  • EDIT - I MADE A MISTAKE! 🤦‍♂️
    Near the end of the video I mention that you can mount the blade backwards if required, as demoed in Ben's video. I was incorrect, the model Ben shows off is different to this one. In his model, yep, you can mount it backwards, in this 040, you cannot. Apologies for that, and thanks to Cowryman for picking up on it for me. Serves me right for making an assumption and not checking the detail myself. 🤦‍♂️ I stand by the vibe of the video though, this tool is great fun to use.

    Today, I'm building myself a beautiful Greene & Green styled picture frame out of hardwood, and decided to tackle the joinery by hand. I'm using my new Cowryman Router Plane to make the Tenons, and I honestly can't describe just how enjoyable this tool is to use. I'm a big fan of it, but I'm sure you'll be able to tell that from the video. 😁 I've also channeled my inner‪@diyforknuckleheads‬ and have some just truly woeful Dad jokes in here, my apologies in advance. 😆
    Big thanks to Cowryman for sending this Router Plane my way.
    If you'd like to check out their tool, and I wholeheartedly recommend you do , you'll find it here:

    Ben from ‪@HewAndAwe‬ also played around one of Cowrymans Router Planes recently. He knows his way around the tools pretty damn well, so don't take my word for it, go and check out his thoughts in his video (and channel) as well.

      yeah great vibe Mario. So many times have i wanted to get a vintage one of these but Paul Sellers made them so popular they shot up in value too high to justify, and the veritas ones are way too expensive to even look at. This one seems to have a reasonable price for what you get though.

    Cheers for the shout mate!! I was gonna choose that same plane, was the lever that put me off. Wish I had now 🤦🏻‍♂️

      How could I go past the Top Gun intro? 😁👍👍Unfortunately, I did stuff up though 🤦‍♂On this smaller model you can't actually reverse the blade mount, that's a feature of the larger model only. Silly me for not doublechecking, I gave it a quick look and assumed it would work. Dang it!

    Nice review. Combines humour and information. Suggestion - There is a UA-camr who trawls old toy patents for futuristic toys because of the legal requirements of patent applications the drawings are an art form of in themselves.

      ooh, that's a great idea! I very nearly purchased a Lego blockman patent drawing instead of the Star Wars one, now I think I should have gone that route.

    AHHAH Great video Mario... On a side note, you'd be supprised how many people walk the MC trail at night..... Not Recomended.
    Your story rings so true for me - I try to get machining done on weekends, then spend the weeknights (where possible) in the garage using hand tools . True Relaxation. ..... "Why is it called taking a dump, if your leaving it behind?"

    • @woodfather
      @woodfather  10 місяців тому +1

      I stop prowling the creek pathway from twilight, otherwise I end up eating too many bugs when I start jogging 😆
      And yep how good is being able to sneak out during the weeknights for a little hand shaping, planing, sanding, finishing. Weekends for the big tools, weeknights for the finessing. 👍 (Less said about your alone thought there, the better... 😆)

    I have an old (but as new condition) Stanley which I love. As you say, they are easy to use but the blade is a pain to sharpen. Yours looks much easier.

    • @woodfather
      @woodfather  10 місяців тому

      Tomorrow I'll be sharpening the 8mm blade for the first time. I expect it to go well - I'm no expert but I get my chisels sharp enough for my needs - but will report back and let you know how I go 👍

    Thanks for the crash course, as I said on Instagram, I did not know how to use it. Neat little tool - basically a chisel with a reference plane and handles!

      Cheers Joe, I reckon it is too. It just looks different to others on the market, less old school traditional style, and more modern and still well functioning. I'm probably not explaining that well, but long story short, I like it. 🙂

    Router planes are such a good hand tool, they may not need special skills but they make you feel skilled.
    I got the Katz-Moses KM12 not long ago, absolutely gorgeous but if kit.

    • @woodfather
      @woodfather  10 місяців тому

      Almost cheating isn't it? I know it took me quite a bit of time to become proficient with a hand plane, but with a router plane, even the 'poor mans router plane' I made a few years ago, you can pick it up and pretty much immediately figure out how to use it to get great results. 👍
