To the Petersens, I understand your desire to sing it from a woman's perspective. But can you go through the lyrics again, I find discontinuation as you replace I with you, especially, when "some other woman's cryin' to her mother 'Cause she turned and you were gone" From the beginning, it is a woman who is singing and the man is stable in one place. "You dip your cup of soup back " again here until now, the woman is the one leaving the man, suddenly the man is the one travelling
I'm a Brit but I had the pleasure of riding route 66 on a Harley a few years back. All I can say to you yanks is ignore the flak you get from us europeans - yes none of our countries are perfect but this rendition of the song just takes me back to that middle america where you have the most beautiful countryside and people and should be rightly proud.
Just to add I'm from the Cotswolds in England - the most quintessential view you all have of us but Missouri is an equal in landscape - not history though but I fell in love with it all the same - this song just transports me there - great job.
I’m married to an Englishman from North Yorkshire…he’s been here with me in America for 6 years. He has embraced the beauty of my country, while I long to return to the countryside of England. I spent a beautiful week in Stow on the Wold in 2013 and met him shortly afterwards. I also love Upper and Lower Slaughter. England is where my heart is
Julianne, proly the lastborn is well supported by siblings, mom, dad and given plenty of space and she is singing naturally with a beautiful voice at her pace ... very nice all
There aren't enough superlatives in the English language to describe The Petersens. The musicianship, the peacefulness, the serenity, the smiles, the harmonies, the whole vibe, the HOPE that watching their performances inspires. Just brilliant. God Bless The Petersens...with respect and admiration from Surrey, England.
Im 56 years old......Gentle On My Mind is my fave old time song ever.......I hope Julieanne gets to read this message....her cover of this song brings some emotion to me....sung Beautifully...thank you.
One of the things I love about this is the woman in the back who I presume is the mom, taking a back seat to the talent of her kids, and the unassuming role of someone who has surely sacrificed dearly in the effort to produce such a beautiful display.
I found the voice too pitchy as if the singer had trouble with control. The mandolin and dobro were nice touches to a classic Glen Campbell song, but this song was a bit out of reach for Julianne.
I can never get enough of this performance. I especially love Julianne's voice. This is my favorite of all your songs, but I do enjoy your group immensely!
I grew up in the wake of this as a big hit by Glenn Campbell. As you age your native culture starts fade. Thank you for making an aging man smile. You did this justice.
There's a lot of soul in this song. I speaks to the struggles of the people of this country and to the heart of its people. Glen Campbell brought it to us with such depth and feeling. The Petersons have renewed a timeless classic and carried it into a new generation. I hope they appreciate it as much as we did.
@@louiekidd251 ..Yes...I've watched this about a dozen times since I first found it...along with other Peterson music videos. Reminds me of my youth when this place was a simpler, better, gentler nation of God, Family, Country
There's nothing about The Petersens that I don't love. But her voice is so pure and honest. This takes me away to some place more green and peaceful than any place I could find in the real world. I love this so much.
We had the honor of having Glen Campbell's daughter Ashley in the recording studio today for a few hours, we surprised her with this cover, she was all smiles and tears at the same time, needless to say she loved it, Congrats Petersens on a very well done cover and Julianne on lead vocals was icing on the cake, It wouldn't surprise me if Ashley ask the Petersens to go on tour with her next year........
sc1212able I love the Campbell Family. Met them after a show in Reno on the goodbye tour, and couldn’t believe how humble they are. They spoke to me at the meet and greet after the show, and Ashley even gave me a banjo pick. Needless to say that was a highlight of my life. Finally meeting Glen after all these years was my dream come true!!!!!!!!
That voice is so wonderfully natural and completely free from pretence and affectation. I will admit that I listen to her singing that song at least twice a week. Thank you, Julianne
I found this fabulous family several weeks ago online and seem to be unable to listen to anything else. God graced you all with such amazing talent and thank you for sharing it with all of us. For me the best part of watching all of your performances is the absolute love, joy and pride you show for each other. It makes the beautiful music so much more sweet.
There is more talent in this one video of 4 minutes and 10 seconds, than I have experienced in my whole 66 years of living. What great musicians, they will bring so much love and emotion to the world, happiness and bliss will rule the gatherings! Rare, beautiful, lovely talent and happy, close, loving family...it shows in their music!!
What I love about the Peterson family is that they are not overcome with their expertise , meaning their beautiful voices, their amazing skills on the instrument and they are just beautiful to look at , but it doesn't affect them, they are just plain old folks like we are, sharing what talent God has given them with us, God bless the Petersons and thank you all very much.
This girl just blows my mind every time she sings. That is one of the most beautiful renditions of gentle on my mind since Glen Campbell and I never thought anyone can touch what he does thank you so much to the Petersons. My god this girl I love her she’s incredible
I had just listened to two different versions of this great tune before I stumbled across this one, and it brought me to tears. I can imagine that this is exactly the way John Hartford would have wanted to hear it. Love Emmet's dobro.
I cannot love this version of this classic song enough. I've been listening to it everyday for the past week-and-a-half. It's just...phenomenal and perfect.
The Petersens are a family in which music instead of blood flows through their veins. It is simply wonderful to be able to experience them as a musical family. Many thanks for that.
John Hartford, Glenn Campbell, and George Jones were having a discussion about "Who's going to fill their shoes?"....... ....Their ears catch this performance rising up, and with great smiles, out in unison comes...."End of Discussion" Absolutely Beautiful!!!😇

