I've been searching for the remains since the Dark Age! Us: Yeah, the Traveler Hyperbeam'd the Witness' ship and started the resurrection process, I and a couple of my buddies went in, finished it, and killed Nezarec. Nessa: You resurrected Nezarec, the God I believe with my whole heart in, just to kill them!? Us: Yeah... they were giving off bad vibes over on Neptune. Nessa:... I might be in a bit over my head here, aren't I. Us: Yeah, Nezzy's like, the 5th Disciple we've killed of the Witness. Nessa: 5TH!?
Technically we’ve only killed three disciples so far. Rhulk, Calus, and Nezarec. We’re not really sure who any of the other Disciples are, but we ARE, however, made known of one in “The Cave” lore entry for RoN. And no, Eramis is not a disciple, not even close. She’s moreso a piggybacker
Hey Byf, do you think there’s something to say about Nessa’s choice of attire? The thing that stands out to me is the way it’s described as “robe like”. If it isn’t exactly a robe, could it be similar to what we’ve seen on the veiled statues? Just a crazy thought. Also, no idea if you’ll see this but it’s worth the shot. P.S. Could be possible that the tombs of Nezarec are places of worship, given that there is an altar in the fourth and that it houses a relic which the acolytes find pretty valuable.

@@zhikari3231 It’s not really a theory though. It’s latex out in front of us. In plunder eramis is collecting the parts of nez for the witness but we take them first causing the witness to punish eramis by converting one of her people into scorn. In the shin malphur lore drifter told him he found the relic in a far planet cold enough to snuff your light, so why guessing earth, mars or the shore? It clearly references the lore card about drifter's team dying in a cold planet to some alien paracausal totem. And if i recall correctly it was an exosolar planet, but dont quote me on that
For a brief moment I had thought that when you said the "Drifter had this to say" and it cut to him singing the tune I thought that was going to be it and I had a chuckle.
Nezerak is the nightmare aka tormenting. Perhaps he dies at any world he is tormenting and gathers power till it brings him back. Like a sacrifice to the Darkness, this may also make it harder to stop him. I just wonder why Nezerak is not fallen. It looks like the Witness makes a Discipline for each rase he's destroying.
(Haven't watched the video jet) I expect a Nezarec season about the acolytes and drifter. Drifter seems to know a lot more about Nazarec than He let's on and I would absolutly love a new drifter-centric season. He is one of my favorite characters.
Hello Sir Byf o7 First of all, I LOVE your vids. Been a huge fan ever since and I believe my first vid of you I watched was the story of destiny up to shadowkeep. I want to mention, that I overheard some guys of my fireteam who were in a conversation about Root of Nightmares and the Savathun Mission: 2 truths 1 lie. Savathun stated in one Mission: Soon youll be able to move/shift planets around. They connected it to the Macrocosm encounter which blew my mind. Also I replayed the Legacy of Shadowkeep and it gave a new insight for me, knowing my ghost was controlled by the witness and knowing of the witness motives and plans felt totally new. Keep up your AWESOME work. Much love.
My ears perked right up after hearing Shin's name. I don't know why but the story behind Shin, Dradgen, The Shadows, and Drifter has captivated me for a while and if I hadn't already had my Hunter set after Cayde, Shin would definitely be the guy I'd go with
We all need to keep in mind the Driver does have tyes to the 9 and does do their bidding from time to time. Before this is all said and done I'm almost sure the 9 will have a part to play.
I’d love to know what Nezarec was like before the Witness found him. A history in him like the one we got for Rhulk would be fantastic. Although, I think the devs want to keep him a little more mysterious so he still seems like some kind of demon. My fear is that in game - I doubt the devs would do this - the tombs of Nezarec correspond to campaigns he’s taken on on behalf of the Witness. His influence does seem more insidious once he’s “dead” after all and none of the lore tabs we’ve been reading so far have indicated that he’s been “alive” for any of them. …wait, maybe he’s never been alive at all? Maybe he’s a manifestation of the worst memories held by the darkness itself? The psion ritual we were reading about recently were that woman’s lover was offered to Nezarec because “he was powerful” could be them offering up a vessel for Nezarec to inhabit.
