A small correction: Abbadon was not teleported back to the Vengeful Spirit during the fight under the Saturnine gate. He was teleported back to one of the digger machines they had used to try and dig under the gate. He later went and rallied some of his men and flew back to the Vengeful Spirit by Thunderhawk. Or rather, he stepped into the thunderhawk and then stepped out again in the Vengeful Spirit's docking bay, due to the warp shenanigans taking place in the latter parts of the siege.

There's actually some real world relevance to the Black Shields. My family name has two black shields in Lancaster Castle, though I've never been able to find out what it was my distant ancestors may have done to deserve such a thing

Excellent video, that telling of Harr’s story is pristine. It really is moving seeing such realization of the Astartes discovering their true purpose through the destruction of any humanity they had left. It didn’t matter how loyal they were, they were their own weapons of their demise and it really is indescribable how much of a monster the Emperor truly is. There has to be a much broader reason for the Heresy, because even if his plans didn’t go awry, how would it have been less destructive? So many pieces of the picture missing is scary enough, but very interesting. Anyway love the exploration, please do Tyrannids or custodes next, I can’t get enough of the bugs.
I’m definitely loyalist leaning but I absolutely love loyalist from the traitor legions and even just non chaos aligned renegades. Would love more stories following astartes who are just renegades loyal only to themselves and there renegade brothers as well as stories following traitor legion loyalists. They just seem to have so much character in the lore
This makes me wonder if there are any known Astartes "swords to plowshares" stories from the Heresy or post-Heresy era. It isn't necessarily something that would lead to exciting content like this, but I am curious.
That entire concept is erased from their psyche. A lot goes Into hypno-conditioning. Conditioned only for war and loyalty, such concepts such as peace and comfort are simply erased or replaced with increased aggression and a unending need for violence. Astartes are not human, they have no need or desire or concept of peace.
Thanks for your work on these vids. I'm new but am playing the crap out of Darktide. I'm going to buy a set and paint them with my daughters. Keep it up.These lore videos are are amazing. I keep falling asleep but I can't help but finish them
I love these videos about the lesser-known legions. There are so many cool legions that get overshadowed by a handful of the popular legions. Thanks for sharing and keeping these lesser-known legions alive!
It sounds like you're describing a pirate age of the Astartes. Some fought for the emperor, some against, some banded together for themselves, and some just did it to watch the worlds burn.
Someday, somewhere, in some way, I hope to be as strong and unyielding as Endryd Haar. That’s a level of strength that I don’t think I’ve ever seen or heard of in 40K before. Great video Luetin ^^
Awesome video Luetin! Harr and the Blackshields are one of my top added new lore tidbits to 30k. They are indeed so fascinating amidst the madness of the Heresy. And the audio drama trilogy featuring Harr penned by Josh Reynolds has got to be one of the best ones I listened to! While I wish Reynolds had had time to pen Harr's end, it is funny how he pinned Abaddon in death during that brutal fight.
Luetin has an uncanny ability to capture my attention and keep it. I listen to these videos in my truck a lot and even after a 2 hour video im sad that its over and im left wanting to know more. An absolutely incredible story teller. Id listen to a 6 hour video on how best to watch grass grow if Luetin made it.
This is perfect. I have just bought about 20 intercessors and have been trying to figure out a paint scheme for them. Gonna try and make them black shields as described in this video.
His Autonomy, Brutality, Fierce Drive to Die in Battle & ability to cleave through Astartes so easily, really makes me wonder if he was actually a surviving Thunder Warrior? If so, that would make his story even more of an epic tragedy....
Thank you again for your effort and insights - just started the episode but it will be a banger as all of your work. The Emperor protects and provides!
I enjoy the way you play out the stories of these lesser known characters. This was an astartes I wasn't aware of before. I hope you plan on doing more like this. 👍 👍
I will never not get excited whenever you upload a video. It's almost a certainty that I'll learn something new about WH40K. Some of my favourite figures from the Heresy are Sevatarion, Alexis Polux and Revuel Arvida aka Janus.
