Just wanted to say thanks guys, I've used your video as a tutorial, followed all the steps bar priming it, used the same paint supplier etc, finished it today and it looks great, came out better then I expected, very happy with it, thanks again.
Thank you so much! haha yeah a lot of people were mortified that we were hand painting the van, but I think as long as you buy the right paints it can turn out really nice :) Thanks for watching :)
Great colour and a really good description, just in time for me to start my van, been looking for ages for someone to give ratios of paint to thinners, finally you have both come to my rescue, keep it up and enjoy, Paul
Great to watch and very informative , your enthusiasm is contagious now you've given me the confidence to try mine even though I am nearly seventy and only doing the bottom half.
I really enjoyed watching your video and learnt some stuff too. I've been painting machine tools with foam rollers for years and get a very respectable finish - I can't wait to try the fluffy rollers you mention. Lovely to see your enthusiasm for getting on and doing stuff yourself - it should be a way of life, it certainly has been for me!
Looks great and well worth the work. Nice straightforward explanations too. Is the paint you used as heavy duty and hard wearing as Raptor paint do you know? Thanks.
Thanks for watching! It’s called military vehicle paint and lasted over 2 years so must be pretty hard wearing but not used raptor before so can’t tell you how they compare!
I'm almost convinced now that I can paint my van, without it looking like a dogs dinner at the end of it all! Great video that has given me lots to think about. I have a "spare" bonnet in the garage, so going to get some paint, some rollers and practice on that. Wish me luck. Great van BTW. Love the new colour.
hey!! bit late tot the party but found this video so good and now inspired to do the same. Just a reminder that you do need to get your vehicle documents updated to the colour change.
Fantastic job...inspired me to do mine too. Very helpful and informative. I've just done mine and was wondering about cleaning and possibly a matt clear coat to protect against scuffs etc? How have you gone on since the paint job in regards to cleaning and protection etc. Thanks guys..your video has really helped me.
You're welcome! So we never put a clear coat on. The military vehicle paint is very durable, we even pressure wash it when it needs a clean and hasn't faded at all.
yay thank you!!! ahh thats the hardest part! took us ages to decide as there are so many to choose from! We found it easiest just to use the drop down menu on the paints4trade website :) thats how we chose our colour :)

I sold vechicle paint for spraying (and all things bodyshop) in my working life for my family business. Obviously you rolled your paint but your research and tips were spot on, a superb job and attention to detail. Nice one guys 👍🏻
Thank you so much!!! the researching part is the hardest bit as theres so much conflicting information on the internet :) We got there in the end though :) Thanks for watching :)
I did mine this week the hottest day of the years it was drying as I was painting it on lol 2nd colour order gonna smash it again but gonna take my time and not rush it and get short piled rollers lol
I thought Barry at Paints 4 trade was really helpful. I just used the foam rollers from screwfix from start to finish and no undercoat . It is really hard wearing and the best thing is if you scratch it..,,,,,no worries you have more paint 😬. Great vid.
Hey, can I ask how much of the green paint you used? I’m currently prepping mine for painting! Thanks for the info been super helpful.. I’ve got the paint from same place but went for two as want a different colour on roof and bonnet so got a small tin and my van is smaller so 🤞🏻 I have enough or just debating to order more now before i start painting xx
This looks great 👍🏻 just been thinking about what happens if my next van isn't a colour I like and you've made me think there's an affordable solution 😁 thanks for sharing!
Hi, vans looks great currently doing my old t4 with the same stuff did you find that little thin pieces of the 2 fussy blokes rollers would come of in the paint at all? Thanks
You have done a great job, looks great, do they have a paint chart ? How is it advertised on there site, I mean usage, thanks was great to watch, you both explained everything really well Thanks
You can look at the drop down options to see all the different shades available! Which comes with a colour code. Check out paints 4 trade for a better idea than I can explain. We spent ages choosing this one 😊
Hey awesome vid. I am doing my van now matte in military paint.. how did you handle the last coat? Some people are telling me i need to sand it back and others that i shouldnt.. but then what about bugs etc that get caught in the drying process? Feeling a bit lost 🙈
Do you have to clear laquer the paint when finished. If not is it easily to keep clean and does the dirt and grime wash off easily when it needs cleaning?
Hi, I have a white Peugeot boxer looking to paint it grey. Any advice would I need to prime it as the primer is grey? And I’m putting grey on as a final colour choice. Also what’s the best paint choice Matt satin gloss as I will be painting it with a roller to.
