There was also this (www.artstation.com/artwork/y9mNn) from the same man. On to the point, I don't think that the "haul" is the Ascendant pocket. Especially when many Ascendant portals can just be floating there or lying on the ground because some Taken walked on it. Then again, I don't know, nobody except Bungie really does at the moment. I personally think the haul is a chunk of an ice planet... THE ice planet. The one that is crawling with creatures that may very well be a teaser for what's to come. If not, well... I was wrong. Interesting thing, some scientists think the coldest place in the solar system could be the bottom of some of the deeper craters on the moon which have always been in Shadow and never seen light. I can’t help but feel the Drifter made a deal with something on that planet. The lore says he and his crew’s light were extinguished. I've always enjoyed thinking about the difference between the motes of light and dark. This also applies to those dark ships in the ending cutscene. The motes of light are spheres and motes of dark are tetrahedrons, and in geometry they are pretty much polar opposites. Tetrahedrons are the simplest figure one can create, it has the least amount of sides possible while still being a three dimensional figure. A sphere is a quite advanced figure. It can be represented by making sides smaller and adding more sides over and over, and to create a perfect sphere you'd need an infinite amount of sides.
kinda annoyed that as far as i'm aware there's not really a weapon in destiny we can call our own, other characters seem to forge their armour and weapons which in turn gives the gear unique abilities based on the fighting style of that person yet here our characters are, arguably the best guardians to exist because of the feats we've accomplished yet the closest thing to a weapon we create is one we make with the drifter which is his idea and his design. bungie should do a contest to ask players to come up with exotics for every class of armour and weapon and make like the top 3 real or something. attribute it to a quest where our guardian wants to forge something of their own. not something of someone elses legend.

I LOVE YOUR LORE VIDEOS!!! way more in depth than anyone else's lore videos. the shape of the motes thing blew my mind as well, had never even noticed they were shaped like the shipes from the cut scene before
My buddy and I are obsessed with the drifter lore . Even before we got our hands on gambit and drifter lore I always thought the drifter was pretty shady . He’s making us do his dirty work for him. Can’t wait to hear more lore!!
I've read all the Gambit Lore that you get from the Collections Tab/Triumphs Page in-game, it never occurred to me that the Armor also all had Lore on it. Dayum! This is why we need Lore Masters.
I can hope that come the season of the drifter there will more to the lore of his character and what his true reasons are behind hosting gambit, but as always Byf and his lore friends do good work on doing videos like this for all the lore fans of Destiny.
One interesting thing also to note about the Drifter is his music. A lot of times in the soundtrack there are key musical phrases that are played over and over that can help describe the thing that it’s tied to. For example, several tracks have the same theme plays in the background, and those things are closely tied to the Darkness. In the same regard several tracks that play in the Farm and the Tower have the main themes of the Light. When listening to the Drifter’s theme “gambit,” what you hear is the main theme of the Darkness from Destiny 2 (aka the Argos boss music theme), the Taken King main theme, and those three notes that you hear when you see the tetrahedron ships. I have always thought that the music is meaningful, and this is another piece of proof that the Drifter is a character of darkness.
I really appreciate what you do. You really do put time and effort into these videos, breaking the overly complex lore into bite-sized narrated videos, and sometimes, animated videos with quality on par with real companies. Plus, your able to keep up consistent uploads, even in your hardest times. Plus, your voice is smoother than butter. No really.
I've read all the lore on the drifter. It's very compelling. Very good story telling and really managed to keep my interest. I like that you're covering it. The drifter just might be one of the most interesting characters in Destiny... Outside of Cade6 of course
I think the Drifter is attempting to weaponize darkness. There's a lore tab (I can't remember which) that tells the story of the Drifter stealing Tex Mechanicha goods from a shipment meant for Shaax. The conversation he has with the guardians guarding (no pun intended) indicates to me that he is attempting to weaponize darkness in case the light goes away again.
Thank you for finally doing a bit on this , I've been wanting some lore on him as well as the taken in the whisper mission lol great stuff as always man!
Can totaly relate with the cold since I lost 2 gambit matches tonight because I was sneezing 20 times a minute during the primeval melt:)) also love the video, can’t wait for more on the same topic. Drifter and his Gambit have been fascinating me since they were introduced, and adding Shin and the Shadows of Yor in the picture only made it better.
