How to Re Paint a Camper Van DIY - CHEAPER and EASIER than you think! -Rust-oleum Combicolor

- A quick video of how we re painted our camper van using rust-oleum combicolor. We had previously roller painted our van but decided to spray this time around for a much better finish! Enjoy!
Good job well done. To anyone that hasn't sprayed before watch the video closely and note that the trigger is pulled to start spraying after the gun starts moving. Then is released before the gun stops moving at the other end of the pass. This is essential to avoid excess build up of paint and runs. Also overlap each pass by about 50% and keep the gun as square as possible to the surface.
And most important. Get something to practice on first!!!
Ten out of ten for giving it a go. For the future reader who is willing to try spraying, just going for something like a DeVilbiss FLG spray gun at around £130 would make a big difference (proper good sized spray fan / better fluid controls & adjustability / lots of good newbie set up advice on YT). Sell it afterwards and there wouldn’t be much difference in cost compared to using a cheapo gun.
Fair comment. Cheapo gun worked fine for us though and for the price of it the results are amazing, we’re really happy with it 👍
Preparation is everything. We'll done . Very good finish m8.
Thanks 😊
Great job and very nice colour
Cheers!
Looks amazing, well done!
Thanks a lot 😊
Hi, really great job and colour. Any chance you could give us the ral colour code for this, love it.
that does not look bad at all! Looks 10x better then before.
Thanks appreciate it
Very nice looking van👍
Thanks!
Very impressed, well done 👍.
Thanks appreciate it 👍
I like the orange (?) undies! 🤩
Hiya, just wanted to see how the paint has been? Would you still recommend it? Thanks
Excellent job pal! What compressor do you have?
Cheers mate, it’s a 50L twin motor one can’t remember the name to be honest might be SDL rings a bell. To be honest I think mines overkill for what I did there I use it for work so already had it but smaller one would do the job just wouldn’t shut off whilst spraying I’d imagine
Great work 👍 How did you find doing it outside with bugs and dust etc? Gonna be doing mine as soon as it starts to warm up a bit 👌
Thanks! In all honesty I think I was really lucky as I literally got 2 or 3 that’s it and they either blew off or literally wiped away when it dried without leaving a mark. Not ideal being outside but not everyone has access to a spray booth, I’d say just try and do it on a still day so the wind isn’t blowing bits and bugs into it
I think I have seen people use one of those cheap booths, like a camping or something and have the van or car inside. It's not the best, like a professional but it's cheaper, should keep away bugs and dust, atleast most of them. And spray during non windy day.... But agreed great work, these can cost over £7k
How’s it holding up? Just bought some combi color for a little trailer I’ve got just want to make sure it’s easy to clean and long lasting
Holding up great 👍 I’d say if you want it to be even more durable do a good few coats of clear coat lacquer
Looks great - How many ltrs of paint did you need? Cheers
Thanks! I got 2 x 2.5L tubs of paint and only just opened the second tub for the final coat so maybe 3 litres?
1year late but how much paint did you use
About 3.5litres if I remember correctly
Which grit sand ming discs did you use to key it ?
260 then 600 I’m pretty sure it was
Did you seal the paint/clear coat?
No we didn’t but there’s no reason why you can’t clear coat the paint, I’d probably use rust oleum own stuff though to make sure it’s compatible
Seeing as you didn't clear coat it has the finish held for long once it got dirty and grit on up or does it absorb dirt etc can it easily be washed off or wiped off?
Can I ask how many coats of paint did you put?
3 coats in total 😊
Thank you very much for the info :) And did you send in between the coats? If yes, what grading did you use? @@adventuresinchip5362
Also, I can imagine you painted your camper around a year ago? Can you tell us how good is the paint after a year? Any rust coming out etc? Or flakes? @@adventuresinchip5362
I didn’t sand in between coats, you definitely can but In all honesty I was spraying outside so it was never going to be professional job like it would of been if I’d send it away to a spray shop
Thanks a lot for the info, your camper van looks great !!!