I'm actually creating a Blackshield army in 40k, they are a band of rogue Astartes who originated from the Dark Brotherhood warband, now called The Black Sails, they live as Pirates and Mercenaries who control several worlds in the Pale Stars. They are not so much as loyalist or traitor, but rather Anti-heroes, they'll ally with or against anyone as long as it serves their own interests. For the moment, the Inquisition is willing to hire them to cause problems for Traitor and chaos fleets trying to move through their sector as well as act as a dumping ground for Astartes still loyal to the Imperium but for various reasons could no longer serve in their chapters, not even in the Deathwatch.
Loyalist Astartes from traitor Legions and traitor Astartes who still rejected chaos are more compelling in my opinion. I'd love to see some rogue Astartes collaborate with a T'au splinter faction.
Brother - You could be read audio books. Thoroughly enjoy your content. It's just pure, quality - sure, we all have to wait for it... That's the thing about quality, it takes time. So I wait patiently, and then I enjoy thoroughly.
The blackshields I find more interesting than the traitor legionaries who stayed loyal to the Emperor, are the loyalist legionaries who turned against Him. It takes far more of an esoteric and personal motivation to side with the Warmaster even when your own primarch is staying loyal to the emperor than to stay loyal to the emperor as your primarch turns traitor.
new watcher love your series! i was originally put off by 40k because too much soft scifi. but im coming around to it and i really like the STC concept. basically what if in the future people had command of genies in a bottle? seems more plausible now than ever.
So I finally listened to this entire video without sleeping. One stand out point for me that you made was the speculation that The Emperor had planned to kill off some of the Astartes at some point in the future. In the past I would have disagreed with that but more recently I feel like that was almost certainly going to be the case. It's clear that some of the Legions were only kept around because they could still be a useful tool. Why was there very little effort to rehabilitate or keep certain legions in line, such as the World Eaters? It didn't matter that Angron was unstable and putting the nails in his sons. They were good at killing and if too many of them died in battle it was just less to clean up later. I could even believe that the Blood Angels would have been on the list of Legions that needed to be eliminated. The undesirable legions would have still been useful until harsh compliances were no longer a big issue. The keepers would have been the Ultra Marines, Fists, Dark Angels, ect. They would have been useful to maintain order and deal with any new threats after the crusade but the unstable legions regardless of loyalty would have to go. I could even be compelled to believe that the Space Wolves could have been considered for such extermination. It's fairly clear to me now that The Emperor had his goals in mind and nothing else really mattered.
I also gotta add. Wasn't it a mantilith pattern termite assault rig abbadon teleported back to after haar did some facial cosmetic surgery on the first captain? The bedrock was denying the Tele homing signal or something preventing the 1st company from extraction
One of the original batch of Space Marines and referred to DNA-wise by Fabius Bile as a "Mongrel" as he was created before Space Marine creation was streamlined and standardized. Almost the equivalent of a missing link between the Thunder Warriors and the Space Marines with the best and worst qualities of both. A walking weapon Malcador didn't hesitate to unleash for his secret projects. So strong and powerful This proto generation Space Marine killed Thunder Warriors with his bare hands. I wish and hope that they expand upon this character more in the future. The early history and any lore on these first "Space Marines" would be greatly appreciated and definitely books I would read.
Bro, I've listened to your videos at work (and a couple at home) ever since i discovered them a few days ago and somehow forgot to sub. The oversight has been rectified.
It was obviously a great video as I was asleep in about 2 minutes… don’t know what it was about but great job bud! Will have another listen at some point 😂
Thanks for this video! I read all the HH/SoT novels but did not listen to any audiobook, so I found it quite strange to all of a sudden be reading about a supposedly major character who had never showed up before. It was the same with Loken being back all of a sudden, with many references made to how tough it had been for Garro to bring him back. Although I have nothing against audiobooks, I really hope the Blackshields series gets released as a novel at some point. A sort of omnibus, similar to was BL did with Shattered Legions, would be amazing.
This is in fact one of the issues with the lore, its quite scattered across formats. I do recommend the many audio shorts. They are usually just £1-2 from Black Library. Although the more recent ones since 8th edition are usually more palatable, the stuff from the mid 2000s can be... a little cringeworthy.