I found interesting the lore told in the Malfeasance questline, specially the strike and the final talk before you get the gun. He talks about "the man with the golden gun", at first in a desperate way, but then when you go to collect Malfeasance he says "you're part of my crew now" and even gives sort of a threat about double crossing him, talking about if that happens "let's just say it wasn't a coincidence that the man with the golden gun found Callum" I really want to know the repercussions of us, guardians of the city, becoming part of his shady crew (who happens to always die as it seems) will have
Awesome lore vid as usual. Definitely blew my mind hearing about the lore relevance of the shapes of motes. Looking forward to more exploration , lore wise, on malfeasance.
Suuuper interesting video. I can't wait to learn more about this character, the gamemode, everything! Everything in Forsaken is actually so fascicating
Watching these videos 2 years later makes you realize how more laid back and forgiving the game was. Now everything can one-hit you in gambit and your entire game depends on how good your invader is.
I think it is worth noting that the lore card says that the drifters smil is "all teeth". Isn't that the same description that was given to soe of the stuff related to other entities that were related to the darkness? Seems like it could have been a double meaning both of the smile's physical appearance and the motivation behind it.
You should tie in the creation of the Malfeasance with the video on the Shadows of Yor/Dredgen Yor. As they are directly related. Drifter acquired our Guardian’s help to forge Malf in order to stop Shin Malphur with the remaining Shadows. In fact, if what the Drifter says is true, Shin will be gunning for us since we possess it. This would explain why the quest name for the Last Word is called The Draw. We, and four other Malf wielders, will probably be facing down Shin. The other clue to this is the Gambit’s Triumph being called “Dredgen”. So you may want to consider doing one video with all of this together.
Watching this Gambit footage makes me think, "Gee, I wish when I invaded I got a team who stands still out in the open and doesn't shoot back, and that I didn't constantly spawn right in front of a shotgun."
I have been reading through the books of sorrow again because I got the Anthology and the point on the Darkness being simplicity and the light being complexity is actually mentioned somewhat in there as well, as Sathona is quoted as saying "...I have my father's familiar. Look! It answers me in plain words," when the sisters come upon the leviathan, which seems to suggest that they believe the leviathan is doing the opposite, speaking in more complex phrases and presenting more complex thoughts whereas the worm tells Sathona simple things that she can somewhat understand.
Taken Trojan Horse? Seems like Savathun is in control of the Taken. Drifter seems like he was tricked by Savathun (maybe into believing he’s “helping” while also being provided substantial power). Having this mobile ascendent plane capable of spawning big bad Taken being brought inside our system to bake just feels like a surprise attack. Really enjoying your videos Byf!
Happy New Years BYF and congrats on you and all who help you with your fundraiser, and as many smiles you put on the faces of those at St. Jude and the children and the families and parents of those affected may God continue to bless you and those who work with you and all who contributed to your cause
"Spheres," not "circles." Also, thank you for saying "tetrahedrons" and not "pyramids." Edit: I was just directed to the definition of pyramid and apparently, a tetrahedron is also known as a triangular pyramid so calling the darkness ships "pyramids" is not inaccurate like I previously thought. The pedant in me is pleased by this.
What's the difference? A triangular base pyramid is a tetrahedron right? I guess you mean it in the sense that "a square is a rectangle but a rectangle is not always a square"?
Great video again Byf. Would definitely be interested in what exactly the Drifter's relationship with The Vanguard is, how aware of him are they. We know Cayde definitely had knowledge and even some kind of friendship with him. Cheers!
I love how the possibility of the drifter getting a bigger role in D3 keeps growing! We've heard that you get darkness subclasses in D3 through Anon The Nine how cool would it be if that happens because the Drifter teaches us how to control the darkness!
Since I’ve read both, yes both lore books associated with the Draw quest, I’ll say this. One of them will change your perception of certain things we have assumed, and when reading back through old lore with that perception I found myself wondering why these assumptions were made with what we had.
Happy new year byf, and happy new year to you all fellow gardians. I wish to you all the very best for 2019. bungie should do a contest to ask players to come up with exotics for every class of armour and weapon and make like the top 3 real or something. attribute it to a quest where our guardian wants to forge something of their own. not something of someone elses legend.
