I have considered useful to review the topic how to approach corners on door panels. Sometimes, some of our students are confused on how to wrap the corners. As we can see in the video I have shown how to cut and fold square corners, one pointed corner and rounded concave and convex corners.
We clearly see that one of the keys is to first give shape and glue down all around the cardboard piece edge. Then comes the gluing of the folds all around over the cardboard reverse edge.
These techniques also work out for leather material or fabric.
I hope you find this video useful!

The total lack of unnecessary talking, intro, outro and background music, just leaving white noise and sounds of precise, slowly performed craftsmanship is an absolute delight to watch. A bit hypnotising, haha. Wonderful. I don't even do projects like this. Maybe one day when there is time.

I mostly agree this is way better than all the unnecessary fluff. However, I do think a few words here there could make it a little bit better. Even if it was just some text on the screen. Like naming the type of pliers used. Brand/type of glue needed. Spacing between cuts for curves etc. Just coming from someone who is about to cover some inserts for my boss and have never done this before. I could do a little research so no big deal but other than that i'm so glad I was able to see the technique. That's what I needed the most. So helpful!

Honestly, not sure how many videos I've watched but, I just start making stuff I dream up. Hardly any planning Other than what I feel the leather wants to be. I'm making a box and have 0 corner wrapping experience . No words but I was able to answer every question I had with this video. Thank you so very much.

Thank you Cechaflo! I tell people about your great videos all the time. One of the first I watched showed how to cover a gearshift knob in leather. I tried it and it turned out surprising nice and was fun to do. So I did the steering wheel after watching you do that job too. Now I'm installing headliners, sewing seat covers and fixing up tired upholstery all the time. I even look to buy cars with shabby upholstery because I can get a good deal AND fix it myself. Unlike the mechanical stuff my hands never get dirty and I can usually work on stuff inside the house in the HVAC. 😉

PLUS he trims the edges on the back of the panel. That's why it's called a skilled trade.

Could you tell me what sort of material you are using in this video? I have a boat dash to cover but I need a stretchy fabric.

For this sample/training I have used automotive 2 way stretch vinyl. The vinyl stretches breadthwise.
Perhaps it would be much better for your project a 4 way stretch vinyl. Besides a marine vinyl.

It could be handles it in different directions.

If I like, instead of leather, I could use Naugahyde? That glue looks like Contact Cement, yes?

Yes, you could use any synthetic material. I am using vinyl material in this educational video.