Drifter is arguably the coolest and most interesting character in the whole game and we get so little time to uncover things about him or hear from him. Wish he had a bigger place in the story.
I love Drifter. The Tower may have not trusted him at first, but, he’s more or less a lawful neutral to me. The light sarcasm from Drifter when he relayed what we’d been told about Mithraks being a ruthless and cruel Captain long ago.. you can tell the voice actor has fun playing the charming rogue.
I just want to broach the subject of Ulan Tan for a second. With the themes of light and dark having some kind crossing or meeting and the raid armor looking a lot like the markings on Ulan Tan’s ship, should we not be taking another look into his philosophy. He got things more right than just about anybody it seems.
I have a question. We saw in the Plunder cutscene that Nezarec got chopped up by Fallen long ago, after Mithrax’s mom found his corpse. Since the tombs seem to be of Fallen origin, isn’t it possible that they were constructed after Nezarec was defiled? Like they chopped him up, wore the pieces/gained power from them, and then made tombs to worship the guy who gave them their power?
The drifter was CLEAERLY not at all surprised when it showed Misraakskell had a naughty backstory. Drifter is also good at keeping secrets. He treats Eido like an uncle would a neice. We know that Misraakskell collected pieces of nezarec. I vote the buyer was Misraakskell himself. Thoughts?
In light of everything involving Nezarec and Lightfall, has left me eith a burning question that I’ve delved deep into. Now hear me out, what if Void is actually a darkness power. Not gifted by the traveler, but wrested control of from Nez and the tormentors during the first collapse, wielded by lightbearers similarly to stasis. Destiny 1 had lots of flavor texts talking about how the use of Void was generally frowned upon, but eventually accepted, similar to stasis. Iron Lord Timur, a voidlock, used his void power to mind control enemies, the psions worshipped Nez and use a void power with their psychic abilities, the hive use primarily void light in their larger rituals, and so much more. Nezarec being a ‘commander of the void’, and all of our og vanguards prior to ikora being primarily arc and solar uses makes me beg the question, what if Strand isn’t darkness, but Void is. Would leave us with 2 light, 2 dark, and 1 paracausal subclass. Theres alot more, but i don’t want this to get too long. Just food for thought.
I feel like this isn’t just Bungie fleshing out Nezarec and his cult further. This may be foreshadowing to a future expansion in which Guardians and the Coaltion must travel to the Acendent Plane and somewhere beyond Sol, to destroy Nezarec completely. As well as spend a season killing off his cult until the very memory of him is torn asunder from reality and thought.
While I do appreciate Byf’s style and hypotheses, it’s often difficult to sit through videos, like this one, due to Bungie’s convoluted and vague lore. At the end of the video, Byf states that he hopes this video helped to clarify stuff about Nezarec. The honest truth? No, the video really didn’t clarify much, at all. I don’t think that’s Byf’s fault.
Very quick thing to think about, what of the witness kept his head in that thing in the raid and it just gave him a tormentor body, it makes sense if his paracostal conscience would still more or less reside in his central nervous system, incubating him with a new body to wake and continue his work.
Nezerac: oh boy, I sure do love pain, suffering and chaos! I hope when I die I get turned into a weapon🥰🥰🥰 Mithrax’s mom: he doesn’t need his liver Mithrax: I made tea

Hey Byf while i finishing up the lightfall story on my other character i noticed that the witness back look like the Greek symbol Delta that is used in mathematics to represent the change in a variable, and it is also used to represent the difference between two numbers. just a little thing i noticed.
So, Nezarec is a pretty big guy, the reliquaries were quite small, and all that was left for the Witness was his head; I’m inclined to believe that either some of his parts have been destroyed or lost, or there are many more tombs or places where Nezarec is scattered across.
I love the whole idea behind Drifter. But honestly…I hope eventually we learn more about him. Like the season of the Drifter was good-but I still feel like we don’t know much. Idk I just feel like he’s this big enigma and that Bungie is keeping him that way….just to have him be this mystery that’s ongoing.