Was touch of malice our weapon ? I’m sure Eris and toland showed us how to forge it but I think I or you made it.
Touch of Malice is more of Eris's, similar to Shaxx owning raze lighter now. The closest I imagine is the khvostov.
Become *Legend*
Osiris forge weapons, all created and forged by your guardian and when you really look into it there has been a few weapons you personally forge or create
@@callumcourtneyhart4530 i always got the impression the osiris weapons were pre existing because of the indicator on the wall listing the weapons. they're probably made by one of osiris' fanatics who shares his obsession with the vex.
what other weapons are our creations? and i mean to the extent of exotics. like a unique weapon with a unique perk that isn't attributed to it being someone elses weapon
Happy New Year Byf. Best of luck in 2019. Keep up the good work :)
Ngl there's nothing more exciting for me than seeing a video of Byf's appear in my notifications
In a post "Beyond Light" world, it is almost comical how much foreshadowing we got about the arrival and guardians using the darkness
I LOVE YOUR LORE VIDEOS!!! way more in depth than anyone else's lore videos. the shape of the motes thing blew my mind as well, had never even noticed they were shaped like the shipes from the cut scene before
Unrelated but can we just agree that gambit is still so god damn great as a game mode?
The Living Flame My favorite game mode by far. And I’m even a strictly solo player (mostly because I have no one to play with)
Not at all unless you happen to have queenbreaker
It’s fucking hell for me cuz I haven’t been lucky enough to get a Queenbreaker yet
Darkness121 Same
The Living Flame I enjoy it but A LOT of people can’t stand it.
My buddy and I are obsessed with the drifter lore . Even before we got our hands on gambit and drifter lore I always thought the drifter was pretty shady . He’s making us do his dirty work for him. Can’t wait to hear more lore!!
St. Jude is an absolutely fantastic charity! And it's 30 minutes from where I live! Great video as always Byf!
I've read all the Gambit Lore that you get from the Collections Tab/Triumphs Page in-game, it never occurred to me that the Armor also all had Lore on it. Dayum! This is why we need Lore Masters.
Who knew that the geometry class I took in high school 5 years ago would come in handy for a destiny 2 lore video. Huh. Loved this one, Byf!
No really.
This has me hyped for Joker's Wild. The Drifter's lore is so interesting.
The drifter is getting ready for D3 for the darkness classes.
Warlock, Hunter, Titan and Maverick
Darknes classes gunna be d2 now
I've read all the lore on the drifter. It's very compelling. Very good story telling and really managed to keep my interest. I like that you're covering it. The drifter just might be one of the most interesting characters in Destiny... Outside of Cade6 of course
Just the motivation I need to push on and finish the malfeasance quest. Thanks Byf!
Byf has a voice like David Attenborough: calming and really enjoyable to listen too!
I was literally just re-listening to Part 1 when you uploaded this lol. Thanks for the content Byf and God bless.
I found interesting the lore told in the Malfeasance questline, specially the strike and the final talk before you get the gun.
He talks about "the man with the golden gun", at first in a desperate way, but then when you go to collect Malfeasance he says "you're part of my crew now" and even gives sort of a threat about double crossing him, talking about if that happens "let's just say it wasn't a coincidence that the man with the golden gun found Callum"
I really want to know the repercussions of us, guardians of the city, becoming part of his shady crew (who happens to always die as it seems) will have
Dang when you kill with Malfeasance you make Thorn, Last Word, and Luna’s Howl look like a green hand cannon from destiny 1
Man I haven't seen a lore vid like this in a year.
I'm loving the lore on Drifter and I can't wait to see more!
I love Gambit so much. Both the gamemode and the lore show just how good Destiny can be
I'm fully expecting a lore video on the Laggy Hunter on April 1st now, Byf. Don't disappoint.
MASSIVE PROPS BYF!
My 100% respect for all the time you put for these videos! By far the most interesting one yet!!!
Good to have ya back Byf!
ALRIGHT ALRIGHT ALRIGHT! Another great lore video on the field!
ByF you just blew my mind!!
so good to have you back bröther
Alright alright alright!
New year, new lore vid from Byf!