I can’t quite remember but I don’t believe we did sand it since the matt primer was a rough texture anyway! Still going strong a year on so we must’ve done it right 😀
We got our paint from Paint4Trade. The people there were really helpful over email and answered all our questions :) You can tell them the size of your van and they'll tell you how much you need. Thanks for watching!
Thanks! So we went for satin as we thought it was a nice in between matte and gloss. The primer was matte and we weren’t fond of that but didn’t want a shiny shiny van so we’re happy with the satin option 😊
Actually we ran out of the grey primer so we did the rood but not under the solar panels. It's on the list to do soon but not in an immediate rush to correct it :)
Thank you! It’s done really well, withstood any stone chips. There’s just a part around the door where the metal runs which we’ll need to repaint at some point but we’re very impressed with the quality of the paint 😃
Did you have to add any hardener? I’m looking to repaint mine and looked at military paint too :) to give it a stronger finish could I coat with 2k clear coat too? And do you think we can use a spray gun or is it better to just use rollers? Thank you for your videos!
We didn’t need any hardener ☺️ I bet a spray would make an even better finish but we just wanted to keep the costs down as much as possible. Thanks for watching! 😊
Thanks Karen! We used Satin and love how it turned out, we didn’t want it to be shiny but also don’t like the matte look! (Matte undercoat, satin chosen colour coat)
Following all that exhaustiveness, I`m very pleased that (a.) I`m 76 and far too old to embark on that kind of undertaking and (b.) that I don`t have a van anyway to tempt me... What a splendid job you`ve done! So very worth the considerable effort and the small amount of money it took to do it yourself - your van looks so much improved and you`ve chosen a colour that is both practical and very attractive. Best wishes from NZ..... (^_^) Rodger
Thank you! Ahh it is hard work and much more enjoyable to watch on UA-cam rather then actually doing it, so you have the right idea :D Thank you so much for watching, wow all the way from New Zealand what a beautiful place!!
What!! I'm 77 this year and helped convert a VW LWB, think I may even sell my MWB and but another LWB and convert. Also a Biker and carry the Bike abroad every year, never, never say too old.
What are the ‘greens things’ you used for sanding? Thanks for such an informative video I am repainting an ex post van I just bought and this is all first steps!
Hi! Thanks for watching! To be honest I’m not sure if they are the same thing, that’s why we bought the thinner from the same place we got the paint, just to be on thr safe side :)
Looks really good! we startet our van repaint today and stuggled with small air bubbles that would not go away by them self. Did you use matt paint und what was your thinner ratio? Do you had any problemes with air bubbles?
The rollers are the most important part of this and we didn’t have issues with air bubbles using the rollers we chose. I can’t remember the ration, we mention it in the video but I think it was around 10%
Hi guys, great job the van looks great!! Is the military paint normally self-undercoating? Looking at doing mine but a fair few poeple just went straight onto the prepped existing paint? 😊
Thanks Jack! We’ve heard of others just going straight for the top coat but since ours was dark red changing to a light green the place we bought from recommended the under coat. 😊
Hi - Your van paint job looks really great! One question - did you have any problem with paint dripping onto rubber (eg tyres or window seals) where it would be very difficult to clean?
Sorry for being late to the party, another great video, the van looks superb, and the colour is so much better than NATO green :-) You did not mention lacquer at all, does this paint need lacquer or is it hard wearing enough to cope with scratches and stone chips as well as the salt from the winter roads?
Its military vehicle paint with primer so it’s very tough and hard wearing and we haven’t had any issues with stone chips which proves to us that it’s nice and durable 😀 I’m sure a layer of lacquer would give even better protection though!
No, we used satin for ours as we wanted something inbetween matt and gloss. Apparently matt is harder to work with on vehicles plus we didn't want the complete matt look so satin provided a great in between for us. Thanks for watching!
Just wanted to say thanks guys, I've used your video as a tutorial, followed all the steps bar priming it, used the same paint supplier etc, finished it today and it looks great, came out better then I expected, very happy with it, thanks again.

Do you have to clear laquer the paint when finished. If not is it easily to keep clean and does the dirt and grime wash off easily when it needs cleaning?
No since it’s military vehicle paint, it’s all ready once painted!
Hi, I have a white Peugeot boxer looking to paint it grey. Any advice would I need to prime it as the primer is grey? And I’m putting grey on as a final colour choice. Also what’s the best paint choice Matt satin gloss as I will be painting it with a roller to.
I can confirm that they didn't leave a trail of red dust💪 wiping down as they sanded worked a treat 🙂
haha yay!!! :D
Looks fantastic. Love your van. Great size.
Thank you!
