  • Router planes are a great tool for working shallow mortices - hinge gains, inlay, door locks, trimming tenons and the like. But a pain to sharpen, so most of use tend not to bother, until now!!!

I'm actually reviewing another of his models currently too Ben, and I'm really glad you've said you like it, cos I love mine. Absolute joy to use and it's already helped me make the most nicely fitting tenons I've ever done. I don't have another brand to compare it too though so I wasn't 100% if I loved it cos I was having fun, or if it actually was a good tool, glad to see its the latter!

I own/tried only one router plane, similar one but aliexpress wider version with small wooden handles. It cuts fine but the bottom plate was not flat and it is steel. After trying to flatten it i saw it took to much time. Also i noticed it made track signs like on yours. So i epoxied a piece of wooden piece/sole and it work fine now (no track signs).
My only complain is that has short depth of cut.
P.s. The removable blade holder is actually great idea where you could make whole new body to fit your needs/hands (to lazy to do it, prefer to make things out of wood then tools 😁)

They all do it, the veritas too. Funny that was the first thing I checked and was fine, the plane you’re talking about is a copy of the cowryman planes, funny when you think the Chinese copy their own 😂 I can see it would be handy if you need to get right into a corner 👌

Ended up selling my Stanley 71 in the end, as I hated having to sharpen the odd shaped blade. Ended up making the Paul Sellers router plane… It’s so much more logical to set the blade at the cutting angle, meaning the blade can then be sharpened just the same as any chisel. No idea why modern many big tool makers continue to make these planes to such an inferior design, whilst then trying to come up with ‘clever’ solutions to the issue of sharpening!

Well to be perfectly honest, in my humble opinion, of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also by looking into this matter in a different perspective and without being condemning of one's view's and by trying to make it objective, and by considering each and every one's valid opinion, I honestly believe that I completely forgot what I was going to say.