I keep falling asleep but I can't help but finish them
Absolute quality lore-mongering. This and the Cawl episode are top tier stuff. Thank you!
I love these videos about the lesser-known legions. There are so many cool legions that get overshadowed by a handful of the popular legions. Thanks for sharing and keeping these lesser-known legions alive!
I am always ecstatic when LT drops a new video, such a great storyteller & entertainer. Looking forward to watching it tonight!
Oh good a video to fall asleep to that won't give me nightmares.
Praise be the Omissiah!
This channel rules, I got the new game that just came out and I’m really enjoying learning about the lore, thanks for providing so much content !
Abaddon going Super Saiyan in Saturnine had to be one of my favorite moments in the entirety of the SoT. It was written so well. Oh my gosh.
SO GOOD. The end gave me goosebumps, it did. More from this time period, please!
His Autonomy, Brutality, Fierce Drive to Die in Battle & ability to cleave through Astartes so easily, really makes me wonder if he was actually a surviving Thunder Warrior?
If so, that would make his story even more of an epic tragedy....
The last audio drama of him. Actually confirms he was a thunderwarrior
Thank you again for your effort and insights - just started the episode but it will be a banger as all of your work.
The Emperor protects and provides!
Luetin each day keeps heresy away.
Been maining Endryd in "WH40K Legions" card game for a few years, been waiting for this video for awhile lol
Feeding Algo hoping it wakes up and spreads the word of the Lore Master Luetin far and wide
Loyal World Eaters are amazing.
Brother - You could be read audio books.
Thoroughly enjoy your content. It's just pure, quality - sure, we all have to wait for it...
That's the thing about quality, it takes time.
So I wait patiently, and then I enjoy thoroughly.
A day with Luetin content... is a good day.
Love that Abaddons revelation at 58:30 is basically 'The Greenskins were right all along....'
Letttttssss goooo, I just caught up with all your vids this weekend
What an amazing video. Learned a lot about the Blackshields today. :D
I think the period immediately after the heresy and everything from that point up to "now" is interesting and needs to be explored more.
😮 W H A T!!!! Luetin you are awesome, thanks for this great discourse! 👍
Always look forward to some Lutin09 niche lore. Much appreciated.
new watcher love your series! i was originally put off by 40k because too much soft scifi. but im coming around to it and i really like the STC concept. basically what if in the future people had command of genies in a bottle? seems more plausible now than ever.
Spectacular video! Love learning about Warhammer!
I love this rambling tale. Cadence top notch!
37:29 It's wild that I never even thought of that... bwarrrrrr
What a day it's been for lore and this is the cherry on top thank you Luetin amazing as usual!!
Your still the best war hammer 40k guy on UA-cam, thanks
So this is the Brother of the Doom Slayer? Impressive Guy... Haar surely is a beast and a real Warrior. Impressive story!
New Luetin right at lunch time let's gooo
It's kinda cool to see they're starting to add nuance to the setting.
Rumor has it that one of the Yellow Kings main goals is to find the limitations of Abaddons plot armor.
Always love your videos Luetin!
I hope Luetin does a video over theheresy in light of the last The End and The Death.
Luetin, if you had to pick one Astartes to be in the entire 40k verse, who would it be? Thanks for your work, brother! 🙏🏻
Black shield are welcome in the deathwatch 🔥☠🔥
Thank you Leutin!
Man. This was so good it kept me awake.
What a great upload, thank you so much!
Goddamit. I've conditioned hearing your soothing voice with sleep-time so each time I start a vid, big yawns come.
Awesome video, as always!
The Riven Hound, neat !
Huzzah! I now have something to listen to on my long car ride tonight
At the gym whilst listening to Haar tear Abaddon a new data port gives me quite the significant pump.
Damn, this was a cool story!
I love the perspective of seeking a true warriors death for Abbadon. Would he ever face a better challenge than Har and Garrow?
Mr. Leutin I NEED an Iron Warriors video from you pleaseeeee!
If I had a nickle for every time there was a astartes who was too angry to die.
All the nickels. Even the ones that have some sort of weird corrosion on them.
You might be able to afford a forge world army lol
