I'm 14 and I love David Bowie so much. His performance is amazing, and I cant think of another artist as dedicated to art as him. He inspires me in every way possible
Im utterly a Ziggy period man. And this song is Ziggy in the 90s - a continuation of Aladdin Sane. Listen to Garson’s piano and you’ll understand where I’m coming from. I love it.
I’m a late GenXer. When Bowie passed, more than a couple older fans I spoke to were quick to try to gatekeep and say I couldn’t have been a fan, as if his career ended after the 70s or something. They had no idea that he was doing his best work long after they stopped listening.
I'm 65 and saw his Ziggy tour in 72. I do like early Bowie best, maybe because I was in my youth. But his genius continued till that awful day we lost him . I love that generations after me love him. I am borderline obsessed with him and are happy you are a fan. Outside is one of my favorite records from him....and that was 1995.
Im 64 now and i had to wait to see him first from very close up on the stunning 78 tour. As you mentioned, in our youth we were blessed to see him then, fanatical over every album from the superb 1970 TMWSTW thru to Lodger and Scary Monsters. It also delights me to see newer fans in awe of him. I was a superfan at 12yrs old and he was a once in a lifetime artist, a music, film and fashion icon. For me, Annie Lennox's speech/tribute to him at the Brit Awards just after we all lost him, is the greatest ive ever heard. She just chokes me up every time i revisit it, such are the magnificent words she finds to describe him. She maybe thought of her memory of duetting with him at Freddy Mercury's memorial concert while saying those words. If i had lived in the US or Europe i would of seen him live 20,30 times, but i only saw all 4 full world tours 78,83,87, and for Reality, i splashed out for up front, but felt it was the last time id see him. For solo rock artists, his run of brilliant 70s albums made every year is widely felt as unmatched, with some beauties in the 90s onward as you said like Outside. For me, Lou Reed is nearest to him for his incredible 70s albums, and like his longtime artist friend, he also made superb albums later on. I once read a poll of the 200 most essential rock albums with Bowie taking out No 1 with 6 albums i think it was, with Reed polling with 4 or 5 albums. Thanks so much, inspiring me with your thoughts in those 2 lovely comments.
This is the best version of this song, dark rhythmic flawless vocals and music. Like a pulsating musical beast weaving us through the song till the final dramatic crescendo! Bowie was a musical genius!!
Been a fan for 50+ years now and always finding something new in every song - time and time again. It's like listening to a new song every time - only I've heard them all dozens of times before. Mesmerizing!
Wow....I had never heard this song and I just watched 4 different versions----each one he dramatizes completely uniquely with his body movements, his facial expressions and gestures-what a great artist and performer....can't believe we lost him.
What I've come to understand about Bowie is that he is the consummate performer. He is not just a singer or a songwriter, he is the whole deal !! Actor, writer, producer, artist.poet.. the whole deal!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
The nineties period of his career was just awesome for live performances. The band was tight and probably the best he had and he was just at the top of his game. (when was he not!) Love this song and Hallo Spaceboy off of OUTSIDE.
Yeah, man. This was on the Se7en soundtrack, but it’s one of my fav Bowie tracks. And the rhythm section is just awesome, they play that relentless groove to a tee!!
David turns into someone i can't explain when he's performing. OH RAMONA !! I can't explain what that is but it's glorious .❤ When he goes for the hi note in the word "way" it gives me shivers.
Sometimes Bowie was interstellar cold and dark! And so full of charisma! The Blackstar Titeltrack is so cold, dark and beautiful that's its hard to listen! But you have to because of its beauty
@guitarina1 Bowie himself said that his album was the most magical. There's a hidden questioning: the dark interlacing between art and violence. The cue came from a period more focussed on the body, also by cinema, after a term of hypocritical artificiality . "Seven" by Fincher, a very dark cult, used the song in the credits: a perfect combination. The rhythm is like a trance, the piano's notes seem bright small beads in an atmosphere of mud ... and Master Bowie! Grazie carissima, anch'io.
Was at the movies watching "SE7EN" in 1995 with this cool "Closer" version of NIN at the beginnig. Perfect movie and music. Perfect ending and Bowie's "Hearts filthy lesson". Saw him live in germany several times (and 2 times in 2003 - sadly the last tour ever). He was a genius! Still sad and missing him.
David unlike many Other artistically musical geniuses knew his assignment immediately upon arriving here. He never held back. A very strong-minded Capricorn. Questions: Is it better to say ........ "I knew that I shouldn't have Ever come down to this planet". Or should you ask....... 🤔 "How long are you expecting for me to Remain here?".🤔🏆🥇✈🌍🎯👺
This masterpiece deserves millions more views! I have really watched it that often now and it always impresses me as if I had heard and seen this amazing performance for the first time!
his incredible performance give me thrills oof, what a amazing performer and singer 👩🎤 👨🎤 planned everything even until the littlest details for catch our whole attention. I thanks god for had created this human. Rest easy mister Jones 🙏🏻
@sirensealight I think that Bowie has always known anticipate the times (for me, even some things in the years 80), describing a disturbing future, but also of great surprises. He, to us, has made many brave suprises, I agree ... "Outside" is a magnificent example (and album). This piece, one of his most accurate masterpieces (always for me). Thanks so much for your comment.
Saw the movie Seven yesterday for the first time. Amazing movie. This caught my attention during the end credits. 31 year old black officer jamming to a David Bowie song. Gonna listen to more of David Bowie!
Also a favourite of mine...4:26 - 4:27...nice move!!! I also, imo, believe this group of musicians to be the best he employed. They are all nicely tethered to each other. Never another, ever.
@GoldenYears77 Maybe it is the exact effect, from the objective wanted by Bowie at that time (as in all stages of his career): the disorienting of our expectation. In fact, he has never done what we expect him to do; his career has shown an implicit challenge to the conventional notion of artistic continuity ... Wonderful ! Thanks for the comment, dear Nicole; even I love this great song.
Bowie has to be the most unique rock star ever. The man was one in a million.
Rather one in a billions and generations after generations!
He was the best musician since 1969
An incarnation of Lucifer.
En.ki Ea Shiva

