Desperado - The Petersens (LIVE)

- We need to invest in some better life insurance for Katie after watching that outro again.... But seriously, we love the Eagles and this was such a fun song to cover!
People often ask how we choose who sings lead on what songs. Normally, it is pretty obvious to us based on the style and who brought the song to the group who should sing lead, but this one was more of a fun process.
Ellen brought "Desperado" to the group with a pretty straightforward arrangement in October of 2021. We got caught up with Christmas music and shows and it went to the back burner until this summer. Ellen already had a few songs in the works so Emmett suggested Katie sing lead, and the arrangement Katie came up with is just stunning.

►LYRICS - Desperado
Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
You've been out ridin' fences for so long now
Well, you're a hard one
I know that you've got your reasons
These things that are pleasin' you
Can hurt you somehow
Don't you draw the Queen of Diamonds, boy
She'll beat you if she's able
You know the Queen of Hearts is always your best bet
Now, it seems to me some fine things
Have been laid upon your table
But you only want the ones that you can't get
Desperado, no, no you ain't gettin' no younger
Your pain and your hunger
Well, they're drivin' you home
And freedom, oh freedom
Well, that's just some people talkin'
Your prison is walking through this world all alone
Don't your feet get cold in the wintertime?
The sky won't snow and the sun won't shine
It's hard to tell the nighttime from the day
You're losin' all your highs and lows
Ain't it funny how the feelin' goes away?
Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
Why don't you come to your senses? (Desperado)
Why don't you come to your senses? (Desperado)
Why don't you come to your senses?
Come down from your fences now and open the gate
It may be rainin' but there's a rainbow above you
You'd better let somebody love you
(Let somebody love you)
You'd better let somebody love you
(Why don't you let somebody love you?)
You'd better let somebody love you
Before it's too late
It's too late
It's too late

A big thanks, Liz! It's all perfect, as always! 👍
Thanks Liz. You're the best.
Thanks, Liz!
Thank you Liz. That's a great start to the weekend. Lovely singing Katie
Lizz!! Come back!!!
Katie's voice is out of this planet...❤
A woman who can sing the blues? She deserves more recognition.
Ellen always has the sweetest smile on her face.
Katie is so expressive when she sings. I've heard both the Eagles and Linda Ronstadt sing this song dozens of times, but I never really heard all of the words and emotions hidden in the song until Katie's performance. This is a really great rendition of this song.
This is our wedding song of 36 years ago.. love it
I’m a middle aged man who has never tried to start a family because mine was broken. I get such wholesome feelings watching you folks. What I wonder at most though is how proud mum must be performing with her beautiful and talented children 😢
Me too, i am 41 and nowhere near having a family. Divorce of parents completely changed my life. I was deprived of my Father throughout my life. Alcohol and drugs ruined big parts of my life. I still have a chance to change it. I hope you do too.
Billy Lane started having kids at 47
@@CKD3332 You sure do, keep going. Bless you
🇺🇸 So am I: a middle-aged guy with a broken family as a background. 🇪🇦 Por eso, soy un desesperado.
@@familyengineering5591 Which Billy Lane, please?
Wow! Just wow. Everybody shut up and listen to an outstanding version of a classic Eagles tune.
I dont know why im so moved by the Petersens. I think its because they have beatiful hearts.
Could this possibly be Katie's greatest performance to date? Country Roads, Carolina in My Mind, California.... all amazing. Sung with so much emotion and soul. This just might be my favorite. Even @4:27 is amazing!!!
The original is so powerful. This version starts out rather quietly and then continues heaping on all the power of the original and then some. Very well played.
She grows as an artist into someone very special, doesn't she?
Katie's voice is so beautiful. 😊
Oh yes, I do agree with you ! 👧 💛 🎻
Julia, yes you're so right, Katie seems to become one with the music the violin and the segways, she is so well polished.
@@solveiglandvikbrg9103 то
Not just her voice, but her playing, her demeanor, and everything else!
Katie sang that beautifully
I've been on this planet for 65+ yrs, I never liked Bluegrass music, nor covers of great rock songs. But one day, just for the fun of it, I seen the Peterson's cover of a long ago Rock song, and much to my surprise I liked they way they covered it. I have been watching/listening to their covers of other songs since, and I also found I like their style of Bluegrass. They are a super good group!