Wonderful performance of this classic. John Hartford wrote this, Glenn Campbell made it a hit. I’m so glad there are young people that appreciate it and do it justice.
Sarah, I too have listened to this wonderful song about once a day for the last several months. One of the strongest magnets for me is the way that each instrument and the vocals are so well presented. You can pick any one and hear them play with clarity throughout this performance. Very well done guys.
Julianne Petersen has a voice that gives me goose bumps, she has such a great resonance. I can listen to the song again and again and that as a Linkin Park fan.

Her voice is very addictive and unique (in a really good way) and has hooked me. She doesn’t seem to think much of her voice but she’s got the thing. She adds so much to the vocals in the mix too.

Ever wake up in the morning during a shift in seasons and the fresh air stings your nostrils in the most delightful way? Yeah... This has the same sort of effect on my ears.
Me too. I've listened to this about a hundred times, and every single time I listen, it gets better! Plus, I'm a total sucker for the Petersens' vocal harmonies, yet there's not one note of vocal harmony in this! Something about this song makes it perfect forJulianne's unique voice, and the musicianship of the rest of the band here is just stellar.
This is my favorite song (probably) your family has done. Every single instrument get it's time in the sunlight. And every single one is glorious. And this is kind of Jules' first real 'front man' performance and she did so incredibly well. I swear there are some fade-ins of live crowds in certain places (@3:14 is most noticeable but I swear I hear it in other places as well, however faint. What a perfect touch). Thank you, Family.
*LYRICS - Gentle On My Mind*
------------
It's knowin' that your door is always open
And your path is free to walk
That makes me tend to leave my sleepin' bag
Rolled up and stashed behind your couch
And it's knowin' I'm not shackled by forgotten words and bonds
And the ink stains that have dried upon some line
That keeps you on the back roads
By the rivers of my memory
And keeps you ever gentle on my mind
It’s not clingin' to the rocks
And ivy planted on their columns now that bind me
Or somethin' that somebody said
Because they thought we fit together walkin'
It’s just knowin' that the world will not be cursin' or forgivin'
When I walk along some railroad track and find
That you’re movin' on the back roads
By the rivers of my memory
And for hours you’re just gentle on my mind
Though the wheat fields and the clothes lines
And the junkyards and the highways flow between us
And some other woman's cryin' to her mother
'Cause she turned and you were gone
I still might run in silence, tears of joy might stain my face
And the summer sun might burn me till I'm blind
But not to where I cannot see you
Walkin' on the back roads
By the rivers flowin' gentle on my mind
You dip your cup of soup back
From a gurglin' cracklin' cauldron in some train yard
Your beard a rustlin' coal pile
And a dirty hat pulled low across your face
Through cupped hands 'round a tin can
I pretend to hold you to myself and find
That you're waitin' from the back roads
By the rivers of my memory
Ever smilin', ever gentle on my mind

Why greater joy can there be in this world that playing this beautiful song so masterfully in family? Heaven is. Pl e on earth.
Ever wake up in the morning during a shift in seasons and the fresh air stings your nostrils in the most delightful way? Yeah... This has the same sort of effect on my ears.
I'm listening again, just loving it more every time, musically brilliant Julianne perfect.