how true
One in 8 billion, and still counting.
I'm 14 and I love David Bowie so much. His performance is amazing, and I cant think of another artist as dedicated to art as him. He inspires me in every way possible
Fucking genius. I really don't think we've come to terms yet with his loss. A brilliant artist.
Dianne B. Dee we never will...
i couldnt agree more
🎯👺🎯👺 100% Correct.
If ever there was a one, ever who made weirdness beautiful. This was he.
"something in our blood"
"what a fantastic death that is"
"i'm already five years old...i'm already in my grave"
aka adrenochrome....
maybe ist a Parabel
This is not weirdness. I'm not sure whether you should be grateful not knowing what it's about.

Completely agree. I ran across it by mistake.
Yes, David, I will carry you. Yes, David, I will tell the others. Yes, David, it's a fantastic death abyss. Yes, David, yes.
Fucking genius. A proper one off. There will NEVER be another David Bowie. ⚡😎❤️
Been a fan for 50+ years now and always finding something new in every song - time and time again. It's like listening to a new song every time - only I've heard them all dozens of times before. Mesmerizing!
I am slightly obsessed with this performance.
Iam Paddy, and i never lost my way, followed him since Aladinsane,
and not a day without his music. I even called my son Ziggy!
INCREDIBLE BOWIE! Love 1.Outside.
I think i've lost my WAAAAAAY !! That sends chills up my spine when he holds that last word . What a voice. ❤🙏
So true ... but the songs are so great ... inspired me to perform his songs on YT ... I'm so privileged.
Wow....I had never heard this song and I just watched 4 different versions----each one he dramatizes completely uniquely with his body movements, his facial expressions and gestures-what a great artist and performer....can't believe we lost him.
Yeahhhhh
Never to be repeated.
Be glad we were able to experience him instead
What I've come to understand about Bowie is that he is the consummate performer. He is not just a singer or a songwriter, he is the whole deal !! Actor, writer, producer, artist.poet.. the whole deal!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Bowie is very fortunate to have all world class musicians in his band. They make the music fly!!!!
+walter slavin He picked them and demands the best and deserves the best.
The nineties period of his career was just awesome for live performances. The band was tight and probably the best he had and he was just at the top of his game. (when was he not!) Love this song and Hallo Spaceboy off of OUTSIDE.
His 90's work is vastly underrated.
Love his 90's work and Hallo Spaceboy!
I concur.
The German audience seems puzzled about what happened there, but he and the band were outstanding around this time.
Yeah, man. This was on the Se7en soundtrack, but it’s one of my fav Bowie tracks. And the rhythm section is just awesome, they play that relentless groove to a tee!!
Saw bowie and nin my favorite bowie era
David turns into someone i can't explain when he's performing. OH RAMONA !! I can't explain what that is but it's glorious .❤ When he goes for the hi note in the word "way" it gives me shivers.