I guess "you've come to your senses!" ...better late than never:)
Bluegrass is God's gift to us. Treasure it.
My man im originally from Balkan and I never heard songs like this and first time I hear it I was back home in my mind after 23 years traveling like gipsy all over world . People that have music like this are good people and are my kinda people . This family changed my life got me out from deep home sick depression and God bless them for that because they saved total stranger .
I'm like you. Country music and Bluegrass were never on my radar. But took a listen at the Petersens cover of Bob Denver's "Country Roads" and my life has been changed ever since. Just love these guys. They have expanded my horizons.
@@MikeFurl I think you mean John Denver. I believe Bob Denver was the actor who played Gilligan on Gilligan’s island
Many boys and men have tried to imitate the Eagles, but none have ever succeeded.
The possibility was only one: the voices of Katy Ellen and Julianne!!!
God bless the Petersens !!!
I have goosebumps listening to this version of an absolute American Classic
The vocals (both the lead and the harmonies) were absolutely off the charts
As one who couldn't attend the palooza, I really appreciate this. Such special people.
Mate.its even better live for shucks a pettie lady she has one powerful voice worth making the trip from London if only to hear this one song
This song was written for Katie. Outstanding in every way. Listening for the 3rd time straight
Just gotta love the Petersens sense of humor ❤
The outro is so majestic!🧚♀️👏👏👏
The Petersen's "Katie " just made this their own. I'm such an Eagles fan but this was absolutely beautiful
Coincidentally, I searched for the original Desperado about 3 hours after this video was posted and stumbled upon The Petersens as a result. 7 days later and I might have watched all their videos. Now I’m back where I started. 😂 Great stuff.
Katie killed it
What makes a great singer? What is great music? It's not just a beautiful voice, it's not just technique, it's not just an elaborate arrangement. Petersens makes us find them. It's a heaven
Katie knocked it out of the park. Grand slam for Katie!!!!!!!!!!
Reluctantly clicked this as I don't like hearing this song much after years of overplay. I don't think it's ever been done better. Thank you to The Petersons and the sublimely talented Katie for knocking this out of the park.
Listening to Katie's beautiful singing feels like a warm hug.
....and Mama plays bass! Love this family of music makers.
Hey, late to reply. I had a major broken relationship lasting from my late 20's until my late 30's. I pretty much gave up on love after it ended, which is why this song so describes me. I was so fortunate to meet my future wife years later after that experience thinking that I was too broken to love again but who convinced me not to give up. Her love blessed me with a family with 3 wonderful daughters. I am nearly 70 now and thank the Lord every day for my wife who talked me down from those fences!
If the eyes are the mirror of the soul, here the voice is the echo : soft, warm and deep..."Grandiose" !
I was a teenager when the Eagles released this classic. Katie has captured the emotion of this song with her vocals and the family has added a purity of sound that only the Petersen’s produce. Emmett’s break is fantastic. The harmonies toward the end stirs and accentuates the climax of the songs narrative. Well done.
Just wow!! The arrangment; the singing; the emotion. A++++
Our 2-year-old loves watching your music after bath time. And she always says, "I wanna see the rest of it," meaning, the behind-the-scenes stuff at the end. But she thought Katie spinning and singing was the most hilarious thing ever!!
The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt……and now The Petersons are added to the small group who own this classic song. Very well done indeed.
You are Dillusional
Whenever I see a new video by the Petersens I never know who will be singing but I am never disappointed because there is so much talent in this band.
Over 900,000 views and only 21,000 likes??? Don't folks know how to hit the like button? What a fantastic performance!!!
This family is just pure down home American talent.
And what are you
Emmet sure knows how to make that dobro shed tears, incredible!
Great supporting performances here, but Katie was clearly the star of this video, both for her stunning lead vocal and her comic turn at the end!
Her best lead vocal performance so far IMHO. Good job
Glenn Frey will smile from heaven and bless the Petersens and their wonderful voices. Only a select few can sing the masterpieces of the timeless Eagles.
Thanks guys and girls. Exceptional interpretation !!!!
Fausto
Amazing! I really love this one, Katie. I think it's quite brave of you to take such a well-known classic on (although you're not without experience of course😉). You sang and performed it beautifully. I also enjoyed Matt's delicate picking at the beginning very much. Oh, and good job keeping a straight face after 4:50 as well (Emmett less so 😂). Another Petersens gem.🥰
#BringBackBearTracks
Yes, brave is the word for it.