I hope we will get more Drifter lore in Jokers Wild. I really want to know what that 'other' is. Keep up the great work Byf!
A new byf video ? Let me get my popcorn ready
It feels like it'd be almost fitting for the character if we were to never know what his intentions exactly were.
I think it is worth noting that the lore card says that the drifters smil is "all teeth". Isn't that the same description that was given to soe of the stuff related to other entities that were related to the darkness? Seems like it could have been a double meaning both of the smile's physical appearance and the motivation behind it.
Imagine, the artifact he tows around is the dark mirror of the traveler Xur spoke about in D1
I appreciate the fact that the only reason that hunter joke made it in the beginning is cuz byf reads comments 💚
YOU BLEW MY MIND WITH THE GEOMETRY LORE
Just found you today, but your recital of the lore had me hooked!
Drifter says what he found was “other” Dredgen Yor also tells his ghost that he has become “other”
I have been reading through the books of sorrow again because I got the Anthology and the point on the Darkness being simplicity and the light being complexity is actually mentioned somewhat in there as well, as Sathona is quoted as saying "...I have my father's familiar. Look! It answers me in plain words," when the sisters come upon the leviathan, which seems to suggest that they believe the leviathan is doing the opposite, speaking in more complex phrases and presenting more complex thoughts whereas the worm tells Sathona simple things that she can somewhat understand.
I think its pretty cool that Byf is gonna be in my hometown of Memphis and at St. Jude where my mom used to be a nurse at.
Fantastic video as always
Awesome vid as always! Really pumped about gambit lore and how it brings us closer to my favorite lore from d1, malphur vs yor
7:30 that linear shot
Drifter-Woooo!
So Imma be hearing all of Shin's lines in your voice now, personally I feel its a perfect fit
Mind blown!!! Love the video! Please continue!
Happy New Years BYF and congrats on you and all who help you with your fundraiser, and as many smiles you put on the faces of those at St. Jude and the children and the families and parents of those affected may God continue to bless you and those who work with you and all who contributed to your cause
"Spheres," not "circles."
Also, thank you for saying "tetrahedrons" and not "pyramids."
Edit: I was just directed to the definition of pyramid and apparently, a tetrahedron is also known as a triangular pyramid so calling the darkness ships "pyramids" is not inaccurate like I previously thought. The pedant in me is pleased by this.
What's the difference? A triangular base pyramid is a tetrahedron right? I guess you mean it in the sense that "a square is a rectangle but a rectangle is not always a square"?
@@trickytreyperfected1482
Spheres are circles, but circles are not always spheres? 🤔
They're called Pyramids in game lmao
@@ablone They're called both in-game. There's a ghost projection called "tetrahedron projection" and it's an image of their ships.
@@Alassandros hmmm I checked it rn and you're right
Great video again Byf. Would definitely be interested in what exactly the Drifter's relationship with The Vanguard is, how aware of him are they. We know Cayde definitely had knowledge and even some kind of friendship with him. Cheers!
Thanks for the daily dose of enlightenment
Thanks for the video hotshot! See you on Europa brother.
My byf, awesome vid, I would absolutely love to hear lore about the creation of the malfeasance! Cheers lad
The best lore topic by the best narrator❤️
I love how the possibility of the drifter getting a bigger role in D3 keeps growing! We've heard that you get darkness subclasses in D3 through Anon The Nine how cool would it be if that happens because the Drifter teaches us how to control the darkness!
Who else knows the lore already and just comes here for byf’s voice and the hunter time lord?
Wonderful as ever, Byf. Well done!
Yeah theese lore videos on the drifter are really great and knowing that wére gonna get last word soon, it’s very likely that new lore is coming along. Can’t wait for you byf to cover it. And a big shout to you and all of those who donate for children! Helping those in need is the greatest rewarding thing
Another way that the shapes fit with Light and Dark is that doing what is wrong always seems like it’s easier than doing what is right.
and here is another great vid by my name is byf . thanks for the great content man
The drifter also says in his idle dialogue in the tower “I could think of a few ways to spend these motes, none of them pleasant”. So we know he spends them on something, whatever that is...
"They wanted to fight ya right?! That's what they said!"
My favorite phrase of his. Also "a scorn is just a fallen down on his luck."