Quick point: "exoplanets of sol" is an oxymoron, an exoplanet is any planet outside of our solar system. I'm assuming you meant just an planetoid in the outer reaches like the Oort Cloud or Kuiper Belt
I think it is a better descriptor than they for nezarec because it’s a chimera. In any fantasy ever chimeras are made from other species and amalgamated together.
I imagine hearing his whispers and then him just showing up out of the blue at the end of a raid, dungeon, something and being so pleased to see us. “Oh guardian it’s so good to see you again. It’s nice to know you’ve kept my memory alive and well. *I knew you would after all*. Now, scream for me!” I’d have one of those punisher gif “nononowaitwaitwait!” moments
@MynameisByf I know it has nothing to do with this video. I noticed that when The Witness touches the traveler and has that vision. Near the end, you see the veins (roots) like from the tree. Only they appear to be in a human shape like it's a side view of a chest and a arm. Let me know if anyone else sees it
The idea that it is nessa makes a lot of sense but my first though was Erimis. Her father is mentioned at some point in the lore about the relics from what i remember and the long claws etc. Also something im just thinking couldnt we get ashermear to use the vex net to predict where something like the tombs are or where other important living beings are that are non paracausal.

I don't think Nessa is Mykels daughter because Mykel was able to get into contact with Koraxes in the middle of a fallen base and Acasia in the wild. At the time Drifter encountered Nessa both psions and fallen would kill any human on sight, no questions asked. This would mean that humanity would have to be on some what good terms with the Fallen outlaws of the Reef(after the events of Forsaken when our guardian forged a partnership with Spider) and the Cabal(after season of the chosen, once we began to build up a relationship with Caitals Cabal). Mykel is not a guardian and as far as we know does not have any darkness powers. If he approached Acasia in the wilds during the dark age she would have killed him on site. If he tried to contact Koraxes during the dark age, he would have been gun down by other fallen before he could make it to pirates door. However I think Nessa is connected by blood to Mykel, I think she is his mother.
Well, a tomb is the acknowledgement that someone has died, a 4th tomb means that Nezarec has died four times, maybe his 5th tomb was the Lunar Pyramid and the 6th Tomb now being the Main pyramid (Root of nightmares raid place) of The Witness' fleet?. Now then the story for Season of the Plunder could boil down about The Witness wanting the pieces of Nezarec to bring him back and ask him the location of the Veil, Nezarec had control of The Veil and as he was the harbinger of the Collapse on behalf of The Witness to reduce everything to the Final Shape.
I think if we end up having a season where the cult of nezzy boy are the enemies we will probably also see Arnor and other in lore only characters get a time to shine in game proper
I'm really truly surprised that Byf hasn't started to wonder what might be happening to Osiris. Because the Miisraks made a tea the body parts of nezarec in the 8 relics and osiris drank that tea to make his full recovery. Mark my words, Osiris likely will be revealed as either a new disciple or as a new kind of monster further down the line.

Us: Oh! Nezarec! I've met them!
Nessa: You did? But they're dead...
Us: Yeah I know, I killed them.
Nessa: What? But you were only Risen like, 8 years ago.
@@twelved4983 he’s probably counting oryx and savathun even though they aren’t disciples lmao
Idk why I love this dialogue 😂
@@MumboJumboZXC I am referring to Oryx and Savathûn. They aren't explicitly Disciples, but they are honorary ones imo.
I need more Byf's Drifter impersonation!
Thank you as always Lore Daddy!
P.S. Qugu lore book from the raid? Could Nezarec be a Qugu? Maybe the mentioned sibling in it? I’ll stop blathering now.
Recently ive been watching all the old lore videos about Drifter, good to see a more recent one.
Could be possible that the tombs of Nezarec are places of worship, given that there is an altar in the fourth and that it houses a relic which the acolytes find pretty valuable.
I wonder what the Lucent hives reaction to the traveler dying is?
Shit I forgot about them, I hope they’re dealing with this traveler situation well lol
@@robotafflicition The old ways die hard. I'm sure they'll try to turn it inside out on the next Inversion Day.
@@BiZkWiK87 Do they celebrate inversion day? I kinda always thought that was an Oryx-descended Hive holiday only... Though now that I think about it, considering Savathun made a whole temple to Oryx, her Hive celebrating his greatest accomplishment isn't that weird.