Where do I begin? An absolutely exquisite version of a great song. The level of talent in this family is astounding. The outro was very funny. Finally, Katie, your always sweet, soulful voice, continues to gain depth and sophistication each time I hear it. Thank you all for a wonderful performance.
It’s amazing how much more magic this incredible song emits when it is sung by the truly pure of heart. I have never heard a better version. Truly touching. I’m moved.
Here! Here!
Katie's voice has really grown and developed well. Nice version of an Eagles classic! Ellen is as sensitive in her work as ever. Beautiful! Thanks.
Wow, what a Friday night!! In South-Africa. Greetings to the Petersens....🤗😍😲
My goodness lady, every chance you took there in the arrangement and vocals paid off in spades!!! Katie, you didn't just cover it, you mastered it.
Great song again. Desperado, Eagles performed by The Petersen with Katie's voice, which goes so deep into the soul and spreads warmth, peace.... A big THANK YOU....
My new favorite Petersens' production!
Not again! Every time I think I've heard the best ever Petersens track, you guys go and do something like this! Absolutely stunning!
Ain't that the truth! Uncanny!
What a beautiful song sung by a beautiful woman! I wish you were my granddaughter. This family is so special.
I've had a rough year and and half with losing two friends and now my dad's health is really bad and many hospital trips later I listen to your wonderful music to help get me through the tough times. Thanks for sharing your talent.
@@vandalayindustries3057 thanks for your well wishes my father passed away a couple of weeks ago and I just noticed your comment. take care.
Katie stole the show with this one. Kind of a different side to her with the outro, but in a good way.
Beautifully sung. It gets under everyone's skin. Beautiful harmonic interplay.
Is a favorite song of mine that I have also once wished from you in the song request. Love it.
My favorite part is:
Come down from your fences
Open the gate
It may be rainin'
But there's a rainbow above you
I wish the Petersons would just once trainwreck a song just to prove they are mortal like the rest of us. You guys are just spectacular. Keep up the great work.
On patreon there is a video of them doing a song playing different instruments. Some of them knew how to play the one they got, but not all of them.
Fantastic! Such a great performance of my favorite Eagles song. "Your prison is walking through this world all alone" always speaks to me... and I've been married for 38 years.
So simple so beautiful ...... in this crazy world... this is simply refreshing
Love their songs. So pure and making me happy...
Cheers from Switzerland, you know, Europe, " the old world ".
I' m a swiss citizen, and have learned english at high school.
My father was swiss, my mother was german.
My father died when I was 18.
I live in Vaud county.

Wow. Very nice version. Really enjoy listening to your family.
Katie's falsetto is so strong and it sounds seamless transitioning from her natural voice . Wonderful performance by all 👋👋👋❤️
Katie. Sings and plays with such depth - a true artist. Wonderful!
I think Nascar superstar Hailie Deegan has a huge crush on Matt, Hailie was wearing a Petersens Blue Grass band tee shirt when she was racing at Millbridge Speedway last month and I asked her who her favorite band members was, she giggled like a little girl when she said Matt. It's pretty cool that Hailie follows the best Blue Grass band in the Nation.
I love the contrast between the soulful solo melodies to the powerhouse family harmonies you're able to show off in this song. Great rendition!
Watch it live, Katie will blow you away.
Just went back and saw this one. "Bouit fell out of my chair laughing so hard when you came out on the roller skates!!!
Best version I have heard, including the original.
Katie is silky smooth as always. I'm just about done with building my house at the ranch listening to your cool tunes and watching the dogs run and the deer play. I think I'll have a sip of whisky and chill while I listen to more cool music Thumbs up, you knocked it out of the park once again.
One of my favorite songs ever! I Bought "Desperado" when I moved to a big city 1976 to live alone... This Petersen´s version is great, I got tears in to my eyes. Your family represents the America as its best. You girls are so cute, lovely and skilled! Boys skilled too. You got good mother, I suppose she never said "don't´practice music now, coz it disturbs me".
Just wonderful. Not just sung, it’s the expression of emotion in every line. Applause!