The world is empty without you! :-(
I love this and I love Bowie forever and ever RIP
50 is DB here. And that looks! And that voice! And that band! Thank you for this David Bowie! R.I.P.
Absolutely Fantastic
R.I.P. David Bowie. You will be deeply missed.
Coolness. Darkness. Simply awesome. Bowie is a legend.
Love his outfit here. I think people usually underestimate the darkness throughout all his work. He and Scott Walker are princes of the dark.
Sometimes Bowie was interstellar cold and dark! And so full of charisma! The Blackstar Titeltrack is so cold, dark and beautiful that's its hard to listen! But you have to because of its beauty
♥️💀👺👹👏
David Bowie, Reeves Gabrels, Mike Garson, Gail Ann Dorsey, Zach Alford my fave drummer blew it up!
I'd never seen this live version until now....stunning 😍
this version is hard hitting and I love it
@@googleuser7454 It’s heavy AF, DB could rock with the heaviest of them when the song called for it. ❤️🤘🏼
This is a fantastic version love this album ❤🎉
What a Genius... Brilliant...
Oh Paddy! I think I've lost my way!!!!!!!...
@guitarina1

And "I'm Deranged" in the unforgettable open and closing credit sequences of Lynch's "Lost Highway".... such a perfect integration of artists.

Wow, that's a good version. He really was a master. I am glad i saw him a few times on stage. He was a genius ! Unique !
One of the coolest things about Bowie, is that his stage performences are just electric!
David at his best, the band is awesome, I saw them in 97 , fucking brilliant
The subject matter Bowie writes and sings about is so varied and can be very dark.love it.
Bel video e Grande canzone...Bowie strepitoso....love forever

And "OUTSIDE" is still one of his best albums...
Yes perfect use of the song to play over the credits particularly after that shocking ending!!
@@andrewburgemeister6684: Correct!
If you grew up in the 60's-70's, Bowie was the one who sang to everything that was going through us. Good and bad.
Spectacular! So glad I got to see him in concert 3 times .
Epic performance
Genius. RIP. I was lucky to see him live in 1997.
BEST OF THE BEST !!! THANK YOU MR. BOWIE ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
David unlike many Other artistically musical geniuses knew his assignment immediately upon arriving here.

The best live version I've heard of this song. God I miss him!
omg this sounds so good! David at his best.
@Scoobydoonut
To appreciate the creativity of David Bowie "you must have the mind free from prejudice".
You are so.
Deeply thanks.
Fuck me. What a genius.
Envoûtant comme c'est pas possible!!J'ADORE ce morceau! du grand grand BOWIE scénique-

My fave Bowie song by far ,fuck Space Oddity!...”tell the others”
absolute perfection!
WOW! Love this so much!
Man....he had an Awesome band on those 2 albums. Guitarist elevated style to the time and Michelle. On Bass....priceless
It's Gail Ann Dorsey playing bass and singing. (*Not* Meshell Ndegeocello.)
J'aurais adoré être à ce concert, j'adore ce morceau, j'adore la prestation de Bowie, il vit sa musique sombre et tragique
I had the pleasure of seeming live twice. In 1992 in a small venue in St. John’s Newfoundland.
Masterpiece.
One of my favourites love it.
Also a favourite of mine...4:26 - 4:27...nice move!!! I also, imo, believe this group of musicians to be the best he employed. They are all nicely tethered to each other. Never another, ever.
If aliens from distant worlds manage to tune into our transmissions, dear lord let them find this first.
Its those background singers when saying the verses hearts filthy lesson that realy brings this song to life.
@GoldenYears77
