K quoted is in Canadian dollars, sorry for the confusion. Cars are pricier up here. This ticket price for this Summit model with the extras provided by Jeep was $78k, the RR Velar starts at $63 Canadian as per their website.
Optional safety features are standard on foreign competition. Duh.
The reason it has been around for so long is that no other car does so many things so well. The next lineup will be dangerous for the badge snobs.

I love Jeeps and always have since the old XJ and older grand cherokee models. However I lost interest in the new ones with no solid front axle, like all other non solid front axle suv or trucks👎

@@FamilyWheels yes. Washington state has some very hard wheeling trails like Elbe ORV park and Evan's Creek you can check them out on Y/T. There are many more spots here then that but I really like to wait for Snow season and try to wade through 2-3 feet that's my favorite type of wheeling🙂. However that type of offroading required ALOT of hard modification work like fully locked front rear and even a complete frame out of the stock unibody I mean front to back even front and rear pillars to finish boxing it in. 8.5" lift and so much more. A person has to have a love for something to do all the hard work like I did though 98 XJ. Oh by the way I love the grand cherokee for how amazing and nice it is. I just me for what I think of an suv though is that it should have solid axle that's all but I know it's a trade off for luxury, handling etc I get that.👍

Sounds to me like he’s got a bit of bias against Jeep, most of his complaints are real nit picky and I don’t find them to have much merit, now maybe the 2020 is different than my 2018 but overall I’ve had zero problems with mine and I’ve put almost 41k miles on it, so I’d have to say I disagree with a lot of what he said relating those complaints to my 2018
No bias, Anthony. Just got to try and be balanced where I can. This car actually has stuck in my mind for sometime after driving it. Which a lot don’t. Maybe it was all the fun doing donuts!

I’m in Aus and own a JEEP GC V8 HEMI.
I’ve had SO many problems I’ve basically re built the car with the number of things I’ve had to replace 😭 however, I LOVE it and want a new one but my husband says no due to all the issues we’ve encountered. I’m glad to see so many good reviews here. Perhaps I just got a 🍋 ??
resale on the V6 is poor demand for the hemi in the used car market is through the roof

2015 Overland here. Tows the boat up and down the mountains with no problem at all. Zero problems. Only thing I’d change would be addition of Hemi. No need for it, honestly, just the want. The sound and extra grunt would be appreciated.

Nice ride, just don’t crash in it and avoid the high trim levels.

It was?! There’s a ‘leather care guide’ that was attached that showed up in a few shots, could have been that? The leather on the summit trim was pretty comfy 👍🏼

2021 GC is the same platform & looks almost the same, this guy doesn't know what he's talking about. New model has NOT been announced yet, they've just added a few tweaks for 2021 model year.