@@fjnordthedwarf4004 I'm mainly spit-balling. But I bet it's not outside the realm of possibility.
@@fjnordthedwarf4004 I mean that makes sense, but it seems like a bit of a troll considering the chosen guardian of the temple was aluk-hul, which makes me doubt if she seriously intended to foster worship with basically the antichrist of Oryx being there all the time
I got a couple thoughts about this. First, Eris probably taught Mythrax how to make the Nez tea which was over my head on the season. I'm like how did he know how to make that? And second,I think there were 7 tombs because Bungie, and one relic never had a second tomb because it was cast off into space I think.
Oh and Nessa is for sure named after Nezarec
This makes total sense why eramis is collecting the parts. It’s so the witnesses could reassemble nez.
While that theory is awesome....we used the pieces we took from eramis to bring Osiris back to consciousness.
So that kind amakes it harder to believe...but...what if by using them on osiris....we tied nezarec to him, that as long as he's alive..nezarec exists in this reality
@@zhikari3231 It’s not really a theory though. It’s latex out in front of us. In plunder eramis is collecting the parts of nez for the witness but we take them first causing the witness to punish eramis by converting one of her people into scorn. We didnt know the witness had nez’s head until the raid so it makes sense why the witness sent eramis to collect the body parts now.
Byf: Here's what Drifter had to say:
Drifter: bomBOMMM-ba-ba-ba-bomBOMMMM
This NEVER gets old 😂😂😂😂
Drifter is my favorite character, any lore on him is appreciated!
In the shin malphur lore drifter told him he found the relic in a far planet cold enough to snuff your light, so why guessing earth, mars or the shore? It clearly references the lore card about drifter's team dying in a cold planet to some alien paracausal totem. And if i recall correctly it was an exosolar planet, but dont quote me on that
I really hope Drifter gets involved again in a future season.
For a brief moment I had thought that when you said the "Drifter had this to say" and it cut to him singing the tune I thought that was going to be it and I had a chuckle.
Glad to hear Shin again
Nezerak is the nightmare aka tormenting. Perhaps he dies at any world he is tormenting and gathers power till it brings him back. Like a sacrifice to the Darkness, this may also make it harder to stop him. I just wonder why Nezerak is not fallen. It looks like the Witness makes a Discipline for each rase he's destroying.
Any lore involving the Drifter I sit down with my snacks and LISTEN. Bro is too cool.
(Haven't watched the video jet) I expect a Nezarec season about the acolytes and drifter. Drifter seems to know a lot more about Nazarec than He let's on and I would absolutly love a new drifter-centric season. He is one of my favorite characters.
I will only accept this if I get my spare rations back, and if the drifter sings more theme music poorly
From that intro it just hit me, in a way, Kelograth now has a buddy for someone who has died and came back and died again now lol
So glad they revisited the whole 4th tomb of Nezarec thing
Whoever called you Lore Daddy was right on the money ❤
Nezarec infiltrates, dies, and remains around psychically so he’s untouchable? Sounds like a thing a Disciple would do.
He got things more right than just about anybody it seems.
love byf i need a lifetime of these
Drifter is the best character in D2. The best way to exist.
Byf doing the Drifter voice made my day XD
The drifter was CLEAERLY not at all surprised when it showed Misraakskell had a naughty backstory. Drifter is also good at keeping secrets. He treats Eido like an uncle would a neice. We know that Misraakskell collected pieces of nezarec. I vote the buyer was Misraakskell himself. Thoughts?
Byf uploaded, its story time!!
Man, Taniks was THIS close to having a true challenger.
Perfect timing with the master mode release ;)
Guess this guy can return how he likes, like another boss I am thinking of.
Video being 20:20 in length is neat in a satisfying way
I feel like this isn’t just Bungie fleshing out Nezarec and his cult further.
Amen
Very quick thing to think about, what of the witness kept his head in that thing in the raid and it just gave him a tormentor body, it makes sense if his paracostal conscience would still more or less reside in his central nervous system, incubating him with a new body to wake and continue his work.
