      Wanja [Nechtan] Gröger I have some problems with my spring tension, the things you need to turn under the springs, are weirdly made, they have a kind of star shaped thing where you can adjust the tension which makes it really hard to adjust it, also it makes it quite litterally impossible to adjust it beyond a certain point, which makes it so the springs on my left pedal are extremely tight whereas the ones on the right ones are kinda loose, the height of the beater is almost the same for the two
      I have long boards speed cobras but I don't know the exact model, it should be mid-high tier gear

      @@Anonymous_________ I've been playing drums and percussion since 2004, a variety of genres, settings and performances. I'm aware of the rudimentary work and patterns in the song, but if you'd read the original comment I've owned the double bass pedal for one of the nearly twenty years I've been performing. So if I can't do perform double strokes with my left foot I assure you some moron on the internet calling me a noob is hardly going to bother me lmao.

    Wanja, I appreciate the way you explain things so precisely and with humility. You're a fantastic drummer. Your style certainly isnt close to my own, but I implement your teaching to my drum 'health' and exercises push my playing to be far easier. I like that you play different pedals in different videos, which tells me that the instrument isnt as important as the player. ; )'

      Also a tip is the further back your beater travel is the more spring tension this creates. So if you prefer your beater back to an avg 45 degree angle you will need less spring tension than a metal drummer who uses a closer to the head beater distance. Pearls springs are a bit stronger than other manufacturers also.

    • @larrytate1657
      @larrytate1657 3 роки тому +4

      Low tension on a pearl eliminator is about the same as mid tension on a iron cobra. So it amazes me that some people still max out their pearl pedals like this talented dude.

    I have Pearl 932 pedals, cheaper version of the demon drive ones, very much middle class pedals, though slightly more expensive, my point by mentioning this is that from my experience it's much easier to play fast on pedals that are a bit more expensive, so if you want to get something that's great to start playing fast with, I'd definitely go for something like this.

    @6:10 when I first began practicing double bass I would actually set the right beater (right was my leading foot at the time) so it would actually tap the top of my foot in between each impact. However, I don't recommend that to new drummers. It beat the shit out of the topside of that foot after awhile.

    Thanks for this video. My main problem is a feeling of dissymmetry, because the left foot seems disproportionately heavy, even when taking the left foot weakness into account. And I was wondering if a counterweight set higher on the right beater might help achieving more similar strokes. My goal is to have both beaters travel exactly the same when released from tension.

    Greetings from Canada, Wanja! I enjoy your videos, as I watch them frequently. I am curious as to your opinion on the "pearl demon drive p3002d". I currently have the "Yamaha fp9500c", and am curious as to if I should purchase the Pearl, or just learn your double stroke technique with the Yamaha pedals. I would highly value your input! Thank you, and continue to be yourself.

    • @wanjanechtangroeger
      @wanjanechtangroeger  5 років тому

      I think it depends on the level you play on - you don't "need" an expensive direct drive pedal to learn the technique and I think that up to 200bpm almost any pedal will be good enough. The most important reason for a better pedal is the long-term quality, especially of the drive shaft.

    Hi Wanja. Great work! I´m using the same pedals and I have a one question.
    On the video I see, that your heels are a little bit lower than the end of the pedal plate.
    Do you recommend playing with your technique like that?
    Or is it possible to achieve good consistency and speed even if the heel is placed on the pedal plate?
    Thank you for your kindly reply.
    Greetings from Slovakia.

    • @wanjanechtangroeger
      @wanjanechtangroeger  6 років тому

      I think it depends on the size of your feet. It doesn't really matter where the heel is - the ball of the foot is the point where the main pressure is applied to the pedal and with that you just have to find your sweet spot.

    Hey wanja! Huge fan. Quick question. Whenever i play anywhere past 130 bpm 16th notes, my ankles want to immediately jump into 190 to 200 bpm. Also my legs just wont play anywhere between 130 and 190. Whenever im supposed to use a mix of full leg motion and ankle motion, i just cant do it. I can only play full leg motion only, or ankle motion only. Any tips?

      This seems to be a problem for many ankle motion users - I think you just have to practise a lot to get better at this kind of tempo. Just try to practise playing as slow as possible with your ankles and as fast as possible with your legs! It might help in the beginning (especially for playing slower with your ankles) to lower the spring tension and/or to increase the beater distance.

    I use Trick, so this doesn't apply to my personal settings, but, on a pedal like that, I would tighten up the action of the slave pedal just a hair more than the main pedal...as to counter the sloppy action of the slave pedal...

      I don't know if I would say the slave is sloppy in terms of engineering, it's pretty darn close to how the right beater feels on a Trick double bass pedal. Just look at videos of how excellently made the bearings are. And they are literally two singles with just a connector rod

    Please make a video of how you get your drum tone? Sounds stellar ;) (tuning, muffling, whatever). Mine sounds like sht (22").

      It really is nothing special but since many people ask about that I will make a video about that in the future!

      If it rings on a bit if the other side from the beater has one of those giant hole in it you can put a put or a blanket it it

    hey Wanja, i have the new pearl eliminator redline pedal belt drive , so i just want to know what do you recommend to use the red cam or the blue cam?

      I always used the blue cam - a bit progressive but not as extreme as the red cam.

    Hi! Ty for the vid! I'm thinking about to buy a double pedal. Pearl eliminator or tama iron cobra. Wich one do you think better?

    • @wanjanechtangroeger
      @wanjanechtangroeger  5 років тому +1

      I liked the Eliminator better because it has more adjustment possibilities and I think it can be set up to feel less heavy than the IC.

    Hi! First, great tutorial! I have been adjusting my pedals as long as I've been playing but now I'm going to try your setup because you can play mutch faster than I can. I also own the Pearl Eliminator 2002C but my Dive Shaft (the connector between the 2 pedals) is damaged (again!) at the ball bearings (the part the Drive Shaft bends). I even bought a replacement (the same, original one for the Eliminator) some years ago, but that one also got damaged. When I put the left spring at the left of my right pedal it's even impossible to play because of the delay of the action.
    In short: what drive shaft do you use in this video and is it a solid, durable one?

      I used the drive shaft from the Pearl Demon Drive and that is very solid :)

    Hey! Nice vid! Do you think it’s a good idea for me to buy another double bass pedal (i play on a dw 2000 and i can go arround 200-210 bpm)? Thanks you!

    • @wanjanechtangroeger
      @wanjanechtangroeger  5 років тому

      I think at that level it is justified to buy a better one - and the dw 2000 is really not that great ;)

      I never owned a speed Cobra so I am not familiar with how to set it up.