I started a catering business while in college and was hired to cook for the Eagles at the concert where they / Don Henley sang this song for the first time (Yes, it was a long time ago.). It was a once in a lifetime experience. You guys nailed it! Gave me goosebumps. Wow. Way to go! Not just the vocals but also your musicality -- your mastery of the instruments and the harmony was amazing. But you guys get the emotion! Your singing was pretty much as close to perfection as I ever want to get. That is the way it is with the Eagles. On the one hand it is just another song, right? On the other hand their music grabs your emotions by the throat, you move to the edge of your seat, it leads you into musical paradise, and it touches something very deep inside you did not even know was there -- there is a total experience --- lyrics, melody, rhythm, emotion, spirit, truth ..... life. Then as each song ends, it politely helps you get up off the floor, catch your breath, dust yourself off, and get ready for the next song. It is just a song, right?
Always giving us what we didn't know we needed.
This time: Katie on hoverskates. 🤣
That was just too good!
Dang, Katie, not only are you extremely talented 👏, but now you've given us your best vocal performance ever ... thank y'all and thank God!!!
The way you can see how much they love to sing and play adds something that really makes them special. The girl playing fiddle looks like she is having so much fun she might explode!
Happy Birthday Katie Petersen
Second watch of this classic and it just gets better. It got better still when I Katie "rolled" in on "skates?" at the end..... Wonderful!
When Katie sings and plays, she is a queen of hearts. What a singing line up and playing music Band.
I am hard rock to metal guy, but for some reason I like this kind of music, am I getting old?
Yes you are getting old lol I was big into hardcore music now I’m listening to classical an I’m only in my 30s
Me too🤠🤓😎
Perhaps. But the real reason is that the music is just that good!
It would be truly wonderful if this group/family stays together for the next couple of decades. Great music. The blend is just right!
Talk about making a song their own, we’ll done Petersens!!
Love the arrangement and the cover, but the part that put the biggest smile on my face was watching Katie being a goofball at the end. At first I was like "Uhhh, where's Katie?" Then she comes floating into the frame. Absolute gold.
Wow, a high bar was set for this song. I am old enough to remember when Linda Ronstadt and The Eagles both released amazing versions of Desperado, one of my top five recordings of all time! Well, here you have gone and put the signature Petersens’ sound to it and knocked it out of the park! Not an easy task for sure. Thanks for the memories. ☄️
OK the end part is legendary.
Katie, that was awesome very powerful.
Beautiful singing with emotions.BTW-Maybe Katie will be the Olympic champion in segway skating.
The Petersens…..relaxation for my soul. Love it. Thank you for sharing.
TODAY IS THE DAY THAT I DISCOVER THE PETERSENS, I'M 40 YEARS MAN OLD, I DISCOVER SUCH A TALENT AND SIBILING BAND WHEN I WAS 20 CALLED THE CORRS
What a talented family!!
Flawless performance.
God bless you all.
Kind regards, from Brazil.
It takes a lot of heart and soul to sing like this, while only a little of both is enough to fully appreciate such song... Thank you for making one lonely despardo feel this way !
Yes, so Excellent! Excellent! love the slide, and the goofs, Oh, of course, I love them all. LOL.
This group only gets better and better! This is one of their very best! I don't think I have seen them get 100K in just one day!
that was BY FAR the best version of desperado I have ever heard!
A performance for all time. A classic masterpiece.
Dare I say Y'all have your own sound?! I would know Y'all's cover songs blindfolded .Love the out takes!
Written by Glen Frey and Don Henley of the Eagles, about a friend of Don's named Leo. 1973.
It was the title track the Eagle's album. Yet, the song did not make the charts till Linda Ronstadt's version.
To me, Katie's rendition shows more compassion than previous versions.
What a nice Eagles's classic. You are all great guys and Katie made the song hers. Thanks again
KATIE , Wow, now yall are in my era, I was 7 in Spring of '73' you truly did this song right, I think each note you hit was dead on , thank you group!
Katie is life. A very beautiful life our world has been blessed with. ❤️👏
Katie puts her heart and soul into the performances and the rest of the band backs up with just as much enthusiasm I really like the challenges they choose!! ❤️❤️❤️
I cannot express enough how much I love every song the Petersens sing. What a privilege to have such musical talent in one family.
Lovely song. One of my favourites by the Eagles. Close second to Hotel California. Love your arrangement and it is good to see Julianne there.
@3:02 - "it may be raining" just a pure heavenly sound!
Love the Eagles and your version is amazing ❤️ and the outro is funny 😁