Did you send down the second prime coat or just paint the first top coat straight on
I can’t quite remember but I don’t believe we did sand it since the matt primer was a rough texture anyway! Still going strong a year on so we must’ve done it right 😀
Can you write down a list of what paints and where please? I see the rollers but not paint
We got our paint from Paint4Trade. The people there were really helpful over email and answered all our questions :) You can tell them the size of your van and they'll tell you how much you need. Thanks for watching!
Still cant work out what your 'greenies' are you used for sanding?
The green dishwashing pads 😀
I noticed there are lots of different types of primer paints to choose from, which grey primer type did you use at pints4trade?
We used the light grey mat primer :)
Thanks guys 👍
What grit sandpaper did you use to sand it down. ? Think I missed it ! Cheers
I don’t remember I’m afraid! Sorry about that!
A great in depth video, I’ve been putting it off for ages but now feel I can give it a go with your info, is the paint a glossy finish? Cheers
Thanks! So we went for satin as we thought it was a nice in between matte and gloss. The primer was matte and we weren’t fond of that but didn’t want a shiny shiny van so we’re happy with the satin option 😊
What was the colour you used? I love it I want to do half of mine this colour!
It was one of the sage green options on paints4trade but I can’t remember the exact code! They have so many shades of green to choose from though 😃
Did you do the roof too? (I imagine it'd be difficult if you had to remove the solar or to try and get underneath it.)
Actually we ran out of the grey primer so we did the rood but not under the solar panels. It's on the list to do soon but not in an immediate rush to correct it :)
I’m so tempted to try painting my van.
Which paint range did you buy? Military or two part metal paint? Or have I missed where you have posted this?
Oh we may have missed that out. We went for the military option based on the emails with the company 😊 You can do it!
How's the paint stood up to everyday exposure since you applied it? The finish looks great!
Thank you! It’s done really well, withstood any stone chips. There’s just a part around the door where the metal runs which we’ll need to repaint at some point but we’re very impressed with the quality of the paint 😃
Did you use thinners in the undercoat?
I don’t think so? Been a few years now but can’t remember measuring the thinner for the primer
Did you have to add any hardener? I’m looking to repaint mine and looked at military paint too :) to give it a stronger finish could I coat with 2k clear coat too? And do you think we can use a spray gun or is it better to just use rollers? Thank you for your videos!
We didn’t need any hardener ☺️
I bet a spray would make an even better finish but we just wanted to keep the costs down as much as possible. Thanks for watching! 😊
Hi guys, love the paint job! I’m thinking the same for military paint! Did you use Matt, satin or gloss for this finish? Thanks!
Thanks Karen! We used Satin and love how it turned out, we didn’t want it to be shiny but also don’t like the matte look! (Matte undercoat, satin chosen colour coat)
Looks so good! Do you remember the color code of the paint? :)
No I'm afraid not but they have loads of the similar colours and which ever one you settle on will be lovely :)

Yes! Years later still looks good 😊

With a paintbrush :)
It looks great! Just curious, did you paint underneath the solar panels?
Hi! Thanks for watching :) we ran out of primer so didn’t do under the solar! We hope to do it in the future though :)
Philly wants to paint our van, pondering it for a while, this video may have tipped him over the edge
You can do it!!
Mask it all off with paper tape, take it all off when all coats are done, any tiny touch ups use an artist brush
Yes, as this comment say! And just keep an eye on it and wipe any spills as they happen 😀 Bit late now so I hope your paint job was successful!
What kind of paint did you use?
I can’t remember off the top of my head as it was a long time ago, but it’s all mentioned in the video! Including where we bought it from 😀
Sorry for being late to the party, another great video, the van looks superb, and the colour is so much better than NATO green :-) You did not mention lacquer at all, does this paint need lacquer or is it hard wearing enough to cope with scratches and stone chips as well as the salt from the winter roads?
Its military vehicle paint with primer so it’s very tough and hard wearing and we haven’t had any issues with stone chips which proves to us that it’s nice and durable 😀 I’m sure a layer of lacquer would give even better protection though!
Was it matt that you used ?
No, we used satin for ours as we wanted something inbetween matt and gloss. Apparently matt is harder to work with on vehicles plus we didn't want the complete matt look so satin provided a great in between for us. Thanks for watching!
How much paint did you use for the whole van
One tin of primer and one tin of colour :) Less than we expected!
Do you have any close ups of how the paint looks up close? Couldn't see any on your Instagram? Thanks
We put some close ups towards the end of the video but there will be pictures on Beth's instagram soon :)