He says that he has died before, so maybe he has other tombs for other deaths
Nezerac: oh boy, I sure do love pain, suffering and chaos! I hope when I die I get turned into a weapon🥰🥰🥰
Mithrax’s mom: he doesn’t need his liver
Mithrax: I made tea
Tankis, Nezarec... Are they truly gone?! Who knows!
Byf saying "rejoice" gave me unsettling Presage flashbacks
I'd love if they gave us a season based around the Dredgens
“Season of Yor”
How’s that sound?
@Caleb Smith I like it, corrupted guardians could be an enemy we could fight
They're hardly relevant at this point, that would just be a waste of a season in a year where the seasons are very important
@@momoosa7408 I feel like making a.i guardians might be a bit of a stretch for a season. Maybe use the lucent hive and make a splinter group of dredgens
When we are finished with final shape there is space for that, cleaning up our system, going after rouge guardians before finally leaving Sol as humanity supposed to
I really hope we meet shin malphur soon in a upcoming season.
My dream would be for keanu reaves to play him but that'll never happen...
Hey Byf while i finishing up the lightfall story on my other character i noticed that the witness back look like the Greek symbol Delta that is used in mathematics to represent the change in a variable, and it is also used to represent the difference between two numbers. just a little thing i noticed.
It took me a concerning amount of time to realize the acolyte mentioned is an acolyte of Nezarec, not a _hive_ acolyte...
Noticing a lot of Shrike gameplay recently Byf..
So, Nezarec is a pretty big guy, the reliquaries were quite small, and all that was left for the Witness was his head; I’m inclined to believe that either some of his parts have been destroyed or lost, or there are many more tombs or places where Nezarec is scattered across.
I wish we would go into the Lunar pyramid more and delve deeper into Nezzy's tomb there.
Now, scream for me!”
I’d have one of those punisher gif “nononowaitwaitwait!” moments
Time to put Nezarec and Taniks in an octagon and have them fight to the… uh… death.
are you going to do a full video like what you done with origins to shadow keep? that is amazing . You're destiny movies are great
Byf!! Thank you for bringing me back to destiny. Bungie doesn’t help, you do!! Keep up the great work!
Does anyone find odd the fact that Nezarec did not lose his memories or get a ghost after his resurrection from the Traveler?
He just kinda popped into the body that grew from his head I’m guessing. Since he’s been active while dead for a while lol
If I had a nickle for every time bungie made a villain that can't truly die, well, you know the rest.
Literally, rest in pieces, Nezarec
Taniks VS Nezarec = Unending combat
@MynameisByf I know it has nothing to do with this video. I noticed that when The Witness touches the traveler and has that vision. Near the end, you see the veins (roots) like from the tree. Only they appear to be in a human shape like it's a side view of a chest and a arm. Let me know if anyone else sees it
the drifter is just such an interesting character
Nezarec is the william afton of destiny....he always returns
I was kinda hoping he would cut the video after drifter sang his lil song and been like "oops wrong clip"
I read "drifter's" them saw a B and U and got very concerned for a second
After the recent raid bond you can't be too safe anymore
I wouldnt be surprised if the buyer from Drifter's little adventure was Spider, seeing as they both have previous knowledge of the relics
It's also the FIRST mention of the Drifter in ALL of Lightfall lol.
"Don't let pride keep you from a good meal." ----The Drifter (Gnawing Hunger)
…Heheheh, you say you don’t make much at your post, and yet you tend to like your odds… Tell me, O debtor mine: when the skull whispers to you, do you listen? What will you do if it stops?…
]]]Use it. Embrace it. Consume it.[[[
I don't think Nessa is Mykels daughter because Mykel was able to get into contact with Koraxes in the middle of a fallen base and Acasia in the wild.
Nazarec and Taniks having a death/resurrection competition. 🤷🏽♂️
How cool would it be if we had a season dedicated to fighting the Acolytes of Nezerac!?
I can’t wait for bungie actually show shin. If there any ways to include him in a story.
You gotta respect Nezarec though, taking the Voldemort route and having a fuxkton of horcruxes throughout the destinyverse.....Surprisingly Chad move
And Osiris can use Strand now
